The Orioles have the bats, seemingly have the defense and starting pitching, so that leaves the bullpen as the biggest question mark heading into 2026.

00:00I love the way they downplay it, Ed, but inflammation in your shoulder is never a good thing.
00:07Not if you're a pitcher.
00:08It's not normal either.
00:11Well, yeah, it's not great news.
00:15And it's, you know, they downplay it, but I'm not surprised.
00:21It's such an unnatural motion.
00:22And, you know, now you've got two people, Batista and now Kittredge with shoulder problems, which I think it's probably
00:28worse than having an elbow problem, in my opinion.
00:31I mean, look how long Batista's been out.
00:33So, who knows?
00:35But bullpen has always made me nervous anyway.
00:38They throw so much.
00:39Yeah, I mean, if you pitch every, you know, back-to-back night, you know, three nights a week, whatever
00:43it may be, depending on how much you needed.
00:46Well, look at all the times, as Buck says, you get dry humped.
00:49You go to the bullpen and throw, and you're not even in the game.
00:52I got that guy up, and he was throwing, and I had to put him back down.
00:55He got dry humped.
00:55It's like, what?
00:56You did what to him?
00:57Excuse me, sir?
00:58What happened?
00:59Did your parents walk in?
01:01What?
01:02It's like, come on, man.
01:04It's a dangerous spot.
01:05I'm not happy at all.
01:07Remember, we still have bullpen questions before Kittredge got hurt.
01:10That's what I mean.
01:11That was the only concern going into the season.
01:13That was my biggest concern anyway.
01:16When you asked the question early on, I thought the starting rotation was solid.
01:19The lineup could be elite.
01:21But the bullpen was a big concern.
01:23That's kind of what I was alluding to earlier, because when we were talking about bullpens
01:27and the injuries that go on, the story was, hey, Tyler Wells would just slide into this
01:32role.
01:33Weren't you planning on using him in some bullpen capacity?
01:36So if he's taking someone else's role, who's taking his, and then who's taking that person?
01:40So it does feel like they still need another arm.
01:42Maybe two.
01:44I thought they needed another arm or two before.
01:47That's what I'm saying.
01:47You know, so maybe someone would emerge, like last year, we had someone that we didn't
01:53expect to be in that bullpen, Brian Baker.
01:55And all of a sudden, he caught fire in spring training all the way to the point where you
01:59just kind of got a player for him.
02:00Fleeced.
02:01Yeah, you fleeced.
02:02It was a draft pick.
02:03Yeah.
02:03You know, the Tampa Bay Rays, which normally people don't fleece the Rays.
02:07They got him.
02:08That's a good point, yeah.
02:09They got him.
02:10Well, I mean, maybe they saw something in Baker, because he's under control, right?
02:13Didn't they have him for a bit?
02:15Mm-hmm.
02:15So, and maybe that's something that was important.
02:17Well, it's the Tampa Bay Rays.
02:19Cheap talent's important to them.
02:21And I think that's the one team nowadays.
02:23Somebody else said it.
02:24They had a three-way trade that went down, or that's been discussed.
02:28And it was like, how'd you get it done?
02:29He says, anytime the Rays are involved, it's easy.
02:31They make it super easy on everyone.
02:33I'm not saying he can't bounce back, Jeremy, but he had an ERA of almost five in 31 appearances
02:39for the Rays.
02:39I know.
02:40His ERA went up more than a full run between the Orioles and the Rays.
02:44It was chunky.
02:45It was chunky.
02:46Chunky?
02:46Okay.
02:47Yeah.
02:48Chunky.
02:49Let's go out to Baltimore and get Mike.
02:51What's up, Mike?
02:52Hey, how y'all doing this morning?
02:53Don't worry.
02:54Mike, you had a chance to do the funniest thing ever and piss Rob off even more and say,
03:01hey, what's the address for your game tonight, Chief?
03:05You had a chance, man.
03:08No, I would never have been able to get through again.
03:10He'd hang up on me in a second.
03:13I'd never hang up on you, Mike.
03:15Don't do it right now.
03:16I'd never hang up on you, Mike.
03:18All right.
03:19You better talk fast.
03:20I'm like y'all.
03:21I was kind of a suspect of the bullpen before Kitchens got hurt.
03:26So, Bill, you know, I'm a little bit worried.
03:28But, you know, Kitchens is like an ice cube that is Friday getting fired on his day off.
03:33How come a dude gets hurt every year before the season starts, man?
03:37It's something else, man.
03:39Mike, in your opinion, who replaces Kittredge?
03:44I've got it.
03:46Oh, man.
03:46See, that's just Rob staying on brand, man.
03:52Rob sent that picture.
03:54What was that?
03:54You had a great picture of you coaching.
03:56Yeah.
03:57And it looked like you were yelling and pointing.
03:59And I just wanted to put, like, the quote for that.
04:02It's like, score more.
04:04Score more.
04:06Score more.
04:07There's the basket.
04:09I'll put that on our team post.
04:12You know, 13 to point.
04:13But point guard on my team always gets yelled at more than anybody.
04:16Of course.
04:16So, I put that picture on our team chat.
04:18I said, who am I yelling at?
04:19Her name is Daisy.
04:20Daisy said, probably me.
04:25Boy, guys, everything's your fault.
04:28Why did she miss that?
04:29Why did she miss that layup?
04:30Coach, I didn't miss the layup.
04:334-10-5-8-3-1-0-5-7.
04:35That's the number.
04:36I just think, and I think, who was it?
04:39I can't remember who it was to say.
04:41It may have been Ryan Ripken.
04:43The key to every bullpen is having people with options.
04:49Because you may throw a guy six times in two weeks, but now he needs a rest.
04:55So, can you option him down and bring somebody up?
04:58Well, watch what they do right around the all-star break when they're trying to finagle that roster a little
05:02bit.
05:03And you're getting to it and you're like, hey, we want an extra body here.
05:06Because remember when Buck was here and they sent Wei-Yin Chen to Frederick?
05:10Yeah.
05:10It's like, hey, man, he's having a good season.
05:13He doesn't really have to go to Frederick, does he?
05:15This is just, you're telling him, we're going to send you to Frederick, but you're staying here, right?
05:21So, yeah, I think options are huge, man.
05:23Do you remember that?
05:24Yes.
05:25I was like, I didn't remember that.
05:26I said, is this?
05:28That can't be right.
05:29Why would they send him to Frederick?
05:30Meanwhile, you know what Wei-Yin Chen was?
05:31Where?
05:31In the dugout.
05:34We optioned him to Frederick.
05:36Well, what does that mean?
05:36Well, he optioned not to go.
05:40Way in, more like way out in Frederick.
05:42That's where you're going.
05:43Yeah, I do remember that.
05:45The option of Frederick never went.
05:484-10-5-8-3, 1-0-5-7, that's the number, but the most big bad morning show on
05:53the fan.
05:53I still have not lost the excitement level that I have for this baseball team, though.
05:59I haven't either.
06:01I'm more excited than I've been.
06:04Seriously.
06:05Pick up Alonzo was a big deal.
06:07I mean, we say it, or I say it a lot, and I would beat it to death, but that
06:10was a huge move.
06:11And then they made some other great moves.
06:13You know, I think picking up Boz was a great move.
06:16I really do.
06:18You pick up...
06:19Now you've got guys...
06:21You pick up a guy in your pitching rotation, World Series winner.
06:24You pick up a guy, you know, for your lineup at first base, World Series experience.
06:27You've got some experienced guys in that clubhouse now, plus major talent, plus you had, you know,
06:32a 55-gallon drum, a young talent that's still yet to really explode.
06:37You've got a good team here.
06:40Look, again, we talk about it.
06:42People can sit here and say, hey, we've got a great bullpen coming into the season,
06:45and that could be technically correct.
06:47As I say all the time, bullpens are cyclical.
06:49Guys get hurt.
06:50Something's not working.
06:51Maybe they're overworked.
06:53Maybe it started off slow, and you keep looking up at that scoreboard and seeing that high ERA,
06:57like, damn, man, I wish I hadn't started off this bad.
07:00Like, those guys are weirdos out there, right?
07:03Like, I mean, I'm not saying anything out of turn.
07:05In a good way.
07:05In a good way.
07:06They're different individuals.
07:08Yes.
07:09The different energy drinks, the ball busting that goes on.
07:12You ever watch an interview out in the bullpen, what happens?
07:15Yeah.
07:15All they do is start busting that guy's chops and putting crap on his head and throwing stuff at him.
07:19Yeah.
07:21But again...
07:21I'm bored.
07:22That's what happens.
07:24But that's the one...
07:25I think that's the one position in baseball as a relief pitcher
07:29that you can see the biggest turnover rate from year to year.
07:31No doubt.
07:32You do.
07:32Yeah.
07:33No doubt about it.
07:33410-583-1057 is the number.
07:36Yesterday, we lost one of college football's greats in the coaching ranks.
07:40Lou Holtz died at the age of 89.
07:42Vinny Serrano spent a lot of time with Lou Holtz during his coaching career.
07:46We'll talk to Vinny in reflection on Lou Holtz at 930.
07:50But on the other side, Cordell Woodland, our man on the scene, joins us up next on The Fan.
07:55Big Bad Morning Show.
