00:00Sonny Gray says that if we are going to get back into this thing,
00:06then they are going to need the fans.
00:09But is there a chance that they can get back into this thing?
00:12That is what we have been discussing all morning long on this radio show.
00:16Well, I'd ask the room, do you think this team can finish with a 500 record
00:20or a game above or even below?
00:23Yes.
00:23So if you do believe that, then I guess there is a chance
00:27because based on that third wildcard spot,
00:30that's what it's going to look like that team who gets it, their record is.
00:36So if you believe it, then now the Red Sox might be on a second pivot
00:40from the pivot that we thought they were going to be on and going,
00:43well, maybe we can actually get that third spot.
00:47I think what's frustrating is I know, Greg,
00:50you've been talking about the quality starts that the pitching staff has had,
00:53which is great, but then you still like barf all over your shoes
00:57against the Rockies, who are one of the other worst teams.
01:00And so to me, it's frustrating that they can have a sweep like this
01:05against the Yankees and have a feel-good weekend,
01:08but there's no – there's still – I know the pitching's been great,
01:12but there's no consistency.
01:14There's nobody that you can look at in your lineup and go like,
01:17okay, we're going to ride this through besides, I guess, Wilson Contreras.
01:21Well, I think the other part to, Meg, go to that point,
01:23and you make a really good point, is you don't look at this and go,
01:27oh, okay, now they play the Nationals and they can sweep that series.
01:32Nothing's a given.
01:33Like, they could literally get swept by the Nationals
01:36and you could be right back to square one.
01:39That's where I think – that's for me,
01:40it's about the inconsistency of this baseball team where it's like,
01:45how can you believe anything you've seen because they even have, like –
01:51they haven't had, like, a decent, consistent period where you can go,
01:56all right, maybe they could be that team.
01:58Yeah, like they had those three weeks in May where the offense was really great
02:02and blah, blah, blah.
02:02All you can really point to is even though Garrett Crochet has been out forever,
02:07their starting pitching is really good.
02:09That's it.
02:10That's all you got.
02:10I mean, Curtis brought it up this morning and I think it was a great point.
02:15Curtis, well done.
02:17They are better.
02:18This team is better under Chad Tracy than they were under Alex Cora.
02:22Right, considering the rosters that each had the opportunity to manage.
02:26You know, Alex Cora had the benefit of having Garrett Crochet
02:31and having Roman Anthony.
02:32And so, you know, a little bit concerning that they have now switched up
02:38Roman Anthony to the 60-day as opposed to the 40.
02:44With what Marcelo Meyer is dealing with, is there – at some point,
02:52is someone going to ask if the unusual hand-arm injuries that this team
03:01has dealt with this season is related to driveline at any point?
03:08Is somebody going to ask that question?
03:10Is it possible that driveline works for pitching and not for offense?
03:15Like, not for hitting?
03:16Is that possible?
03:17Because the more baseball people that I talk to from, like, the writing side,
03:21it's like, oh, well, driveline got really popular because a bunch of pitchers
03:26went to the facility and they got their speed up by, like, five miles per hour,
03:30which is a huge deal, and then driveline exploded from that.
03:34So maybe it's more of a pitching tool, and for hitting, it just doesn't make sense.
03:39Like, is that possible?
03:40Yeah, I think it's more possible that Roman and Marcelo are kind of not rushing back
03:46than it is driveline's fault.
03:48Hmm.
03:50Hmm.
03:50Like, I don't know.
03:52You cater them.
03:53On their own or at the team's bequest?
03:57On their own.
03:58On their own.
03:58You think the team doesn't want them back?
04:00Yeah.
04:00Okay.
04:01I mean, I'm sorry.
04:03We were in Hilton Head wondering when he was going to be back.
04:06Now it's the all-star break.
04:08Yeah.
04:09Like, I don't get it.
04:11Does it need surgery?
04:12How do you fix it?
04:13I don't know.
04:15It's an interesting theory that you might have because, you know,
04:20we've talked about it in other sports, you know, the whole thing.
04:23Are you hurt versus are you injured?
04:25Could you play through certain things?
04:27What's your pain threshold?
04:28Are you able to play through these?
04:31Whatever it is, right?
04:32We talked about Durbin with the fingery injury he sustained,
04:36but then he was able to come back and play.
04:37Like, the Roman Anthony situation is who, to Curtis's point,
04:44like, what's the reason why this guy isn't playing?
04:47Is it him?
04:48Is the team's not rushing him back?
04:49Is the team – like, Garry Crochet, I don't mind.
04:51If the team wants to say, hey, listen, we're going to shut this guy down
04:55and we're going to not rush him back until he's ready to go,
04:58like, that part I don't mind because I know what Garry Crochet can do.
05:01With Roman Anthony, it's like, well, if this is the face of your franchise
05:06when it comes to your offense and your hitting,
05:10we need to see more from this kid.
05:12Like, what is he really?
05:13Especially if you think that you're going to make any kind of push
05:16before the trade deadline to figure out who you are,
05:19then you need to see if Roman Anthony can be healthy and contribute.
05:24Can he carry the team when it comes to hitting?
05:26But so Bresbot was on Friday and was reluctant to say that the pivot is underway
05:34or when the pivot was going to start.
05:38And a few days before he joined us on Friday morning,
05:42he was talking about how the ship can still be righted.
05:47Is this series enough for them to scratch their heads and go,
05:53all right, wait a minute, like, maybe this can be a playoff team?
05:58Or is this series win, to borrow from Cam Newton, fool's gold?
06:05Good morning.
06:06No, I believe that they, like, when I asked the question,
06:09I believe that they think they go, oh, we can get to 500 or a game or two above it
06:13and grab that third wild card spot.
06:15They look at it and go, our pitching is so good.
06:17All we're going to need is the guys that we expected to at least be hitting
06:21at a major league level.
06:23Those guys will turn it on, pick it up.
06:25You know, some other guys are starting to pick it up
06:27and our hitting will start to come around
06:29and maybe we'll get hot in the second half of the season.
06:31Here's where I feel with the Red Sox.
06:33A bad team only deserves to be talked about in big picture sense
06:37because what they do game to game doesn't really matter.
06:40It's like they're a bad team.
06:41They're going to keep being bad.
06:43To me, they have not earned the game-to-game talk.
06:47Like, they haven't proven enough to get out of the big picture conversations.
06:51And the big picture conversations are,
06:53who's still going to be with this organization?
06:55Who should handle the trade deadline?
06:57All of that is where I'm at with this team.
06:59I haven't pivoted myself over to, like, wow,
07:02what happens if they win this series and that series?
07:05Like, they haven't shown that they deserve that conversation.
07:08I get that point.
07:10My thing for this team is, like, show me that you can be consistent
07:15over a 10, 15, 20-game stretch where I can look at it and go,
07:22all right, because we know how baseball is, right?
07:24Baseball is one of the sports that's so streaky.
07:27Guys can go on a slump forever and then all of a sudden turn on,
07:30you know, come out of it and be hitting great for a month or two.
07:34And that could be – that month or two could be at the end of the season
07:39heading into the postseason where this guy catches on fire.
07:41But you have to show me that.
07:43That's where I'm still like –
07:45Well, didn't they show you something in that comeback win last night?
07:49Yeah, but to Megal's point, that's like –
07:51You're down 4-2.
07:52Well, you're up 2-0 and then you're gagged on your beat.
07:55Yeah, but then you're able to get the hits that you need in the bottom
07:59of the 10th and win that baseball game.
08:01Right, but to Megal's point, though, that's like one series.
08:04And prior to that, you lost the series to the Colorado Rockies.
08:09So that's not enough to get me going.
08:12You know what I mean?
08:12It's like I just feel like no matter –
08:15Yeah, even though you put the lipstick on the pig
08:18and she did look cute under the right lighting,
08:22she's probably still –
08:23It's like the –
