00:00So imagine my surprise.
00:01I watched that, and then I put my head on the pillow
00:05and woke up to find out the Tigers lost.
00:09All their offense came in the third inning.
00:11They got everybody seemingly going.
00:13Part of what you wanted to see, getting Colt Keith higher in the order,
00:15McGonagall doing his damage, Karp and Green in that inning.
00:19I'm like, ah, great, Tigers put up five runs.
00:22I wake up and go, oh, what the hell happened here?
00:24Casey Mize was good.
00:25Casey had nine strikeouts.
00:27He got out of a bases-loaded jam in the second.
00:30Yeah, so I'm thinking good Casey Mize, a little bit offense.
00:34Hey, the bullpen.
00:35I know what we got in the bullpen.
00:36Three guys with 20 saves last year,
00:38a couple guys who can get swing and miss.
00:41I wake up and I see Jansen blew it.
00:47Uh-huh, and I know you were excited about that headline.
00:50No, because I think they're going to be good out of the back end of the bullpen,
00:53but I think the headline is you waste a good Casey Mize start,
00:56and for now, they have a losing record.
00:59You send Scooble to the bump today, you even it up, you come home,
01:02everybody's happy for opening day.
01:03And by the way, if you think they're going to win like 88 games like me,
01:06that means they're going to lose 74,
01:07so it's just not worth getting all worked up about.
01:09It's not, but the one thing that is the underlying factor in these five games
01:15is, yes, Colt Keith, he's been good.
01:18McGonagall, he's been good.
01:20What other bat has been good?
01:24There really hasn't been another bat that has been reliable,
01:28and you look at one home run in five games,
01:36there's a power issue.
01:38Now, I know McGonagall was stolen,
01:40and Colt Keith had one because of the mentions of the park.
01:43Gator had the protractor out yesterday.
01:46And so there are, but there's going to be those moments.
01:49There just needs to be more consistency with all the bats.
01:53I mean, let's put this on repeat.
01:55We've been talking about it for, what, two years or longer.
01:59However, the point about consistency,
02:01Tom, you were the first person to bring this to my attention.
02:04So last night, they scored all their runs in one inning.
02:08They had seven innings
02:11where they only sent the minimum three batters to the plate.
02:15Yeah, so six of those seven were just one, two, three straight up.
02:19The other, the seventh one where they only had three batters,
02:22they grounded into a double play from a walk.
02:24Yeah, so that's seven of the nine innings.
02:26It's one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three.
02:28And then the other inning, they had four runners.
02:31Or four batters, I mean.
02:32Yeah.
02:33So really, it was a one Utah consistency.
02:35It was only there for one inning last night.
02:41I mean, that's the frustrating part.
02:42I mean, the third best bat on the team,
02:46I mean, you start going down the list.
02:48I mean.
02:50When you say third best bat, you're saying so far.
02:52Yeah, so far.
02:52Like, Dingler obviously has been pretty good.
02:55Without looking at the numbers, I'd say Dingler.
02:57Parker Meadows.
02:58Oh, yeah, he had a hit last night.
02:59Yeah.
02:59I mean, he's down at the bottom of the order.
03:01And I don't think anybody's sitting there going,
03:03okay, that's a reliable bat.
03:04But, like, Green, Karp, Torque, McKinstry, Torres, Veerling.
03:13Like, none of them have been able to put bat on ball.
03:19And it's not, you can't even say, well, we got to, the weather,
03:23and it's, you know, you got to wait for things to heat up.
03:25They've been playing in San Diego and Arizona.
03:28Have you been, by the way, speaking of warm weather, have you seen Friday?
03:32Oh, yeah.
03:33I mean, I'm glad we didn't take that deal.
03:3775.
03:38And there is rain if you look in your app, but you got to look a little closer.
03:41The rain is supposed to be, and I stress supposed to be.
03:44Yeah.
03:44Done by 6 a.m., and any other rain in the day is supposed to be after 6 p.m.
03:52I'd lock this in.
03:5375 degrees sunshine on opening day for Friday.
03:57Anyway, we got text on Tiger Woods.
03:58We brought it up.
03:59Just want to know, do you view him negatively?
04:02What is his legacy, this latest rollover, this latest drama away from the course?
04:07Text says, Tiger is the goat.
04:10Gobbling opioids all the time.
04:14His father ruined him with his upbringing.
04:16I hope he doesn't do the same to his son, Charlie.
04:19Being great at your profession doesn't make you a good person.
04:22I can appreciate the accomplishments, but recognize I wouldn't want to put him in front of my kids as a
04:26role model.
04:28I'm thinking injuries have him in so much pain that painkillers have become just part of his life and maybe
04:33has led to the addiction, which is probably common, unfortunate, and hopefully he can get help he needs.
04:38His golf legacy is unmatched.
04:40Bill and Plymouth.
04:42I'm not a fan of Tiger Woods at all, but he is the greatest golfer simply for the fact that
04:46he saved the sport.
04:48Golf would not be as popular today if he had never played.
04:51Nobody would know who Jack is if it wasn't for Tiger.
04:54Well, I disagree with no one would know who Jack Nicklaus is, but I do think that the popularity of
05:02the sport as it sits today is a direct correlation to the popularity and the way that Tiger Woods went
05:10about his business as a golfer.
05:12If you want to grow the game, it can't just be talked about by old crotchety people, right?
05:16And Tiger changed that.
05:20I'm hanging with Tiger over Tyson.
05:21As long as he's not behind the wheel of a car, he's far less likely to kill me.
05:25Answer the caller's point.
05:27You're going to hang out with the two?
05:30Yeah, but can Tyson actually do that anymore?
05:32Like, I mean, we saw him fight.
05:34I don't think he strikes fear into anyone else.
05:37I wouldn't mess with Mike Tyson today.
05:39Well, you would.
05:41Well, you're Tommy tough guy, but I mean, if you're talking about that, like, I mean, Tiger Woods, if a
05:49golf club in hand, like that might be more deadly than than Tyson is at this point or his wife
05:57with the golf clubs, maybe a little more definitely could be.
05:59There you go on our Detroit Tigers text says can't have too many games with one inning where you score
06:07my pitched well, but got the too many three ball counts.
06:11At least Carpenter was moved out of the leadoff spot.
06:15That was one thing you wanted to say.
06:16Hey, like if he heats up, put him back up there.
06:18But in the meantime, get some a B's for some other guys.
06:21Cole keep was a leadoff guy last night.
06:23Text says this is what happens when you don't add a bat to a piss poor lineup.
06:29First, it was Kenna Maeda and Charlie Morton.
06:31Now it's Verlander and Jansen.
06:33Scott Harris needs to stop sabotaging the team by signing geriatric pitchers.
06:41No, I don't agree with that at all.
06:44I don't either.
06:45Like, I agree with the first part.
06:48Like, Maeda and Morton weren't any good, but right.
06:53I mean, you go out and sign Frambois Valdez.
06:56He's not a geriatric.
06:58Okay, he's not a spring chicken, but he's a really good pitcher.
07:02Honestly, if you want to take shots, you should have used Alex Cobb in there, too.
07:05But the key here is Verlander is being asked to be the team's number five.
07:11They're giving him a couple bucks, and most of it's deferred.
07:14He's 43 years old, and they can ask him to be the five because they have Scooble,
07:18and they paid Valdez to go with Flaherty and Mize, who was an all-star last year.
07:23And the Kenley Jansen stuff, some of the swing and miss has dipped as he's gotten older,
07:28but I think we all wanted to see them beef up the bullpen last year.
07:32They did it with Finnegan, and then you add Kenley Jansen to go with Will Vest.
07:35You want to have a three-headed monster at the back end of your bullpen.
07:38You want to have the flexibility for AJ if I got to go to the bullpen back-to-back days
07:42that I've got arms.
07:45I don't think Kenley Jansen is a Kenta Maeda-like move.
07:49No.
07:50No.
07:51I mean, you wouldn't have said that the other night when he had, what, 10 pitches and nine
07:55of them were, or 11 pitches and 10 of them were strikes?
07:58Yeah, they couldn't touch him.
07:59Three up, three down.
08:00Yeah.
08:01We'll talk Frank Rag now.
08:03Was it a mistake?
08:04Others around the league taking shots at the Lions.
08:07Cheap and petty.
08:08Some of what they're saying.
08:09We'll get to it next.
08:10It's 97-1.
