Championship contender? What exactly is this Celtics team capable of?
Which team would be the toughest matchup for the Celtics?? Is it the Cavs, Knicks or Pistons?
Transcript
00:00Well, Greg, let's begin with Kendrick Perkins.
00:02He's been, I got to tell you, he's been talking up the Celtics,
00:04and Jalen Brown in particular, quite a bit lately.
00:06Here's Perk telling you exactly what the Boston Celtics are capable of
00:10in the NBA playoffs.
00:11Well, I still got the Pistons by a little bit over the Celtics,
00:15but Jason Tatum come back, that's going to convince me to put the Celtics up top.
00:22The Celtics have the most, has the most championship experience
00:27out of any team in the Eastern Conference.
00:30They have the best two-way player in the game who I believe should be the MVP.
00:34He damn sure is going to get my vote.
00:36And when you think about what they have, their culture, the coaching,
00:40the system with the move that they made at the trade deadline,
00:44going to get Vucevic, and they have a dynamic duo,
00:48if Tatum comes back, that is proven.
00:51The other Eastern Conference teams, not, but it's too many unknowns.
00:56We don't know what Carl Anthony Town and Mike Brown relationship
00:59is going to look like.
01:00We don't trust James Harden just yet.
01:03Donovan Mitchell has never led a team to the Conference Finals.
01:07The Detroit Pistons still have inexperience.
01:10They only have one playoff run.
01:11So it's a lot of unknowns with those other teams.
01:14We know what the Celtics are capable of doing.
01:18Is Perk allowed back in the building?
01:20He was banned, I think, for a while.
01:23I think he's good.
01:23Yeah, I think he's working his way back.
01:25He's working his way back.
01:26Yeah, yeah, he's definitely working his way back.
01:27Because he ended up motivating.
01:29Like, he said something.
01:30Wasn't it negative about Jalen for a bit?
01:32He had a – or Jason, and then they went off in the next game.
01:36Like, it's motivating.
01:38I feel like it was both of them.
01:39But, I mean, he's not lying when you start to compare them
01:42to the rest of the Eastern Conference.
01:44I mean, even if Jason Tatum doesn't come back,
01:47I still feel pretty good, you know,
01:49that there's a chance that they could get to the Eastern Conference Finals.
01:54But if Jason Tatum does come back, then I really – you know, I'm like Perk.
01:59I would put my money on them over anybody else.
02:03But, you know, we saw them potentially losing last year to the Knicks
02:07with both of their healthy superstars.
02:09And, you know, maybe a better roster last year.
02:12So, it'll be interesting.
02:14It's not tonight when it comes to Tatum because he's still listed as out.
02:19But I guess it could be Friday.
02:20So, we'll wait and see.
02:22And Curtis said it yesterday.
02:24Joe Mazzula has done an unbelievable job when it comes to this basketball team
02:28this season.
02:28He has.
02:29Right now.
02:29And Wiggy was right.
02:30He never was cleared for five-on-five.
02:32And he was out over the weekend.
02:33I missaw or thought I saw something that I didn't see.
02:36Yeah, because I think once the doctors say to him, you're good to go, he's playing.
02:45Like, I don't – like, I don't think he wouldn't play.
02:48Because there'd be – once you're cleared, where does the concern come from?
02:54Once the doctors –
02:55Chemistry.
02:56He said it.
02:56Yeah, but even with the chemistry thing, like, eh, you know, maybe you say those things.
03:01Like, you don't want to – like, you're being a good teammate in the sense of, like,
03:05you know, these guys are playing so good.
03:07Where would I fit if I came back?
03:09I don't want to disrupt the chemistry.
03:10I think you're being, like, politically correct.
03:12But why does he say it then?
03:13Because I think you're being politically correct in the sense that the team is playing so well.
03:18You know, now me coming in, them have to incorporate in me.
03:23He's saying that just for, in my opinion –
03:26But teams do that all the time when it comes to the trade deadline and get a new guy and
03:33incorporate a new guy.
03:34And it's – I mean, they all – they don't all, but certainly Jalen knows what – how Jason Tatum
03:42likes to play.
03:43Derek White knows how he likes to play.
03:46Peyton Pritchard knows what his role is.
03:49But it's a different – but those guys, like, Jason's role is completely different than all those other guys.
03:55So now when he comes back, he slides back into the alpha chair.
04:00And how does that kind of – he's saying – that's why I think he said it is, like, okay,
04:05how does that chemistry then look when I'm a guy who's –
04:08I'm not a guy – a role player who's coming back.
04:11I'm the man coming back.
04:12Well, let me ask you.
04:13So he decides he's going to come back Friday night.
04:15Oh, here's the other thing.
04:16Do you think it matters to Jason Tatum?
04:18Minor thing.
04:19Does he want to come back at home?
04:21Yes.
04:22You think so?
04:22Yep.
04:23Okay.
04:23So you think that's a –
04:24I think that probably matters a little bit.
04:26Yeah, I think that definitely matters a little bit.
04:27So he comes back Friday night.
04:29Is he a starter?
04:30Yes.
04:31Okay.
04:32Yeah, for Baylor Shireman.
04:33Yeah, he's definitely a starter.
04:34And there's going to be no issue with anybody on that team when it comes to him starting right away?
04:40No.
04:41No.
04:41Yeah, I mean, who would have issues?
04:44I mean, maybe the guy who's going to the bench, you know, but those will be internal issues that that
04:48player will deal with, whether it's Shireman, like Shireman said.
04:52But I don't think anybody's looking at, like, oh, man, what are we doing here?
04:56Why are we letting Tatum start?
04:58And I think he'll play a lot.
05:00And two Duke guys.
05:01Yeah, I think he'll end up playing a lot, too.
05:03He'll end up playing, you know, 28, 29, maybe 30 minutes a night.
05:08Oh, I don't think, right away?
05:10Yeah, I mean.
05:10I don't think so.
05:11Colby did it.
05:12I know, but we keep going back to that.
05:15Kevin Durant did it.
05:16You know, I mean, granted, Kevin Durant sat out longer.
05:20He sat out for like 580 days.
05:22You know, so I think that when you start to look at it and, you know, I don't think he's
05:27coming back to play 15 minutes.
05:30I think he's coming back and he's going to be playing 30 minutes.
05:33Right away.
05:34Yeah.
05:35Yeah, I just think there's a different way to say it.
05:37Maybe I'm just nitpicking.
05:38But, like, if you say the team's been spectacular, I just want to make sure that I don't make things
05:43go the other direction or that I stop the momentum.
05:46And chemistry to me are two different things.
05:48Like, you could say, you could be complimentary of the team and say, man, this thing's been going crazy.
05:53I just hope when I come back I can keep it going as opposed to how I fit in with
05:57chemistry.
05:58But couldn't that just, couldn't he just be being honest about, like, his own insecurity about the situation?
06:03Being like, yeah, man, I don't know how I'm going to fit in.
06:06Like, they're playing a little bit different than I'm accustomed to us playing.
06:10Like, I don't know exactly how I'm going to.
06:11He might just be completely honest.
06:13He also said, I ain't going to be no role player.
06:16Yeah, to the doctor six weeks after surgery.
06:18Right, but you're saying he's being modest.
06:19I mean, that's...
06:20Well, I'm not saying he's being modest.
06:21I'm saying he's being honest.
06:23Yeah, and that, especially when he said it on the pivot where this was maybe a month ago or so.
06:28So he's getting closer and he looks at how good this team is playing.
06:32This team's, you know, a number two seed or they might have been a number three seed at the time.
06:36And he's probably, like, you know, human nature is like, wow, they are playing really good.
06:42I don't want to disrupt the chemistry in any way because I know when I come back, they're going to
06:50incorporate me into a large role.
06:52And I don't want to be the guy because, you know, human nature, you don't want to be that guy
06:55who's like...
06:56I love the back and forth on this.
06:58I wish he would just, like, literally just show up and play and we could get over this.
07:02It's like...
07:03He's got to be clear, though.
07:04Truth Hurts the Nerd in the Twitch chat says there is no way he's playing 30 minutes.
07:09No way.
07:09So dumb, Wiggy, is what Truth...
07:11Why?
07:12That's what Truth Hurts the Nerd said.
07:14I don't know.
07:14Because he got hurt, like...
07:16He's rusty.
07:16He's rusty.
07:17If I only...
07:18Even if he's cleared to play, he's cleared to play.
07:19Right.
07:19And if I only have one person to kind of go off of a reference, that would be Kobe Bryant
07:27who came back in less time and averaged 30 minutes.
07:32Yeah, but you're also talking about a team that doesn't necessarily need him to play 30 minutes right now to
07:37continue to succeed.
07:38Right, but you're not bringing a guy back, like, at Tatum's status to go, okay, he can play 30 minutes,
07:44but we're only going to play him 15 because of the chemistry.
07:48You're getting a...
07:49No, I'm not talking about the chemistry.
07:50I'm just talking about he's getting the rust off, so let's not push him in immediately to 30 minutes.
07:56Like, the first game back 30 minutes is absurd, in my opinion.
07:59And if he's just replacing Baylor Shireman, how is that impacting the chemistry?
08:04Obviously, he's a much better player with one leg.
08:07And that's why I think...
08:09So what are we talking about with chemistry?
08:10I don't get it.
08:11Well, I think the chemistry more of...
08:13Not Shireman's role, but I think more of the Jalen Brown role and how the chemistry has looked with him
08:19as the leader of the team.
08:20I mean, it's not really chemistry.
08:23It's one of the two of them is going to be bothered by how it goes and how many minutes...
08:29But that's going to affect the chemistry.
08:30How many touches and who's the alpha?
08:34Like, that's the issue.
08:35Right, but the one guy that who...
08:37Chemistry is a nice way of saying it.
08:39Yeah, but that's still...
08:40On Jason Tatum's part.
08:41Right, but that's still...
08:42He's like, basically, I'm going to come back if I am the guy.
08:46Sorry, Jalen.
08:47No, he's not.
08:48You can take a backseat.
08:50No.
08:52I don't know where you're going with that one, that one.
08:54I think he's looking at it like, Jalen has done an amazing job.
08:59And the chemistry that this team has had with Jalen has been spectacular.
09:04Has he said that?
09:05No, no, I'm saying...
09:06No, but has Jason Tatum said...
09:07No, he hasn't said that.
09:08It's incredible what Jalen Brown has done with his team in my absence.
09:11No, I mean, I didn't hear that.
09:13I haven't heard him say that.
09:14I mean, he's been on 16 podcasts.
09:15What has Jalen Brown said about this season and how much he's enjoying it?
09:19He said it's one of his favorites.
09:21Yeah, it's one of...
09:22No, the best one.
09:23Yeah.
09:24The best season I've ever had.
09:26This has been my favorite season so far.
09:28My favorite.
09:29It's been my favorite season so far.
09:32Right.
09:32Because he's the guy.
09:33If you had a colleague say that when you were out, Wings, what would you think?
09:37Like, come on.
09:38Why can't we just be humans?
09:40But that's what we are, though.
09:41We are.
09:42They are being humans about it.
09:43Right.
09:43So it would bother you, right?
09:45But we all believe it bothers them.
09:47I'm asking you, Wings.
09:48Yes.
09:49But we know it bothers them.
09:50I'm asking you.
09:51Yes.
09:52Would it bother you?
09:53Yes.
09:53Okay.
09:53I believe it bothers Jason Tatum.
09:56We've always...
09:56Then we all agree.
09:58Right.
09:58But we've been agreeing.
10:01We've been agreeing on that.
10:02No, you said that it's been out of context.
10:03No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
10:05See, that's where you're wrong.
10:06Hey, check your stress level on your whoop.
10:08Let me check it.
10:09Wiggy and I are both wearing whoops.
10:11This is our new wellness journal.
10:12There it is rejoined.
10:14We both...
10:14Oh, let me check my stress level.
10:16We both got whoops.
10:17I've noticed.
10:18And because we're, you know, we're working on our beach buds.
10:21Yeah.
10:22All right.
10:22How's your sleep?
10:22Stress level's good.
10:23It is.
10:24Stress level's good.
10:25Sweeping, you know.
10:26Sleep.
10:26Sleep.
10:27Yeah, we got to work on that.
10:28You can go keep arguing with Curtis.
10:30No, no.
10:30It's not an argument.
10:31It's just...
10:32It's what I...
10:33All I've said is this.
10:34I believe that they both are a little bit like, you know...
10:40What's the word I'm looking for?
10:41Like, I feel like they're both a little bit...
10:43There's...
10:44I don't want to use friction as the word, but they both feel a certain way.
10:48This human nature.
10:48This is...
10:49Jalen Brown feels great because it's an opportunity for him to prove himself.
10:53And he's shown that.
10:54Jason Tatum is probably looking at it and going, wait a second.
10:57I'm coming back to a team that's doing so well.
11:01And there is a little concern of maybe how I fit into that team because of the role that
11:07I normally played.
11:09Like, we all agree on that.
11:11But you guys are making it seem like Tatum is not coming back because he's like, I'm pissed.
11:17I'm taking my ball and going home.
11:18Do you think when Courtney comes back after having the baby that she's going to be worried
11:24about affecting the chemistry of this show?
11:28See, but we can't have this conversation because when we go down this road, people tend to,
11:32you know, they get a little bit...
11:34No, you can have the conversation.
11:35So that we have the conversation.
11:37I won't be worried about messing with the chemistry because I...
11:40No, but the scenario we try to paint the picture on is if you had...
11:44If we had somebody to fill in for you and that person was here for three months straight...
11:50It doesn't matter.
11:51It doesn't matter.
11:52No, but it's completely different because they don't have somebody filling in.
11:56They have somebody that's already on the team.
11:57No, I know, I know, I know.
11:58But you're not...
11:59We're just talking about the emotions.
12:00But I'm asking you...
12:03When you come back, you're going to walk in here, I'm assuming, and be right back where
12:07you are when you leave.
12:09Yeah.
12:09Like, that's what it should be.
12:10Right.
12:10Like, just come back and find a way to fit in.
12:14You're a part of the team.
12:15Yeah, but I think...
12:15Like, what's the big deal?
12:16I think what Courtney was saying or we were talking about is the emotion and human nature
12:21of people's emotion to come back into a situation...
12:24I think Jason Tatum has been very honest with his emotion.
12:27Right.
12:27That's the bottom line, and I fall more, again, on the point of I don't think that the Jays
12:33let their emotions get in the way of being able to be teammates.
12:36No, and I agree with that.
12:37I think they're able to coexist, and they've shown that.
12:40But I have always said this, and, you know, there is some type...
12:45AP Dave, I always have your back, and you and Twitch right now saying that is cap.
12:49You will be very anxious and concerned to fit back in.
12:51No.
12:51You need help.
12:52Little whiny bitch.
12:53You want me to jump on the Curtis train?
12:56You'll be pissed that you made an enemy out of me.
