00:12Mohammed Daniel Hakim Abdullah was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment by Sessions Court
00:17Judge Noor Hasnia Abdul Razak on Wednesday after failing to pay a 60,000 ringgit fine
00:23imposed by the court.
00:24The 39-year-old mechanic had admitted to cruelly kicking and throwing a white kitten causing
00:30the animal's death at an apartment in Section U16 between 4.50 a.m. and 5 a.m. on October
00:373, 2025.
00:39The sentence takes effect immediately.
00:41In mitigation, Daniel's counsel, Amira Badriya Azahar, appealed for a sentence of less than
00:47one year, citing her client's financial hardship.
00:50She told the court, Daniel earns just 1,700 ringgit a month, supports his wife and their
00:58seven-month-old child, and also cares for his ailing father.
01:02He also suffers from high blood pressure and chronic migraines.
01:06Amira added that stray cats frequently soiled the area outside his home and that her client
01:12had acted in a moment of prolonged stress and emotional breakdown.
01:16She said Daniel now deeply regrets his actions.
01:19The prosecution, however, urged the court to impose a heavier sentence as a firm message
01:25to the public that animal cruelty will not be tolerated.
