00:10was fined 30,000 ringgit by the Ampang Sessions Court on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to the
00:16offence. Judge Norshila Kamarudin handed down the sentence to Kiu Munkiat and ordered him to serve
00:22six months jail if he failed to pay the fine. Kiu was charged with brutally assaulting the male
00:28German shepherd at his home in Pandan Inda at 5.29 p.m. on July 31. The charge was framed under
00:35Section 29, Subsection 1A of the Animal Welfare Act, 2015. A physical examination conducted on the dog
00:44on August 1 revealed a wound on the front of its left leg, along with localised hair loss and skin
00:50redness. Kiu, who was unrepresented, appealed for a lighter sentence on the grounds that he was
00:56supporting his family, and that he beat the dog to teach it a lesson after it bit his hand.

01:08to the government for adoption through the Selangor Veterinary Services Department by qualified and
