A 64-year-old restaurant owner was fined RM2,000 by Batu Gajah Magistrate’s Court on Friday (Feb 27) after he pleaded guilty to a charge of killing a stray dog with a firecracker.

Magistrate Azlin Zeti Zainal Abidin handed down the sentence on Wong Phan Sang and ordered him to serve two months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

00:08on Friday after pleading guilty to killing a stray dog with a firecracker.
00:13Magistrate Azlin Zeti Zainal Abidin handed down the sentence on Wong Fansang and ordered
00:19him to serve two months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
00:23According to the charge sheet, Wong was accused of killing the dog by hurling a firecracker
00:28at about 7.30 p.m. on January 28 at Jalan Seroja, Taman Pusing Baru in Pusing.
00:35The charge was framed under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up
00:41to three years, a fine or both.
00:44Based on the facts of the case, residents reported hearing a loud explosion near a restaurant.
00:50The following day, a complainant obtained CCTV footage from a neighbour showing the accused
00:57throwing an object towards the stray dog, which died at the scene.
01:01A worker from a nearby shop reportedly buried the dog and the authorities were notified immediately.
01:07Acting on the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division in Batu Gaja arrested
01:13Wong on January 30 at the Batu Gaja District Police Headquarters.
01:17During the investigation, he led police to his home and handed over a plastic container containing
01:24a lighter and six ball-type firecrackers of various colours.
01:28Wong later paid the fine in full.
