Animal abuse: Pro badminton player fined RM25,000 for beating husky

A professional badminton player  was fined RM25,000 by the Kajang Sessions Court on Friday (Aug 30) after he pleading guilty to repeatedly beating a dog at his house last month.  21-year-old Samuel Lee was charged with beating a husky on the balcony of his residence at Landmark Residence, Kajang, between 12.09am and 12.19am on July 1 this year. 00:00A professional badminton player has been fined 25,000 ringgit by the Kajang Sessions Court

00:08on Friday after he pleaded guilty to repeatedly beating a dog at his house last month.

00:13Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid imposed the fine on 21-year-old Samuel Lee.

00:19Lee was charged with beating a husky with his hands repeatedly on the balcony of his

00:23residence at landmark residence Kajang on July 1 this year.

00:29According to the facts of the case, Lee's act of beating the dog was recorded by a neighbor

00:33and went viral on social media.

00:36Following the incident, animal rescuers took the husky for treatment at a veterinary clinic

00:41and was found to be traumatized and in extreme fear.

00:45The husky, named Kitster, was kept at the Kota Damansara Veterinary Center for further

00:50treatment and investigations showed that the accused had violated section 29, subsection

00:551, subsection A, of the Animal Welfare Act, 2015, by mistreating the animal.

01:02Earlier, prosecuting officer from the Selangor Veterinary Services Department, Mohammad Sharif

01:08Sabran, suggested that the accused be given severe punishment as a lesson.

01:13He said the case received wide coverage and angered the public.

01:18In mitigating for a lower fine, Lee's lawyer S. Rajashree requested for leniency on the

01:23grounds that his client is a professional badminton player and has a family to depend

01:29on.

01:30It is said the husky is still in the care of the veterinary department.
