00:02You know, my kampung is in a rural area. Back in the 70s, I think transportation and then
00:11cost of living and awareness among my parents was not really good about the importance of having
00:18proper decumen. So, therefore, actually, it's very difficult for them to apply. But ever since
00:25that, when they start to realize it is so important to have a decumen, so they've been applying
00:32for citizenship with JPN, coming to different places. But unfortunately, all the application
00:40was rejected. And it is very, very difficult because in order for them to apply sigil lewat
00:48pendaftaran, they have to bring the bidan. They have to ask somebody, witness that 10 years
00:54older with them. I mean, it's very, very, make life quite difficult for them. And by the
01:01way, my parents, my mom is 70 and my late dad passed away five years back. So every time
01:08got rejected and up to now they still haven't had their citizenship. Okay. Then because my
01:16parents don't have the document, we have four siblings, we have the birth cert, all the
01:25documents that Malaysian have, we have. But because our citizenship need to depend on the
01:31status of our parents. So therefore, we have been granted green IC. By the way, in Malaysia,
01:38if you don't realize, they have three colors for the IC. Blue is for citizenship. Red is
01:44for PR. And mine is green. They call it pemastatin sementara or in English, stateless. Why stateless?
01:53Because your status, it doesn't belong to any country, by the way. That's the thing. Okay.
01:59So it is very, very challenging. I further my study. I thank God I still managed to go
02:05to the school. I got to sekolah rendah, sekolah berdengah. And then I was, you know, managed
02:12to study in UKM. We do two years matriculation. My first year was in Kuching. But the second
02:23year, we need to further study in Kuala Pila. Now that's where the whole story started to happen.
02:29Because the second year, I need to fly to Semenanjung. The moment I went to the airport
02:35together with my friend, the immigrant said, sorry, young man, you cannot fly to peninsula
02:42because your green IC, you are only allowed to constrain within Sarawak. So, I mean, you
02:52think about it as a young, I mean, young man at that time, I was very, very devastated. The
02:58whole dream, I mean, the whole reason I want to study is I want to further my education
03:03to change, you know, the status of my family. I want to, you know, do well in life. But
03:09I thank God for the Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Sarawak. They refer me to Jabatan Immigration
03:18Sarawak. I went there and I was crying, you know, crying, you know, say, I don't know what
03:24to do. Back then, no phone, nothing. I even, I can't even contact my parents, you know. Remember
03:39they give me a letter, Surat Kemudahan. Okay, a letter so that I can fly between Kuching
03:46and Kuala Lumpur. Now, that is how I further my education to Kuala Pilah. So, because of
03:54the situation is very difficult, there's no, I don't see any progress for my parents, what
04:00I want to call, especially their, their application for citizenship. So, I've been trying to apply
04:07my citizenship without my parents. So, I, I try on my own. So, so I go and see the JPN
04:14and KDN. But in 1998, that is where I start to take it to the third, next level. That is,
04:22I write directly to Kementerian Dalam Negeri, 1998. Okay, since 1998, so we have many home
04:34ministers changing, so I go and apply, and then most of the time, lost the file, don't
04:41know what happened, and change government, and I have to reapply all over again. But I persistently
04:48just go, go. Because when I ask them, how can I get my IC? They say only one person
04:54can maybe approve. That is the minister himself. Alright? Okay. So, after so many, many years,
05:04since 1998, last year, this 2025, I thank God, the new government under the Kerajaan Madani,
05:13they're really concerned for what is going on for the life of the rakyat. So, I, I thank
05:22the minister, that is Dr. Sri Saifuddin Nasir Tion. Actually, he really done a good job. He
05:30looked into the case, and I, I have my approval. My hope is this, there are thousands of people
05:39like Solomon one outside there. So, this is the human capital. This is the future of the nation.
05:48These are the people that are able to help to build this nation, to be a better country.
05:55So, I think we need to help give them hope, we need to give them future, so that they can
06:02have proper education. They can access to all, I mean, whatever, you know, that the government
06:08is giving, then giving back to the country.
06:11So, thank you.
