A controversy has erupted in the Lucknow Rail Division after a loco pilot allegedly undressed before a senior officer to show his unhealed surgical wounds when his request for extension of medical leave was reportedly denied.

According to leaders of the All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA), loco pilot Rajesh Meena, who underwent piles surgery on February 22 in Lucknow, was initially granted leave from February 22 to February 28. However, when his condition did not improve, he sought an extension as per procedure.

Union leaders said Meena approached the Railway Health Unit, where a doctor examined him and reportedly advised him to obtain a “sick memo” from his seniors. He then met the crew controller and Chief Crew Controller (CCC) Ratan Kumar for the required approval.

AILRSA alleged that despite producing medical documents, lab reports, prescriptions, and showing bandages and dressings, Meena’s request for rest leave was not accepted. In a video that has since circulated among railway employees’ WhatsApp groups, Meena and his colleagues are seen confronting the officer. The union claims that in desperation, Meena removed his trousers to display his unhealed wound.

“It is shameful that a loco pilot had to take such a step to seek medical leave,” said K.C. James, Secretary General of AILRSA. Adarsh Kumar Gupta, Assistant Secretary General (Northern Zone), stated that the union has demanded strict action against the CCC.

The union further said that Meena later approached a community union leader, following which senior officers intervened and he was reportedly granted rest leave.

No immediate response was received from Sunil Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager of the Northern Railway, Lucknow Division.

The matter has triggered widespread discussion among railway staff, with the union terming the alleged treatment as inhuman. Further developments are awaited.
