A second-year PU college student was allegedly assaulted by her uncle for refusing to drop out of school at Palya village in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district.

The injured student has been identified as Poornima. According to the police complaint, the incident occurred after she returned home from writing her II PUC Kannada examination.

It is alleged that her uncle, Somanna, entered the house and attacked her with a stick, objecting to her continuing her education. Family members who intervened were also assaulted.

Poornima has alleged that she was being raised under Somanna’s care and that he did not want her to pursue her studies or build a better future.

She has been admitted to the Nanjangud Government Hospital and is undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered against Somanna and six others at the Nanjangud Rural Police Station. Police have launched an investigation.
