Meantime the Opposition is seeking to make it clear that it is the PNM administration which negotiated the deals which will now see T&T benefit from higher gas prices, amid the war in the Middle East... and former Energy Minister Stuart Young has a warning for the government. Rynessa Cutting has more.

00:00As oil and gas prices skyrocket amid the war in the Middle East, gas producers like Trinidad and Tobago are
00:08set to reap the benefit.
00:10However, the opposition would like the country to know. That's in large part due to work done during the PNM's
00:16time in office.
00:17Where for the first time in the world, it was a global achievement, the PNM administration managed to restructure the
00:27shareholding and the arrangements of an LNG facility.
00:30And that was achieved in December 2023.
00:33And thankfully, some of the benefits of that are the pricing formula that we actually got to apply to certain
00:41gas contracts from 2019, where we are now going to receive higher prices for some of the natural gas in
00:49Trinidad and Tobago.
00:50But the former energy minister notes that Atlantic LNG trains one and four are currently out of service, awaiting emergency
00:59repair and planned maintenance respectively.
01:01And he's sending this message to the NGC chairman.
01:05So him coming out and beating his incompetent chess as usual, and to say that NGC is putting pressure on
01:14Atlantic to have all three trains running, do not by doing so cause and create an industrial disaster because you
01:23don't play.
01:24This is not a Lego set that you think it is.
01:28You cannot play with the safety of these plants that require the maintenance that has been scheduled.
01:35Meantime, with no new energy deals signed and sealed, the former energy minister is declaring that all of TNT's eggs
01:42are in the dragon gas basket.
01:45So when you look at OFAC license, the general license number 50, you do not see NGC.
01:52You do not see the government of Trinidad and Tobago.
01:55The previous OFAC license that we had negotiated and obtained was strategically done in the name of the government of
02:04Trinidad and Tobago.
02:05But if you're not sitting at the table and you're persona non grata in Venezuela, and up to this moment,
02:11even though the president of the United States refers to the president of Venezuela as Delcy Rodriguez, you cannot even
02:19speak to her.
02:21You cannot even acknowledge her as president.
02:23Where does that leave Trinidad and Tobago?
02:25Renasa Cutting, TV6 News.
