00:00So stand by, stand by at the right time, you will start to hear the exciting things that
00:08are going to be taking place in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:11Prime Minister Thiby Stewart-Young is putting the country on notice ahead of his appointment
00:15as Prime Minister on a date which is yet to be announced.
00:19I get a sense that there is a new wave that is about to take place in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:27I have now been charged with the responsibility of planning the future of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:37And you, the young people, are such a critical component of that.
00:42Part of his plans, says Young, is a revamp of the education system.
00:47He was speaking at the Heroes Development Programme graduation ceremony.
00:51One of the things I'm planning for our future is how do we change the educational curriculum?
00:58How do we intervene now and start to shed ourselves of the colonial curriculum that
01:05we have?
01:06How do we make it more relevant today to give our future citizens the best opportunities,
01:13not only here but globally?
01:16Stewart-Young, who is expected to take the reins from Dr Rowley upon the latter's resignation,
01:21has been the subject of much public discourse, with concerns even raised in some quarters
01:26over his heritage.
01:28And I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with Trinidad and Tobago to ensure that
01:35we unify, to ensure that we put past conversations that have no place in our modern Trinidad
01:44and Tobago, behind us, as we take hold of our destiny.
01:50And I look forward to engaging with you, the young people, to hear your views, to hear
01:56your thoughts, to hear what it is you think we should be thinking of in our decision-making
02:02as we go forward, to build our, our Trinidad and Tobago.
02:09Because no one person, no one group has any entitlement to Trinidad and Tobago.
02:17It is ours.
02:19With Dr Rowley maintaining his position as PNM political leader, Young may or may not
02:23be leading the People's National Movement into the 2025 general election, a date for
02:29which is yet to be announced.
02:31And I assure you here today, because I can give this assurance, that for the period of
02:37time that my colleagues and I in the government have the stewardship of Trinidad and Tobago,
02:45we will put it in a better place to hand the battle over to you in the future.
02:51Vanessa Cutting, TB6 News.
