00:00How do the Warriors fix this? How do they save this? How would you feel if they did do essentially
00:06what amounts to kind of a feel-good retirement tour next year?
00:11I don't know how many of them would retire. LeBron probably would.
00:16And by the way, let me just say this real quick. Before everybody does the, oh God, LeBron, this is
00:24absolutely 100% possible.
00:28If he wants to take $30 million.
00:31Right, but all I'm telling you is this is not me and my laptop just making something up.
00:37I get it.
00:38And there's no free agent machine where you could type in and see if it works.
00:42If you lose that salary spot and he wants to play for whatever Porzingis was making, then it can absolutely
00:48happen.
00:48The Warriors have tried to get LeBron before. LeBron has had eyes for Steph Curry.
00:54I know the rumor that LeBron wants to end his career back in Cleveland.
00:58Maybe he will. Maybe that's even the favorite.
01:01I'm not handicapping this. I'm just telling you this is realistic.
01:05This is possible.
01:06And if I'm the Warriors, this is exactly what I would do right now.
01:11Because I don't know if even they are fully prepared for the public relations backlash that this thing is already
01:21representing.
01:22I was going to say, yeah.
01:23And this is what I've been saying to you for the last few days.
01:26A lot of people, this is my kind of view.
01:29This is where I come from on it.
01:30A lot of people are stuck in the argument still of, is J.K. playing like a star in Atlanta?
01:38Will he be a star?
01:40And then there's the people that are like, but he wasn't a star here.
01:43And he wouldn't fit with Steph.
01:45And we're still having the argument that's centered around, will J.K. be great and he was held back, or
01:53will he not and he's overrated?
01:55That's done.
01:55Like it's over.
01:56That's the part that's over.
01:58You're exactly, exactly right.
02:00And the Warriors are losing the breakup.
02:02The problem with that is, that's a nuanced conversation.
02:06And it will get lost.
02:08The only thing, and the Warriors, and no one should expect any different.
02:13The only thing the average fan is going to see are box scores and highlights.
02:18And Christoph Porzingis doesn't play, and Jonathan dunks a lot.
02:23Jonathan is averaging 21 a night.
02:25And then you watch last night, and, you know, there are Warriors who you've never heard of.
02:31And you and I do this for a living on the flagship.
02:33And you've got, this year, you've had a litany of guys who just seem to pop up out of nowhere.
02:39Seriously.
02:40Not that they're not good.
02:41No, but you're like, when did they even get that guy?
02:43I mean, the pride of Rochester, New York.
02:45He had a great post-game interview yesterday.
02:47I mean, he seems like a great guy.
02:49He's 27.
02:50Nate Williams, by the way, for people who don't know who Dibs is talking about.
02:53I mean, Pat Spencer's become a mainstay.
02:55And Guy Santos got an extension.
02:57And, you know, Posty, as Stiney calls him, Quentin Post.
03:00And these are all guys who should be players 9 through 13.
03:03And if you do get LeBron, will it work?
03:06Will you win a chip?
03:07Probably not.
03:08But it would be entertaining.
03:09That's always probably not, right?
03:11And ultimately, we are in the entertainment business, right?
03:13Well, and I think you would also be setting up something that whether this is what you should have done
03:19or not, we're here.
03:21We're here.
03:22Yeah.
03:23So, you can't have Jonathan back.
03:26And you can't redo this.
03:28Or you can't go back a few years and trade him when you should have.
03:31Or whatever your opinion is.
03:33We're here.
03:35And if it feels to you like this idea is placating the old guys, okay.
03:41For a year at this point, I'm fine with that.
03:44You know what that would be, right?
03:45It would be a placation sensation.
03:46That's right.
03:47Like, what else can you do?
03:50Like, LeBron looks annoyed with Luka.
03:53Yeah.
03:53Steph looks, I don't know, just...
03:55He's just frustrated.
03:56Yeah, right.
03:57He looks like he's in some sort of meditative space, like he's off on the mountains or whatever.
04:03Draymond looks awful at basketball and therefore fighting against his own father time clock.
04:11Steve Kerr looks like, I don't know, somewhere between lost and happy because he's over here just being like,
04:19I'm having fun.
04:19These young guys play hard.
04:21And then you're getting, like, good little stories, which is not really what we want.
04:26We're not used to that.
04:27We've been spoiled.
04:28Right.
04:28Keith Santos, Pat Spencer, great stories.
04:31Okay, now it's Tuesday.
04:33Exactly.
04:33And great story.
04:34And even pods yesterday where the way he played in the first half, he had 20 and he's lighting it
04:38up.
04:39And I was joking with you off the air that he's been my prize picks, my underdog absolute go-to.
04:45Yep.
04:45Because he's Captain Tryhard.
04:47And by the first half last night, he had hit his points, rebounds, and assists over.
04:52And so, yeah, then the second half, he's just awful and lost again.
04:56Moody hurts his shoulder.
04:58Moody hurts his wrist.
04:59Draymond looks washed.
05:00So you asked before, like, what could you do?
05:03Well, you could not renew Kerr.
05:05You could trade Draymond as an expiring deal.
05:08I mean, you could do drastic things, but they are already so pot committed on doing this.
05:13That makes the LeBron idea, it's outlandish, but like you said, it's not super crazy, and I looked it up.
05:21Net worth of $1.3 billion for LeBron.
05:24Yep.
05:25He's made $530 million on the floor.
05:27And so could he, for one year, take a bargain deal of only $30 million?
05:32Well, like, I buy, a few people I've run this by, I buy their response, which is that I don't
05:40think LeBron's retirement tour is going to be on someone else's turf and terms.
05:45And that may be the case.
05:46Maybe LeBron is that self-centered, that he needs to go to Cleveland, and the whole thing every night needs
05:52to fully be about him.
05:53I don't even begrudge him for that if he does.
05:56For God's sakes, he's earned that.
05:58So, like, I have no issue with that.
06:01But, if I'm the Warriors, I would try.
06:04Every, all the characters we're talking about look unhappy right now.
06:08And this would make them happy.
06:11Don't you think LeBron?
06:12Oh, Draymond would be thrilled.
06:13Draymond would be thrilled.
06:14Steph would be thrilled.
06:16LeBron would be thrilled.
06:18And the fans who think they'd be mad, you two would be thrilled.
06:22You'd be frustrated at times.
06:23And I know there are a lot of people that don't want LeBron to ever get one of those jerseys.
06:28And my answer is, you'll get over it.
06:31You'll get over it.
06:32I got over Chris Paul getting a Warrior jersey.
06:35You'll get over it.
06:37But it's...
06:37Does Draymond give up number 23 for LeBron?
06:40Maybe.
06:41It's been one of his numbers.
06:41Yeah, maybe he goes to 23 and a half.
06:43Who knows?
06:44Like, I don't know.
06:45But I just, I think that this has to be your effort now.
06:48And please don't mistake me.
06:50I'm not saying that in a perfect world, this is how you would have played it.
06:55I'm simply saying this is how I'd play it now.
06:58Like, you've arrived here.
07:00Right.
07:00You've arrived here.
07:01Understand that the national media now has grabbed this in a way that's different than before.
07:08Remember when Brian Wynhorst a few weeks ago pretended like he was falling asleep?
07:13And he's like, I can't talk about Jonathan Kaminga, a bench player who doesn't play most nights.
07:19I can't talk about this drama anymore.
07:21Well, now it's shifted.
07:22Yes, it has.
07:23Because now he's on the court.
07:24And now the Warriors, I don't know if they're aware of this.
07:28I bet they are.
07:30I'm sure you are an NBA national embarrassment right now.
07:34Egg on face.
07:35You've got the greatest dunker in the history of the game highlighting just exactly what a great dunker he is
07:41in Atlanta.
07:42You know?
07:42I'm not even saying that that's actually the way this is all going to play out.
07:46Again, the non-nuanced conversation is unfolding.
07:51And the bottom line is, is there's an arena in Atlanta, Georgia, where they're chanting thank you, Warriors.
07:58There's a Hall of Famer who's thanking the Warriors on the air for giving them for free in their minds
08:06a young 23-year-old player who can literally dunk with his chin.
08:12And so...
08:13If Kaminga to Atlanta was the Niners versus the Seahawks, then Rasheed Shaheed just returned the opening kick for a
08:19touchdown.
08:20That's kind of where we are.
08:21So you've got to go save this thing, man.
08:23Yeah.
08:23You've got to go save this thing.
08:25You've got to do something.
08:26The hard thing to know is you can't do anything right now.
08:28You can't do anything right now.
08:29And that's what we have to sit through and hope that Steph will get healthy and hope that Kristaps Porzingis
08:37will play at some point.
08:39And maybe that does give us play-in fun and a trip to the playoffs.
08:43That's obviously all still on the table.
08:45Also, unfortunately, on the table is you don't see any of those players again this year.
08:51Kristaps ends his Warriors career with one game.
08:54And the Warriors get knocked out of the play-in tournament in the first round.
08:57That's on the table as well.
08:59Yeah.
09:00But no matter where this goes from here, you have to take what is reality and now try to turn
09:09it into something positive.
09:11And to me, this is the next play.
09:14Well, the next play is going to be having to do with that salary slot.
09:19And the one thing I'll give Dunleavy credit for is he was able to hold on to the picks.
09:24You didn't give up a bunch of draft assets for a guy who is not healthy enough to play.
09:28So you still have all your picks.
09:30You do have that salary slot.
09:32And you go into the offseason.
09:34Maybe you're in Secaucus for the lottery.
09:36Maybe you move up and you get a pretty good pick in a draft that many experts have told us
09:41is a very deep draft.
09:42And so you might be able to start to turn it around and then you do something with the poor
09:46Zingas salary slot.
09:47And you turn around in October and better news about Jimmy who's, you know, starting to move around a little
09:53bit and all the rest of it.
09:54So the tough part is right now there's nothing you can do except watch Hawks games with one eye covered
10:01and hope that he doesn't go for 28 and 9.
10:04By the way, I put out some misinformation sensation yesterday.
10:10Yeah, I don't know where I got my wires crossed on the schedule.
10:14Ta-ting!
10:15And I thought the Spurs were in Atlanta tonight.
10:18And they're not.
10:20The Spurs, in fact, aren't playing Atlanta the rest of the year.
10:22So the Hawks are off again tonight.
10:25They're in Milwaukee tomorrow.
10:26Ooh.
10:27Yeah.
10:27Against the rejuvenated Bucs with Giannis.
10:29Giannis is back.
10:30Giannis is playing.
10:31Yeah, so Giannis.
10:32You're stiff, but, you know.
10:34Giannis and J.K., J.K.'s first road game with the Atlanta Hawks.
10:38Yeah, and I was checking that out because I was trying to go to the underdog.
10:42And, you know, Kaminga's a guy right now.
10:43Maybe the market's already adjusted to him.
10:45But the way he's playing so aggressively, rebounding.
10:49He's rebounding, Mark.
10:50He's rebounding.
10:51And his agent always said if you play him, he can rebound.
10:53He looks great.
10:54And that's why I do.
10:56I really reel back to, without weighing in on Steve Kerr versus Jonathan Kaminga,
11:03I'm confused by this deal.
11:07I'm confused by the timing of it.
11:09I'm confused by the way that they sort of sold to us that Rick Celebrini was going to sprinkle Christopps
11:17with magic dust
11:18and he would be able to play.
11:19And that he's ready to go.
11:22There's, like, if I buy what the Warriors were selling, which is that there was no market for Jonathan Kaminga,
11:30then my answer is fine.
11:32I buy that.
11:33Then don't trade him.
11:35You said repeatedly we don't want to give him away for nothing.
11:39And you got all the way down to the end of this entire conversation, and then you did.
11:46For nothing.
11:47Yep.
11:48So far it's been nothing.
11:49He said what feels like, and I don't want that to sound disrespectful to Christopps.
11:52I know he's going through stuff.
11:53But in this moment, it feels like you traded Jonathan and Buddy for nothing.
11:59Yeah, Nick Friedle, who will join us a little bit later in the show, has a quote in here from
12:03Kerr.
12:04He says, it's a little mysterious.
12:05We're obviously working with him, and he can get some clarity, and he can kind of break through,
12:09and he can get to a point where he's consistently healthy.
12:12But that's something that the medical staff is working hard on with him.
12:16And then Steve says, I'm not going to posit any medical theories anymore.
12:20So that was fun while it lasted.
12:22Steve playing doctor.
12:24888-957-9570 is the number.
12:27We would love to hear from you on this.
12:29Let's go.
12:30Let's go to Lucky in the city.
12:31Hi, Lucky.
12:32Thanks for calling.
12:32What's up?
12:35Hey, afternoon, fellas.
12:36How you doing?
12:38I don't know.
12:38I haven't been feeling too well, man.
12:40I'm just getting over this bug, and I'm hearing that we're entertaining or people are trying to put LeBron James
12:48on the Warriors.
12:49Yep.
12:50What are we doing, dude?
12:51If that's the case, man, go sign.
12:54Go grab Paul George and John Moran, man.
12:57Like, I definitely, it'll put me back in my sickness, man.
13:02And I might as well go and sit in the room and do ayahuasca again, man.
13:07Come on.
13:08It's on the table, Lucky.
13:09Again?
13:10Go ahead, Lucky.
13:12Dibs.
13:13Dibs.
13:13Are you telling me that you want LeBron James on the Warriors?
13:17I want to hear this from a San Franciscan.
13:19Are you telling me that?
13:20I'm not against it because I don't know.
13:22Also not in San Franciscan.
13:23I don't know, Lucky, what else we do.
13:25I lived in the city for about eight years.
13:27That's not good.
13:28I mean, I just don't know what course of action you can take to turn this thing into a real
13:33threat.
13:34So if you're going to make it a sideshow, then let's sideshow it up.
13:39You've got to figure, man.
13:40Okay, we're down right now.
13:43Yes, that's fine.
13:44Like, everybody is hurt.
13:45Why would you go make a ridiculous, desperate move like that to bring in somebody who we've been trying to
13:52take his head off for the last 10 years and bring him on our team?
13:56I, as a longtime Warrior fan, do not want that at all.
14:01I'm sorry, guys.
14:02And Lucky, you probably speak for many, and I get that.
14:07But let me give you a little bit of a further explanation on this.
14:10It's actually the opposite of a desperate move.
14:12It's the opposite of a desperate move because it's very short term.
14:16And for every single one of you, and I see a lot of you, you're giving me something that's rational,
14:22but we're in an irrational space right now.
14:26Clearly.
14:27Clearly.
14:28They just traded a high-flying 23-year-old dunker for somebody who's too sick to play.
14:33We're not in a rational space.
14:35So I'm taking the rules the Warriors have given us, which is, quote, everything for Steph.
14:42We still think we're a contender.
14:44We want veterans who know what they're doing.
14:47And now, because of the Jimmy injury, they're ramping it up toward next year.
14:51And next year is a mini last dance.
14:54So for every one of you who want to get younger, I'm sorry, there's no way to do that next
14:59year.
15:00There's no way to do that.
15:01And if you want to do that, then I invite you, maybe we should set this up.
15:05We'll set up a little conference, and Steph will be there.
15:08And you all can explain to him that his Warrior career and competition are over because we're going young.
15:15Do you see what I mean?
15:17I get that what you're saying might be smart, but we're not in a smart space here.
15:21We're in a Steph's got one year left on a contract.
15:25How do we do this so that everybody at least feels like they've got a shot to go win?
15:32That's what I'm getting at.
15:34I agree with you that this might not be smart, but smart left town a few weeks ago.
15:39But it's also, to many, it's personally distasteful because of what you think about LeBron.
15:45And Lucky even pointed it out where, you know, he's out here trying to take the Warriors' head off and
15:49vice versa.
15:50And so there's a lot of water under the bridge for fans.
15:53It's not so much for these guys.
15:55Steph just won a gold with him.
15:56Exactly.
15:57LeBron, I mean, Draymond was thinking about going down to watch LeBron's record-breaking game,
16:03even though they had a game that same night.
16:05They're all great friends.
16:06Exactly.
16:06And the thing about Paul George and John Morant, they each have two more years on their deal.
16:11So that's a non-starter for the Warriors.
16:13Yeah.
16:14Tom in the city is next.
16:15Hi, Tom.
16:15Thank you for calling.
16:16What's up?
16:19Oh, let's try.
16:20Let's go to Dave in the city.
16:23Hi, Dave.
16:23What's up?
16:25What's up with my Shawshank brothers, Red and Andy?
16:29What's going on?
16:30See?
16:30What?
16:31DeNejo.
16:31It's my first.
16:33I just want to first.
16:34I completely agree.
16:36I mean, this is the only way Dunleavy is going to save his job.
16:39He has to do something.
16:41I mean, you let Jordan Poole and Kaminga, the future, they basically walked away for nothing.
16:47So he has to do this.
16:48I mean, every time you've seen Steph on the floor with LeBron, like, they make magic together.
16:53And if you want to say, like, oh, a real San Francisco is not going to like this, we accepted
16:57Richard Sherman in a 49ers jersey.
17:00Say it.
17:01And look where he got us.
17:03Good point.
17:03Say it.
17:04This is the last for all.
17:05This is the, this is like, all right, put everything on the table, get Braun, and get him with Curry,
17:12and let them make sweet love.
17:14And you know what?
17:16They will come.
17:17Everybody else will come.
17:18If you get Braun and Curry together, you don't think they're going to do heavy recruiting?
17:22They'll get them in.
17:23Thanks.
17:24Was Oral Hershiser a giant?
17:26I was literally, you just took the words out of my mouth.
17:30Richard Sherman, a niner, Oral Hershiser, a giant, and now, and Chris Paul was a warrior.
17:36And you're going to tell me, and I, again, I said that, did I not say this before I even
17:41said the name?
17:41I go, you're going to roll your eyes?
17:43Some of you are going to be bothered by this?
17:45You got lucky sick again.
17:46Here's my take.
17:48You hate the idea, but oh, man, you'll be there for it.
17:52When it comes, you will be there for it when it comes.
17:56I defy every single warrior fan out there.
17:59I know some of you don't want it.
18:02I didn't want Chris Paul.
18:03You were sitting next to me the day that trade went down.
18:06Oh, I laughed so hard.
18:08Yuck, yuck, and more yuck the entire day.
18:11I still look back on that, and I'm annoyed that that happened.
18:15Yeah.
18:15But I know you don't want it.
18:18I know you don't like the idea in theory, but there ain't no way in hell you're not getting a
18:25ticket to watch that.
18:26And it's for one year.
18:28Yeah.
18:28And then you just clear the books and see where everything is at that point.
18:32And maybe that's the end of Draymond.
18:34He goes to be a broadcaster, and maybe LeBron hangs it up, and Steph decides to come back one more
18:39time.
18:39You never know.
18:40But I think that where you are now as an organization is where you are.
18:45And so you have to navigate forward.
18:47You can't navigate back and say, and we can go through all the ways that they didn't do the right
18:53thing with Kaminga by playing him or trading him earlier, et cetera.
18:56But that's all water under the bridge.
18:58We're here now, and now you have to figure out what you do next.
19:02We're brought to you by Fremont Bank.
19:04Here for you, here for good.
19:05I'm in complete agreement with you.
19:07Bottom line, bottom line, forget your JK argument.
19:11The Warriors are in the midst of a PR disaster.
