What is going on with WR Stefon Diggs? Clean social media?
Transcript
00:00You brought up social media, and from time to time, we read into what athletes are doing on it.
00:08So what is it that you wanted to bring up?
00:10Steph Diggs, who we've been talking about quite a bit recently, whether it's his relationship with Cardi B or his
00:15future with the Patriots, completely wiped his Instagram yesterday.
00:19But still has his story going, like he posted a video of him at the gym yesterday.
00:24He had a spread with GQ that he was sharing.
00:27So what does that mean? When you say wiped it, did he mention the Patriots on it?
00:35Yeah, he had plenty of photos. I'm talking about all his photos.
00:40Have you ever done it before?
00:41Wiped my entire Instagram? No.
00:43Wiped Instagram, right?
00:45Have you ever deleted any photos?
00:47Yeah.
00:47So you'd have to go through each one individually. You probably could just wipe the whole thing if you want
00:52to do it the easiest way.
00:54No.
00:54Because he's going to have to pick and choose Cardi B photos?
00:56There's not that many.
00:58Really?
00:58Yeah. He didn't have many of them.
01:00No, I think it's interesting. I mean, it's clearly, I guess it's clearly trying to send some message.
01:07I don't know who the message is being sent to.
01:09It's also weird timing.
01:11Do you think the Patriots look at this and go, oh, somebody like stretches going into Mike's office and going,
01:16hey, Mike, you're not going to believe this?
01:18No.
01:18Steph Diggs is completely wrong.
01:19I don't know. Do you think they pay attention to that?
01:21No, I don't think they pay attention.
01:23I think that they pay attention to their social media of their players, as they should, because...
01:26Unless it's something slick that they say.
01:28Right. But I don't think Mike Rabel cares at all what he just did.
01:32Unless it's something where Diggs or somebody says something on social media with the organization tied in there.
01:38Like, I really don't think, you know, they care in any way at all.
01:43And for us as fans, all right, maybe he's wiping it because...
01:47Do you think, we talked a lot about this yesterday, but somebody was asking me yesterday afternoon about this, and
01:52I didn't know.
01:54They were asking what you thought, and I didn't know the answer.
01:57Do you think he's willing to accept a restructured deal?
02:00No.
02:01You don't?
02:02No, because I think he feels like 20...
02:04He got to a Super Bowl this year.
02:06Yeah, and I think he feels like 20 million dollars is...
02:11Fair market value.
02:12Fair market value for him.
02:14So why would I restructure?
02:16Why would I take less?
02:17You would take less, a little bit less, whatever it is, because you have the opportunity to get back to
02:24the Super Bowl.
02:25I'll put it to you like this, Greg.
02:27Robert Kraft made more money last year than he did the year before, and you think you're a big reason
02:31why.
02:32Why would you allow your boss to give you less money?
02:33Yeah, I wouldn't take less if I was him, because I would be like, all right, you know, I know
02:38how difficult it is to get back to a Super Bowl.
02:41He's probably thinking, all right, we have a good team.
02:43Can we get back there?
02:44Maybe, but I'm not going to pass up an offer to make more money someplace else.
02:50What if they tell him, listen, we think we can get A.J. Brown, and we need to restructure here,
02:57because that's what we're trying to do.
02:59You know, theoretically, Tom Brady used to do that all the time.
03:03Yeah, so what, Tom Brady, did it find somebody else to restructure?
03:06Greg, and here's where he is.
03:08This is why it was always a one-year deal, where they both were very public and their support for
03:12one another.
03:13Now, after the year of the injury, Steph Diggs showed he can still play, and he has one more contract
03:20in him.
03:21Then he can't earn like this the rest of his life.
03:24So he's going to go to the highest bidder, which is what he should do, and that's not going to
03:28be here.
03:28Right, and why not just keep him on the contract for what you've got to pay him, and then you
03:33have a portion of your wide receiver room still answered, and you've still got to answer some more.
03:40But at least you have a guy that you know what you're getting out of him, you know what he
03:43means to the locker room, you know what he means to your football team.
03:45But you don't think that's what they're going to do.
03:47I mean, it's clear.
03:48No.
03:48It's clear that they are going to go to him and say, we need this, or, you know, we're going
03:56to release you, or we're going to cut you, or whatever.
03:58Yeah, I mean, and that's the whispers that are out there, and if I'm Steph Diggs' agent, I'm like, let
04:04them cut you, because I can get you what you are going to make anyways, and I get you some
04:08new upfront money, because there'll be a team.
04:11People are like, oh, well, he was one of the last guys to sign last year in the offseason.
04:15Yeah, he was coming off a knee injury.
04:18Well, and you'll get a decision in the next 10 days, because on the 13th, $6 million of that $20
04:24million that he's owed becomes fully guaranteed.
04:25And I told you, if he is cut, he probably becomes one of the top free agent wide receivers that
04:34are available.
04:35He shoots right to the top of the list because of what he did last year as a player, what
04:41he was a part of for the Patriots organization.
04:44There'll be, and Courtney might have brought it up yesterday, a team like Kansas City that would be all in
04:49on that, a team like San Francisco might be all in, a team like...
04:53Well, the Chargers.
04:55The Chargers, yeah, I would say there'd be a handful of teams that would be willing to give him $18,
05:02$19, maybe $20 million in guaranteed money.
05:05This is Joe.
05:06Joe, what's up?
05:08What's up, guys?
05:09Hey.
05:10Yeah, I got to agree with Wiggins, so to speak, as far as...
05:13This is kind of like a no-brainer.
05:16I mean, $20 million for Stephon Diggs.
05:19I think he's a little over $30 million.
05:21I mean, that's his market value.
05:23He's not going to get top wide receiver money, which is, you know, we all know it's around $30 million.
05:28Right.
05:29I mean, what are we waiting for here?
05:32They've got a ton of money.
05:33They've got a ton of money.
05:36Everybody keeps telling me they've got the most money under the cap.
05:39So this is kind of like a, you know, this is like a no-brainer.
05:43Let's go.
05:44Let's sign the guy and let's keep this guy happy because we all know when he's not happy,
05:47he can be disruptive in the locker room and things like that.
05:52But it might just be a characterization guy, you know, his character.
05:58Yeah, I know.
05:58And, Greg, do you remember when they had the new lighthouse put in?
06:01Yeah.
06:01In that offseason, they did very little in terms of spending.
06:04Yeah.
06:04Couldn't you see the same thing with the massive new workout facility they put together?
06:08But, yeah, you brought up that they were raising ticket prices to cover that.
06:11I mean, to me, Robert Kraft doesn't understand how little people care about the financial well-being of the organization.
06:23We all know how successful the Patriots have been.
06:26We're grateful they haven't requested taxpayer money to build things, but they can do both.
06:31They could build a lighthouse and pay players.
06:33And they got the private equity investment this year.
06:35A billion dollars liquid.
06:37But they'll tell you that they made Milton Williams the highest D lineman in the league last year.
06:43You know, they'll probably say, look at what we're going to pay Christian Gonzalez, right?
06:46Right.
06:47So they're going to pay guys.
06:49Joe's right, though.
06:50You already have him on the contract, right?
06:52So all you're really going to do is basically say, all right, we're going to bring him back,
06:55and he's going to get his base salary of $20 million.
06:57And that's kind of where the – if Steph Digg was a free agent right now, that's the money that
07:02he would probably make out there in the world of the NFL.
07:07You would crack me up with this.
07:08Sometimes the S, sometimes not the S.
07:10The S on the words where it's not there.
07:12And then I like – I prefer Steph Digg, actually.
07:15Like, that's a pretty cool name.
07:16Steph's Digg.
07:17Steph Digg.
07:18Diggs, Diggs.
07:19Diggs, Diggs, Diggs.
07:20But, I mean, you already got this guy on the contract.
07:23Just pay him that money.
07:24You still need to add to your wide receiver room.
07:29Then maybe you could – then people would be fine if they said, all right, we're going to take a
07:34wide receiver number 31 overall.
07:36Add him to a room with Steph Diggs and some of these other players.
07:39You might be like, okay, that works for me.
07:42Yeah.
