Two volumes by nineteenth century geologist Reverend William Buckland were discovered in a Beverley charity shop. They are now back at Leeds Central Library for assessment.

00:01Two antique library books borrowed from Leeds Central Library have been returned more than
00:0650 years late after being discovered in a Beverley charity shop. The volumes, written in 1836 by the
00:14Reverend William Buckland, were due back in March 1976. Staff in East Yorkshire contacted the
00:21library before the historic texts were sent back to Leeds for assessment. Late finds were abolished
00:26in 2019. Librarian Sally Hughes said the return was a huge surprise and described the books as
00:33influential works on early geology and fossils. They will rejoin special collections as Story
00:39Explorers continues at the library through to the 30th of May.
