00:00Southwark Libraries has been named the London winner of the British Book Awards Library of the
00:06Year, recognising its work to bring new and returning readers back into local branches.
00:12Eight libraries and library authorities from across the UK and Ireland were selected as
00:17regional and country winners. They were chosen from 42 finalists announced last month, with
00:23judges highlighting organisations that engage with its communities. As part of the National Year of
00:30Reading, the government has also announced up to £150,000 in funding for public libraries.
00:37£5,000 will be shared between the five English regional winners, including Southwark.
