Three women, whose cable-theft video in Shah Alam went viral, were each fined RM5,000 (or six months in prison) on Tuesday (March 3) after pleading guilty to stealing Telekom Malaysia cables on Feb 20 while two men faced RM250 fines or two months in jail for possession of theft tools.

00:13Magistrate Wan Noora Nisa Ngadirin handed down the sentences after all five accused entered guilty pleas to their respective charges.
00:21The three women, Noorul Aliyah Anissia Abdul Razak, age 23, Noor Alisa Natasha Noor Azlan, age 22, and Noor Shasha
00:32Nabila Zamani, age 28, were each fined 5,000 ringgit, or faced six months in prison if they failed to
00:40pay.
00:40Two men, Mohamed Arif Sharif, age 25, and Mohamed Ridzwan Zainul Abedin, age 26, received lighter sentences, a 250 ringgit
00:52fine, or two months imprisonment in default.
00:55According to the charge sheet, the three women stole cables belonging to Telecom Malaysia in Section 3 at around 5am
01:03on February 20th, an incident that was captured on video and widely circulated online.
01:08They were charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison,
01:16a fine, or both.
01:18The two men, meanwhile, were found in Section 7 at around midnight the previous night, in possession of tools used
01:24for theft, without a reasonable explanation for how they obtained them.
01:28They were charged under Section 28 of the Minor Offenses Act, 1955, which carries a maximum fine of 250 ringgit,
01:38six months imprisonment, or both.
01:40On Monday, Selangor Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Shazeli Kaha said nine individuals, believed to be involved in a gang-related
01:48cable theft case in Section 3, were detained during a series of raids.
01:53Record checks found that the majority of them are hardened criminals, with various records involving cable theft, robbery, and drugs.
02:00Seven of them tested positive for meth and THC.
