00:02Saturated ground and severe storms have brought the normally dry Todd River back up.
00:07It's come up probably a metre up this roadway since we've been standing here.
00:12The water isn't as high as during last month's flash flooding and peaked at more than 2.7 metres.
00:19After so much wet weather in the centre, residents are used to road closures.
00:24But the novelty hasn't quite worn off yet.
00:27It's always exciting to see the river flow, hence stepping out of work at the moment and coming down to
00:32have a look.
00:32It's lovely, it's beautiful. We suffered through the 45s and now we get this. It's gorgeous.
00:38For some people the rain is not so nice.
00:40With about 20 people taking refuge from fladwaters in this school gymnasium set up as an emergency shelter behind me.
00:48In some remote parts of the centre, some people were forced to evacuate completely.
00:53Authorities say the vast majority of remote communities are isolated and being monitored.
00:59The Bureau of Meteorology says over the whole of the territory there's been a lot of rain over the past
01:05few weeks.
01:06So across the Todd catchment we've been seeing totals about 25 to 35 millimetres.
01:11But it's not over yet for the normally red, now green centre.
01:16There is the possibility that you will see river rises and creek rises and particularly through central Australia where there's
01:23a lot of floodways.
01:24It's a sight to see, but better from a safe and dry location.
