00:00Also in China, women from the Dulong ethnic group are combining their textile tradition with contemporary fashion to promote economic
00:07growth in their village.
00:08More details in the following report.
00:13In the remote village of Dulongjiang, women from one of China's smallest ethnic groups are improving their living conditions through
00:24Dulong weaving,
00:25a traditional technique passed down from generation to generation.
00:30Thanks to the commercialization of this eye-catching textile product,
00:34the so-called rainbow weavers have gained a new source of income that helps support local families,
00:40who were previously affected by the limitations of agricultural production.
00:48The colorful fabrics, clothing, and blankets have provided weavers with a source of income
00:53that empowers them economically to support their families and share their textile techniques with the world.
01:03Collaborations with important Shanghai fashion houses have helped distribute the fabrics around the country and beyond its borders.
01:13These partnerships, which began in 2015 with a small group of 10 weavers, now employ 500 local women,
01:19highlighting the potential of traditional craftsmanship and the use of plant fibers in today's fashion.
01:27Our customers love the color designed by the weaver Kimme.
01:30Before, we did more of the color ourselves.
01:32But this year, we are going to try something new, let the woman design all the colors palette and salt.
01:40Initiatives such as the NEZNAZ project, created by the Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation,
01:45and the recognition of Dulong carpet-making as intangible cultural heritage of Yunnan province,
01:53have highlighted the region's importance to China's cultural identity,
01:56a distinction that has resulted in visible efforts throughout the village.
02:00I hope the next year will be better than today,
02:05and in the next decade, we will continue to work hard and strive even harder.
