00:00They're going to retire the number of C.C. Sabathia and give him a plaque.
00:05Now, a lot of people get confused by that.
00:07There are plaques and there are monuments.
00:09I believe there's only, I think player-wise, the only guys with monuments are Lou Gehrig,
00:15Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio.
00:18And I think George Steinbrenner has a monument.
00:23I think they're the only five guys.
00:24Am I right about that?
00:26I think I'm right about that.
00:26And then you have a bunch of guys that have gotten plaques.
00:32C.C. Sabathia, Hall of Famer, now gets a plaque at Yankee Stadium.
00:37And the number 52 now gets retired.
00:40And it just dawned on me, like, there's no numbers left.
00:44No numbers left.
00:44Like, all the single-digit numbers, you know, are gone.
00:47And virtually every other number is pretty much gone.
00:50And I wonder if we're starting to water down retired jerseys with the New York Yankees maybe a little bit.
00:56Paul O'Neal.
00:58Okay.
00:59Paul O'Neal.
01:00Like, really?
01:01No.
01:02C.C. was the Yankee for 11 years.
01:04Yeah.
01:05Got the one World Series championship in 2009.
01:08The last one.
01:08And he was a beast, obviously, that year.
01:10Yeah.
01:10He was a horse that whole year.
01:13Yeah.
01:13So, he played more for the Yankees than he did for Milwaukee and Cleveland.
01:17And Cleveland.
01:18Yeah.
01:18So, I have no issue with that at all, that he's being honored.
01:21But it seems like, you know, you're not allowed to have a triple-digit jersey in Major League Baseball.
01:27I understand the – like, if you had to pick one, retire the jersey or give the guy the plaque?
01:33I guess it's kind of the same thing.
01:35See, to me, I think the plaque makes sense.
01:38I think there should be – with the Yankees, and this – you talk about this all the time as
01:43a new Yankees fan.
01:44Yeah.
01:44Newer Yankees fan.
01:46And how, yes, the Yankees are treated differently, but they should be because there's certain things the Yankees get, a
01:51gravitas they get, that no one else gets, other than maybe the Cubs at times and maybe the Red Sox
01:56at times.
01:57That franchise is more special than everybody else.
02:01So, maybe there needs to be a bit of a change.
02:03But when you win the World Series, that kind of always has been the measuring stick.
02:08See, I think if you want to give him a plaque, great.
02:11Give him a plaque, you know, obviously for 11 years.
02:13He was – not every year, but a good portion of those years, he was your ace.
02:18Yeah.
02:18He's the guy that locked things down.
02:19He's the guy that went out there through 200 innings a year, that kind of stuff.
02:22So, let's give him a plaque.
02:23Let's honor his performance for the New York Yankees with a plaque.
02:28But I got to be honest about it.
02:29And, again, congratulations to CeCe Sabathia.
02:32This is not a negative take at all.
02:34Like, I'm happy for CeCe Sabathia.
02:36He's a great lesson for people out there that have problems, overcome their problems.
02:40Oh, yeah.
02:41He was an admitted alcoholic.
02:42He went to AA.
02:43He's got his life on straight.
02:45All good, positive stuff.
02:47Great guy.
02:48Great baseball player.
02:49Great teammate.
02:49And I'm happy to see him get this honor.
02:51That being said, is CeCe Sabathia one of the great Yankee pitchers of all time?
02:58No.
02:59I don't think so.
03:00I looked up the numbers.
03:01He's just not.
03:02He wasn't.
03:02He's not Whitey Ford, right?
03:04No.
03:05Right.
03:06He's not – I mean, to be honest with you, he's not Pettit.
03:09He's not Andy – but now Pettit's got his plaque in there too, right?
03:11Yeah, and Pettit also won more.
03:14Yeah.
03:14I mean, one more.
03:15I don't want to make this, you know, who's CeCe not as good as because that's not fair
03:20to CeCe Sabathia.
03:21Better career.
03:21I just don't think you retire everybody's jersey.
03:23I just don't think you retire everybody's jersey.
03:23I just don't think you retire everybody's jersey.
