Transcript
00:00let's get to the audio from the combine here let's get to this and you this is stuff that
00:04you pulled from yesterday oh yeah yeah uh so this is so the audio is from it's not just audio
00:09from
00:10yesterday it's over from like however long they've been yeah yeah uh you know this is all stuff that's
00:14happened over the last couple days and some of its podium and some of its sit-down interviews
00:18and yeah all kinds of stuff but this was on the pat mcafee show uh this is just simply
00:23robert sala talking about the influences eight kids have on his life how many kids again eight
00:29eight eight lessons geez still going home she gets me when i'm sleeping
00:34not a bad deal oh so he's we got some personality in the afc south so he's so his inhibitions
00:44are down
00:44a little bit like is that what he's saying like is no he's thinking i don't want to get graphic
00:50here
00:50i know when he's a the joke is that she just not as in when he's sleeping she oh she
00:56just tops the
00:57board yeah yeah yeah i got you i got you you know how sometimes when you wake up you're a
01:01little
01:01groggy and your judgment oh yeah yeah that's what i'm talking about yeah yeah i know how it works
01:05seth all right sometimes i know what he yeah yeah yeah i just mean like yes you know you wake
01:10up and
01:10you're like oh yeah all right let's go you know all right yeah at some point i don't know if
01:15you're
01:17is he gonna stop you think they might have gone on longer on it i just uh is he gonna
01:21stop at eight
01:22kids how many kids does rivers have 10 is he done uh who knows man i he's he's got some
01:28young
01:29like some young ones i don't know yeah i mean a like a legitimate follow-up question is have you
01:34gotten fixed are you gonna get a vasectomy it's always interesting me just with with coaches you
01:41know that people talk all the time about how much time they miss with their family and everything
01:45i almost feel like the it's the more kids you have the more you're helping out by just keeping
01:53the kids entertained and everything and they'll have the dad might not be around as much as you'd
01:59like yeah but at least you're around a whole bunch of family all the time dude if i had eight
02:03kids i
02:04would be spending 20 hours a day at the office well that's where this solid is the hardest worker i've
02:12ever seen that is one thing that makes it such a rare situation with demiko it's that not only
02:17is it rare for a uh player to go back and be the head coach of the team he played
02:23for but also that
02:25his wife is from houston yeah so when he comes here it's not a lot of times his coaches their
02:31families
02:31are nomads you know and you're moving around and okay maybe some of the other coaches wives will
02:35make friends with your wife or everything but that that might only last two or three years
02:39where as a head coach that has spent a lot of time at the office it's nice when you actually
02:43have
02:43your the the grandparents and everybody oh yeah that's a that's a thing that a lot of head coaches
02:48don't have demiko's wife and family have plenty of other people that can entertain them other than
02:53demiko ryan's yeah it is you're right that is that's a nice dynamic um all right so there's multiple
02:59variables here i'm excited about this do you remember in the the broncos game i think it was when
03:04vrabel uh was trying to drain clock and he had a couple of defensive linemen come onto the field
03:09real slowly yeah uh because they are because they are allowed that extra time to get onto the field
03:15if the offense makes a sub then they have time to make it so chris sims pointed that out yep
03:20i'm
03:20amazed by your game management okay right and we talk about that a lot i during the afc championship game
03:26and i think one of the most underrated plays of all the playoffs is you with the slow substitution that's
03:33not slow that's that not deemed slow that's it i know it's not that that's in a timely manner
03:39right okay that's okay well they're defensive linemen like how fast you want to run out there
03:44it's no the field snowy they could slip they could injure themselves so they want to make sure that the
03:49footing was accurate that's the first time i've heard him speak full of crap i was the first time
03:54i've ever heard you speak bull crap hey man that's the first time you've ever heard vrabel
03:58yeah where have you been what are you talking about where have you been that's a hilarious
04:03answer by the way vrabel uh yeah no and i think so when vrabel is talking about that i think
04:08about
04:08the texans game management issues and and and some of that comes back to man vrabel has been a head
04:15coach for a long time now and for a few years longer than than damika ryan's that's the i don't
04:22know
04:23if i don't know if vrabel would have had the presence of mind to be doing that uh early in
04:26his career
04:27um and it doesn't sound like the most ingenious thing ever but vrabel's done a lot of really
04:31impressive oh vrabel's been doing it remember the the there was the the game might have even been
04:37against belichick i think where he was just letting the clock he was taking penalties
04:41intentionally because the clock kept starting yeah after the penalties you know to drain clock
04:46that's one of the little areas that hopefully this year i mean remember damiko came in in that
04:52first year we were actually really impressed with how good the game management was in a lot of ways
04:56it wasn't an issue these last couple years that things it felt it's felt like things have frayed
05:01a little bit and there's just way more curious things happening especially end of half the uh
05:05this one have you listened to this next one yet i haven't listened to any of these okay so vrabel
05:09was asked about spending in free agency and he went full carlos correa i want to know if i shop
05:16at
05:16nevin marcus or nordstrom or something i've gotten to the point now in my life where if i want something
05:21i can
05:21usually buy it yeah if i want to shop at nevin marcus or nordstrom the dior store yeah he made
05:28it
05:28play again you're still talking sorry about that you know i mean if i shop at nevin marcus or nordstrom
05:33or something i've gotten to the point now in my life where if i want something i can usually buy
05:37it
05:37yeah i go to the mall and i go to the dior store and i want something i get it
05:42yeah
05:44and that's what carlos was talking about free agency he was and likewise vrabel was talking about
05:52free agency yeah and uh i just i i never would i gotta think that somehow that either consciously
05:59or subconsciously that was inspired by carlos correa that was uh that was full carlos right
06:05there man he went with neiman marcus and what nordstrom's was the other one those are nice stores
06:11too carlos and the dior store when i was in chicago like a month ago i'm walking around
06:15downtown chicago and i walked past the dior store and i just chuckled it's carlos's store right is
06:22that dior is more high-end than neiman marcus i think it is yeah well neiman marcus is more just
06:27like a high-end department store correct yeah whereas dior is specifically dior stuff right right
06:32right um just tell how yeah neither of us see you and i were you and i were praising target
06:37the other
06:38day you and i were like the t-shirts at target are really cool uh one more from vrabel this
06:45is
06:45vrabel on his good friend arthur smith coaching at ohio state where vrabel of course uh is an alum and
06:51also coached for a spell well i thought arthur's a friend so i talked to him you know often i
06:57got a
06:57lot of respect for him as a coach but not only that as a person and a friend um let's
07:02see everyone
07:03so for all the ohio state fans i guess we have somebody to to complain to if they don't score
07:0850 points a game like every other buckeye fan does so oh shots fired shots at buckeye fans yeah no
07:16kidding gotta listen in on columbus radio today and see if they're taking that in good spirits or if
07:20they're if they're feeling put out you know what if it's not a topic i might need to call in
07:25and act
07:26like an ohio state band just did you all hear what vrabel said yeah i should do that today yeah
07:30what does he think he is who does he think he is columbus never won a national championship with
07:36us as a player come in gloms on to urban meyer tries to take credit for those yeah and then
07:42says
07:42we're being too picky because we want 50 points a game yeah yeah wait did they win vrabel didn't win
07:48a championship i don't remember i don't even remember when he was there that would have been 97
07:52yeah he was there that was like john cooper he was like 96 97 he definitely didn't win one because
07:57john cooper took all sorts of heat for not winning national championships yeah uh okay this has been
08:03one of the most unexpected surprises i've listened to todd monken before in interviews and been
08:08impressed by him todd monken new coach of the browns yeah and i always thought i've seen interviews
08:13where i was really impressed with his philosophy and his thought processes and everything but he showed
08:19a lot of personality and uh this is this is todd monken on a gift that he got from one
08:25shador
08:25sanders in fact for my birthday i got this package i thought it was for my wife it's like this
08:31package
08:31and opens it up it's like this porcelain like horse head and it's from shador he sent me a gift
08:37on my birthday and i i asked him i said what was the the meaning he said well i just
08:42really liked it
08:43said i got myself one i said well great
08:48okay what is our takeaway on that i mean my immediate thought was man i feel like people
08:53from our generation here you got a horse head as a gift and it's a warning from the message feels
09:00like a message yeah did he wake up with it in his bed right with ketchup with ketchup poured on
09:05it to
09:05stimulate the blood yeah um i the other part of it again and i was impressed by shador if if
09:12shador
09:13is one of these people that's just a prodigious gift giver and is just always giving people birthday
09:18gifts if it if he does if he doesn't give gifts out a bunch and he's just kissing up to
09:22his coach
09:22then i'm let down by him yeah but i feel like this might be one of those things about shador
09:27that
09:27people don't want to believe or or wouldn't know is that oh yeah he's actually like very thoughtful
09:32and just writes handwritten letters to people right right right right
09:35like the the general reports on shador is that he's a very positive energy person oh yeah yeah
09:41you don't hear you don't hear teammates complaining about anything like that at all at all and so i
09:46that's what i want to know that's a question for shador if if anybody's listening who happens to be
09:52going to a press conference where shador sanders is going to be ask him are you one of those people
09:57that has people's birthdays as part of their contact in your iphone you know i i the only people
10:05i have birthdays for in my iphone are people who actually put their own birthday into their
10:10contact you know that gets because i don't put it in there myself and they shoot me their contact info
10:15if the birthday's in there it shows up but i want to send i might have to send you a
10:19porcelain horse head
10:20for uh for uh for for your birthday i can get a ceramic one at home depot for
10:2838 okay you might have to oh that's wood i i believe oh i can get one on timu for
10:345 30
10:35this is i feel like that's the one that i'm getting ben i'm getting the timu
10:42porcelain i i think that you could give a porcelain timu a tweet a timu porcelain horse head to
10:50somebody and people would think like like who sends a cheap porcelain horse head to anybody
10:55you're just going to assume this must be what is it is this crystal actually i don't know i think
11:00at
11:00the very least we need one for the studio here we need a porcelain horse head for the sports radio
11:05we go ahead with our plastic trophy that we got from our listener yeah yeah put it right next to
11:09it
11:10for the best radio show of 2026 yeah pain and pendergast all right what else you got here
11:14uh okay okay okay let's set this up you guys all remember when we were wondering if kenneth walker
11:21would get franchise tagged or not the and at the seahawks super bowl parade john schneider the gm said
11:29this ken walker being the mvp let's go he tried negotiating with me five minutes ago it was really weird
11:38mvp mvp mvp mvp mvp mvp anyway and uh kenneth walker kind of gave a weird look at the time
11:44yeah
11:45he felt kenneth walker looked very uncomfortable with that and uh since then it's emerged that kenneth
11:49walker will likely be a free agent here's john schneider explaining that comment at the parade
11:55i kind of lost it at the uh i got nervous at the uh talking in front of all those
11:59people the
12:00day and ken's like what are you talking about we weren't a guy but i totally made that up like
12:03i
12:03just lost it he just made it up he just john schneider has definitely screamed the words we're
12:11going shrieking at some point right yes yes go back and watch his podium appearance he is he is like
12:19your next door neighbor like your cool next door neighbor yeah it's just like the kind of guy that's
12:24like yeah go swim in the pool whenever you want yeah just uh i got a bunch of beer in
12:28the cooler
12:28right sure man he's one of those guys like at the super bowl when he made it down to the
12:34sideline at
12:34the end of the game he was in a sport coat he's one of those guys like wow he's got
12:39a sport coat in
12:40his closet i didn't even know he's one of those guys right he's a t-shirt and he flip flops
12:46with his
12:46jeans and everything else just very laid back um this is uh i put this one in here just because
12:53i think
12:53it'll annoy you this is on the pat mcafee show mike mcdaniel talking about his enthusiasm level
13:00i i've i'm invigorated i'm juiced up uh you know i i'm firmly aware that nobody nobody has a better
13:10than us uh and i'm living that way every day yeah so obvious reference to jim and john harbaugh's
13:17who's got it better than us nobody nobody yeah it is an interesting blending of personality
13:22oh dude totally interesting and i and i think um i am less annoyed by mike mcdaniel as an
13:29offensive coordinator because i think he that's a job that he is probably going to be good at and
13:34deserves whereas i think i thought from jump that it was going to be dicey as a head coach because
13:40he
13:41doesn't come across as very presidential i thought that from the beginning and when things got really
13:45bad with the dolphins i thought it it exacerbated it it got worse you know his whatever leadership
13:51chops he has got worse as the dolphins got worse so i feel vindicated with that but i don't mind
13:56mike mcdaniel as an oc that's fine well it's also really all your little plays and do your from jim
14:01harbaugh's perspective because greg roman had been the only offensive coordinator he'd had in the nfl
14:06that's right so much different different different personalities but that doesn't matter all that
14:11much but different philosophies too yep so that that part i guess i maybe i think it's would be
14:16annoying to you because it means something having to do with justin herbert uh oh yeah i hadn't even
14:21thought about that but that yeah yeah the three of those guys harbaugh herbert and mcdaniel together
14:26and the texans play them this year in la in la again they've made the they've been out there a
14:32bunch
14:32yeah they've been to that stadium a bunch in the last couple years yeah um all right this is relevant
14:37to the texans just in that i believe bill cower was talking to vrabel about being a first-time
14:43coordinator that's what the and i didn't see what the actual question was but this is in the context
14:48of this answer and i don't know if i this came up on my timeline yesterday i don't know if
14:53cower is
14:54doing this interview remotely this might have been from the playoffs um but whatever i saw it yesterday
14:59so here is vrabel on being a first-time coordinator and recall that his first time as a coordinator was
15:06with the houston texans i think the first year you think oh man we're gonna have some great scheme and
15:12it's all about scheme it's it's it's not about scheme it's about you know figuring out and making
15:17decisions that are best for the team trying to to gain a personal touch it's about the players you
15:23know holding each other accountable those are things that win not not plays and you know it's all
15:27about the players so they hardly won at all the year he was a court yeah and they had a
15:32bunch of
15:33injuries but were you doing the post game in 2017 yeah yeah okay do you remember when seth on a
15:37mobile
15:38called in uh i did i called i remember i was dry i remember this so well okay because it
15:44was after
15:44mike vrabel's first game as a defensive coordinator and i would have been the jacksonville season opener
15:49yes yeah and i remember driving home and i'm like i'm gonna call the the post game show yep so
15:56is seth on a mobile yep was it you and cecil or it would have been no it would have
16:00been me and ted
16:01you and ted yeah and and my big point was this is i was surprised because this was a classic
16:09first-time coordinator game i he was trying to do all these different looks different fronts
16:16different personnel packages guys running in and out and i've i've been a part of those efforts
16:22before i've seen them before and i was shocked that vrabel succumbs to it yeah because he'd seen
16:29other guys try and mess up and do all of that but he does there's something about the allure of
16:33being
16:33a whiteboard genius and this is one of those yeah i rail against it all the time because it's true
16:38and i was excited to hear vrabel say it yeah because vrabel vrabel knows it yep and vrabel succumbed to
16:45it
16:45there's just this allure where you just you want to be the architect of everything and you just
16:51you want to put every idea that you've ever had right out there on film we saw it with bobby
16:55slowick
16:56in the first game versus the ravens for cj stroud they're doing all this pre-snap motion and everything
17:01meanwhile you got a rookie quarterback you got all these guys of their first year in the system
17:06and uh and it's just i don't know what's to be done about it other than i think it's one
17:10of those
17:10things you just got to go through yeah some guys just they they refuse to believe that oh no it's
17:15all it's all about simplicity and execution and then we build on that for you for you for at the
17:21time for it have to have moved you enough to actually pick up the phone and call the postgame
17:26show yeah and then for you nine years later to hear vrabel say that had to be pretty wild yesterday
17:31i felt redemption i don't blame you i don't blame you for putting this audio into this segment right
17:36here i would have to ask might be damned this is not my ego getting involved or anything maybe a
17:41little bit but i'm i'm genuinely curious just because a lot of coaches do listen to the postgame
17:46show and i wonder if vrabel was listening to the postgame show there and i want i and i would
17:51say if
17:51he did i'm guessing that he would have said yep yep yeah yep it's true like i i feel like
17:58i i did like
17:59because it's something that like obviously he knows it now and vrabel's not as much as he you know
18:05he's kind of a cocky swagger dude yep um i think he's he's pretty humble about beating himself up
18:10too yeah they uh and they got smoked that day 29 to 7 if i recall was the final score
18:15yeah they
18:16replaced their quarterback tom savage at halftime with deshaun watson you recall do you uh do we have
18:22time to hear chris ballard it's a long segment we got time to do whatever the hell we want for
18:26the
18:27next 13 minutes so the report that we saw this week from somebody i want to say it was jordan
18:33schultz okay was that anthony richardson might be requesting a trade out of indianapolis we definitely
18:39saw those reports i don't remember those reports um chris ballard the gm of the colts was asked about
18:44uh recall that anthony richardson had that broken orbital bone and people were agitated because they
18:50felt like he they saw him working out and they thought he should have been playing at the end of
18:53the
18:53season instead of philip rivers it turned out finally anthony richardson got up and said uh i
18:58can't see so good right now right that like i can basically see directly in front of me and nowhere
19:03else so that part of it was put to rest at least but we haven't really had an update on
19:07his health
19:08situation this is uh this is chris ballard on anthony richardson's status right now yeah well he's he's
19:13getting better he just had a i know he met with another specialist he's he's getting better he's been
19:18cleared to play football i'm proud of i'm proud of anthony man i mean
19:25here's a guy that has had to deal with some injury a lot of injury stuff that you know happens
19:33unfortunate accident you know with his eye um he he doesn't win the job daniel wins the job
19:40i think the one thing that i don't know if everybody appreciates about anything i do and i know some
19:44of
19:45his teammates do is like he's a really good teammate positive um wants to do the right thing
19:51so it's trending in the right direction still got a ways to go but you know he's clear to play
19:56um and he's and dia's getting better so we just work from there do you see do you see a
20:02future for
20:02him in indianapolis i see a future yeah um i'm not gonna kind of like with any player you never
20:09know
20:09what's gonna happen um and things change but yeah i mean we like anthony yeah um i think the the
20:17biggest thing about anthony richardson and is is he comes back from it wasn't even technically a
20:21football injury an exercise band broke and snapped into the socket hit him in the eye yeah and yet
20:28that one that one if that were a standalone incident you'd say okay this guy just he had really
20:33really bad luck he's just been so freakishly consistently injured over and over again
20:40where he had to leave a preseason game because he dislocated his finger yep it's just there's
20:43always something with him and his performance is degraded over time uh to the point where i mean his
20:51his completion percentage has actually gone down as he's progressed through he actually completed
20:5659 of his passes in uh in his rookie season which is incredible now because he ended up having
21:0347.7 in his second season nobody tracks this closer than you seth c pain you love that really
21:10fair um he was at 50 this last year but he only had two attempts in on the season one
21:15so i i think if
21:16there was ever a situation where hey change of scenery makes sense that you maybe just gotta just cut
21:23ties with what would the trade market be for anthony richardson right now i don't know like i don't
21:29what would a team trade for him he's been injured every year since high school i can't imagine
21:33a team trading more than a day three pick for him right no it'd have to be some kind of
21:37a swap of
21:38some like anthony richard and it might be a player for player thing could be with like a backup long
21:42snapper for anthony richards i'm i'm exaggerating yeah yeah but i just the even if he had been if he
21:49had had more promising performances and not just some highlight reel throws here and there yeah
21:55you'd still be really really concerned about the the fact that he's just he's made of glass
22:00he's a porcelain horse head he is a port he is a shador sanders purchased porcelain team who horse
22:05head um i the the best thing for anthony richardson might be just to stay in indianapolis
22:11and see how this daniel jones injury situation plays out yeah you know daniel jones ruptured his
22:19achilles tendon you know so i'm guessing he's not going to be back for stuff in the spring like anthony
22:24richardson might be able to get you know not a leg up in the competition because if they bring daniel
22:28jones
22:29back he's going to get signed to a starter's wage you know daniel jones isn't going to be the backup
22:34for 35 or 40 million my my guess is if they bring him back it's on a two or three
22:39year deal for like
22:3930 to 40 million a year like a sam darnold kind of deal so anthony richardson probably doesn't
22:44display somebody who's getting paid like that but if daniel jones's health isn't good maybe anthony
22:48richardson is able to get in there and impress and that's a dicey situation right there you got to
22:53have a you got to have a third quarterback that you trust on the roster there dicey for the colts
22:57yeah yeah because you just don't you you just you cannot go into any season riley leonard
23:04what's that riley leonard right no that might be it they may be they look pretty damn good versus
23:09the texans yeah whatever um let's do uh this is let's do uh todd monken again on shader sanders
23:17playmaking ability okay i think what you see is elite playmaking ability that's in him you've seen it
23:24we've seen it you saw it in college you saw it on tape last year sure there's there's a ways
23:29to go
23:30but what rookie isn't i mean what first year player doesn't have a long way to go um so i'm
23:36excited to
23:36get started with him and all of our quarterbacks and all of our players um so i listened to this
23:42and i'm trying to i i spent too much time trying to get into the heads of browns fans and
23:46thinking
23:47okay how are browns fans probably taking all of this right now and it will this placate them the way
23:52that todd monken's been talking about shooter sanders and then i remembered if i were a browns
23:56fan nothing would placate me ever no um it feels like todd monken really is at least trying to make
24:03it look like he genuinely is looking at this as an open competition at quarterback now i know people
24:09that love shader are going to feel like well he's not if he's not committing to shader then he hates
24:13him people that hate shader are going to say well the fact that he's even talking about having him on
24:18the team make me angry i i really do respect todd monken as a as a coach and i and
24:25i like his
24:26philosophy and everything i think he's probably really consciously trying to go into this with
24:31an open mind and figure it out between now and september i think deshaun watson is going to be
24:36their starting quarterback this year i think there's a yeah i think deshaun watson because people
24:41and i know people are going to say sean he was terrible when he was the starting quarterback
24:46for the browns before he ruptured his achilles tendon not once but twice um i i just think
24:53shader shader's not good either well the same the same excuses that you would make for shader
24:59you can make for deshaun yeah in terms of okay what did he have around him what were the settings
25:05and everything now because deshaun's a veteran quarterback should he have managed it and been
25:08better at it sure um but yeah it's just been such a quagmire that that makes the most logical sense
25:15but we're in the heads of browns fans no no no i no i get it and i'm and trust
25:18me you seth you know
25:19i listen to cleveland radio i know how they feel about deshaun they are dreading they are so much
25:23more excited up there about shader sanders than they are the notion of deshaun watson being their
25:28starting quarterback all i'm saying is that team has a good enough defense yeah to play the whole
25:34thing the texans were trying to do in the playoffs which is just don't screw it up quarterback and we
25:40can
25:40make it deeper they have that good a defense up there and and i think i think even the version
25:45of deshaun that they were getting in cleveland in those 19 games that he started was probably
25:50better statistically and empirically than shader sanders was in his seven starts yeah and i think
25:56there's probably going to be a little bit of deshaun that's out to prove things to people maybe
25:59has a new lease on life a new head coach different voice in his ear that kind of thing i
26:03just think
26:03he's gonna i'm not saying he's gonna be good i'm just saying he's gonna i think deshaun watson's
26:07gonna win that quarterback competition and they're already paying him jillions of dollars
26:11they're gonna try to get something out of it this is how crazy the discourse around shader is
26:16is that i have no idea whether this person is trying to make an actual point or if it's or
26:21if
26:21it's sarcastic because it's perfect sarcasm but in this thread and i looked at it i think this guy
26:28is seriously making this case for shader so shader is playing style one of the things that he's got to
26:33iron out is man he will try to extend a play forever run backwards to extend yeah like right
26:39like it's a lot a lot are in a lot of rookie quarterbacks do that you know case keenum used
26:42to do that oh yeah um and he he ironed it out cj stroud cj stroud would fall into it
26:48at times yeah
26:49um so uh so this guy is making the point that shader wants to be a pocket quarterback and he's
26:56working on it and he knows it because of this i watched him play in person i was in the
27:01i was
27:02impressed with his insistence to throw from the pocket get flushed out slide back into the pocket
27:08and throw sometimes he would return to the pocket two or three times before throwing and i'm like
27:15like no talking about returned no because but that's what it looks like there's somebody who
27:20would say like look at that he's trying to like he's trying to get back to this pocket that had
27:24already broken down or something that is what it looks like sometimes sometimes i'm gonna run out
27:28where's the pocket over there i'm gonna run over to the pocket sorry fella he's just running around
27:32i think he was making a serious point he was returning to the pocket sean oh my god oh my
27:39god
