00:04Today I'm in the Canary Islands house hunting around the seaside resort of Costa Edeca on
00:09the glorious southwest coast of Tenerife. I'm Ben Hillman, an interior designer and
00:14property expert. For the past few years I've been helping house hunters to find their dream
00:19properties whilst giving them a little design inspiration too. Today I'll be using all my
00:24skills to help house hunters Sally and Lee find the perfect place for sun-drenched getaways and
00:29they have very specific priorities in mind. Those railings they would definitely block your
00:35suntan and make you into a zebra wouldn't it I think? They would. So this this this is scuppering
00:40it for you? Yeah. But it doesn't take me long to nail that one. I think it's very very nice.

00:47space definitely more our style as well as an empty stamp. On the way I visit the best holiday let
00:55the
00:55island has to offer. Wow. Whoa look at this. Oh my goodness. Yeah it's amazing. That is really an epic
01:03view.
01:04Yes. But at the end of the day do I find Sally and Lee their perfect place in the sun.

01:10Yeah. Your own pool. That's a dunking pool isn't it? Very nice. Yes. Great stuff. Well look all I'm looking
01:16for is a pat on the back.
01:24Lee has been holidaying on Tenerife ever since he was a small boy and now that he's passed his passion
01:31for the island on to Sally they've been holidaying here every year twice a year as regular as clockwork
01:39but it's only now that they've sold their restaurant and pub business back in the UK that they're finally
01:44able to wind down and buy a holiday home that the whole family can enjoy. Married couple Sally and Lee
01:51have been together for 15 years and married for seven. I love Lee because he makes me laugh. He makes
01:59me
01:59really happy. He's really kind and caring. He looks after me and he loves me nearly as much as I
02:08love him.
02:10I think the main reason I love Sally really she's just a perfect fit for me you know she always
02:15has
02:15been from the minute I've known her really and truly and she's just I couldn't get anybody better
02:20if I'm being honest. With space for Lee's two children and two grandchildren to visit high on
02:25the wish list as well as access to a golf course they're focusing their search around Costa a decade
02:29and following the sale of their business have a generous budget of 300 to 450 thousand pounds.
02:36Situated in the Canary Islands flights from the UK to Tenerife take around four and a half hours.
02:42Costa a decade is famous for its family friendly beaches with golden sands and clear waters where
02:48you can enjoy a wide range of water sports. It's situated close to the Teide National Park which is
02:54a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has a dramatic volcanic landscape. This upmarket resort is one of the
03:00most desirable places to live on the island. The property market in Tenerife is extremely hot right
03:07now in fact prices have risen by 25% over the past year and actually the area of Costa a
03:15decade that
03:15I'm in right now is the most expensive spot in all of the Canary Islands with four bedroom detached
03:23properties selling for 2.2 million pounds and while there are more affordable areas out there I do get
03:31the feeling I'm facing a bit of a challenge. Before we start our search I want to find out exactly
03:38what my
03:38house hunters are looking for so we're meeting for a chat on Palai del Duque one of the best beaches
03:43on the island.
03:45All right then guys welcome to wow sunny Tenerife. Wow. Thank you. You look very happy to be here. I
03:51am very happy to be here.
03:53Are you sort of heading down to the beaches just putting your feet up and doing nothing or what what
03:57do you tend to do?
03:58We tend to do be really boring to be fair we like we get up we don't really eat breakfast
04:03or anything like that so when we get out to the pool
04:05we always go to the gym I might not look it but we always go to the gym and that
04:10and do an hour in the gym a day and sunbathe most of the time and then we walk an
04:13awful lot.
04:14We're probably a little bit more active when we're here because the weather allows you to go out in the
04:19evening for a two hour walk.
04:21Let's drill into what it is that would fulfill that dream what does it look like the property out here
04:26for you guys?
04:27It looks open plan modern preferably three bedrooms okay the children will come out here and our grandchildren will come
04:35out here as well
04:35so we need to have the room for them and some outside space is important to us.
04:42You know we're here for the outside living that's that's why you want to do it and definitely a pool
04:46of some description.
04:47Are you on to pool?
04:48Yeah communal it doesn't have to be a private one we're not too fussy as long as there's one.
04:52Sally's a dipper she's in and out.

04:58Exactly right.
04:58I don't crumble quite as much but yeah.
05:02What would you say is the single most important factor for the search?
05:06The area it's in is also important.
05:09Yeah your ideal location that is Costa Decay.
05:12Yeah kind of from here onwards really.
05:14Okay and how far out would you be willing to push?
05:18Probably about three miles that way.
05:20Okay.
05:21Are there any no-no's for this search?
05:24If the property needs a lot of work doing.
05:26Right.
05:26We're not against cosmetic work but we're not the most what's the what would be the word?
05:32DIY people.
05:33You're in a fantastic position to make this happen.
05:35You've got a budget of 300 to 450 thousand pounds.

05:39Which is immense.
05:40It's fantastic.
05:41I have lined up five fantastic properties for you.

05:51Before heading to our first property we're popping into a Decay.
05:54A traditional town a few miles inland from the more tourist focused Costa Decay to see a different side of

06:02I've got to say that view for people that don't know the island really sells it.

06:08How well do you know it though?
06:09Because I know you love the beach but do you come up here?
06:12Yeah.
06:13We do come up here actually.
06:14Our favourite restaurant is actually in here.
06:15It's the garlic chicken place.
06:17It's very famous and only the locals knew and then obviously other people got to know it.
06:21So we come up here quite a bit actually.
06:23Ah.

06:49You see a different side to Tenerife like you say.
06:52Some of it's quite commercial down nearer the beaches.
06:55And definitely the people here are the true local people that you see.

07:15This exclusive area has mainly luxury apartments, townhouses and villas.
07:19And I'm confident my house hunters will love the property I've got lined up for them.

09:24Just because we've given up the pub really and truly and the restaurant.

09:33We wouldn't have been able to spend as much time out here when we had the pub as we would

09:41To get a benefit out of purchasing a property abroad.

09:49And sometimes we, I mean we'd always have a break in November but then sometimes we might have to wait.
09:54As soon as you get back you'd be straight into the Christmas period and we used to be so busy
09:57throughout the Christmas.

10:15Yeah, it's a nice balcony, it's a good size but those railings they would definitely block your suntan and make

10:26I know you've got the pool down there but to come out with your morning coffee and sit in the
10:30sun, I know it gets the sun but not all over.
10:35It wouldn't be like a sun lounger kind of.

11:11My next place isn't too far away but as I know these two love the beach, we're heading back to
11:16Playa del Duque where we first met.
11:18To have a better look around as it really is one of the best stretches on the island.
11:24So look, we are back down at the seaside.
11:27Obviously not too far from that apartment.
11:29This is Playa del Duque.
11:31Do you hit this beach much when you're here?
11:33No, we usually go to the one on the far side actually.
11:35Oh really?
11:36Yeah, the other side.
11:37How come?
11:38We've always stayed somewhere near here and we always go to the left for some reason.
11:42I have no idea why.
11:43No rhyme or reason to it.

11:45You've got such an amazing walkway here.
11:48It extends some 20 kilometres down the coast.
11:50Are you up for a walk of that magnitude?
11:52I love the walkway and we walk a lot so for us the walking, to be able to walk from
11:58one place to another is massive.
11:59From here you can walk right the way through to the Las Christianas down the other side there.

12:14Coming up have I worked my magic for Sally and Lee and given them the space that they need at
12:20my next property.
12:21A three bedroom duplex with three outdoor spaces.
12:32Today I'm on the Canary Islands helping Sally and Lee to find their dream holiday home on Tenerife,
12:39close to the spectacular beaches of Costa Deci.
12:43But I came a cropper with this terracotta apartment in El Madronel.
12:47It wasn't big enough.
12:48The balcony just well wasn't what they had in mind and the pool was too small.
12:53They're looking for the perfect pad for family holidays and have a maximum budget of £450,000.
13:01In search of the beach and coastal walk in which these two love, we've come to Playa Fanyabe.
13:07Despite being right on the coast, properties here are a bit cheaper than my last location so I can show
13:13my house hunters somewhere with all the space they're looking for.
13:15I think I might have nailed it.
13:19Right then, a mere stroll from the beach that I know you love.
13:24We are at our next property starting at the pool, bigger pool this time.
13:28Yeah.
13:29It's a decent pool, definitely.
13:31So, are you finding comfort in the location?
13:33Yes, yes, this is much nicer for us.
13:36This particular property is just beyond those trees.
13:39Okay.
13:40So it's got a lovely green aspect.

13:42It's a duplex.
13:44Okay.
13:45I'm going to call it two and a half bedrooms because on the very top floor you've just got an
13:49open space which you can sort of be quite flexible with.

13:53Okay, two bathrooms as well, two terraces.

13:57This particular property is just over £339,000.

14:01So, shall we go and have a closer look?

14:06As well as access to that pool, this duplex has two fairly spacious terraces for al fresco dining and sunbathing,
14:14both with a nice view plus a smaller balcony off of the bedroom.
14:18Inside is a living dining room and once again a separate kitchen.
14:23Two of the bedrooms are doubles while the third, as I suggested, is a little smaller.
14:28Finally, there are two shower rooms.

14:34Instantly, you will notice much longer, much more space when it comes to living and dining.
14:41So it's a proper house, really.

14:46Yeah, definitely better than the previous one.

14:57Basically, this is west facing at the back, so it's more afternoon, evening sun.

19:06How easy is it to find or buy properties in this area?
19:10Erm, it's not difficult.
19:12I think the prices have gone up quite a lot since Brexit as well.
19:16They've actually gone up quite a lot recently.
19:18But they're still, I think some of them are still very reasonable for what they are.
19:23But depending on whether you want to be on the coast or in the mountain.
19:25Is there a key spot where you think five years from now that is going to be the place everyone
19:31wants to be in?
19:32It's a little bit of a secret at the moment.
19:33I would say Costa Adeque is probably the place that everybody wants to go.
19:38Funny enough, that's where we want to be.
19:40Yeah, well even my own family when they come out, they're all down there.

20:07A stunning duplex in an amazing complex with not one, but three communal pools.
20:20Today I'm on the beautiful Canary Island of Tenerife with Sally and Lee who are in search of the perfect
20:25holiday home in Costa Adeque to share with the whole family.
20:29And that search is still on because we are yet to find our first contender.
20:34They didn't like this terracotta apartment in El Madranel and this duplex in Playa Faniabe failed to impress them.
20:41They've sold their business in the UK and are searching for their dream holiday home with a maximum budget of
20:46£450,000.
20:51We're now in Playa ParaÃso, a purpose-built resort with three small beaches set into rocky bays.
20:58Having shown Sally and Lee a couple of properties at the lower end of their budget, I'm now going to
21:02try somewhere towards the top.
21:04I really hope it pays off.

21:09And it is here, in this development, which I think is rather attractive.

32:43holiday lets on the island.
32:44It has a stunning pool with views down to the coast and a host of outside social spaces perfect for
