00:02This video is Datacenters 3, or Datacenters Update.
00:10As new information comes in, we have to understand we might have to pivot.
00:20I have to backpedal a little.
00:25I have to update a little bit.
00:27I have to pivot from Datacenters 2 video.
00:33I was talking about traditional cooling of computer system rooms, server rooms, whatnot.
00:46Generally, they are Freon-like-based air-cooled systems.
00:58However, I am learning now, and I haven't seen all the details.
01:03I would like someone to lay out the details for me.
01:09The more modern concept for cooling datacenter server farms is somehow a water-based system.
01:21Now, as a former IT guy, electronics and water don't mix.
01:29So, first thought, really stupid idea.
01:36Now, of course, well, water will be in pipes, and pipes burst.
01:42So, really stupid idea.
01:47Putting that aside.
01:49Now, is it more efficient?
01:51Some might argue it is.
01:53Is it cheaper?
01:54Most likely, why they want to do that instead.
01:59But, again, really stupid idea.
02:04Getting water anywhere near your electronic equipment.
02:13Even, you know, what, are you going to run the water through your walls or run the water through your
02:19floor?
02:20Even if it's in pipes, again, pipes can burst.
02:24You get water anywhere near them electronics, and you got major problems.
02:30But, again, I am speaking.
02:33We are all ignorant of that which we've yet to learn about.
02:39And I am ignorant of this water-based cooling concept as of now as I am recording this.
02:49Honest and open with you about that.
02:52The other thing is, why is it an open-loop water cooling system that it's going to use all this
03:02water as opposed to a closed-loop system where, yeah, it will initially take water, but then it just reuses
03:14the same water.
03:15So it isn't going to run up and use up all the water where a data center goes, which is
03:22what data center 2 video was about.
03:27This concept of it's going to use up all the electricity and run up electricity, right?
03:34I'll address that again in a second.
03:36But, oh, it uses a ton of water.
03:39I'm concerned about that.
03:41I would be concerned.
03:44Why not use an antifreeze system?
03:49Now, well, computers do a lot of heat.
03:54There's no threat of them freezing.
03:57Antifreeze coolant, like in your car, a closed-loop system.
04:03Antifreeze to make sure it doesn't freeze.
04:06Now, with data centers, except for like in cold, frigid states like Michigan, I'm in, the general threat of it
04:17freezing is slim, but it has to be accounted for to make sure it will circulate when needed.
04:24But the coolant aspect of it is what we're talking about here and needed here, right?
04:32Your antifreeze slash coolant in your car is meant to keep your car from overheating.
04:40Data centers, a lot of heat.
04:46As a former IT guy, I've been in a computer room when the AC went out and the room 98
04:57degrees, and somehow the computer's still running, but might seize up and stop at any minute.
05:11And I was running fans to try to, the doors and windows open, which you normally don't do in a
05:18computer room, to try to funnel the heat out.
05:24At any rate, back to cooling.
05:28When they do work, use a closed-loop coolant, like an antifreeze in your car system, you're not using up
05:38water.
05:38Well, that liquid might be expensive, and it's still a liquid.
05:44It's a really bad idea.
05:49The general concept is not a good concept.
05:53Getting any of that stuff anywhere near your electronics, just not a good idea.
06:01So the solution here is obvious.
06:06Even though conservatives don't like government meddling and regulations, sometimes to provide a compromise so that, because I hate to
06:21break it to you.
06:22It's like 5G rollout and people constantly protesting.
06:28How well did that work for you?
06:30Did you stop the 5G rollout?
06:33No, you didn't.
06:34You're not going to stop most.
06:37You might stop some data centers from going into local municipalities near you, but you're not going to stop all
06:47the data centers from being built.
06:49So realistically, and this show is about dealing in things realistically, you're not going to stop them.
06:59So how is it best to mitigate your concerns?
07:05My concerns, too.
07:07I don't want them using a bunch of water.
07:10I don't want them soaking up a ton of electricity.
07:16Solutions then become the question.
07:19Well, regulation, which we don't like, but as a compromise requiring them, if they are to be built in the
07:31state of Michigan or whatever state or the county you reside in or the city you reside in,
07:39in order for them to be there, the local ordinance, the state regulation or federal regulation, require them to be
07:51Freon-like gas-based coolant air-cooled systems,
08:00traditional computer room air-cooled systems, require that, problem solved on the water issue.
08:12Move on, because you're not going to stop all the data centers.
08:18So what is the compromise?
08:21What can mitigate our concerns?
08:25What can we reach a reasonable solution so that it's a win-win-win all around?
08:38These data centers are coming.
08:41I want them air-cooled.
08:44It may not, again, I don't know, I've not seen, if you're an engineer out there with these water-cooled
08:53systems, present it to me.
08:58It's more efficient, it's more cost-effective.
09:02It's not safe.
09:03Again, getting liquids anywhere near your electronics, as safe as you want to come.
09:11Oh, it'll all be in pipes, pipes burst.
09:18Anyway, so, problem solved.
09:23Problem solved.
09:24So, rather than being out there with your sign and whining and trying to block progress and the few jobs
09:36that will be created.
09:37Yes, that's the other.
09:38Oh, I promise all these jobs.
09:41No, no, no.
09:42For a server farm, a computer room, you need a few operators, you need a few security guards securing, you
09:51need janitors to make sure the building stays clean, but it doesn't create a bunch of jobs.
10:01Sorry, not happening.
10:03That is a lie.
10:05Okay, so, yes, dismissing the promise of the luncheon, will it generate tax revenue for your municipality and your state?
10:15Yes.
10:17Especially if you're a high property tax state.
10:21It's going to generate all kinds of tax for your government.
10:27But that's certainly not a reason to support it.
10:31Oh, unless if, again, the data center is going to create X in taxes, so guess what?
10:41We're going to cut the equivalent X in taxes of your personal taxes.
10:48Oh, then it's a win-win.
10:51But, of course, that's not what they're talking about.
10:55More money.
10:57More, more, more for the politicians.
11:00To play with and spend.
11:03No relief for you.
11:06If there was a bit of an offset and some relief for us as citizens, then, okay, a partial win
11:15-win for everybody.
11:17We could talk about that.
11:19We could potentially deal with that.
11:22So I address the cooling thing.
11:24And the other thing is politicians, I wanted to say.
11:31Because this is part of the problem that brought me into this issue with data centers, too.
11:38People, oh, it's going to use up a bunch of water.
11:42How, why, you need to explain it to people like I just did.
11:48But the problem is politicians deal in soundbites.
11:53And far be it for me to defend politicians.
11:59But I'm going to, and it's not necessarily always their fault.
12:04Unless if they're invited on a show like mine or whatever to have a 30-minute segment to deal more
12:15in-depth than a topic.
12:17All they have is soundbites to deliver.
12:21So they're out using the scare tactic about it's going to use up all the water.
12:29And have no time to explain it because of our TikTok X Twitter attention span, as I coined it years
12:38ago.
12:38All you have is, on the news, a two-minute segment to get your soundbite point across.
12:49No chance to explain it to people.
12:53They want to move from air-cooled to water-cooled.
12:58How is that supposed to work?
13:01How is it?
13:02Is it indeed maybe cheaper for the data center?
13:06But it's not.
13:07Where are all you leftist environmentards, right?
13:12Oh, my God.
13:14Too much water being used, but you're silent on this all of a sudden, of course.
13:22So we can solve that problem.
13:26And the electricity issue, as in the original data center episode I did, we can mitigate some of that, too.
13:36Again, I don't like regulation, but it's a workable compromise.
13:44It makes it workable and achievable in this situation.
13:50Data centers are big buildings.
13:53They've got lots of roof space.
13:57Require them to generate at least some of their own electricity through solar panels and wind barrel turbine electrical generation
14:10systems on their roofs.
14:12So at least while the sun is shining and the wind is blowing, which is the problem with green energy.
14:23But again, all you green scammers out there wanting to pedal windmills and solar panels as a solution to energy.
14:34No, the wind doesn't always blow and the sun doesn't always shine.
14:38But this at least as a regulation requiring them to do that would mitigate some of the concerns about the
14:51electrical consumption and the drain on the grid, which is already in shambles and a problem.
15:02And available energy production not necessarily able to ramp up to meet the needs in this situation.
15:20Solar panels and wind drum barrels are more efficient than the windmills and they don't kill birds.
15:32Solar panels and windmills and they don't kill birds.
15:37So let's work to solutions because you're not going to stop all the data centers.
15:47I hate to break it to you.
15:49They're coming.
15:51Rather than moaning and whining and you're going to lose,
15:57what can you realistically work towards to mitigate your concerns rather than just be a constant whiner, endlessly whining, just
16:14opposing, providing no solutions.
16:17And I say that to the politicians also that are out there.
16:21I oppose all data centers.
16:24What are your solutions?
16:27What are your alternatives?
16:30Don't just be against something.
16:33What is your policy prescription to help deal with and at least partially solve a problem or an issue?
16:45Enough whining and complaining.
16:49What are your potential solutions?
16:52I have laid some out here.
16:55I still don't want necessarily a data center put several blocks over from me in my city.
17:04There's open space.
17:06One could go there.
17:08I don't necessarily want one there.
17:11But if one tries to move in, my likelihood of stopping it is zero.
17:19So, next to do, right?
17:22Because there are far too many politicians getting their palms greased.
17:27Let's be realistic.
17:29So, while there are politicians trying to stop it, there are all kinds of politicians getting their palms greased or
17:37just want the extra tax revenue coming in.
17:41They don't care about the electrical drain or the water waste potential, which I have provided at least potential alternatives
17:55and partial solutions to.
17:58They don't care about any of that as long as their palm is being greased.
18:04I know it.
18:05You know it.
18:06We all know it.
18:07So, you're not stopping them everywhere.
18:13You may win on occasion here or there and keep it out of community X and it moves to community
18:21Z instead.
18:25You're not stopping them.
18:27Just like the 5G rollout.
18:29You didn't stop it.
18:31You're not stopping this.
18:34Reality.
18:35Can you deal in reality?
18:40All right.
18:41I'm going to stop rambling now.
18:42I hope I covered everything I wanted to here.
18:46But I, as full disclosure, didn't have all the information that I talked about when I made Data Center 2.
18:57So, this update was required.
19:00As new information comes in, as I learn, I adjust and adapt.
19:09Problem is, a whole lot of people will not attempt to adjust or adapt.
19:15They just whine and moan.
19:21I'm done.
19:22Thank you all.
19:24Take care.
19:25God bless.
19:25Love you all.
