00:00The federal court rejected Rosma Mansour's bid to recuse two judges from hearing her
00:041.25 billion ringgit solar hybrid project corruption appeal, but adjourned proceedings
00:10after she was granted medical leave.
00:12Rosma, wife of former Prime Minister Najib Razak, had sought to disqualify trial judge
00:17Zaini Mazlan and set aside her conviction and sentence imposed three years ago.
00:23Justice Nordin Hassan, leading a three-member bench with Justice Ruzima Ghazali and Justice
00:27Azima Omar, said there was no real risk of bias and that the court had a responsibility
00:32to dispose of appeals cases.
00:35Lead defense counsel, Jagjit Singh, said Rosma was uncomfortable with Nordin and Ruzima as
00:40they had earlier dismissed her appeal to disqualify former ad hoc prosecutor, Delain Gopal Sriram.
00:46Jagjit later requested an adjournment as Rosma had been granted sick leave after suffering
00:51injuries to her knees and right shoulder.
00:53Deputy Public Prosecutor Kay Mangay did not object, though Nordin fixed the hearing for
00:58February 3rd, despite the defense's request for another date.
01:01Previously, the Court of Appeal upheld Zaini's refusal to recuse himself after Rosma claimed
01:06she lost confidence in him following the publication of a purported draft judgment by Raja Petra Kamaruddin.
01:13Zaini had convicted Rosma of soliciting 187.5 million ringgit and receiving 6.5 million ringgit
01:20from Saidi Abang Samsuddin through Rizal Mansoor over the solar project, sentencing her to
01:26concurrent 10-year jail terms and a 970 million ringgit fine with an additional 10 years imprisonment
01:31if the fine is unpaid.
