00:00So everything that you see right behind us here on the two courts is going to
00:04receive a major upgrade. What I mean by that is you know these courts have been
00:09down here for decades. We're going to provide FIBA certified courts. There'll
00:14be two courts that will be provided here. They have a standard range of six
00:20courts that will be provided. We're going to be starting on that as quickly as we
00:24can. So in terms of timelines for this part of it, I'd say by the end of this
00:29year you're going to start to see some results from that already. We then move
00:34on to the other side of this building. We're going to provide a third basketball
00:39court. Here again marked out for six courts. The standard we're also going to have a
00:44fixed larger gymnastics then has been available to Dubbo ever before. Part of the
00:50arrangement here and part of the commitment that we made to supporting
00:53this project was that it could be delivered quickly and that it would be
00:57delivered for the community to be able to use as soon as possible. We need to
01:01get this started straight away. I know the PCYC will be getting work underway
01:05immediately. There are processes to work through where DAs are required but the
01:11reason we've committed to the refurbishment and the plans that were submitted by PCYC
01:15at my invitation is because they can be delivered quickly and they will service the
01:20community. Competition grade basketball for example, which I know is incredibly
01:25popular, will be able to be played right here.
01:29Why has it taken you so long to come out to Dubbo?
01:31Oh I've been to Dubbo many times since I've been the Minister. In the last, it's a very big
01:37state though, I've got a lot of things that I have to deal with. Drought in the south of the
01:40state, forestry changes on the Mid North Coast, dealing with floods and natural disasters in other parts of the state.
01:48Just this week I've been in Orange, Bega, Marimbula, Queanbeyan, Dubbo. Tomorrow I'm off to the Central Coast.
01:55Have sporting clubs been consulted with this? Because they are one of the biggest, I suppose,
02:02outspoken groups locally. Have they been consulted with this? Is this the project that they want?
02:08Well we're working, this is a partnership with the PCYC. This is a building that is owned by the PCYC.
02:13They purchased this building last year. I invited PCYC to make submissions to government so that we could work together
02:20on funding programs that work to support young people, particularly vulnerable young people across the state.
02:26But there are many sports clubs who have missed out after the changes from what this is different to the
02:31original
02:32sports proposal. Will you be sitting down to talk to any of Dubbo's sports clubs over the next coming days?
02:37It's a real shame that the previous project didn't come to fruition.
02:41People across the community were promised a lot and delivered nothing.
02:44It's a genuine shame that that was the case for seven years under the previous government.
02:49That goes back two governments ago, three governments ago under the Coalition.
02:54my job as a minister in the Minns Labour Government is to deliver for regional New South Wales.
03:00I'm really proud of you.
