00:01Is this really a pic in the middle of nowhere?
00:04I'm sending the guys on their first trip to Arizona.
00:06Hey, you Wally?
00:07Yeah.
00:08I'm not disputing that you worked hard
00:10to earn the money to buy the bike, but...
00:12I settled a lot of dog .
00:15Why don't you just hush and listen to me now?
00:17Guys like Fargo are disappearing from America,
00:19and these chaps were an opportunity for me
00:21to bring home a piece of that world.
00:23Now it's time to see about the Airstream.
00:25Wow. This is cool in here.
00:27I've been dying to get my hands
00:29on one of these suckers for over two years.
00:31He's staring me down saying it's 12,000 bucks.
00:34The negotiation is intense.
00:36I mean, Mike is sweating bullets.
00:38I'm Mike Wolfe.
00:39And I'm Frank Frez.
00:41And we're Pickers.
00:43We travel the back roads of America
00:45looking for rusty gold.
00:47We're looking for amazing things
00:49buried in people's garages and barns.
00:52What most people see as junk,
00:54we see as dollar signs.
00:57We'll buy anything we think we can make a buck on.
01:02Each item we pick has a history all its own.
01:06And the people we meet,
01:07well, they're a breed all their own.
01:11We make a living telling the history of America
01:15one piece at a time.
01:17I got your mouthwash and I got you those little chewable vitamins
01:25that you like, the gummy ones.
01:26What do I want?
01:27The bears, not the worms, right?
01:28I like the bears, right?
01:29I'm sending the guys on their first trip to Arizona
01:31and I'm very excited.
01:32You got your glasses?
01:33I've got my glasses.
01:35Are you sure you have your glasses?
01:36Thanks, Mom. I have my glasses.
01:37Because when they hang out around the shop too much,
01:39they pretty much just find stuff to complain about.
01:41Have fun.
01:43I'll send you leads.
01:44See you, girl.
01:45Wah, wah, wah.
01:46Bye.
01:49Thank God.
01:53I'm one of those guys that when I'm off the road,
01:55I'm thinking about being on the road.
01:57We've driven a long ways to get here.
02:00It's time to pick.
02:02I did take the liberty, dude,
02:04of checking into, you know,
02:05you and I's spirit animals.
02:07A spirit animal is a guide that helps you through life.
02:09In a decimate area like this,
02:10I can't think of any better time to tap into that.
02:12And I figured if we can, like,
02:13somehow connect with our spirit animal,
02:15then we will be able to be stronger and stronger.
02:18I can't think of any better time to tap into that.
02:20And I figured if we can, like,
02:21somehow connect with our spirit animal,
02:23then we will be able to be stronger and stronger.
02:26Be stronger out here.
02:27What am I, like, scorpion?
02:28No, I'm a Mexican gray wolf.
02:30Yeah?
02:31And you're a buzzard.
02:32Ah!
02:33Shut up, I'm not a buzzard.
02:34Buzzard's picked like the-
02:35Buzzard scavenger.
02:36The buzzard picks stuff.
02:37He's a scavenger.
02:38He's a super scavenger, though.
02:39You need to be a scavenger out here.
02:40He's the lowest end scavenger.
02:46Danielle's hooked us up with a few leads out here.
02:48We're looking to stake our claim in Arizona
02:50with some rusty gold.
02:52So Danielle said that Wally's husband passed away a few years ago
02:55when she was interested in selling some of his stuff.
02:57All right, this is it, my brother.
02:58All right.
02:59All right.
03:00This looks good.
03:02Oh, yeah.
03:03All of a sudden we can see all these buildings
03:05and you can see all this junk falling out of the buildings.
03:08And I'm thinking, you know what?
03:09Is this real?
03:10Is this a mirage?
03:11Is this really a pick in the middle of nowhere?
03:13Is that her?
03:15Does that lady have a gun?
03:17Check her out, man.
03:18Wow, this is really...
03:19I didn't know what to think.
03:20I thought we were picking Annie Oakley.
03:23Hey, you Wally?
03:24Coming, peace.
03:25How you doing?
03:26Fine.
03:27Hey, is that gun for sale?
03:28No.
03:29Nice to meet you.
03:30I'm Mike.
03:3122.
03:32How you doing?
03:33My name's Frank.
03:34Yeah, I'm Winchester.
03:35It's nice to meet you.
03:36What do you got?
03:37Happy birthday.
03:38You're a birthday girl?
03:39Thursday.
03:40Oh, congratulations.
03:41I'm the big seven-oh.
03:43Yeah?
03:44Danielle said she talked to you and she's like,
03:45I'm the big seven-oh.
03:46I'm the big seven-oh.
03:47I'm the big one.
03:48I'm the big one.
03:49I'm the big one.
03:50I'm the big one.
03:51I'm the big one.
03:52I'm the big one.
03:53I'm the big one.
03:55I'm the big one.
03:56Yeah?
03:57Danielle said she talked to you and she said you might have a few things for sale.
03:59Oh, I got a lot of things for sale.
04:01Do you?
04:02Wally is a real character.
04:03We get there, she's got the happy birthday pin on, and I'm thinking that she's a brunette.
04:07Okay.
04:08I'm gonna take my hand off, but this hair is just...
04:10Oh, man.
04:11I thought that was your hair.
04:12No.
04:13I thought that was your hair.
04:14Alright.
04:15I wish I had that much hair.
04:16Is this something that you shot?
04:17No.
04:18No?
04:19Where do you want to start at?
04:20A little over there.
04:21Alright.
04:22This is the first house we've seen in miles.
04:23Is that why you like it out here?
04:25Yes.
04:26Well, when you're from the Chicago area...
04:27Oh, you're from Chicago?
04:28Yeah.
04:29Chicago?
04:30Wow, you did have some stuff here.
04:31You did.
04:32Yeah, Mike.
04:33Man, that's a lot.
04:34That is a lot.
04:35Well, ever since I grew up, I seen something on the street in the garbage, and I stopped
04:41to pick it up.
04:42Nobody from Point, so I've been doing it ever since.
04:45Alright, Frankie.
04:46Dig on in.
04:47A lot of automotive stuff.
04:48Oh, look at all these horseshoes.
04:50Wally, I like your style, man.
04:51At least she's got, she's got trails.
04:52Don't fall.
04:53Alright, I won't fall.
04:54I gotta get to the top of the pile so I can see what's going on around here.
04:58Oh.
04:59This lady's got everything.
05:00She's got gas pumps.
05:01She's got motorhomes.
05:02She's got metal buildup.
05:03I mean, this place is unbelievable.
05:04We put our son through college collecting newspapers and aluminum cans.
05:15Wow.
05:16Wally is like a real worker bee man.
05:18She was hauling thousands of pounds of newspapers back in the 60s.
05:22She was green before green was cool.
05:25There you go.
05:26Look at that.
05:27That's serious.
05:28There's one item that's catching my eye right now, and that's her childhood bike.
05:31Hey, let me ask you this.
05:32When you went to the bike shop, how come you bought a boy's bike?
05:35I wanted a boy's bike because I acted like a boy.
05:40This is a great bicycle.
05:41It's 1953.
05:42She's the original owner.
05:44Through the dust, through the dirt, the paint on this thing, you can see it's like a nine.
05:48Excellent condition.
05:49The reason I like it is because you took such good care of the paint.
05:53I always used that turtle wax on it.
05:56Did ya?
05:58Wally learned early on that if she wanted something, she went out and got it herself.
06:03I shoveled a lot of dog for this.
06:06She told me she was shoveling dog poop for 40 hours to get the bike.
06:11I mean, that's how much she was really wanting that bike.
06:14How old were you when you were shoveling the poop?
06:16Well...
06:17I mean, I know you're still doing that, but...
06:19I started at 13 years old.
06:22Okay.
06:23And I did it for four years.
06:25So you, even at 13, you weren't like most girls, were like, you know, I don't want to get dirty.
06:29Right.
06:30You know, I don't want to break a nail.
06:31You were like, I want to buy a bike.
06:33I'm gonna buy a bike.
06:34Even though she had an emotional attachment to this bicycle, she was willing to let it go.
06:38Okay, Wally, what are you gonna have to have for your bicycle?
06:41Oh, I'd like to have 200.
06:45Yeah, I couldn't do 200.
06:47Wally was right.
06:48The bicycle was worth $200.
06:49That's all it was worth.
06:50I had to get it lower so I could make some money on it.
06:52I'd do 100 on it.
06:54Oh, come on.
06:55You can do more than that.
06:56How about 150?
06:58I'm not disputing that you worked hard to earn the money to buy the bike, but I'm thinking about the value of it now.
07:07You know, the only thing that I don't see original on it is, you know, obviously you remove the tires.
07:11The seat's in really bad shape, but you got that on there.
07:14And it does have a few dents in the fender.
07:16How about 125?
07:18You guys are almost there.
07:20What's the bottom number?
07:21125.
07:22Come on, you can go 125.
07:24Where's my birthday?
07:25It's not technically your birthday yet.
07:27It's not technically your birthday.
07:28My birthday is Thursday.
07:29Alright, Thursday I'll take it.
07:30125.
07:31Happy birthday.
07:32Alright, I love it.
07:33I'm a softie for anybody that says it's their birthday.
07:36I had to do it.
07:37125.
07:38This is a great bicycle.
07:39Hey, you know what I think's cool?
07:40What?
07:41That you thought enough of it to keep it all these years because it was your first bicycle.
07:45Yeah.
07:46Let's keep on looking.
07:48What's this thing under this plastic here?
07:51Anilator aspirator.
07:52Frank, here's a water bed.
07:54I just sold mine.
07:55No, you want that.
07:56No way.
07:57Hey, Wally, what's the story on this?
07:59Burglar alarm here.
08:00It's got like a little bell inside of it here.
08:02You know, it had electric and controls.
08:03It probably went on the side of a building.
08:13That's cool.
08:14See, that's got some advertising on it.
08:15That's the kind of stuff we like.
08:16Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:17What would you have to have for this?
08:18It'd be a great decorator piece.
08:21People collect that kind of stuff.
08:23It's, uh, $20.
08:26$20?
08:27$20.
08:28I'll do the deal.
08:29All right, let's look around a little bit.
08:30All right.
08:31Wow.
08:32Check her out.
08:33Oh, yeah, that's good.
08:34Wally, how much is this bugle?
08:36How about $15?
08:37Okay.
08:38I don't like that because I think they're going to be doing that in my ear.
08:41How much is this Arizona 1926?
08:44Give me $5 for it.
08:46$5?
08:47Yeah.
08:48I'm going to take it.
08:49I'm surrounded by nothing but rust in the middle of nowhere, and I'm excited.
08:52Hey, how about this little thermometer thing here?
08:54$10.
08:55You read my mind.
08:57Here, what's this?
08:58Look at this stone here.
08:59This is cool.
09:00Oh, that's from my grandma.
09:01That's real old.
09:02Is that something you'd sell?
09:03$10.
09:04All right, I'd buy that.
09:05I like that.
09:06Looks can be deceiving.
09:08Little Wally has absolutely packed these buildings full of stuff.
09:11All right.
09:12That's what you got there.
09:13Oh, yeah.
09:14Weston.
09:15Electric Instrument.
09:16Newark.
09:17As a picker, I'm always looking for things that inspire creativity and spark imagination,
09:21and that came in the form of this really cool old full meter.
09:24It's different.
09:25Yeah.
09:26Like, what do you want for this old meter?
09:27I want to sell them all as a group.
09:29Then I look on the shelves, and I see a bunch of them.
09:31So I'm thinking to myself, you know what?
09:32This would be really cool as a display, all of them together.
09:36How much are they for the group?
09:38$150.
09:39Industrial stuff is really hot right now.
09:41I could sell this stuff to a restaurant or a funky shop.
09:44Anybody that wants that turn-of-the-century industrial aesthetic.
09:46How about $100, Wally?
09:47No, $100.
09:48Hey, I stood tall on the bicycle.
09:49Look at all the meters you're getting.
09:50Seven meters.
09:51Plus the switch.
09:52You're getting eight of them for $150.
09:53Eight for $150?
09:54Yeah.
09:55All right.
09:56You drive a Chicago-style bargain.
09:57Okay.
09:58Wally might live in the state of Arizona, but she honed her negotiating skills on the streets
10:07of Chicago.
10:08I had gotten into fights with people on the street over things when I was garbage picking,
10:13and it just built into me.
10:16I just liked a good argument or a good fight.
10:18What were you using these for?
10:20Those are the good ones.
10:22This is one that we were with the Arizona Rangers.
10:25You went out on patrol?
10:26Yeah.
10:27She talked a little now.
10:28I was a captain.
10:29She was a captain?
10:31I'll be darned.
10:33I can see you being the captain.
10:35Fargo!
10:38He's no movie cowboy.
10:40He's the real deal.
10:41So, Fargo.
10:42What?
10:43Do you mind if me and Frankie look around a little bit?
10:45I told you I had nothing to sell.
10:50Where are we going?
10:51Wally, we going in this trailer here?
10:53Uh, no, not that one.
10:54That's all my woodworking.
10:55Oh, that's all your woodworking stuff?
10:56Yeah.
10:57Oh, he's looking at this gas pump right here.
10:59You know, a lot of bus lots and stuff use these kinds because they were small.
11:04They didn't have to have the big ones.
11:17You remember how you got this?
11:19Auction.
11:20At an auction?
11:21A lot of people like to have gas pumps, but they don't want to dedicate that much weight
11:24and that much space to the great big ones.
11:26This one, everybody has enough room for it.
11:28Something you would sell?
11:29Yeah.
11:30What do you think you got to have?
11:3150?
11:3250?
11:33That was more like about 35.
11:36How about 40?
11:37I think 40 will do it.
11:39Okay.
11:40All right.
11:41Small gas pumps like this sell really easy.
11:43I mean, it was a great price and a great purchase.
11:46Hey, I got something to show you in the gazebo here.
11:49Whoa!
11:50This lady's got some weight to it.
11:51All right, Wally.
11:52Let me get this thing out in the sun where I can see it.
11:54That is cool, man.
11:56Tell me where you got this.
11:58I found it about 1964 in the garbage.
12:03Got this in the garbage?
12:04That's a good pick.
12:05I cannot believe anybody threw this cast iron table out.
12:08It's got amazing seahorse legs, the detail, the scrolling.
12:11I mean, this thing is a work of art.
12:13What do you got to have for it?
12:14A thousand.
12:15A thousand bucks.
12:16Mm-hmm.
12:17Taking into consideration that I paid basically the price that you wanted for everything else.
12:22I'll stand tall on it.
12:23I'd do six on it.
12:24No.
12:25Eight.
12:28You're tough, man.
12:30Oh, my God.
12:31I love iron stuff.
12:32And I love rust.
12:34And I can see what this thing could be.
12:37Just like when you saw it on the curb.
12:39Right.
12:40It's a great piece.
12:41You got a great eye.
12:43About 650.
12:44Mmm.
12:45Work with me a little bit.
12:47750.
12:48I like it.
12:49It's a neat piece, too.
12:50700 bucks.
12:51Okay.
12:52700 bucks?
12:53Oh, yeah.
12:54Oh, my God.
12:55I love this thing.
12:56I'm glad that Wally and I finally sealed the deal.
12:58I'm psyched to be bringing this killer cast iron piece back to Iowa.
13:02Man.
13:03That was rough.
13:04That was.
13:05You know what?
13:06You're a tough negotiator.
13:07I'm tough.
13:08Is Boren being tough?
13:09Yeah.
13:10You know, when you go to school, people tease you.
13:13Why'd they tease you?
13:14Because of the way I talked.
13:16Oh, really?
13:17Mm-hmm.
13:18I think it's sweet.
13:19So what?
13:20You had to stick up for yourself?
13:21Well, I got him in the head a lot.
13:22Yeah?
13:23Like what?
13:24I had him on the ground.
13:25I was beating the shit out of him.
13:28She was a little spitfire.
13:29She kept me and Mike entertaining the whole entire day.
13:33You took good care of that, Wally.
13:34Oh, yeah.
13:35I'm gonna take good care of it, too, I promise.
13:37I bought a 1953 Schwinn bicycle for $125.
13:40I'm gonna ask $250.
13:41There I go.
13:42I got the heavier.
13:43He always gives me the heavier.
13:44That's right.
13:45Work smart, not hard.
13:46I picked the Gas Boy pump for $40.
13:49I know I can get at least $125.
13:52All right.
13:54I bought the cast iron seahorse leg table for $700.
13:59I'm thinking I could get $1,400 for it.
14:02All right, Wally, thank you so much for eating.
14:06You're welcome.
14:07You're doing fun.
14:08Happy birthday.
14:09Thanks, honey.
14:10Happy birthday.
14:11Thank you so much.
14:12It was a great time.
14:13When Mike and Frank were getting ready to leave, I gave them the address and the name of
14:17Fargo, thinking they might go over there and be interested in reading them.
14:23Wally gives us a leave of this real-deal cowboy named Fargo.
14:26I mean, we're in the middle of nowhere.
14:28Of course we're gonna go check it out.
14:30Her neighbor, Fargo, is our next stop.
14:32We got a lot of great stuff today, including our next lead.
14:35I'd say this is it.
14:37Here's the gate, Frankie.
14:38I guess you get out.
14:39Looks like it's locked.
14:40This has got to be it.
14:42You can't even see the house.
14:44They say the road goes on forever, my friend, but I don't think this one does.
14:48Is it locked?
14:49Yeah, it's locked.
14:50Yell for him, dude.
14:51Why don't you go get that bugle thing that you bought?
14:53I see it being .
14:55I'm gonna do that.
14:57I like your style.
14:58All right.
14:59Fargo!
15:00Louder.
15:01Fargo!
15:02That's good.
15:03That's an Arizona yell, dude.
15:04You don't come in a horse?
15:05That's a cowboy.
15:06I would think so, man.
15:07Oh, here he comes.
15:08Why don't I look like a little horse to me?
15:09Wally gives us this lead.
15:10I mean, we don't know what to expect.
15:11We come up to this gate.
15:12You know, it's handmade.
15:13And all of a sudden, here comes a guy down with a golf cart.
15:14Oh, look.
15:15He's got a gun.
15:16More guns.
15:17Counting Wally's, that's two in a row.
15:18We're in the American West.
15:19Everybody's packing heat here.
15:20Hey, you Fargo.
15:21Who are you people?
15:22Well, my name's Frank.
15:23This is Mike.
15:24Hi.
15:25We're from Iowa.
15:26We travel around.
15:27We buy and sell things.
15:28We're pickers.
15:29You ever heard of pickers?
15:30No, I don't think so.
15:31Well, basically, we buy and sell a lot of stuff.
15:33And we collect stuff ourselves, too.
15:34We're not just interested in just selling things.
15:36Hey, look.
15:37What's the name of a young man?
15:38Look, what's the band?
15:39Scott?
15:40Well, I've seen a guy, it's handmade, and it's hand made.
15:41All of a sudden, here comes a guy down with a golf cart.
15:42Oh, look.
15:43He's got a gun.
15:44More guns.
15:45Counting Wall-E's.
15:46That's two in a row.
15:47We're in the American West.
15:48Everybody's packing heat here.
15:49Hey, you Fargo?
15:50Who are you people?
15:51Well, my name's Frank.
15:52This is Mike.
15:53Hi.
15:54We're from Iowa.
15:55We travel around.
15:56of stuff and we collect stuff ourselves too we're not just interested in just selling things hey we
16:00uh we just met wally that was right down the road there she's selling has nothing to do with this
16:03outfit you could tell he was old school man he was like mouth shut ears open boys well you love
16:08with men and look around but i don't know what's for sale all right frankie i'm riding for a row
16:14here next thing i know i'm on the golf cart he's like shut up get in let's roll first time i've been
16:19a golf cart with no grass that buttering up ain't gonna help much
16:32look at this frankie he's got some birds got some chickens
16:37fargo this is incredible man it's all for real boys
16:43this place got started about 25 years ago so you built all this by hand i didn't do it all myself
16:48i did most of it so man it must have took forever you know when we're talking to fargo he starts
16:53telling us that he was a set dresser for the western movies now has this been in a lot of movies oh yeah
16:58he was creating his own world he was creating his own movie set i'm so tired of looking at
17:03chain link and blacktop that i wanted it like the old movie sets that i was accustomed to working on
17:08the thing i love about fargo is even though he's worked on hundreds of western movies he's no movie
17:12cowboy he's the real deal one person i met in my life that really got me more so than anyone was john
17:18way wow we were on a set of old tucson a thing called a clintock for john wayne you know her and
17:27joe will wow that was it that's pretty cool this is almost 60 years ago still brings a little water
17:37guy but that was the greatest thrill i never forgot it never will wow years later we'd drink a little
17:44whiskey together him and chill wheels and we even traded horses really that's pretty cool he tried
17:48to cheat me a couple times you imagine the far getting cheated by the duke i don't think so when
17:56you're having a shot of whiskey with john wayne i cannot think of anything more stone cold cool than
18:00that so fargo what do you mind if me and frankie look around a little bit look around for what well
18:06you know we buy and sell stuff i told you i had nothing to sell okay do you mind if we look at stuff
18:11that's not for sale no you know are you trying to be smart no you know here we are a couple guys
18:17from iowa we're on his property sure was he kind of rough i know you guys are up to something do you
18:22have his finger in my chest a few times why don't you just hush and miss me kind of pokes at you a
18:26little bit kind of kitchen i'm not some dumb cow puncher that was born in a wagon yard you know
18:31all right but you know what when he kids you he gives you the wink of the eye too you can do any but
18:37you count bull we learned right away when you're in fargo's world you better do what he says may i
18:42look around that means yeah go ahead that means okay that means you're more than gracious and i
18:49would love you to look around all right let's look around that's not exactly what it meant but that's
18:54close enough this is the blacksmith shop area harley davison badge i love this harley davison gas tank
19:04badge because it's real american steel hey fargo what how much is the harley tank badge you're gonna
19:11make me get up and come all the way over there no i'll make you an offer from here no i'm coming
19:16over there no he's coming over here we either pissed him off or we got him excited i don't know what you
19:22guys are up to tell about this yeah right there what's the story behind that kind of a collector's
19:28at him you know it's it's a good piece i may sell that all right you're ready yeah i've always ready
19:3330 bucks i'm thinking about it all right
19:40if you buy something else and be polite i might take 34. we had to work on it we had to do the dance
19:47i'm like come on man i've got to break the ice here i'm interested in like any kind of old cowboy boots
19:54your western shirts the buckles the turquoise you got any of that kind of stuff i wouldn't want to
20:00play poker with fargo he's so straight-faced i'm not sure if he's going to show me something or shoot
20:05me you don't you never know until you ask i gotta ask look out he's on it fargo took us straight to
20:14the mother node leather chaps hey those are brave for me look they weren't made for me they're a little
20:19too long for me how old are those probably 67 years old yeah i love these man i always loved
20:34buying americana and it doesn't get more real than buying some original leather cowboy chaps those
20:40shops belong to an old cowboy from out of montana his name is john bailey he and i worked a lot of
20:49movies together and he wore those shops and chaparral and uh john bailey was a good guy he was out of
20:55montana wow you ran yeah hi nice to meet you hi it's not just any airstream it's an early airstream
21:02i didn't want him to see how jacked up i was on this thing i wanted to cruise around and then pounce on him
21:11fargo's not selling much around here so if i'm going to pick and choose my battles it's going
21:14to be over these amazing leather chaps what would you have to have i don't want to sell you're going
21:18to have to bid me fargo tells us he played an auctioneer in the movie tom horn starring steve
21:23mcqueen why don't you auction them to us i can do that i do 30. i'm going to take 35. i'm at 40. i'm at 30.
21:31you get up in the morning you better saddle a little faster horse you're right i'm at 40. who's the
21:35auctioneer you're you are well then let me do it all right you're offering me 40. i'm
21:40offering 40. i want five i got 45. i got 45. five would have been five would have been 50.
21:4745 50. that isn't enough i got to have 100. 50. 150 you're getting close we started off at 140 you
21:54tried to make it i never been to an auction where the guy just kicked it up a hundred but this is our
21:58auction oh this is your auction this is arizona now i'm in at 50. so this is 145.
22:05145. 145. you're out good he's out i'll tell you what i'll make it easy for you i'm gonna pave the
22:12way pave the way here we go sit up straighter all right you're ready hold these yeah i'm glad you're
22:17sitting there 147. i'm gonna take 148. all right we just broke the ice i appreciate you trading with me
22:30yeah i'm honored to own them guys like fargo are disappearing from america and these chaps were
22:35an opportunity for me to bring home a piece of that world i'm gonna hang those on the wall at the
22:39shop and i'm never gonna forget fargo when i look at them you know what i love the chaps i'm glad we
22:44did they're not chaps they're shops chaps chaps are we lad that lives in england all right no but i'm
22:52seriously i'm seriously interested in that harley badge in there i should have thrown those in with now
22:56that we now that we got the ice broke and then 148 on these i'll tell you what i'm gonna do what are
23:00you gonna do you give me another five dollars and the harley badge can go with it so i took him up on
23:06his offer and i threw in an extra five bucks for the harley tank badge we had a good time i enjoyed you
23:11boys here today thank you thanks for letting us look around i bought the leather chaps for 148 bucks
23:16i'm gonna ask 250. i shelled out five bucks for the harley tank badge i think i can get 75 to the right
23:24collector you guys want to ride mount up mount up all right oh you think you're a new jersey no he was
23:36a hard-nosed dude but what we've learned in the past when we're out picking the hard-nosed guys are the
23:41most sensitive guys later pigeons for a guy that didn't want to sell anything and was a little bit
23:47standoffish when we first got here you warmed up and i'm glad you did because i love those chaps
23:52they're shaps
24:00you know how bad the bugs are in arizona yeah they're huge you're completely allergic to bugs
24:04and i can i can be standing with 10 bees they don't bug me they're all on you i know you know
24:08that stuff you put on dogs right here that front line yeah right in the back you put it right between
24:12your shoulder blades yeah why wouldn't that work for you it might that's that's cheap and then if we put it
24:17on you i'm good it works for the whole month i know i'm good for the whole month i try all right
24:22hey danny what's up hey guys i want to give you a lead and it's a sign of good luck all right gotcha
24:28this guy's name is rand like as in rand mcnally they got some maps for sale uh he has a lot of cool
24:34stuff though he has a 1950s gas pump and he has new old stock parts as well he has a white and basically
24:41they've been collecting for a really long time and they just need to make room for new stuff in
24:45their collection all right hey we're gonna go check this out thanks for letting us know that you're
24:49still alive and the danny diesel motor is still burning fuel yep i'm in danny d mode all right
24:53send us the coordinates honey there's a flag there's a flag flag this can't be yeah dude let's just
25:04it's a strip mall dude why would she send us to a bar let's see if this is a place or not all right let's
25:09sit here all right what is this i think i have a pino poppers dude maybe you don't have the right
25:15address when we walked in i saw everything on the walls i was in picking heaven man i was looking
25:24around he's got gas pumps in there i mean this place is rad it's cool definitely got some stuff
25:29i got some cool stuff there it's for sale a lot of a lot of advertising ma'am hello how you doing are you
25:36rand no but i could be rand's wife oh you're rand's wife nice to meet you i'm frank hey frank how
25:44are you pleasure we uh you're looking for rand yeah we're looking for rand i gotta hunt him down
25:49that could take a minute okay all right all right we can see this guy's a heavy duty collector i mean
25:53he likes a lot of stuff that we like hey guys hey how you doing good you ran yeah hi nice to meet
26:00you all right frank hi frank pleasure well danielle called us and gave us this address and then when
26:06we pulled up here we thought she gave us the wrong address seen bar and grill i mean we like to eat
26:10obviously and stuff but i didn't we didn't know where we're at you know we walked in we're like wow man
26:14you pretty much have no more wall space left so are you looking to clean house just a little bit just
26:19so you can buy more we have a vision that this has to become a destination we're kind of out in the
26:24middle of nowhere i see yeah you know the economy's kind of tough so trying to create
26:29some diversity in what we do so we thought we could do like a consign and dine kind of thing the
26:33stuff that's in the restaurant isn't really for sale because that's part of the decor of the business
26:36like they have 2 000 square feet of overflow and you know what we love overflow wow come on in
26:46i need a building this big we walked in there we saw stacks of signs boxes piled up everywhere i mean
26:53there was so much tonnage it was layered all together this is cute i crawl up on the staircase
27:02and i'm looking over the whole pick that's picking 101 get to the high spot and i can see what i think
27:08is an airstream it's not just any airstream it's an early airstream i've been looking for one of these
27:16since i tried to buy that airstream in north carolina on the airstream trailer what's an insane number
27:22that you would take for it oh it would be 75 75 yeah i wanted this thing so bad all right i'll take
27:29it for 7 500. no 75 000. 75 000. catch him frank
27:40i didn't want him to see how jacked up i was on this thing i wanted to cruise around and kind of check
27:45it out on the corner of my eye buy a few things just kind of feel them out on his prices and then
27:49pounce on him i got a question on something for you ran what's that frank what about this uh picture
27:57here what can you tell me about this the southern railroad system picture that's on the kentucky
28:03river right there have a cool picture you know at first glance this looks like an old dusty picture
28:08but you know what i haven't seen one of these for a long time well i know it's an original lithograph
28:12that was put on the tin so i know that it's not real cheap okay probably 300. okay well i wasn't
28:21on 300 but i'd be a player at 200. lithograph is so hard to find it's an early type of art and you just
28:27don't see it around and when you do it's always banged up it's always in bad condition this one was
28:32in great condition great subject matter what do you uh what do you think honey how's that sound to you
28:38how's how's two and a half sound you know 250 is a little bit more than i wanted to pay but you know
28:44i started thinking on the way in i seen a goodyear sign it's time to bundle what do you want for the
28:49goodyear sign when i first walked in the goodyear tires 275 275 275 nice piece so you do 450 for both
28:58pieces 275 475. 450. we're dancing now it's sold i bought this framed lithograph i mean these things
29:13are hard to find i know tons of people would want it what is this that's just a little totem paul wow
29:22where'd you find this at do you know the story of a friend of mine it's like a piece of folk art yeah
29:26for sure when i was a little kid i used to collect puppets so i love this he's got a little ventriloquist
29:31mouth on him by anything bizarre that you haven't seen before the unusual the macabre the different
29:36and that came in the form of this ventriloquist doll sitting on a trunk with a monkey on his head
29:41and a duck on top of the monkey i mean how insane is that
29:56all right i gotta ask how much is this you hear him take a big old sigh how's 400 sound that sounds
30:06like way too much man i mean that's kind of one of a kind gosh well there's three tears to the top i know
30:15and but i'm just wondering like if he's gonna fall apart at any minute by the time you get him home yeah
30:20it's to be a little tough that way you know i'm thinking it lasted this many years someone made
30:25this by hand it was probably for a vaudeville actor a circus actor some sort of a carnival how about 300
30:30bucks his hands wired together he's missing an eyeball sounds like a plan one two three 300 who
30:36i shake hands with all right this thing was designed to make people laugh and it made me laugh and that's
30:43why i bought it that's john wayne's coffee shop right there what that's where you hang out and
30:50drink coffee drink coffee what do you got on that four and a half how about 325
31:01anything frankie i want to see what this side oh a safeway that's a local grocer here
31:07it looks a heavy one too isn't it yeah i've been cut on that one before have you
31:12oh yeah around a couple times a couple times and our business signs are huge sellers especially if
31:16they're transportation related when you go outside of that like this grocery store sign it's all about
31:20condition and subject matter this is in great condition great colors i gotta have it what would
31:26you have to have for something like this three and a half three and a half what's your best i mean
31:32i'm kind of interested just because it's got nice colors it's pretty about two and a quarter boy
31:39i'll tell you what i'll go
31:44i'll go 275 on it with you i'll tell you what you're at 275 about 225 how about 250 on the safeway
31:51that'll work you know guess what you'll never have to cut yourself on it again i know you know food sign
31:56like this it's in fantastic condition this could go to a novice guy that's just starting out
32:01or could go to a hardcore collector of grocery stuff
32:12okay how much for the western union bike rack is that what that thing is yeah but it's missing the
32:18legs see if you would have had legs bolted to the side of it here and went down on each side
32:26uh-huh to make the stand stationary like that nice you could pull your bike in from either side you
32:32know a lot of the guys in western union back then they would actually you know deliver on bicycle
32:36what do you gotta have for that oh what you gotta have for that now that you know what it is now that i know what it is uh how's 200 sound um
32:56how about 150 for it sounds like a deal i think that's a good one all right let's do it the great
33:08thing about this piece is it's bicycle and it's advertising it's an awesome combination cool i love
33:14that look at that frankie all i can think about on this pick is that airstream but i'm going to finish
33:19the pick before i ask we've got a great vibe going and i don't want to ruin it what about your coffee
33:24shop sign what's up with that yeah that's cool from a local little watering hole here in arizona this
33:30thing's hand painted this double side it was neon at one time it's exactly the kind of sign i like
33:35what do you got on that four and a half
33:39what's the other side look like that's the other side look like about the same let's see that's john
33:44wayne's coffee shop right there what lewis johnson john wayne highway 84. they hung out there that's
33:51where he drank coffee right there how do you know because we've been living here for 20 years oh no
33:58kidding yeah and this lewis johnson guy like i mean what was the story with him and john they were partners
34:03in the in the uh cattle business and probably also probably cotton business and uh they worked together
34:10for years wow wow and this was the local coffee shop the only coffee shop that they had you see
34:24john wayne sitting there frank i mean this is my heart just starts racing because that is so cool
34:29not that it was just john you know john wayne might have sat and drank coffee at this place
34:34but he knew the town he knew the building i mean very cool story i had to have it how about three bills
34:40how about uh how about if i meet you halfway
34:48what's that 350. 325 keep working him he's your wife's even saying to work you what did she tell
34:57you the price was how about 325. sold i love it like any kind of advertising you and i and frankie
35:08have the same taste that thing's classic right there hey man i love these what else you guys want
35:17i've been holding off drool and walking by the thing the whole time
35:20how much is the airstream trailer would you even consider selling that yes possibly it's uh it's pretty
35:27pretty uh neat piece what year is it 1948. when he said 1948 my ears popped off my head i mean this
35:33thing was made right after world war ii i don't even think they started production until 47 because
35:38you could not build these travel trailers they wouldn't let anybody build them because of the
35:41materials the aluminum so when you got it all the windows were gone out of it yeah i mean have you
35:47done anything to it no nothing other than find some new old stock parts that it was missing
35:51what kind of stuff we've got a handful of things inside the trailer lenses can we look in there yeah
35:56go right ahead frankie's stepping into the space capsule man this is cool in here you can tell
36:13that no one's been in there for years i mean you can tell that this thing has not been touched and
36:17that's what people want this is a perfect restoration project for somebody or if you
36:22wanted to clean it up put some windows in it it could be used you got the title to it yeah really
36:28should make a phone call because it is a good friend of ours really yep when gina said that this
36:33trailer belonged to a friend of theirs my heart sank a bit that meant that these guys are not the
36:38decision makers we can go step away and make a quick call i'm interested i want to hear what the
36:43guy has to say give him a call and we'll look around here we can do that the last time i tried to buy
36:47one of these the guy wanted 75k for this thing what'd you guys find out well we did uh we did talk
36:55to steve and he's been uh you know he's been at 12 000 on the trailer so your buddy's at 12k that's
37:01what he was trying to sell a trailer for or has he let me ask you this has he tried to sell the trailer
37:05before he he does have a list of uh people that are really interested in the trailer everything that
37:10i've bought from ran today he's been working with me on but this is a piece of uncharted territory
37:16he does not own this trailer and he's staring me down saying it's 12 000 bucks in order for us to
37:22feel comfortable on it i'd be an eight so i don't know if he gave you any wiggle room or if you guys
37:28need to call him back we probably need to call him yeah we probably need to give him a holler
37:32i mean mike is sweating bullets now ran's calling his friend we're so close but it's out of our hands
37:37okay all right will do thanks what'd he say
37:48i'm praying that ran comes back with the deal i want this thing bad but i'm trying to stay calm
37:53after talking to my buddy and him realizing how many years he's he's had this how many years he's
37:59paid storage for it you know i think for him it's time to let go i think that uh you know we're gonna have
38:06a deal all right really all right all right thank you so much when ran said they would take eight
38:14thousand dollars for the trailer i stuck my hand out and i was so happy all right frankie now we got
38:18to get it out of here man i shelled out 325 for a coffee shop sign from john wayne's hangout i think
38:27i can get a thousand bucks for this thing i bought the safeway side that's a great piece in great
38:34condition this will be an easy item to sell we paid eight thousand dollars for the airstream it
38:40sounds like we got a good deal but i'm gonna want to get this thing appraised hey guys thank you so
38:46much we're really excited about the trailer thanks for working thanks for working with us you know rand
38:52and gina they were great people they were fun to work with i mean he knew all the history of the local
38:57community where he planted his roots that is so cool to deal with somebody like that bye take care
39:03we're headed back to iowa we have a 1948 airstream in tow overall it's been a great trip
39:12you feel proud are you feeling proud i'll feel probably is everybody looking at us not yet but
39:17people are going to be like this they love it we need to like kick it up you know in the grand canyon
39:22or something and chill out for a few days we can man yeah we don't have a schedule you know what if
39:27we want to sleep and you know what we can do you just buy some screen some duct tape a little screen
39:32on a little duct tape just to get us by
39:43it's been a long trek home with the airstream but we finally made it we can't wait to show this
39:48off to danielle she's gonna flip you think she'll buy it in her dreams that'd be like six months
39:54salary yeah yeah the guys just rolled up in a freaking airstream i'm in love this is 1948 everything
40:12isn't rich check it what do you think holy cow this thing's beautiful it's a little rusty and old
40:20in certain places but so are mike and frank that's why i love it it's for sale don't touch that frank's
40:28been sleeping on it you don't want to you don't want who they have talked about an airstream for
40:33years i've wanted one for years i want to live in it we have one now and it's so kick i'll get the
40:41girls together we'll polish it up we did good we did good we knew danielle would love it but we
40:47need to get an expert over here to give us the details and find out if we got a great price
40:53hey hi guys how are you today good what's your name i'm steve oh this appraiser okay how you doing
41:00frank hi frank so danielle hooks us up with an airstream appraiser and he fixes these guys and restores
41:06them as a professional hobby what do you think of this dream here wow did you hear that he's already
41:13said wow i like that he likes it and this is now serial number five zero zero three number three
41:20yeah and it's 1948 that is a very low serial number so this was like the third trailer off the line in
41:261948 when's the last time you saw one this old this is uh the only one i've seen in real life so i've
41:32seen pictures of them and i've been looking for them that's good when they built this trailer
41:37everything was made by hand they were not mass produced they might make five or six of them
41:42a year i want to walk around it yeah take a look steve's never seen one of these before in the flesh
41:47so he's really going through it with a fine tooth comb what do you think no rust the fender wells aren't
41:54bad the floor feels solid it feels really nice inside is all original and i think it's in
42:01exceptional shape it's all there right i mean it's straight complete trailers there's the important
42:09part because you cannot buy the replacement parts anymore usually when you find a large item that's
42:14this old it's missing something but steve says it's 99 there all right here's a big question what's it worth
42:26we're invested into this thing for eight thousand dollars we need to make some money
42:30i hope he thinks it's worth more than that well just the way it says i think you could do 14 to 16
42:41thousand would be a good number on it really really oh man that's great that's more than i thought
42:46right when he said 14 to 16 i was like all right it's a good day to be a picker if you guys were to
42:53restore uh-huh you would be looking at 50 to 60 thousand dollars on this trailer to the right person
43:00really and how much on a restore you could probably stick 25 000 in it that's awesome thank you so
43:07much thanks so nice to meet you thanks for coming in man thank you gentlemen steve gave us two options
43:11one restore the thing put some more money into it or two it's worth 14 to 16 and sell it the way it is
43:17i'm going to take the second option 14 to 16 and this baby's going to ride down the road
43:21this thing makes me want to tie on a little cute apron and be a mobile home housewife
43:30so our mission today is to get the airstream clean
43:37can someone please get the pterodactyl poop right up here
43:39why isn't mike helping do this you've met mike and frank right
