00:00All right.
00:01You haven't been in this one?
00:02Actually, I've not taken anything out of here probably
00:04in 10 or 15 years.
00:06A storage unit that hasn't been opened this century.
00:09Get on there, big man.
00:10You know what I mean?
00:10I'll get on it.
00:12All right.
00:13That's what gets me out of bed in the morning.
00:15Woo!
00:15Oh, yeah.
00:17There is wall-to-wall robots in every corner.
00:21Is it a Craigston?
00:22Craigston astronaut.
00:23Man, he's a mitt.
00:24He's beautiful.
00:25This was the Cadillac of robots.
00:27It's almost too good to be true.
00:28Oh, he's real.
00:30This is the knucklehead manger.
00:32All I want to do is look at this knucklehead.
00:33I can't even think straight.
00:35Here it is.
00:36There it is, man.
00:391947 Harley knucklehead.
00:41What were you thinking?
00:4240 is my bottom dollar round.
00:4440,000?
00:45Yeah.
00:46I'm Mike Wolf.
00:47And I'm Frank Fredson.
00:49And we're Pickers.
00:51We travel the back roads of America looking to buy rusty gold.
00:57We make a living telling the history of America one piece at a time.
01:10Come here, man.
01:11Come here, man.
01:12Come here, man.
01:12What are you doing?
01:13We're working our way down to Tennessee waiting to get a lead from Danny.
01:17It's obvious that me and Frankie are spending way too much time together in the van.
01:20No, I've just been thinking about recycling here.
01:22I recycle all the time.
01:24I know, but I was thinking about setting up like a little bin in the back.
01:26We'll put the plastics, put the glass, put the aluminum.
01:30Make it so much easier just running the whole.
01:32You want to take square footage of the van and put bins in there.
01:35Yeah.
01:36I'm just trying to do my part as a good citizen.
01:39And if it annoys Mike, even better.
01:41It's going to take more room in the van than the money you're going to get.
01:45Okay.
01:46Yeah, but what's the price on the feeling knowing that I'm doing my part?
01:50I'm against this because for one, it takes up way too much real estate.
01:54Two, it's way noisy.
01:55And three, it's going to start stinking.
01:57We're already the biggest recyclers of them all.
02:00We all, we, you and I recycle everything.
02:03All of a sudden, Frank's doing this huge push to go green.
02:06I'm a little bit suspicious.
02:08It doesn't make sense to me.
02:09I don't know what you're thinking.
02:16Yeah.
02:16It's your grandma, Danielle.
02:18Danielle.
02:19Hey, Danny D, what's up?
02:20Hey.
02:21How are my boys?
02:23Cruising through the city here.
02:24Me and Frankie are out here working without a net
02:26because we haven't heard much from you.
02:28Oh my God.
02:29You're so needy.
02:30Okay.
02:30I have a lead for you.
02:31There's a couple, Kristen and Brian.
02:33They have this house.
02:34And Brian's son moves in.
02:36And lo and behold, Brian's son and his girlfriend are having a baby.
02:40But the house is full of Brian's junk.
02:42So now it's time to get all of it cleared out before this baby arrives.
02:45What kind of stuff's he got?
02:46There's all kinds of stuff like instruments and motorcycles and motorcycle parts.
02:52But get this.
02:53Mikey, he has a knucklehead.
02:55What?
02:56I thought that was pretty bad.
02:57I got my knucklehead.
02:59Frankie's got to step up and get in the big twin club.
03:01Yeah.
03:02Mike bought the last knucklehead.
03:03Wow.
03:04Oh my God.
03:05What's the cash money price on it today out the door?
03:0922.
03:12I'd come up a little bit.
03:14I'd do 20 grand on the bike.
03:17That should do it.
03:18All right.
03:19Thanks, man.
03:21All right.
03:21Send us the coordinates and we'll make it happen.
03:23Right.
03:24All right.
03:25Take care.
03:25Bye.
03:26You're like a little kid, man.
03:28I can see it, man.
03:28You're like a little kid at Christmas, Frankie.
03:30I can see it.
03:30If this guy needs to move his stuff out, today could be my day.
03:34Look at this place.
03:35Look at this place.
03:36Oh, yeah.
03:36Look at the forge.
03:36It's got the Galaxy 500 right there.
03:39We cruise down the lane and you can see the log cabin.
03:43All right.
03:44It's got to be in.
03:46Check out that cabin, man.
03:47I'm already inside.
03:48Slow down, man.
03:49Dude, get your poker face on.
03:50If you're serious about this knucklehead, you need to chill out.
03:53You can't show so much excitement.
03:54All right.
03:54I'll just slow my roll.
04:00How you doing?
04:01Hey, you Brian?
04:02What's going on?
04:02Come on out, Christian.
04:03Hey, how are you?
04:03How y'all doing?
04:04Hey, nice to meet you.
04:05I'm Mike.
04:05Hey, Mike.
04:06Nice to meet you.
04:06Hey, good to meet you.
04:08A little list, Brian.
04:09Some of the stuff we buy.
04:11Make us a good price.
04:11You can have everything in here.
04:13She's trying to sell all of my worldly physics.
04:14If you just have a hard time about it, I will throw him in.
04:18I like her.
04:19She's getting on him.
04:20She's like, hey, you got to clean out the cabin.
04:21He's got to make decisions today.
04:23Watch your step.
04:24Hopefully, the decisions are going to be good.
04:28This is it.
04:30Wow.
04:31It goes on and on, and there's two other buildings.
04:34We're looking around this room, and there's a lot of items.
04:36There's toys, amps, speakers.
04:38Every surface of this place is covered.
04:40Well, we don't actually live here.
04:41This is all stuff that does not fit in our house.
04:43This is just like a storage house.
04:45Yes.
04:46His son and daughter-in-law live over here in the front part of the house.
04:49They're going to have a baby in August.
04:51August.
04:51Oh, under the gun.
04:53Man, you're just a few months away.
04:54The pressure's too much.
04:55All right, there's a lot of pressure here.
04:58I've been collecting things ever since I was a kid.
05:00Pocket knives, all types of different toys.
05:02I just never threw anything away.
05:04You're admitting you're a hoarder?
05:05Yeah, to a certain extent.
05:07How about the collection of vintage aviator sunglasses here?
05:11I mean, do you understand?
05:13I would really like to see get cleaned out
05:15so that they'll have a clean, safe environment for the new baby.
05:18Well, we're here to alleviate some of that.
05:22Turtle shells.
05:24I like my Elvis in the 50s.
05:27I remember that.
05:28I had one when I was a little kid.
05:29These are cool.
05:30The Batscope, man.
05:31This is a Batman scope from the original 1960s TV show
05:36When Adam West starred.
05:37It's really rare to find one in this great condition.
05:40I had my little fork in the ground.
05:41I dug a hole.
05:42This is it.
05:44I can see a Charlie Weaver head sticking out.
05:47He's kind of a common toy.
05:48What he does, he shakes it up, he pours it in,
05:50and he drinks it, and then smoke comes out of here.
05:53Cheeks will pucker a little bit.
05:54A little bit.
05:54The Charlie Weaver bartender was made in the 1960s.
05:57Sure, they made a lot of them.
05:59But for an entry-level collector, this is a great piece.
06:13What would you do on both of these items?
06:15On both of them?
06:16Yeah.
06:18How about 25 bucks for him?
06:20How much for this?
06:22I like to put them both together.
06:2510 bucks for that.
06:26He's bundle master.
06:27I'd do 30 for the pair.
06:2830 for the pair.
06:30Let's go, baby.
06:31Let's go.
06:33Brian didn't seem so hip to selling this stuff, you know,
06:36but he realizes that they need the room,
06:37and most of all, Kristen wants it out.
06:40You wanna go 35?
06:42I'd do 30 on both.
06:4630 on both.
06:47Okay.
06:47All right.
06:48He's getting his motor running.
06:50Kristen, you're gonna love me.
06:53Let's make a deal.
06:54What will you take for Frank?
06:5730 bucks.
06:59Done.
06:59I think Frank is just charming.
07:06He's a little titty bear.
07:07I'd keep him, but I don't think Brian will let me.
07:10You've been a little forward with him, huh?
07:11Maybe just a slight.
07:12Me?
07:13I'm never forward.
07:16He's priceless.
07:17Yeah.
07:18You've gotta use your best assets.
07:19If mine is my beard and my charm,
07:22that's what I'm gonna use today.
07:23You are a special guy.
07:24Yeah.
07:24I know you are.
07:25I need to do something so I can get that knucklehead bought.
07:28When's the last time you had the knucklehead fired up?
07:30Man, it's been probably about five years.
07:32Five years, Franky.
07:33Franky and I are digging around.
07:34We're finding some smalls,
07:36but I can't get that knucklehead out of my mind.
07:38I got the very first issue of Easy Rider magazine.
07:40Very first one.
07:41It's the very first one.
07:42Let me show you.
07:43It's got a little bit of crease right there on the back.
07:45Yeah, it's got some charm on it.
07:46But not bad shape.
07:48That's a good one.
07:49Not for an old one, no.
07:50Me and Frank love Easy Rider magazine.
07:52Mighty Mill.
07:53We had the opportunity to pick one of the founders, Mill Blair.
07:56How you doing?
07:57Good, Frank.
07:58Hey, Mike.
07:59I did the magazine from 1971 until I think it was 87.
08:03That's the first one?
08:04Yeah.
08:05Mills is the guy who captured the culture of Southern California chopper scene.
08:10This is the first issue, man.
08:12I mean, to a comic book collector, this would be like the first issue number one Superman.
08:17What do you got on this?
08:18Make me an offer on it.
08:2020 bucks.
08:2120 bucks.
08:22The first copy came out in 1971.
08:25They sold 130,000 copies in two weeks.
08:28It's an amazing American story.
08:31That's a deal.
08:33No problem.
08:33See, I'm not that bad.
08:34He's easy.
08:35You're getting better.
08:36Baby, you're lubing up.
08:37He's the Easy Rider.
08:37The chicks.
08:38The money.
08:39The bikes.
08:40Everybody wanted to be the guy in Easy Rider magazine.
08:45This is my back, Kevin.
08:46Yeah, this looks like it's pretty sound here.
08:49This is the overflow.
08:50She's really organized.
08:51I'm not that organized.
08:52I just kind of, you know, throw stuff here and throw stuff there.
08:56But these are your original toys that you had, Brian?
08:58Yep, they're some of my original toys when I was a kid.
09:00All your original toys.
09:01Oh, yeah.
09:02Monster models.
09:06Toys always have a soft spot in people's hearts.
09:09I mean, people want things that they had when they were a kid.
09:11My first one was the King Kong.
09:13You put these together?
09:14Yep.
09:15You painted them all up?
09:16Put them together, glued them together, and painted them all up.
09:18You did a good job.
09:19It's hard to find stuff in mint condition, or it's hard to find the item at all.
09:23This is my favorite one right here, though.
09:24Creature from the Black Lagoon.
09:25Creature from the Black Lagoon, man.
09:39So how much are these models?
09:41I don't know.
09:42I'd probably take $5 a piece for them.
09:44All right.
09:44I'll do these three, 10 bucks.
09:48Oh, man.
09:49You're hurting my feelings.
09:51I figured $5 a piece was a steal, man.
09:55All right.
09:55Five bucks a piece.
09:5615 bucks.
09:57All right.
09:57All right.
09:57Cool, man.
10:00All right, Brian.
10:01Mm-hmm.
10:02You know, Danielle said you had a knucklehead.
10:04Yeah.
10:04Me and Frankie met Jones in to see it.
10:06I know you all are.
10:07The big ticket item is the knucklehead.
10:09This is the knucklehead manger.
10:11Welcome to the dungeon.
10:12That's what I want.
10:13That's why I'm here.
10:16Watch your step.
10:17Don't fall.
10:17It's the step ever.
10:19Mike.
10:19Oh, my God.
10:20There it is, man.
10:21The 1947 Harley knucklehead.
10:24They've got one, and we want it.
10:26Where'd you get this at?
10:27It was supposed to be a monument for a prize horse.
10:29How much you want for it?
10:30500.
10:31I don't care how long it takes.
10:32If I don't get this piece, this pick is toast.
10:35About 300 bucks for the horse.
10:40White.
10:41Oh, my God.
10:41There it is, man.
10:42The 1947 Harley knucklehead.
10:45I kept my cool through this whole tour.
10:47This is it.
10:48It's been sitting for about five years.
10:51It's red.
10:52It's got the buddy seat on it.
10:53It's got the auxiliary lighting on the front.
10:55So all the cheese graters, everything was on there?
10:57Yeah.
10:57All that come on it when I purchased it.
10:59I mean, this has got every accessory ever made, and I love it.
11:14It's like a time machine.
11:15You get on there, it's like nothing else, you know?
11:17Oh, I know, man.
11:18It's got a heart and soul to it that these new motorcycles don't have.
11:21It shines in his eyes.
11:23The holy grail for Harley collectors is the knucklehead.
11:26The look, the style, the ride, the balance.
11:29It's got everything, and they've got one, and we want it.
11:32What were you thinking?
11:34I had it appraised about 15 years ago, and it appraised for 25,000.
11:39They're out there, you know.
11:41They're out there.
11:4147s are out there.
11:43Yeah, I mean, it's the last year.
11:45I was thinking more like around 20.
11:48Couldn't go for 20, yeah.
11:51Mike paid $20,000 for his 37 knucklehead, which is a lot rarer than this, but Brian isn't budging.
11:57I mean, $25,000 do it?
12:02That's a $5,000 jump.
12:04I don't ever say things like that.
12:06Keep going.
12:07I thought you wanted him to sell some stuff.
12:09This is the one thing that he has that I really love.
12:12Honestly, it's the coolest thing he's got.
12:14You love this?
12:15I do.
12:16Christian's been helping us out the whole time, but now she's against me.
12:19How about $26,500?
12:33Man, $40,000 is my bottom dollar on it.
12:35$40,000?
12:37Yeah.
12:37He says $40,000.
12:41That bike's not even close to worth that.
12:44I'd be crying when you pulled off with it at $40,000.
12:46That's the I don't want to sell it price.
12:49All right.
12:49Well, that's no one to say when.
12:51I'm saying when.
12:51I have to back up from it.
12:53I think we're just going to have to pass.
12:54This is more sentimental than retail.
12:56Me and Frankie run into this kind of stuff all the time.
12:59I say 60% of the things that we find we cannot buy.
13:02There's so much emotional attachment to these items.
13:04The only thing I would encourage you to do is get this baby back on the road.
13:07I know it.
13:08Now, how many bikes do you have?
13:09Enough.
13:10So you can take me for a ride.
13:11I think Brian needs to get this going so he can take you for a ride.
13:14Well, yeah.
13:15You guys would love it.
13:15Can I ride with both of you?
13:16Not at the same time.
13:19All the flirting from Christian didn't get me anywhere.
13:22At the end of the day, she's sticking by her man, and I'm going home with no bike.
13:26All right.
13:27The creature from the Black Lagoon.
13:29I bought these models for $5 each.
13:31I value them at $20 a piece.
13:34I bundled the Batman Scope and the Charlie Weaver battery operated toy for $30.
13:38I think I can get at least $125 for both.
13:41I bought the first issue of Easy Rider Magazine for $20.
13:45I'm going to ask $75.
13:48See ya, baby.
13:49All right.
13:49Nice to meet you guys.
13:50I'm sure you don't want to stay with me.
13:51I would, but I got to make sure and get him home straight.
13:55I'm a good cook.
13:56Are you?
13:56I'm a good eater.
13:57We got some great items today, and we helped Christian motivate Brian to get rid of some of his stuff.
14:02Just in time for the arrival of his new grandbaby.
14:05All right, guys.
14:05Thanks, guys.
14:06See y'all.
14:06Bye.
14:07You're not worried about me running off after the bearded one?
14:09No, he's going to go all the time.
14:11You couldn't catch up to him.
14:12See you later.
14:13Bye, y'all.
14:21Are you still messing with that stuff?
14:23Yeah, man.
14:24It's all starting to come together here.
14:25Yeah, it is coming together.
14:27It's starting to smell in here.
14:28No, it's not.
14:28It's just...
14:29You haven't noticed all the flies and the bees in here?
14:31I got them all bagged up, dude.
14:33Look at all the flies in here, dude.
14:35There's flies in here from these cans and stuff.
14:37No, it's because we had the doors on for a couple minutes.
14:38I know what your motivation is.
14:40It's called a nickel apiece.
14:42Mike always thinks I have some type of hidden agenda.
14:45You know, why can't he just see the good part of it
14:47and just go along with it?
14:48I'll tell you what I'll do for you.
14:49I'll give you a dollar.
14:51You want me to give you a dollar?
14:52No, because for the first time in my life, it's not about money.
14:56It's about doing something good for the environment.
14:58Frank is actually trying to convince me that he's recycling out of goodwill.
15:02I know it's for the money.
15:04I'm not buying it.
15:05Here.
15:05Stick your hand out.
15:07There's a nickel.
15:09There you go.
15:09What happened to the dollar?
15:10See, it is about the money.
15:12That's your whole deal.
15:13Yeah, yeah, I know you.
15:20Now the pressure's on.
15:22We got two stores now.
15:23Have you thought about that?
15:24You gotta find twice this stuff.
15:26All it takes is one pick.
15:26I could have enough for three stores.
15:28All right, well then, find me one pick.
15:29I'm looking.
15:30Today we're on the back roads of Tennessee.
15:31I mean, we're getting back to the basics.
15:33We're trying to find our own leads.
15:34This place right here, he's got a big barn.
15:35All right.
15:37This guy's got a bunch of stuff.
15:39Oh, gas pump.
15:39I see some gas pump.
15:40Let's try this guy.
15:41He's got a bunch of stuff over the side there.
15:42Oh, yeah.
15:43Oh, yeah.
15:43This looks all right.
15:44Yeah, man, he does got some stuff.
15:46All right.
15:51This place looks perfect.
15:53This property is pretty big.
15:54There's gas pumps to the left.
15:55There's gas pumps to the right.
15:57There's a big barn in front of us.
15:58This looks like an amazing pick.
16:00Who knows what's inside?
16:01Hello.
16:02There's a guy right there.
16:03Hey, man, how you doing?
16:04Hey, can I help you?
16:06You almost scared me.
16:07Hey, I'm Mike.
16:08Mike, I'm Jim.
16:09Frank, how you doing, Jim?
16:09I'm Sarge.
16:10Nice.
16:11Call you Sarge?
16:11Okay.
16:12All right, Sarge.
16:12I got a flyer for you.
16:14Frank and I are pickers.
16:15We saw your gas pumps.
16:16We're out here picking probably like you do if you find a lot of this kind of stuff.
16:19I guess I could show you some pieces.
16:21I really don't sell it.
16:22I mostly restore pumps.
16:24They don't know how many times I'm approached to sell this stuff.
16:26And I need it.
16:27Well, can we look around a little bit?
16:29Sure.
16:2930 years ago, I started in the collision business.
16:31I learned early on how to do paint and body work.
16:34And at times, people would just come to you with anything.
16:37They'd say, you know, I need a fridge painted or a Coke machine.
16:39And 16 years ago, I was approached by a collector that said, I just need an old pump painted.
16:45It's like a corn maze, except it's a gas pump maze.
16:47I did a couple.
16:49It caught on.
16:49And the next thing you know, I have all this.
16:52Man, this is killer.
16:54This is a 30s pump.
16:56I love this.
16:56This is called an A38 National.
16:58Made it.
16:58Wow.
17:00I love how everything was so deco back then.
17:02Yeah.
17:02Are you interested in selling that?
17:04No.
17:04I basically don't sell a lot of the pieces that I have because, you know, I have them here for
17:08future contracts.
17:10What do you get for something like this?
17:11I'm going to keep it.
17:12Okay.
17:13Right off the bat, we find out that all these gas pumps aren't for sale.
17:18Tell us this now.
17:18Why do they call you Sarge?
17:20Probably a little abrasive in the business.
17:21That's why they call you Sarge?
17:22Because you're abrasive in the business?
17:23Yeah.
17:26I mean, it could be because you've got the Marines t-shirt on and the flat top.
17:31This Sarge guy is in the restoration business.
17:33That's a major conflict for me and Frankie.
17:35I see you've got old bicycles we've got on our list there.
17:38Old scooters, old motorcycles.
17:40Right.
17:40You ever find any of that kind of stuff or parts?
17:42After not being able to get this knucklehead, me and Frank have to find something on this
17:46pick to salvage this trip.
17:48Yeah.
17:49The car.
17:50Yeah, we have an old car.
17:52It's a 1934 town car by Chevrolet.
17:56It's not for sale.
17:57It's a rat rod project.
17:59You're going to build a rat rod out of it?
18:00Hope to.
18:12What's up with that horse, man?
18:14Look at this thing.
18:15Frank's a life-sized horse.
18:16Whenever we find the mega unusual, that's when we pounce on it.
18:19It's like those old Shriner neon signs.
18:22These are cool.
18:23Or that cowboy boot I bought.
18:25Alright, here it goes.
18:28If it's unusual, I want it.
18:30Where'd you get this at?
18:31A friend bought a business and the people left it there.
18:34It was supposed to be a monument for a prized horse they had, but they didn't take it with them.
18:54This was like a casting of their horse?
18:56Yeah, Charlie.
18:57It was a pet.
18:58No way.
18:59I finally find something that I'm totally in love with on this property.
19:03I mean, I like unusual stuff.
19:05That's unusual.
19:06It's definitely that, yeah.
19:07This horse could be what salvages this pick to me.
19:10Are you interested in selling that?
19:14Yeah.
19:15What about your mobile sign here?
19:16Probably a hundred bucks.
19:17I'd play a game of pool.
19:19A hundred if you win.
19:20Seventy-five if I win.
19:21You're out.
19:25It's pretty apparent.
19:26Ron's played a few games in his lifetime.
19:30Oh, man.
19:33Are you interested in selling that?
19:37Yeah.
19:39We just found the one thing here that Sarge can live without, and I love it.
19:43Five hundred.
19:44Five hundred bucks.
19:45His price is high, but we're going to work our magic here.
19:48I don't care how long it takes.
19:50If I don't get this piece, this pick is toast.
19:52About three hundred bucks for the horse.
19:55He's really after me selling that horse.
19:57Oh, you're at three, I'm at five.
19:58I'm at three, and you're at five.
19:59Yeah.
20:00But we're so far apart.
20:01I'm thinking four.
20:03I don't know, about four bills on it.
20:04We try to meet in the middle, and it just seems so hard.
20:07I mean, I keep throwing it out there.
20:08I keep putting myself out there.
20:10You know, I'm feeling pretty vulnerable.
20:12Sarge has got a hitch in his giddy-up.
20:13This guy's got to sell me this horse.
20:15I'm thinking, like, $3.50.
20:18Yeah, we're still on that horse, aren't we?
20:20He's on the horse, man.
20:22We can run it by Rizzo.
20:24He's got to check with his wife, Rizzo.
20:26Rizzo's the boss.
20:29All right.
20:29Okay.
20:30We're on a buyer.
20:31Okay.
20:31This happens to us all the time.
20:33We're doing a deal with a guy.
20:35We're getting to know each other.
20:36And then, when we want to buy the big-ticket item, the funky, the cool,
20:39you're like, you know what?
20:40Let me check with my wife.
20:43Put a good word in for me.
20:44Dude, I don't know.
20:45That thing's huge, man.
20:46I mean, that thing's, like, so...
20:47That's what's cool about it.
20:48It's gonna take up the whole van.
20:49It's a life-size horse.
20:50Your size's already taken up.
20:52There's no space.
20:53That's gonna take up all my space.
20:54What am I gonna buy?
20:55If he decides to sell the horse, don't worry about your side.
20:58I'll make it fit.
21:00I'll make it all fit.
21:00So now it comes down to this.
21:02Me and Frank have been through every inch of this place.
21:05And now it's all or nothing on Charlie the horse.
21:08All right.
21:09If we can't make this deal, we're leaving empty-handed and we've lost half the day.
21:13So what'd she say?
21:17She said Charlie's gone.
21:19All right.
21:20350.
21:21I just bought a horse.
21:23Hey, man.
21:23We got a shop in Tennessee.
21:24We got to own a horse.
21:25Me and Frankie walked into this barn wanting to buy a gas pump.
21:28We walked out with the horse.
21:30It's perfect.
21:31It's a good day to be a picker.
21:32All right.
21:32Wait a second.
21:34Wait a second.
21:35Wait a second.
21:37Ah!
21:39Whoopsie.
21:40This thing's peeing, man.
21:42Frank, that's why he's so heavy.
21:43He's full water.
21:44Ugh.
21:46I wonder if we should just leave him like this for a while.
21:49You got a car jack or something?
21:54All right, Sarge.
21:55Thank you so much.
21:56Sorry I couldn't say you anything, Frank.
21:58You know, I was kind of bummed out that I didn't buy anything from Sarge today.
22:01But you know what?
22:02Picking 101, I asked if he had any other leads.
22:04He said there was a toy collector right down the street.
22:06Just go to the car wash, turn right, make another right.
22:09Third house on the left.
22:10Bingo.
22:11Third house on the left, what's his name?
22:12Ron.
22:13Ron?
22:13He's got toys?
22:14Really robots.
22:15Robot toys?
22:16I mean, does he sell?
22:17Or is he just a collector?
22:18Yeah, he sells.
22:19When I hear toy collector, that's music to my ears.
22:21That's somebody that has the same passion as I do.
22:24Thanks!
22:25So long, guys.
22:26All right, so he said this guy sells stuff all the time.
22:29So who knows what he's got.
22:30I mean, he might have toys, he might have, I mean, this could be a good one.
22:32This pick could turn my luck around, and it's just a few blocks away.
22:39That's a cool light pulse.
22:40That's a good sign.
22:41This is just a regular residential house.
22:44But you know what?
22:44If this guy's a toy collector, it doesn't matter what's outside of the house.
22:48It matters what's inside.
22:50Hey, are you on?
22:51Yes.
22:52Hey, I'm Mike.
22:53Hey, Sarge sent us over here.
22:55He said you were into robots.
22:56You're in the right place.
22:58Cool.
22:59Come on in.
23:00All right.
23:01What was that?
23:03Look at those monkey heads.
23:04I collect space toys and jukeboxes and pinball machines and signs.
23:09Is this like a movie prop?
23:10I'm not sure what it is.
23:11It's just something I picked up.
23:14So is this like your little man room here?
23:16Yeah, kind of.
23:17This is cool, man.
23:18The room is covered with sci-fi stuff.
23:20He's got movie posters, he's got Star Wars models, and right in the middle of the room,
23:25he has a foosball table.
23:26Any of these robots for sale?
23:28Sure.
23:29This guy's robot collection is overwhelming.
23:31I mean, he's got every model, every brand, case after case.
23:35So looks like you got a little bit of new mixed in with old.
23:37I do.
23:38I like them all.
23:38If it's a robot, I love it.
23:40I grew up in the 50s, and that's when the day the Earth stood still and Forbidden Planet
23:45came out, and that's when they were just getting into the space race, and I've been hung
23:50on robots ever since.
23:51To this day, I can't get enough of them.
23:53I was looking at some of these.
23:55I know a little bit about a few of them, you know?
23:57As far as knowledge goes, I can't compete with this guy.
24:00I mean, he's a toy robot specialist.
24:02He's got stuff here I've never even seen before.
24:05I mean, what would you have to have for the Mr. Mercury?
24:07300 bucks.
24:16Pretty cool, isn't he?
24:17He's cool.
24:17Oh, he had the control, too.
24:19Yes.
24:20So he had a controller like that with a little thing, making him go back and forth?
24:23Yeah.
24:24Let me think about this one there since the back end's torn off it.
24:26How about this one with the jackhammer over there?
24:29Is it a Craigston?
24:30Craigston Astronaut.
24:31Ooh, that red one?
24:32Yeah.
24:33Space toys, they've always been red hot.
24:35Yeah, he's like a mint.
24:36He's a beautiful one.
24:38Let's take a look inside and see what the apartment looks like.
24:41Nice.
24:41It's almost too good to be true.
24:43Oh, he's real.
24:44Is he?
24:45He's real.
24:46Have you ever had batteries in this one?
24:48No.
24:48I don't ever run them.
24:49Some hardcore collectors never battery test their toys.
24:52Just like people that collect record albums never play their vinyl.
24:56They want to keep them all mint.
24:59This thing is pristine.
25:00So you never put batteries in them ever?
25:02No.
25:03Just even try it?
25:04No.
25:04This was the Cadillac of robots.
25:06So I'm thinking to myself, let's try to do a bundle here.
25:09Let's see if we can break the ice.
25:11What do you got on this guy?
25:12$400.
25:13$400 on this one?
25:15What's the best he could do on the other one if I bought both?
25:20Two bills.
25:22How about $550?
25:23I'll take both of them.
25:27Alright.
25:28$550 on both?
25:29$550.
25:30Good deal.
25:31Collectors spend their lives surrounding themselves with things that they love.
25:35So the fact that Frank was able to buy one of those pieces from Ron is amazing.
25:40Alright, now we see what you hear.
25:41That's a different look for ya.
25:42So after showing us his personal collection, Ron takes us to his storage building.
25:47Ha ha.
25:48Ha ha.
25:49Oh yeah, this is cool.
25:50This is like Dr. Frankenstein's castle in here, man.
25:53Yes it is.
25:54Creating all these robots.
25:55Have you ever thought about taking over the world?
25:57Yes.
25:58What's this off of?
25:59Pinball.
26:00That's off an old pistol game.
26:02Check it, Frank.
26:03I like it.
26:03Cast aluminum.
26:051950s.
26:06Space baby.
26:07This piece is part of an old arcade game.
26:09The guns would go through it and you would shoot targets.
26:12How much is this?
26:13Ten bucks.
26:14What year do you think it's from?
26:15Fifties.
26:17Alright, ten bucks, I'll tell ya.
26:19This could be the missing piece that someone's looking for for the restoration project, or you
26:23could hang it on the wall.
26:24It looks cool either way.
26:26What about your mobile sign here?
26:29Well, it's got some bad corners on it.
26:31Let's see what we got here.
26:35It's got some damage on both corners.
26:38Something you'd sell?
26:39What'd you get for it?
26:42Sixty bucks?
26:44No, I don't think I could go for sixty dollars.
26:47What were you thinking?
26:48Probably a hundred bucks.
26:51Dated 1956 now.
26:52Yeah, but it's cut out.
26:53I mean, I could go up to 75 on it.
26:56This particular mobile sign is not a real rare one, but it's very popular.
27:00You can still see the Pegasus and still read this mobile.
27:03Nah, I gotta have a hundred.
27:04I brought that thing down from Dallas, Texas.
27:07About eighty bucks.
27:10Ninety.
27:11I'll play you some foosball for it.
27:13Hundred if you win.
27:14Seventy-five if I win.
27:15I can't play foosball.
27:17Alright, then.
27:17But I'll play you some pool.
27:20I'd play you a game of pool.
27:21You're on.
27:22Alright.
27:24Pool's not really my game.
27:25I mean, he's got the home advantage.
27:26But sure, you know what?
27:27I'll take a chance.
27:31Open.
27:31Open.
27:34It's pretty apparent.
27:36Ron's played a few games in his lifetime.
27:38Hot dog.
27:41It's all yours, Frank.
27:46Whoa!
27:47Frankie's getting hot.
27:48Frankie is lighting up the table.
27:51Wow, Frankie.
27:54Oh, man.
27:58I don't know if Frank's playing eight ball or nine ball, but the balls are dropping fast.
28:05Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
28:08Alright, a hundred dollars.
28:09It felt great beating Frank in a game of pool, considering I won twenty-five dollars from him and he
28:14didn't like losing.
28:15It's toasty around the edges.
28:17It gives us some character.
28:18I picked up the mobile sign for a hundred dollars.
28:20I thought I'd at least get two hundred.
28:23You come to papa.
28:24He's like one of the family.
28:26Alright, I'm gonna put him.
28:27We're gonna put him right up front here.
28:28This Cragston robot toy cost me $400.
28:31I'm gonna have it appraised.
28:33This was a great day of freestyling.
28:35We got two picks for the price of one.
28:38I'm glad that I sold Mike and Frank some toys today.
28:41All right, my friend. See ya!
28:43That gives me more money to go out and get another one.
28:45See ya, Ron. Take care, man.
28:47See ya, guys.
28:51All right.
28:52What's this? Some more surplus?
28:54Right now, I feel like me and Mike are entering King Tux 2.
28:57God, this keeps on going.
28:59I mean, it feels like no one's been in here for thousands of years.
29:02Yeah.
29:07These picks have been like a roller coaster, you know?
29:09Up and down, up and down.
29:12Who is it?
29:12Guess who that is.
29:13Yeah, I can imagine.
29:14Danny D.
29:15We need Danielle to get us a big lead so we can fill this van up before we go home.
29:19Danny D.
29:20Danny D, what up?
29:22Guess what time it is.
29:23What time is it?
29:24Lead time!
29:25All right, what do you got?
29:26This gentleman's name, Billy Wright.
29:28Really cool dude.
29:29He owned an antique store for 25 years, so he has storage facilities full of antiques.
29:36Killer.
29:36But these storage units have not been opened up for decades, so we don't really know what's
29:40in there, but it could be stuff that's really awesome.
29:42What do you say his name was?
29:43Billy Wright.
29:44I hope it doesn't end up being Billy wrong.
29:47It's so right, it can't be wrong.
29:48Hey, Danielle.
29:49Find us a recycle center where that guy's pick is because these cans in the back of this
29:54van are driving me nuts.
29:55No, no, no.
29:56I have to support Frankie in his honest effort to create an environment.
30:01Okay, I gotta go.
30:02He's loving Mother Earth.
30:03You're breaking up.
30:05Being green is cool, regardless if it's recycling or green money.
30:08I see this as a win-win situation.
30:11Okay, here it is.
30:12This is it right here?
30:12This is it right here.
30:15Alright.
30:16This looks good, dude.
30:17I can't wait to see these storage units.
30:19I mean, my mind has been racing.
30:21This is what keeps me on the road.
30:22This is what pickin' is all about.
30:29Hey, you Billy?
30:30Yeah.
30:31Hey, I'm Mike.
30:31I'm alright.
30:32Nice to meet you.
30:33How you doing?
30:33I'm Frank.
30:34Good to meet you.
30:35Thank you, fellas.
30:35Did you talk to Danielle on the phone?
30:37Yes, I did, yeah.
30:38Well, she said you used to be an antique dealer.
30:39I was an antique dealer.
30:41I went in business early in the 60s.
30:44I've actually been picking all my life.
30:46I used to go out once a week and pick.
30:48You know, and my wife and I had an antique shop together.
30:51And she passed away in 2004.
30:54And I got out of it and quit.
30:56But I've got so much.
30:57I mean, there's just boxes full of stuff.
31:00She said you had a few storage buildings that hadn't been open
31:02like maybe 20, 25 years.
31:04Well, I do.
31:04I've got probably seven or eight or ten.
31:07Really?
31:07I'm not sure, you know.
31:08But some of them I've been in and out.
31:10And some of them I've just forgot about.
31:11This guy's got so many storage units that he's had stuff in for years.
31:15Who knows what's going to be in there.
31:16And he has no emotional attachment.
31:19Is there anything in the house we can look at?
31:21I mean, you can take a quick look.
31:22Yeah, let's look real fast.
31:23Heck yeah, we're here.
31:24Might as well look.
31:25Billy was an antique dealer.
31:26So he's probably got some killer stuff in the house, too.
31:29All right.
31:29I don't want to leave any stone unturned.
31:33Oh my gosh.
31:34Oh yeah.
31:35Oh yeah.
31:36I don't have no rhyme or reason to anything, you know.
31:39That's the best way.
31:40You're living in it, man.
31:42This guy, he's a true collector.
31:44Look at this.
31:46Buried on a shelf, I find this really cool red top ale advertising piece.
31:50This piece is rare for two reasons.
31:52One, red top ale hasn't been made since the 1950s.
31:55And also, this is an early wood composite.
31:57Something that would have been destroyed or broken easily back in the day.
32:10And I just ended up getting this bottle extra just to kind of go with it.
32:13Oh yeah.
32:13So this is the red top ale bottle.
32:15Oh, absolutely.
32:16Yeah.
32:16It's the right combination.
32:18He has an original red top ale bottle to go with it.
32:21It's an amazing set.
32:22What do you got on this?
32:23For all of it, 150.
32:25150?
32:26Yeah.
32:26Wow.
32:27Billy is at full-blown retail.
32:29Does that include his fishing pole?
32:30Yeah, we'll throw that in.
32:32All right.
32:33Is this factory equipment or do you put that in there?
32:35You put that in there.
32:37Frankie and I have been down this road with other antique dealers.
32:39We can't pay full price.
32:41All right.
32:41I'll take it for $7,500.
32:44$75,000.
32:46$75,000?
32:47Catch him, Frank.
32:48What do you get for something like this?
32:49$400 bucks.
32:50That's what we would get for it too.
32:52How about $75,000?
32:55$75,000?
32:56Oh, I can't go that low.
32:57I couldn't know it.
32:58Well, hey.
32:59I mean, I'll tell you what I'll do with you.
33:01What?
33:03I'll go a hundred and a quarter and I'll throw in the bottle in the pole.
33:07A hundred bucks.
33:08Break the ice.
33:09I got cash.
33:10Cash.
33:10Well, break the ice.
33:11Cash and carry.
33:12A hundred bucks.
33:12All right.
33:13A hundred bucks.
33:13I love it.
33:15Beer collectors can't get enough of these rare display pieces.
33:18I'll have no problem selling this.
33:21Wow.
33:23Mmm.
33:24He's like a kid.
33:25Look at him.
33:25He's like underneath a Christmas tree.
33:27Yeah.
33:28Hey.
33:29What'd you find?
33:30How about this memory jug somebody made into a lamp?
33:34Memory jugs are an old Southern tradition.
33:36These mosaic works of art were made by covering a bottle or a jug with adhesive and then encrusting them
33:42with mementos from someone's life.
33:43How much you want for this?
33:47A hundred bucks.
33:49How about seventy-five?
33:51Because this piece was repurposed as a lamp, that takes a little bit of the value out of it.
33:55I'll do eighty-five dollars.
33:57It's got a couple chips in it.
34:00How about eighty?
34:02Gosh.
34:03Damn.
34:04It's getting hot in here, isn't it?
34:06I'm going to have to take my hat off here.
34:08All right.
34:08Eighty-five.
34:09Eighty-five.
34:10You worked with me on the last piece.
34:11It's all right, I'm at eighty-five on this one.
34:13I've got to hand it to Billy.
34:15This guy's using every trick in the book to negotiate with me.
34:18You said you had a bunch of buildings to look in?
34:20Well, I've got some stored buildings if y'all want to look at them.
34:23This is the main event.
34:24I can't wait to get into these storage units.
34:26All right.
34:28You haven't been in this one?
34:29I've always just stored stuff, put them in these old buildings and locked them down and everything.
34:33Actually, I've not taken anything out of here probably in 10 or 15 years.
34:36As a picker, that's music to my ears.
34:38Get on there, big man.
34:39I'll do it.
34:40I'll do it.
34:41All right.
34:42A storage unit that hasn't been opened this century?
34:45Pop it like it's hot.
34:47That's what gets me out of bed in the morning.
34:48Whoa.
34:49All right.
34:51Man, this place is stocked.
34:53Oh, yeah.
34:53This looks good.
34:55Ooh.
34:56Man.
34:57Oh, yeah.
35:00How much for all the printing block trays?
35:02These movable type letters were used for typesetting on a printing press.
35:06Right now, there's a huge resurgence of people using these old printing presses for artwork.
35:11There's a ton of them here, so this could be a great buy.
35:14How many you got there?
35:15Let's see.
35:15One, two, three, four, five, six.
35:19I'd take $125 for all of them.
35:22I'll give you $100.
35:24Whew, man.
35:26How long have these things been sitting in here?
35:27Long time.
35:28All right, we'll deal.
35:29All right, $100.
35:30I need the room.
35:31All right, I'm on it.
35:33Woo!
35:34Oh, yeah.
35:35Right now, I feel like me and Mike are entering King Tut's tomb.
35:39I mean, it feels like no one's been in here for thousands of years.
35:43Yeah.
35:46Look at these.
35:49How about these exercise pins, juggling pins?
35:52These exercise pins date back to the early 20th century.
35:55They were a huge part of an exercise craze that was sweeping the country back then.
35:59Everybody from strongmen to Victorian ladies to Boy Scouts used these things.
36:03How many are they?
36:04Four of them.
36:05Four of them.
36:06Ten dollars a piece.
36:10How about, uh, how about five bucks a piece?
36:17If you'll take them all, thirty bucks for the four.
36:20I'll throw in that one.
36:21All right, I'm on it.
36:23All right.
36:24What's this?
36:24Some more surplus?
36:26Billy gave us VIP access to a secret stash.
36:29Now this keeps on going.
36:30Now all you have to do is fill up the van.
36:33Hey Billy, how about your ice cream sign?
36:35Uh, about a hundred and a quarter on that.
36:37How about a hundred right now?
36:39Let's do it.
36:41There's so much stuff to buy here.
36:43How much do you want for this?
36:44Forty for that.
36:45Thirty bucks is all I can do on it.
36:47Have to.
36:48Okay.
36:48What do you got on this?
36:50Like forty bucks.
36:51Twenty-five.
36:52Twenty-five?
36:53All right.
36:54How much?
36:55Thirty-five.
36:56Twenty bucks.
36:57All right.
36:58Bill, what about this plastic light?
37:00Twenty-five bucks.
37:01I'm at twenty bucks that I'm gonna read in my mind.
37:04You got it.
37:05You know that's a good deal.
37:06It's a great day to be a picker.
37:08This is called The Great Astronaut.
37:09Made by Craigston in 1961.
37:12It's a beautiful shape.
37:14How much is it worth?
37:15Why don't we see if it works?
37:17Pull the lever, dude.
37:18I'm pulling the lever.
37:26Hey, Billy, how much for this light?
37:28It's a train light, right?
37:29I think it's a train light.
37:30This is like a traffic light for a train engineer.
37:32When this lit up, it told him to slow his roll
37:34and proceed with caution.
37:36How much?
37:39Uh, thirty dollars.
37:41About twenty.
37:44I'll do twenty-five for you.
37:46Twenty-five.
37:47Okay.
37:48I heard I'm honest.
37:49There's a huge culture of rail fans
37:51that love anything railroad related.
37:53This is an amazing piece for them.
37:57Oh, yeah.
38:06Hey, Billy.
38:06Yo.
38:07How about this clock?
38:08I come across this new grape lighted up sign.
38:11Now, that's real popular down here.
38:13New grape, yeah.
38:14This is a cool piece because it's from the south down here.
38:16I don't see stuff like this back in Iowa.
38:29What are you thinking?
38:30Well, it's in good shape.
38:31It's seventy-five dollars.
38:32Seventy-five?
38:33Yeah.
38:34I mean, I don't know if it works or not, you know?
38:37If the clock doesn't work, I'm taking a chance on it.
38:42Sixty?
38:44I'm taking a chance on this clock, but I think it's rare enough.
38:47I've got to have it.
38:48Could you do sixty dollars?
38:54I'm moving the hand in.
38:56God, I don't know.
38:58All right, let's do sixty.
39:00Sixty?
39:00Come on.
39:01Yeah.
39:01All right.
39:01Okay.
39:02This is what picking's all about.
39:03I mean, we got to dig up some great pieces, and we had a great day with Billy.
39:07We got a few things, you know?
39:08I paid thirty dollars for the Indian exercise clubs.
39:11I'm going to ask sixty-five apiece.
39:13I bought the new grape lighted sign for sixty-five dollars.
39:17I think I can get the hundred and twenty-five dollars.
39:20I paid eighty-five dollars for the memory jug.
39:22I'm going to ask one eighty-five.
39:26Billy?
39:27Hey, I enjoyed it.
39:28Yeah.
39:28You're a good horse trader, my friend.
39:30I appreciate it.
39:31Mike and Frank can come back any time.
39:32See ya!
39:33All right.
39:34They seem to be like pretty good guys.
39:36We got an open invitation.
39:37Any time.
39:39All right.
39:39See ya, man.
39:40I'll take care.
39:41Drive carefully.
39:43We got some good stuff.
39:44And anything that's been under twenty, thirty years, it's vintage.
39:47Exactly.
39:48This has been a killer pick, and it's just what we needed to load up the van before heading
39:52home.
39:53Iowa, here we come.
40:02I think that'll work.
40:03I mean, as long as you get a good seal right on top there.
40:05The thing is, though, I think the sediment bowl has a chip in it.
40:09Oh, so what?
40:10We're gonna get one of those at.
40:11It feels good to be back at the shop.
40:13We're tinkering around with a lot of the stuff that we bought on the road.
40:16This is our time to clean it up, tweak it, and sell it.
40:19Did you get it working yet?
40:19It's almost going.
40:20Oh.
40:21Who's this?
40:21This is Stan.
40:22Stan is our robot guy.
40:23Oh, yeah.
40:24Nice to meet you.
40:25You know anything about Izettas?
40:27No, not Izettas.
40:28Neither do we.
40:29I've been collecting all my life.
40:31Over 20 years ago, I started getting into robots and space toys, and I have the world-class
40:36collection of all of them.
40:38I hear you have a robot.
40:39Let me get it for you.
40:40Ron had a lot of robot toys, and I didn't know which one to pick.
40:43I mean, some of them looked too new to be true.
40:44I think I took a chance on it, but hopefully I can at least double my money.
40:48I think this is an actual astronaut, not a robot, right?
40:51Yes, it's called the Great Astronaut, made by Craigston in 1961.
40:56It's a beautiful shape, except it's missing a radar dish, which is very common when you
41:01find it unboxed.
41:02Okay.
41:03Right there.
41:03But you can find reproductions for it, and it really doesn't alter the value.
41:07Screws down on there.
41:07I see that.
41:08It just fits right in.
41:09Does it work?
41:09You know what?
41:10Well, we haven't really tried it.
41:12One of the reasons that I got it was because when I looked at the battery compartment, I
41:16mean, look how clean that is.
41:17It's perfect.
41:18To find a toy loose without the box in that condition is unusual.
41:23So, I mean, when we're looking for robot toys and stuff, I mean, what's the best to look
41:26for?
41:26Well, from the mid-'50s to the late-'60s, most of the great toys were made in Japan, so you
41:32always want to look for made in Japan or stamped Japan.
41:35After World War II, the only industry they had was making toys for the baby boomer Americans,
41:41because all of a sudden the GIs came back to America and started having babies, and we
41:45all needed toys.
41:46And then when NASA started in the early-'60s, they had the Mercury program, so they started
41:51doing astronauts instead of robots.
41:52Oh, okay.
41:53So, how much is it worth?
41:55If it works, $1,000 to $1,200.
42:04Really?
42:04How about if it stays in this original spot here and doesn't move?
42:08If it doesn't work, $600 to $700.
42:11Ooh, that's a big gap there.
42:14Why don't we see if it works?
42:15I was getting a little bit nervous when Frank put the batteries in.
42:19I mean, there was a big price difference.
42:22All right, here we go.
42:24Ready?
42:27All I can think about right now is $1,000 if it moves and $700 if it doesn't.
42:33All right, here you go.
42:34Ooh, that's a big, that's a big...
42:35It's like pulling a slot machine.
42:37Pull the lever, dude.
42:38I'm pulling the lever.
42:41Did you pull it?
42:42It's pulled.
42:43It is?
42:44Hold on.
42:44Double pull it.
42:47I don't think it's working, dude.
42:48You still did good.
42:49I still was doubling my money.
42:57You did good, Frankie.
42:59You had all the ones to pick on the shelf.
43:01It was a hard pick.
43:01We were picking a robot guy, a guy that loves robots.
43:05He even built robots.
43:06I mean, to go through them all and pick the best one.
43:09He did great.
43:10Stan, thanks for taking the time.
43:12No, thank you very much.
43:12Appreciate it.
43:13Thanks.
43:13That's a lot.
43:32Hey, Frankie.
43:33You need some help back there?
43:34I got him.
43:35Okay.
43:36Frankie better have my money.
43:38Frankie better have my money.
43:4238-35.
43:44I helped the environment.
43:45We irritated Mike.
43:46And we made money.
43:48Win, win, win.
43:49That's what I'm talking about.
43:51What are you going to do with your money?
43:52I'm going to put it towards the ultimate can.
43:54An oil can.
43:55Brilliant.
