00:00And I'll explain this to you with when it comes to what the players dealt with on Thursday and a
00:06little bit of Friday, when you have gusty winds, soft fairways, soft greens, and really fast, slopey greens, Poana, that's
00:15a really difficult combination because when you have greens that are pitched back to front and you're trying to take
00:21spin off the golf ball with wet ground, wet golf ball.
00:24Well, I guess maybe not quite as wet of a golf ball because it's lift clean in place, but even
00:28still with a clean golf ball, guys are hitting these knockdown shots that are flying hole high.
00:34They're ripping it back 40 feet.
00:36And then you throw in, oh, you might get a gust 20 miles an hour back into your face to
00:41a back pin.
00:42You're like, how am I supposed to get this anywhere near the hole?
00:46And it felt like to me that Scotty just got in some weird places, hit putts that just didn't go
00:51in.
00:52And then like the putting in the iron game was off.
00:54But I think a lot of it had to do with just being a weird, weird afternoon of weather that
00:58I thought was really challenging conditions.
01:01A lot of people were like, no, dude, it was really soft.
01:04Like when it's soft, it's easy.
01:05Sometimes that's not the case.
01:07Sometimes when it's too soft, it can be even more difficult when you have really fast greens and throw in
01:14some wind.
01:15Yeah, and you're seeing things this week that you'd never expect from a tour event, let alone rib, right?
01:21Like I think it was Adam Scott on Thursday or Friday who hit a tee shot that the ball just
01:26plugged right in the middle of the green.
01:28And I think we'll discuss a little bit of that later on the show as it relates to venue.
01:31But I think it's, yeah, it can be a challenging one, a tricky one.
01:35But then you flip on the TV on Sunday and Scott Shepard back 931 to close this thing out.
01:42And it's just he's on his bad weeks.
01:45The fact that he still is doing what he's doing is not equally as impressive, but just, you know, a
01:50statement of what a class player he is.
01:53Yeah, the top 10 street unfortunately came to an end.
01:55And I think it was 17 straight that he had.
01:58So coming up short on the top 10, finishing 12th.
02:02But just to expand on that just a little bit further when it comes to just his iron game, what
02:07makes him such a good iron player?
02:08It's his ability to hit the ball up into the air.
02:11So his apex is very, very high.
02:13He's great at he has so much feel in his hands and with how far he's going to hit the
02:18golf ball.
02:19And so I think that gets negated a little bit when the greens get really, really soft.
02:23And he's having to bring the flight down and all of a sudden everybody's kind of having to hit the
02:28same type of shot versus everybody's trying to hit the shot that Scottie can hit over and over again, which
02:34is just these high, soft, floaty ones that that he makes look just so easy.
02:38Well, I think it was even on Thursday and I was watching maybe maybe prior to the broadcast window opening
02:43on the on PGA Tour Live where there was one hole where he hit a shot that he was trying
02:49to hit, trying to bring the flight down.
02:50And then it came up well short and his remark to Ted Scott was like, oh, maybe I shouldn't have
02:54flatted that down.
02:55You know, the wind can be a tricky element.
02:58Sometimes you're flouting it down and the wind's kind of pushing it down even further.
03:01And so there is an element of variability there to your point where, you know, it's do we like watching
03:07it as fans because it's difficult for these guys and all these different changing variables make it harder and the
03:13score is lower and we enjoy that sitting on our couch, you know, just hanging out.
03:16Yes, that that's fun. But at the same time, it it is a less precise test.
03:22Right. Whereas under normal conditions, you know, what Scottie's doing is the more impressive skill set.
03:27The ability to kind of bring this flight up and change flights and land it soft on firm, fast greens.
03:31That's the sort of elite skill as it relates to iron plate that not many other guys have.
