00:00The U.S. men's hockey team is golden again, beating Canada in overtime just like the U.S.
00:06women's team did a few days before. And talk about this for timing. This happened 46 years
00:11to the day after U.S. hockey's miracle on ice, the epic defeat of the Soviet Union at the Lake
00:17Placid Olympics. Now, if the Soviets were U.S. hockey's white whale back in the 1980s,
00:23Canada has surely taken their place over the last few decades. The Stars and Stripes fell to the
00:27Canucks in the gold medal game in both the 2002 and 2010 Olympics, as well as the semifinal in 2014.
00:34But Sunday, Jack Hughes, the 24-year-old star of the New Jersey Devils, refused to let history repeat
00:39itself, scoring a sudden-death overtime goal to grab the gold in the Milan Olympics. And this kid
00:46gave everything he had, heart, soul, body parts. Hughes started the game with a full set of teeth,
00:52but he did not end the game that way, literally bleeding red, white, and blue on the ice after
00:57getting a high stick to the face. Among the fans gathered in Milan for the historic final was the
01:02family of the late Team USA and NHL star Johnny Goudreau, who, along with his brother, was killed
01:07by a drunk driver in 2024. And the team honored Goudreau by parading his jersey around the ice
01:13before bringing his young daughter Noah and oldest son Johnny onto the ice for their team photo.
01:19I am not crying. Is someone cutting onions in here? Seriously, if you haven't seen these photos,
01:24I'll link to it. Just my heart.
