00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:50Four matches for you on tonight's Match of the Day, including the North London Derby and
00:00:55key games affecting the bottom of the table.
00:00:57The BAFTAs might have ignored their talents, but Danny Murphy and Shea Gibran are still
00:01:01my leading men tonight.
00:01:03After conceding an injury time equaliser against Wolves on Wednesday night, Premier League leaders
00:01:08Arsenal started the day two points clear at the top, while new head coach Igor Tudor took
00:01:14charge of Tottenham for the first time.
00:01:15Your commentator is Steve Wilson.
00:01:19Mikel Arteta says that Arsenal are exactly where they want to be.
00:01:23Well, after last night's invitation to cocktails, it rather sounds like Pep Guardiola feels
00:01:29exactly the same way about Manchester City.
00:01:32Spurs are nowhere near where they want to be.
00:01:35But staying put, that is staying in the Premier League, might have to be enough come May.
00:01:40Igor Tudor begins by making two changes to Thomas Frank's last selection.
00:01:45What hasn't changed is a lengthy injury list and Odober has been added to it.
00:01:50Solanke goes to the bench.
00:01:52In comes João Palinha and Kolo Mouane.
00:01:54It looks like Palinha will play in a back three.
00:01:58Arteta makes two changes to the eleven, which started Wednesday's costly draw with Wolves.
00:02:04Madweke and Martinelli replaced by Trossard and Eze, who scored that memorable hat-trick
00:02:08on his North London debut.
00:02:10He's only started four league games since.
00:02:15It's a fantastic atmosphere for the 199th North London derby in major competition.
00:02:24And it is laden with even more significance than usual.
00:02:32Saka.
00:02:34Timber in a good position.
00:02:35Plenty of red shirts in the middle, the downward header blocked by Dragushin.
00:02:41It's Jokeresh, who made contact with it.
00:02:48Jokeresh straight onto the thigh of Radu Dragushin.
00:02:58David Raya, that's a great ball, Vicario came for it.
00:03:02Here's Trossard, he's had a little look to try and get his...
00:03:05Sight of goal sorted out, goodness me, Van der Venn left it.
00:03:08I guess Dragushin gave him a shout.
00:03:16Jokeresh, Van der Venn, Spence, can't get this away Tottenham.
00:03:24Timber, good ball that, Dragushin there.
00:03:29Spence jumping into Trossard.
00:03:32No, Peter Banks sees it the other way.
00:03:35Well, David Raya's ball away to Bukayo Saka.
00:03:38Nearly ripped Tottenham open here.
00:03:42Could have worked out worse for Vicario and Tottenham.
00:03:48There he is, the new man, Igor Tudor, the Croatian in charge of all things Tottenham until the end of
00:03:57the season.
00:03:59Nicely played into Victor Jokeresh, Dragushin didn't do enough and Jokeresh is very close.
00:04:06Really good play here by the Arsenal centre forward.
00:04:10Had the beating of Radu Dragushin here.
00:04:12It's a good effort, that.
00:04:18Timber.
00:04:25Saka's little ball in and it's going to be a corner kick to Arsenal off the head of Bissouma.
00:04:33So Bukayo Saka to take Arsenal's corner.
00:04:38Gabriel on the penalty spot, Saliba in front of Vicario.
00:04:42In comes the corner kick.
00:04:44Jokeresh heads it down and wide off the head of Saliba.
00:04:48Saliba, really good header by Jokeresh.
00:04:52Didn't get a lot of power on it, Saliba, and didn't quite get the direction it needed either.
00:05:03Timber's throw, Zubimendi.
00:05:08And Eze.
00:05:10It's Saar, it's Timber.
00:05:16Saka.
00:05:18It's got through Saar.
00:05:19Bukayo Saka for Arsenal.
00:05:21Eze, 1-0.
00:05:24And Eberici Eze is at it again against Tottenham.
00:05:28The club, of course, he seemed to be on the point of joining.
00:05:34Feel the force of Eberici Eze for the fourth time this season.
00:05:40Saka inevitably involved.
00:05:43Saar didn't deal with it.
00:05:46Eze's first touch.
00:05:48Saw the ball just sit up for him beautifully, actually.
00:05:52And his second touch put the ball in the net.
00:05:57Spurs nil, Arsenal 1.
00:06:00And that will sicken Tottenham Hotspur supporters.
00:06:10Spence and Simons won't get on to that because Rice does.
00:06:42And he's lost it to Colin Mawani here.
00:06:43He finally has a Premier League goal and it's some stage on which to score it and some time at
00:06:51which to score it.
00:06:52But this was Declan Rice after Arsenal took the lead, focus, think, keep your concentration.
00:07:00But it's Declan Rice who's dispossessed.
00:07:03Spurs equalise.
00:07:06And the apology is swift.
00:07:08And the apology is swift.
00:07:15Dragosheen in front of Jokeres.
00:07:19Capier, that's a nice looking ball.
00:07:21Saka might get on this and Saka has.
00:07:22Vicario with a crucial save.
00:07:28Vicario with a vital save.
00:07:34But psychologically, this is a game Arsenal really will feel they need to win.
00:07:40They have dropped seven points in their last five games from winning positions.
00:07:46Eze has found Saka.
00:07:51With the half-block Timbers S.
00:07:52Spence needs to be really careful here.
00:07:55Trossard!
00:07:56Oh, that is so close.
00:08:01Could Jokeres have slid in at the far post?
00:08:07Arsenal have won eight of the last ten North London derbies,
00:08:10and he will know, as well as anybody, that they need to win this one as well.
00:08:22Simons for the touch.
00:08:23Colin Moran, he's back heel.
00:08:26Javi Simons has found a little bit of space here, and got the shot away,
00:08:30and that's a really good save.
00:08:32Well, fewer than 30 seconds into the second half of the game he's called on.
00:08:39Nice little back heel into Javi Simons, who has a lot to do here.
00:08:43Found a little bit of room, that's on target.
00:08:46And well saved.
00:08:57Timber, it's come to Jokeres, great goal!
00:09:02He had so much space, Victor Jokeres.
00:09:08Controlled it and drove it beyond Vicario, and Arsenal are in front again.
00:09:16Now, having got themselves in front, can Arsenal stay in front?
00:09:22It's something they've struggled with of late.
00:09:35Conor Gallagher.
00:09:38Keeps it in play.
00:09:40There's a little flick on the cross.
00:09:42Colin Moran, he's done it again!
00:09:46It's not going to count, it's a free kick.
00:09:50It's a push.
00:09:52Well, they'll check it.
00:09:55Well, I think his hands are up into the back of Gabriel.
00:10:00It's a little touch.
00:10:02Gabriel is taking a chance by going to ground, clearly unnecessarily.
00:10:07But it is a push.
00:10:09And it is still Tottenham 1, Arsenal 2.
00:10:17Well, there is the clear promise of more goals in this game.
00:10:23Here's Saka, though, as it was won by Moschera.
00:10:26But Kaio Saka, Vicario's hands got up very quickly.
00:10:30And it rebounded back into his hands off Dragosin.
00:10:34Arsenal are creating opportunities to get a third goal.
00:10:40They may regret not taking one of them.
00:10:49Oh, picked off by Eze, and Eze can play Saka in.
00:10:52Saka, and a chance for Eze, and he takes it.
00:10:57It's that man again.
00:11:00Five goals against Tottenham Hotspur this season.
00:11:04Five goals and counting.
00:11:06That header from Dragosin was picked off by Eze.
00:11:10Beautifully round the corner from Jokeres.
00:11:12Saka denied.
00:11:13Eze not to be denied.
00:11:15And Arsenal now have this game in their grasp.
00:11:21It's a great challenge, actually, on Saka.
00:11:25But it fell beautifully for Eze.
00:11:283-1 Arsenal.
00:11:32Well, not for the first time this season.
00:11:35It looks like Tottenham are heading to home defeat.
00:11:38It would be their eighth home league defeat of the season.
00:11:43Floated in by Spence.
00:11:45Rice losing out to Dominic Solanke.
00:11:52Spence did really well.
00:11:54Richarlison's flick.
00:11:55And I think David Raya has kept it out.
00:11:59And with seven minutes to go, this is potentially a huge save from David Raya.
00:12:06Spence did really well.
00:12:08Richarlison's flick.
00:12:10And Raya recovers.
00:12:14And Arsenal still have a two-goal cushion.
00:12:18It was within centimetres of being very different.
00:12:22How important could this be?
00:12:25Michael Arteta.
00:12:27Who is being put through the ringer there.
00:12:30Great reactions.
00:12:37Great to Spence.
00:12:41Martinelli, Madweke, Odegaard.
00:12:45Jokeres wants it and he's got it.
00:12:47And Jokeres makes it four.
00:12:51And all that remains now is for Arsenal songs of celebration
00:12:56to reverberate around a rapidly emptying Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
00:13:02Just moved it swiftly.
00:13:05And Jokeres, who's been terrific, knocks it beyond Vicario.
00:13:13Arsenal are restoring their lead at the top of the table.
00:13:21The referee blows his whistle.
00:13:23And Mikel Arteta's Arsenal have responded in kind.
00:13:29They have blown away Tottenham Hotspur for the second time this season.
00:13:33Make no mistake about it.
00:13:35Igor Tudor and Tottenham are in trouble.
00:13:38Their figures are absolutely desperate.
00:13:41Arsenal have a cushion at the top of the table again.
00:13:45Spurs one, Arsenal four.
00:13:50That's the beauty of football.
00:13:52When you look back at the game against Wolves, how the hell you
00:13:55draw a game there, it's just impossible to explain.
00:13:58There are no words to explain how this happened.
00:14:00But it happened and you have to leave yourself out from the floor
00:14:03because you can feel sorry for yourself.
00:14:05But the reaction of the boys immediately was extraordinary.
00:14:08And I'm not surprised what they've done today because I'm with them every day
00:14:11and I know how much they want it.
00:14:13If I may say so, I think that's your best performance in an Arsenal show.
00:14:16Would you feel the same way?
00:14:18Yeah, I think it was good.
00:14:20And then, yeah, I think I could have done a few things better.
00:14:23But yeah, it was enjoyable for me.
00:14:26A difficult game, bad result.
00:14:29Better team that beat us.
00:14:30So congratulations to them.
00:14:32A good lesson for us.
00:14:35But we need to look forward and start to work from Tuesday harder than before.
00:14:42You said the other day you are 100% convinced that Tottenham will be a Premier League team
00:14:47next season.
00:14:48You're still certain?
00:14:49Of course, of course.
00:14:50Of course I am.
00:14:51If it goes all the way to the end of the season, and it might,
00:14:55you look like a side who are up for that challenge.
00:14:57We know this is the Premier League.
00:14:59It's going to go all the way till the end, that's for sure.
00:15:01Ten games in the Premier League.
00:15:03It's a long, long marathon.
00:15:05You can see where teams are winning, where teams are not dropping points just in the
00:15:09last second, four millimetres.
00:15:11These are the margins.
00:15:12Well, it was a big response from Arsenal today.
00:15:15It had to be.
00:15:16And you've had a look, Danny, at why they got so much joy down that right-hand side.
00:15:20Was it down to them or the way Spurs set up?
00:15:23Well, it's fair to say Spurs were pretty poor at times, but Arsenal were outstanding.
00:15:27And this partnership on the right-hand side that they haven't had in recent weeks,
00:15:30of Saka in his most comfortable position, and Timber behind.
00:15:33When at its best, he's one of the best in Europe.
00:15:36And Tottenham could not cope with them today, especially in the first half.
00:15:40Time and time again.
00:15:40Now, I know this team's working on some new things with the manager,
00:15:43but some of it's basic.
00:15:45There's Timber.
00:15:46Simon's playing as a 10.
00:15:48Finds himself in a left-back position, trying to double up.
00:15:50Doesn't really want to be there.
00:15:522v1.
00:15:52Jed Spence, the wing-back.
00:15:54A little early warning for Tottenham.
00:15:57And we know how good Timber is.
00:15:58He makes all sorts of runs.
00:15:59He's a good player.
00:16:00Spence, again, caught in between.
00:16:02Saka's behind him this time.
00:16:03Sarr has left the central midfield area to come over and try and help.
00:16:07Rather, they don't know who's doing what.
00:16:09You don't want to be left one-on-one with Saka in the left-back position when you're a midfielder.
00:16:13You know, he should do better, but there's the first goal.
00:16:15And they didn't fix this problem.
00:16:17It just went on and on and on as the game, you know, got more open.
00:16:21This one, Saka inside Spence and van der Venn.
00:16:25Three centre-backs.
00:16:25Van der Venn's the left one.
00:16:27Spence is the wing-back.
00:16:28You can see Saka pointing where he wants it.
00:16:30Jed Spence is asking van der Venn.
00:16:32The communication's poor from Tottenham.
00:16:34Great ball and, again, nearly score a goal.
00:16:37Opening him up too often.
00:16:38Now, Jed Spence here.
00:16:39I don't know whether he's been told to go and press or what the messaging is,
00:16:42but if he just drops in and marks Saka, leave Sarr to close Timberdown,
00:16:48you don't get this situation.
00:16:49Because, as I said, when you're a central midfielder and you find yourself
00:16:52in full-back positions, you get a bit lost.
00:16:55And then Spence switches off.
00:16:56Timber gets in again because he's non-stop.
00:16:58He loves making runs in behind and troughs odds.
00:17:00And a lucky little deflection takes it past the post.
00:17:03More of the same second half.
00:17:04I actually felt for Jed Spence as the game went on.
00:17:06He didn't know what to do, whether it's a drop-off or press.
00:17:09The 2v1 situation again.
00:17:11A little knockdown from Rice and a bit of last-ditch defending to stop.
00:17:14Ezra getting a shot in.
00:17:15And this, if you leave Timber free, the quality he's got.
00:17:20I mean, this is a wonderful pass.
00:17:21Yeah, there's still a bit to do from Jokeres, but he's just an outstanding player.
00:17:25And they really struggled to stop that threat today.
00:17:31Didn't really know who to go, when to go.
00:17:35Poor communication, poor plan.
00:17:37I don't know.
00:17:37And Saka topped off a brilliant performance nearly with a goal.
00:17:41Ends up Ezra getting the goal.
00:17:42But that position he kept taking inside the inside right position.
00:17:46No one really sure who to get him.
00:17:48And his stats were phenomenal today.
00:17:50I mean, there's been a few question marks about him recently.
00:17:53What do they say?
00:17:54Form is temporary, class is permanent.
00:17:55He's a class operator.
00:17:57He really is.
00:17:57And I think playing him on that right side, leaving him to get on with it,
00:18:02with Timber supporting him, is where we'll see him the rest of the season.
00:18:05Because I know he played as a 10 the other day.
00:18:07There was a real energy and urgency, wasn't there?
00:18:09And the game, as you pointed out there, became quite open quite quickly.
00:18:12But there's one performance in particular you want to have a look at.
00:18:15Yeah.
00:18:15And Steve Wilson asked Victor Jokeres if that was his best game.
00:18:19Steve clearly thought it was.
00:18:20Victor did, and you'd third it.
00:18:21Yeah, I'll third it, Gabby, yeah.
00:18:22No, I really think it was a special game for him.
00:18:24You know, there's so much talk before he joined the club,
00:18:26they need an out-and-out striker.
00:18:27And I think Jokeres today really said to the Arsenal fans,
00:18:30and maybe to the Premier League, I've arrived.
00:18:32It was one of them kind of performances.
00:18:34He did everything you want from a centre-forward, he really did.
00:18:36You see here, peating on the back of Paulinho,
00:18:38today was the right-side centre-half, and of course Dragaston as well.
00:18:41You know, occupying the middle of the goal, he wins a header,
00:18:44can go anywhere, of course.
00:18:45But if you just keep an eye on him,
00:18:47his movement is, what we say, a natural centre-forward.
00:18:50He frees up space for elsewhere.
00:18:51You see here, Paulinho jumps in, creates the space down the channel,
00:18:54the left channel, and that's where he's done a lot of his good work.
00:18:56This is his first half, of course, very close to getting on the score sheet.
00:18:59We know Arsenal, brilliant from set plays.
00:19:01He's a physical threat in the air as well.
00:19:03This time Saliba should really score with that knock-back from Jokeres.
00:19:07And again, I know Danny mentioned the goal there before,
00:19:10but look at his movement here.
00:19:11His first touch makes it.
00:19:12He doesn't even look up to where the goal is.
00:19:14It's a phenomenal strike.
00:19:15Vicaru, absolutely no chance.
00:19:16And even here, later on in the game,
00:19:18he's down the side where you want him, your centre-forward.
00:19:20Keeping high up the pitch, you're away from home in a North London derby.
00:19:23It's a big game, and this is what I love as well.
00:19:25You know, Tottenham put a high press on them.
00:19:27You want your centre-forward down that side.
00:19:30Chasing loss causes sometimes at times.
00:19:32And you see Arteta, he's happy with his centre-forward.
00:19:35And this is the icing on the cake in the injury time.
00:19:38He's so strong, he's so powerful.
00:19:40Can he finish it under pressure from Gray?
00:19:42Too right he can.
00:19:43And I think that was, for me, his best performance.
00:19:45And a perfect time as well to get it on the run-in to the end of the season.
00:19:49He's scored more goals in all competitions in 2026 than any other Premier League player.
00:19:54So he really is hitting his stride, isn't he?
00:19:55At the right time for Arsenal as well.
00:19:57I'm sure they'll be delighted with his form in 2026.
00:19:59Now, you want to have another look at the disallowed goal for Spurs.
00:20:02And it's important to say it was the context of when it occurred in the game
00:20:05that you think is really important in particular.
00:20:06I mean, Arsenal fans might want to switch off now, because they won 4-1.
00:20:09But I'm just getting to a point where this could have been 2-2 in the game.
00:20:12And the only reason I wanted to look at it is because the last two games,
00:20:14Brentford away for Arsenal.
00:20:15Obviously Wolves that were, you know, mid-week there that are really poor,
00:20:18give away leads in the game.
00:20:19And I wanted to look at this.
00:20:20This is to bring it back to 2-2.
00:20:22And imagine Gabby in a North London derby as well.
00:20:25How much the stadium would erupt if this had been allowed.
00:20:27I just think it's soft.
00:20:28I mean, Peter Banks gives.
00:20:29You see Gabriel.
00:20:29You see Mwani.
00:20:31There's a coming together.
00:20:31But this is the Premier League.
00:20:32We talk about it every single week.
00:20:34It's a physical sport.
00:20:35There is coming together.
00:20:36You know, if I'm off Danny, I'm going to barge him.
00:20:38I'm going to bump him.
00:20:39And the way Gabriel's gone down, I mean,
00:20:41I don't know what they say.
00:20:42I don't want to be too strong here.
00:20:43But the BAFTAs are up the road.
00:20:44And look at his legs up in there.
00:20:45I mean, it's just, it's crazy.
00:20:47And I think Peter Banks could have let that go.
00:20:49Or even at least spoke to VAR.
00:20:51And the reason we say that, because there's another couple of examples.
00:20:53This is early in the season.
00:20:54You look at Jaro on Bassey here.
00:20:56This goal was allowed.
00:20:57This was in August.
00:20:57Yeah, this is in August, Gabby.
00:20:58And this goal was allowed.
00:21:00There's a push on the back there.
00:21:01You know, the refs gave it on the pitch.
00:21:03It's gone to VAR.
00:21:04They've said it's a goal as well.
00:21:07And there's much more of a push there, I think, than today's push,
00:21:09for example.
00:21:09I think that's a stronger push.
00:21:10And Tottenham fans will really be angry at this stage now,
00:21:13because this is Eke Tiki on Romero early in the season.
00:21:15Watch this.
00:21:16See, I don't think this is a foul in Eke Tiki's defence.
00:21:19He's got up early.
00:21:20It's a physical game.
00:21:21But that goal, that goal stands.
00:21:23Today's goal doesn't stand.
00:21:24And maybe I'm clutching a bit, because Danny Wright says Arsenal were a much better team today.
00:21:28But getting back to 2-2.
00:21:29I think it's the psychology, isn't it?
00:21:30It's the psychology in the title race.
00:21:30If it's 2-0, it's very different, isn't it?
00:21:32In the title race.
00:21:33How do the Arsenal fans react?
00:21:34I agree with you.
00:21:36I think it's something...
00:21:39You want consistency.
00:21:40Yeah.
00:21:40The reality is that, you know, if you love football and you enjoy watching it,
00:21:45you don't expect 6-4-4 centre-half to be falling over.
00:21:49But to be fair to Gabriel, he knows generally that if you get a touch in the back and you
00:21:53go over,
00:21:54you're going to get it.
00:21:54So it's a kind of chicken and egg thing, whereas the referees have got to be stronger.
00:21:59But the two examples you showed are more or less exactly the same.
00:22:03So they have a reason to feel disappointed today, I think, Tottenham.
00:22:07But Arsenal fans right now are saying,
00:22:08but we won 4-1 and we now have our five-point buffer back.
00:22:11And probably would have won anyway.
00:22:12Yeah.
00:22:12And so that five-point buffer is back.
00:22:14We don't know when that extra game that Manchester City are one game behind,
00:22:19obviously, in the table is going to be played yet hasn't been scheduled.
00:22:21We do know that City and Arsenal will play each other on the 18th of April.
00:22:26We heard Arteta there saying, you know, this is a marathon.
00:22:29Is this going down to the wire, do you think?
00:22:30It looks that way.
00:22:31I mean, you know, Man City last night is a tough game against Newcastle.
00:22:34Newcastle are strong second half.
00:22:35They come out on top, Man City.
00:22:37You can see the sort of celebrations or Pep Guardiola, you know,
00:22:40see the glint back in his eye.
00:22:41He feels that this Man City team can really pull it together,
00:22:44really push Arsenal away.
00:22:45I mean, to be fair to Arteta, he's been in the same dugout with Pep.
00:22:48He knows he's not going to give up right to the final game of the season.
00:22:51And you mentioned the game, April 18th.
00:22:53That looks like nearly like a cup final.
00:22:54Who's going to win the Premier League?
00:22:55And that's what we want, is a neutral.
00:22:56It's that weekend.
00:22:57We want it to go all the way to the wire.
00:22:58Yeah, where is that weekend?
00:22:59You in neutral.
00:22:59Yeah, I'm in neutral.
00:23:01And at the other end of the table, Spurs started the day, Danny,
00:23:04at four points off the relegation zone.
00:23:06And let's have a look at their next six fixtures,
00:23:09because they are right in it now.
00:23:11They are banging trouble, because they're so low on confidence.
00:23:15They've got very few of their best players fit.
00:23:18And they've also got to try and get, you know,
00:23:21the European campaign in, while they're tough games physically.
00:23:26A lot of these games they're going to have a chance of.
00:23:28Of course they are.
00:23:29Fulham Palace, Forest, even Liverpool can play badly at the moment.
00:23:33We've seen that.
00:23:34So, yeah, they're in a hell of a battle.
00:23:36Romero back for Liverpool.
00:23:37Other players, of course, to come back as well.
00:23:39I'm not sure who's going to get back and when.
00:23:42The reality is, it doesn't matter who's playing.
00:23:44If they're disorganised and the confidence is low
00:23:46and giving up as many chances as they are today,
00:23:48they're going to have problems.
00:23:50Spurs staying up for you?
00:23:51It's going to be tight.
00:23:52Like, they haven't won a game in the Premier League this year.
00:23:54So that's a concern.
00:23:55Tudors come in this week.
00:23:57You know, it was a heavy defeat today in the North.
00:23:58It's the worst possible start for him.
00:24:00And as Danny Wright says, them fixtures on paper look easy.
00:24:03But the way they're playing,
00:24:04they're decimated by injuries at the minute.
00:24:05So, I'll say, yeah, but it's going to be close, I think.
00:24:08Yeah, I think just about.
00:24:10OK.
00:24:11There's a long way to go yet, of course.
00:24:13Nottingham Forest also have a new man in charge.
00:24:16We've said that a few times, of course, this season.
00:24:18Vitor Pereira took over at the City ground last week
00:24:21following the sacking of Sean Dyche.
00:24:22Forest were looking for their first league double
00:24:25over Liverpool in 63 years.
00:24:27Mark Scott, watch this one.
00:24:30First the points, then the pints became Vitor Pereira's catchphrase at Wolves.
00:24:35And he says his post-match tradition of a beer with the fans after a good result
00:24:40will continue at the City ground.
00:24:43His first game in charge was certainly worthy of a toast,
00:24:46as Forest slapped Fenerbahce 3-0 in Turkey on Thursday.
00:24:50So it's no surprise that he goes with the same starting line-up today.
00:24:54Liverpool were forced into a late change
00:24:57after Florian Vietz picked up an injury in the warm-up.
00:25:00Gravenberg takes his place,
00:25:02while Eketike takes over from Chiesa up top
00:25:05in their other change from the cup win against Brighton.
00:25:11Forest unbeaten in their last three league games against Liverpool, winning two of them.
00:25:17Curtis Jones, hassled by Sankare, no foul.
00:25:21Sankare can loft it forwards handily, Hudson-Odoi is in!
00:25:25Big save from Alisson, and Hudson-Odoi can't do anything with the rebound.
00:25:30Hudson-Odoi did well to wriggle clear of Sir Bosley,
00:25:33but Alisson made himself big.
00:25:35First major chance of the game goes Nottingham Forest's way.
00:25:41Vitor Pereira's appointment sees Forest set a new record today,
00:25:44the first club to have four different permanent managers
00:25:47within the same Premier League season.
00:25:53Jones, that was risky, Anderson onto it,
00:25:56and he's gone for it, and he wasn't far away.
00:26:00Only the one goal this season for Elliot Anderson,
00:26:02but had the confidence to take this on,
00:26:04and it had Alisson slightly concerned.
00:26:09Ola Aina.
00:26:14Hutchinson.
00:26:16Oh, slip through for Igor Jesus, and that's a vital touch
00:26:19from Virgil van Dijk.
00:26:21He rolled away from Canate, but couldn't get clear of Virgil van Dijk,
00:26:26who timed it impeccably.
00:26:30Hutchinson.
00:26:40Gibbs White.
00:26:43Hutchinson chasing and kept it in.
00:26:47Elliot Anderson.
00:26:48Good area.
00:26:49Good try.
00:26:51Just a bit too much height.
00:26:54Just wouldn't drop quickly enough for here more Nottingham Forest.
00:26:58Another nearly moment for the home side.
00:27:01We've had a handful of those in this first half.
00:27:07Liverpool dreadful in the first half.
00:27:09The only good news for them is that the score is still 0-0.
00:27:14Anderson.
00:27:16Hudson-Odoi.
00:27:18Useful!
00:27:20And wide from Milenkovic.
00:27:23Hasn't scored in the Premier League this season, Milenkovic.
00:27:26She arrived at just the right time, but couldn't get just the right contact.
00:27:30Not far away.
00:27:35Canate.
00:27:37Slips out to Cody Gakpo.
00:27:42Going the long way round Gakpo, but he's found Salafarsdik.
00:27:46Intelligent and saved by Ortega.
00:27:49Jones denied.
00:27:50After 54 minutes, Liverpool finally have their first shot on target.
00:27:55And it's a good save from Ortega to prevent Curtis Jones scoring in back-to-back matches.
00:28:03Canate.
00:28:04Another poor touch from a Liverpool player.
00:28:06Gravenberg lets it get away from him.
00:28:09Sankare shuffled across to Hutchinson.
00:28:13Omari Hutchinson.
00:28:15Needs some support.
00:28:17Gets it from Aina.
00:28:18Who gets the ball in and onto the roof of the net.
00:28:22But it's the kind of game where you feel that something like that might be the difference maker.
00:28:27It's been a match lacking in quality.
00:28:29But this almost found its way in.
00:28:33Salah has been taken off and that means it's now nine Premier League games without a goal for him.
00:28:38The first time that has ever happened in the division for him.
00:28:42Not been one of his better days, but you can say that for most of the Liverpool team.
00:28:47Dominguez.
00:28:50Here goes Nico Williams.
00:28:55Williams' cross is good.
00:28:56Alisson stretching didn't get there.
00:28:58Gibbs White!
00:29:00And Sankare!
00:29:02It's gonna game low on excitement, but the Forest fans on their feet here.
00:29:07Alisson made a mess of it.
00:29:09Gibbs White's effort blocked well by Robertson.
00:29:11And Sankare then dragged it narrowly wide.
00:29:22Canate's wrestled that back.
00:29:24Here's Rio and Gamoa.
00:29:28And Gamoa stands it up nicely.
00:29:30Must be.
00:29:30Oh, what a save.
00:29:32Stefan will take off.
00:29:33It's in.
00:29:34Would you believe it?
00:29:36Liverpool have surely won it.
00:29:39With a truly bizarre goal!
00:29:42Eketike has to score from there.
00:29:44Got to give Ortega credit for the save, but it's a poor header.
00:29:47But he gets lucky as the clearance from Ola Aina smacks into Alexis McAllister
00:29:55and then rebounds into the net.
00:29:58Well, there may be a reprieve.
00:30:00The view is it's off Alexis McAllister's elbow.
00:30:05So therefore it's handball, no goal.
00:30:07Here comes confirmation.
00:30:10Biggest cheer of the day.
00:30:13It would have been so cruel on Forest.
00:30:17And the goal is struck out.
00:30:18And I think Alexis McAllister was trying to convince them that it was off the pack.
00:30:24Disappointment for Arna Slott.
00:30:26But it's the right call.
00:30:29Williams.
00:30:31Sankare.
00:30:32Here's Dan and Toy.
00:30:33Good work by Gomez.
00:30:34Sankare!
00:30:36Well, that was travelling.
00:30:38Had it been on target, Alisson would have had a job on his hands to ensure that the ball ended
00:30:43up in them.
00:30:47Dominguez away, only as far as Gomez.
00:30:50It's a Liverpool throw.
00:30:52Might be the last meaningful action of the game.
00:30:58Soboslai.
00:31:00Forrest were expecting the long throw.
00:31:03Soboslai now looks a bit short of ideas.
00:31:05He's clipped it in handily.
00:31:07He's clipped it in handily.
00:31:07Eketike waited.
00:31:08Oh, it's gone across goal.
00:31:09McAllister!
00:31:12Right at the end!
00:31:15Alexis McAllister breaks Forrest's hearts.
00:31:18And this one will surely count.
00:31:21Vitor Pereira cannot believe it.
00:31:27But there will be another check.
00:31:30And Forrest might be bailed out again.
00:31:33And now the big question is whether Virgil van Dijk was offside.
00:31:38His header half cleared by Murillo.
00:31:41McAllister pounced.
00:31:43But now it's back to Paul Tierney in the replay's room again.
00:31:49And a game that had been a real bore suddenly has an exciting conclusion.
00:31:56The goal is good.
00:31:58And Liverpool have won it.
00:32:00And Alexis McAllister can celebrate.
00:32:04Well, here's what the technology has discerned.
00:32:08A toenail ensures Van Dijk is on.
00:32:12And Liverpool are on course for the win.
00:32:18A late, late show from Liverpool.
00:32:21As Vitor Pereira is left to rue.
00:32:25A point at least that has gone away in his first Premier League game in charge.
00:32:31First half, I'm not sure I've seen you as poor as that this season.
00:32:35What do you think that was down to?
00:32:37That's exactly what I said at half-time.
00:32:39That I haven't seen us playing so poor.
00:32:41But I think we played a much better second half.
00:32:44Teams were really tight.
00:32:46And in the end, we were the lucky one scoring.
00:32:50Twice, by the way, in extra time.
00:32:52But only one was allowed.
00:32:53I saw you pointing at your back for the first one that you scored.
00:32:57Did it come off your back or your elbow?
00:33:00It hit both my elbow and my back.
00:33:03That's why I think it was a bit harsh.
00:33:04But I understand the rules.
00:33:06I feel like the decision is fair.
00:33:08But if you think about football, I feel like that goal should have stood.
00:33:12Very, very frustrated.
00:33:14You know, because the way that we play the first half creating chance.
00:33:19And playing, pressing them, not conceding nothing, in my opinion, one point was the minimum.
00:33:29Zero points is, you know, is football.
00:33:32Not fair today.
00:33:33Well, Slott kind of summed it up, didn't he?
00:33:36Lucky and kind of got away with it there, really.
00:33:39Yeah.
00:33:39Did you ever have that feeling when you left a pitch, thinking...
00:33:41A few times, yeah.
00:33:43Yeah, I mean, it just was so flat first half, it really was.
00:33:46It felt like Arna Slott's gone at half-time, had given him a rocket at half-time.
00:33:49And the second half was much, much better.
00:33:51But I can't put my finger on why they were so flat, so poor.
00:33:54So many performances below power in the first half.
00:33:56Well, I think the thing was, they were physically poor.
00:33:59Which is amazing, considering they had a week's rest.
00:34:02And Forest played on Thursday.
00:34:03But mentality, you know, I mean, talking about experienced players,
00:34:07lack of concentration, poor decision-making, poor passing.
00:34:10You know, so unlike Liverpool.
00:34:12I mean, they've been better in the last couple of months, the odd bad performance.
00:34:15But this was, they got away with one.
00:34:17It was really poor first half.
00:34:19I mean, Van Dijk, we know how wonderful a player he is.
00:34:22But even he was making mistakes.
00:34:23Sloppy little pass.
00:34:24Got away with this one early on, but it kind of set the tone.
00:34:27And you were just waiting for Liverpool to wake up, and they didn't.
00:34:30Sangari was terrific.
00:34:31Winning the ball back.
00:34:32Jones losing the ball there too easily.
00:34:35So Bosley, who's trying to edge forward there,
00:34:37because he's not used to playing.
00:34:38Well, he's played right back a few times,
00:34:39but he wants to get forward, doesn't he, rather than defend.
00:34:43Van Dijk, another sloppy ball.
00:34:46So Bosley does his best with it, whacks it clear.
00:34:49Then losing the duel in the middle of the pitch.
00:34:51Poor touch.
00:34:52Elliot Anderson this time coming close.
00:34:54He was terrific this afternoon as well.
00:34:56And they didn't seem to learn.
00:34:58I mean, Alisson's the coolest goalkeeper in the Prem, or one of.
00:35:00And even he was at it.
00:35:01It was infectious.
00:35:02It was spreading throughout the team.
00:35:04And when you think of how big a game it was, and what happened with Chelsea yesterday.
00:35:08Salah losing the ball.
00:35:09Struggled at times today again.
00:35:11Straight onto the Liverpool back line.
00:35:13Hard when you keep losing the ball.
00:35:14The forwards weren't getting any ball at all in the first half.
00:35:17Giving it away again in their own box.
00:35:19Last-ditch block there to stop Gibbs-White.
00:35:22But second half was much better.
00:35:24Intensity was better.
00:35:25Obviously, Shea said they had a rocket.
00:35:28Won the ball.
00:35:28Won more duels.
00:35:29Got more men in the box.
00:35:31And then early in the second half, Jones got himself in and switched to right back at this point.
00:35:36It's a wonderful save.
00:35:36Look, there's the numbers in the box.
00:35:38And again, you see the next clip in the second.
00:35:41Just players brighter, sharper, playing through the lines.
00:35:46Little flicks around the corner.
00:35:48Keeping the ball better.
00:35:50More urgency.
00:35:51More intent.
00:35:51Just a lot better in the second half.
00:35:53And they were fortunate that they went in 0-0 half-time and were able to, you know,
00:35:57try and go and win the game.
00:35:58And this was a poor one from Salah.
00:35:59But they were much better second-half, Shea.
00:36:01Yeah.
00:36:01I think Engelmoor came off the bench as well.
00:36:03He made a difference, didn't he?
00:36:04He was really sharp off the bench, the young man.
00:36:06He is brilliant, yeah.
00:36:07This is obviously late in the game.
00:36:09And they thought they've sneaked the winner.
00:36:10Here he is in the wing.
00:36:11He was very sharp, very positive getting, you know, getting at the full-back.
00:36:15Nico here.
00:36:16And watch this in the middle of the box here.
00:36:17McAllister thinks he scored.
00:36:18It's a brilliant save from Ortega, to be fair.
00:36:21And then, to be fair, McAllister turns his back on it.
00:36:23You know, Ina should have cleared, or at least headed to clear.
00:36:25Big Canadi does a somersault, thinks he's won the game.
00:36:27Not quite a somersault.
00:36:28Well, it's a somersault, yeah.
00:36:29It's not lua-lua territory, but it's Canadi territory.
00:36:32But again, this is the 97th minute.
00:36:34They thought, and Forrest, you've got a feel for Forrest at this point, but did take nothing away from Sabousley.
00:36:38He's had a phenomenal season.
00:36:39I know Liverpool have dipped, but this guy's gone up a level.
00:36:41He's just awesome.
00:36:42Perfect ball into the box.
00:36:44Van Dijk with a header.
00:36:45And I think Murillo and Ortega get mixed up.
00:36:47But credit to McAllister.
00:36:48Again, this is the offside.
00:36:49We all thought it was offside.
00:36:50We couldn't see Ina around the back.
00:36:51He's playing him onside.
00:36:52And McAllister, again, we know he likes to get in the box, Gabby.
00:36:55And he follows it up with the goal.
00:36:58And it's a very late one, but one, he'll love it when he watches it back.
00:37:01And there's the stats itself.
00:37:02I mean, these speak for themselves, don't they?
00:37:04The first half performance was horrendous.
00:37:06So, lots agree with that, horrendous.
00:37:08And then second half was absolutely brilliant.
00:37:10Well, not absolutely brilliant, but it's gone up a level, let's be honest.
00:37:12It's all relative, isn't it?
00:37:13Yeah.
00:37:13I mean, those stats would say a marked improvement in the second half.
00:37:16But there's a lot for Pereira to be positive about with Forrest.
00:37:20Not the start he wanted.
00:37:21In fact, you have to go back to 1997.
00:37:23Dave Bassett, for a Premier League manager for Forrest,
00:37:25to win their opening league game as manager.
00:37:28So, he's following in a long line here.
00:37:29He is, I mean, but he will, after the disappointment,
00:37:32watch that back and see a lot of good things from his team,
00:37:35especially after playing Thursday evening.
00:37:37The two central midfield boys were outstanding and dominated the game,
00:37:40especially in the first half.
00:37:41You know, caused Liverpool a lot of problems with and without the ball, actually.
00:37:45You can see the numbers here.
00:37:47They were a real plus for him.
00:37:48And all you could say with Forrest, really,
00:37:51is that little lack of quality in the final third at times is hindering them.
00:37:56The rest of it looked really good.
00:37:58Of course, late in the game, they come under a bit of pressure.
00:38:00Playing Liverpool, it's going to happen.
00:38:02But overall, that performance from Forrest, I think, to me,
00:38:06that looks like a team who are going to stay up.
00:38:08They're two points above the relegation zone.
00:38:11You've said that with quite a bit of certainty compared to the debate.
00:38:13You can't say it. He's gone early.
00:38:15Yeah, he's gone early.
00:38:16I mean, it's going to be close, I think.
00:38:18Nottingham Forrest, I mean, the fourth manager this season.
00:38:20You know, the owner has put his money in his pocket,
00:38:22but you're talking four different managers, four different voices
00:38:25and times four different systems.
00:38:27So it's not all perfect, but brilliant result against, you know,
00:38:29Fernand Bacci midweek.
00:38:30And they played well today as well, so they might be all right, Dan.
00:38:33And, of course, with Wolves in the situation that they're in
00:38:37and if they are headed for the drop and West Ham, of course, as well,
00:38:41you've got Pereira, potentially a manager who could be taking two teams down
00:38:45or could be involved in two teams going down this season.
00:38:48Nobody's done that before.
00:38:49Well, he won't want to be that one, will he?
00:38:51Because it's a hell of a bad record.
00:38:53And then Nuno, of course, the reason I mention West Ham, of course, is Nuno.
00:38:55Yeah, I think what you can see in those two games is that the players
00:38:59are certainly on board with what he's asking them to do.
00:39:01The energy's good.
00:39:02You know, they looked quite confident for a team who were fighting relegation.
00:39:05Normally, you can sense a bit of nerves and there's, you know,
00:39:08a bit of tentative play and players not taking responsibility.
00:39:11I didn't see that today.
00:39:13Confidence for Forrest.
00:39:15OK.
00:39:16After a last gasp midweek draw for Wolves against Arsenal,
00:39:20Rob Edwards men travelled to a Crystal Palace side winless at home in eight.
00:39:23Chris White was at Selhurst Park.
00:39:27There is a hazy air of uncertainty around Crystal Palace.
00:39:31Even putting aside the lingering fear of being sucked into a relegation fight.
00:39:36These Palace fans aren't even sure their manager's now going to be with them
00:39:40until the end of the season.
00:39:42Rob de Klaasler is short of options today, particularly in his defence.
00:39:45Lacroix and Lerma are now absent.
00:39:48And in only his third Premier League game in Crystal Palace colours,
00:39:52Jürgen Strand Larsson faces the pack he left behind.
00:39:56Wolves played an unlikely role in the title race a few days ago.
00:40:00One change from the side that startled Arsenal.
00:40:02Tolu Orokodare starts.
00:40:04Angel Gomez is on the bench.
00:40:10Rob Edwards has been talking about the good energy around Wolves at the moment
00:40:13after that draw with Arsenal during the week.
00:40:16Says his team have shown a lot of character recently.
00:40:20One mistake by Mosquera.
00:40:22And Jeremy Pino is in and he's locked Jose Saar, but he's missed.
00:40:27Well, you could see exactly what Pino was trying to do.
00:40:30Because Saar was a long way off his goal line there.
00:40:33Mosquera got that horribly wrong.
00:40:35He didn't get the technique right, did he, there, Pino?
00:40:44And Andre quick in on Jeremy Pino, because the ball to him wasn't great.
00:40:49Here's Adam Armstrong.
00:40:51This is Mane.
00:40:52And Mane's pulled over by Cambo.
00:40:54That's going to be a yellow card for the Palace defender.
00:40:59It was just too quick for him, shifted the ball one way.
00:41:02He managed to use his body well.
00:41:06Wolves asking questions of this relatively untried Crystal Palace defence.
00:41:14Pino and Belgaard, the two Wolves players over the free kick.
00:41:18Belgaard's got it beyond the wall, but not beyond the hands of Henderson,
00:41:21who pushes it away for a corner.
00:41:24Everything covered appropriately in the end, the Palace goalkeeper.
00:41:29This has been the case for quite a few games now.
00:41:32This does not look like a team that are at the bottom of the Premier League.
00:41:36Mosquera's having to retreat here.
00:41:38Strand Larsen's got to it ahead of him.
00:41:41Strand Larsen, look by Mosquera.
00:41:44What's Munoz going to do?
00:41:45He's going to leave it.
00:41:46Leave it for a Palace corner.
00:41:49Life all of a sudden in Palace's forward line.
00:41:52He's been on the periphery of this game so far, Jürgen Strand Larsen,
00:41:55but he was the one trying to make it happen there.
00:41:59Crystal Palace bodies beyond Jose Saar at that far post,
00:42:04and Hughes' ball has gone to the near post.
00:42:06That's really well worked, and Pino's hit the post.
00:42:10How unfortunate is that from Jeremy Pino and from Crystal Palace,
00:42:13who got that set-piece absolutely right.
00:42:17Maybe the only problem in all of that is that Pino didn't connect with it
00:42:21as well as he would have liked.
00:42:26Trying to go this fully away from Wharton.
00:42:28Armstrong turns it round the corner quickly.
00:42:31Belgaard hits it, it's come off Richards,
00:42:33and Henderson had to do something about it.
00:42:37Because that was looping up and over the Palace goalkeeper and in,
00:42:40had he not got fingertips to it.
00:42:50And that's going to be a Wolves penalty, surely.
00:42:54It is. Mane has tripped.
00:42:59Just very desperate defending all round from Crystal Palace.
00:43:06Santalu, Orikadare.
00:43:08For a Wolves team that have not won away from home in the Premier League all season.
00:43:16Orikadare, and Henderson saves it.
00:43:21I think he made up his mind exactly where he was going to go,
00:43:24and Henderson knew that.
00:43:27Wolves blow a huge opportunity
00:43:30to give themselves a massive moment in this Premier League season
00:43:34that they have been without throughout.
00:43:44Asar breaking beyond Wolves' defence.
00:43:48Beyond Krejci, though.
00:43:50They're going to be leaning on Ismail Asar now to bring that directness to this Palace team
00:43:55that's really been lacking from the performance today.
00:43:58It's him at the end of it again, but it's only as far as Mitchell,
00:44:01and that was creeping towards the top corner of Saar's goal.
00:44:06Feeding on very little in this game, Crystal Palace, and it was a moment.
00:44:13Free kick, one by Ismail Asar.
00:44:18A card as well for the offender, Ladislav Krejci, who is slowly hooking himself up to see the colour of
00:44:26the cards.
00:44:29I'm sure he would have heard the chance during the week in that game out of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
00:44:34He came from some sections of that away Palace support in months last week since Crystal Palace's FA Cup success.
00:44:45Strap Larsson going after it, Krejci feeling the company and feeling it enough that he's not only conceded the throw,
00:44:54he's also in trouble here.
00:44:55Ladislav Krejci, he's on a yellow card, he's kicked the ball away and Ladislav Krejci receives the most unnecessary second
00:45:04yellow.
00:45:05In one previous season with Sparta Prague, Ladislav Krejci got five red cards in a single season.
00:45:13He's got one for Wolves today, and Rob Edwards' team trying to hold on to any threads they can of
00:45:20hope,
00:45:21and that is going to be extinguished, it would seem.
00:45:30At least those substitutes that have come on for Palace are livening things up in the forward line.
00:45:35Wharton for Munoz, back to Wharton again.
00:45:39Wolves with ten behind the ball, all on the edge of their area or in it.
00:45:43Low by Mitchell, gets on!
00:45:47Right on the 90-minute mark.
00:45:52That is the moment to score your first Premier League goal for Crystal Palace.
00:46:01And surely it ends this long, winless home run for Palace.
00:46:11The resilience of Wolves cracked at the last.
00:46:20Last time they saw a win here, November the 1st, when Brentford were beaten.
00:46:29Wolves edging closer to the inevitable.
00:46:32The weekend passing by for Rob Edwards' team without an away win in the Premier League.
00:46:39Obviously the two big moments, the penalty miss and then the sending off,
00:46:41have shaped the game in the end, unfortunately.
00:46:44But it feels harsh today, but that is football.
00:46:46I feel like we deserved a lot more from a really good performance,
00:46:49a really hard-working performance.
00:46:50I think the fans could see that at the end.
00:46:52That's why they were with the lads at the end when we were over to say thank you.
00:46:54Fans were brilliant today.
00:46:55So that was, you know, a lot to take from it, but very frustrating as well.
00:46:59What sort of reaction do you think you got from the Crystal Palace fans today?
00:47:05For me, it's important that they support the team and they did it.
00:47:08This is what they always did since I am here.
00:47:10I just can't speak for the last two years.
00:47:12And when I arrived, the club was in a very bad situation and felt support from the first day.
00:47:19You said last week that you weren't sure whether you were going to still be the
00:47:23Crystal Palace manager in the weeks ahead.
00:47:25I know you've already said you're leaving at the end of the season.
00:47:27Has that changed over the weekend?
00:47:29For me, Oliver Glasner is not important.
00:47:31It's Crystal Palace that is important.
00:47:34And if the club had thought they need a change, then I don't want to be in the way, yeah?
00:47:39That's what I meant.
00:47:41We had the best two years in Crystal Palace history, yeah?
00:47:43And then it's not so easy also for a club to say, hey, I think it's better you leave.
00:47:47The most important thing is Crystal Palace, yeah?
00:47:49And I'm here to give 100% to be successful for Crystal Palace.
00:47:55So maybe now it's clearer.
00:47:57Well, we'll get on to Glasner in a moment.
00:47:59But first of all, you want to have another look at a Rocket Diaries penalty.
00:48:04Obviously, Dean Henderson's got a very good record.
00:48:06He's saved four this season.
00:48:08Nobody else has saved more in the Premier League.
00:48:09So your technique's going to have to be spot on to play him.
00:48:12Yeah, I felt for him because he had a bit of an off day, in a sense, with the chances
00:48:15as well before this.
00:48:16He didn't look like he was full of confidence.
00:48:17And it's a really poor penalty.
00:48:18And the thing about Wolves as well, they were playing really well in the game.
00:48:21You know, they get their nose in front.
00:48:23This is the first half.
00:48:24Let's be honest, it's a comfortable save from Dean Henderson.
00:48:26Yes, if he goes the wrong way, it's a goal.
00:48:28But a Rocket Diaries has got to be more confident.
00:48:30We look at the people who took penalties in the past for them.
00:48:33Krejci took...
00:48:34He was taking them for Sparta Prague.
00:48:36He took 13 and scored 12.
00:48:38Yeah, Adam Armstrong as well is on the pitch.
00:48:40You're looking at other players on the pitch who've got a record of scoring score.
00:48:42He's scored 17 out of 23.
00:48:44So there's, I just, he's missed his last three.
00:48:47So today he's missed the last four penalties in a row.
00:48:49You know, the three previous ones, and it's just...
00:48:52But he's a striker, so he's going to want to take it.
00:48:54Yeah.
00:48:54That you have to admire.
00:48:55But the coach, Rob Edwards, I mean, you know, whether he knew, he should know.
00:49:00And you can't let someone keep taking penalties if they're missing him.
00:49:02I know it wasn't for Wolves, but the reality is when there's players on the pitch
00:49:05with a good record on penalties, they should take them.
00:49:07Yeah, he'd missed his last three for Genk.
00:49:10And Krejci, who we mentioned there, who was obviously a decent penalty taker,
00:49:13was sent off second yellow card.
00:49:16You felt perhaps a little bit unfair.
00:49:19A little bit harsh.
00:49:19Kicking the ball away, but there was mitigating circumstances.
00:49:21Tom Kirk, the referee, there's lots of glowing terms
00:49:24on how well he's performed as a referee.
00:49:25He's only his third game, I think.
00:49:26And he's sent three people off, three red cards in three games.
00:49:29But I actually think Krejci's a bit unlucky here.
00:49:32You know, this is his second yellow card.
00:49:34We heard the whistle going off there, Gabby.
00:49:35We did.
00:49:35But if you watch this sort of the close-up of him,
00:49:37he thinks the ball's still in play.
00:49:39He's focused in the zone.
00:49:39That's the Crystal Palace thing, where it was quite lively behind the goal there.
00:49:43It's quite noisy in a sense.
00:49:44It's like, I just think it's harsh.
00:49:46It's 1.5 seconds, I think, between the whistle and him kicking the ball away.
00:49:50Watch Stran Larsson here as well.
00:49:52He goes to block it.
00:49:53If he actually blocks this, I don't think he gets a second yellow card.
00:49:56That's on the hour mark.
00:49:57He's not looking at the linesman.
00:49:58He thinks the ball's still in play.
00:50:00I don't know.
00:50:00Tom Kirk might look back and talk with a bit more experience.
00:50:02Maybe I could have let him stay on the pitch, perhaps.
00:50:05Just a wee bit harsher felt.
00:50:06And Rob Edwards acknowledged that that really did change it for them.
00:50:08Because Wolves had, you know, obviously a big lift, didn't they?
00:50:10Coming back as they did against Arsenal and came into this game
00:50:13full of confidence from them.
00:50:15Yeah, they did.
00:50:15And they played some good stuff.
00:50:16And it did change the whole game.
00:50:19And they'll be really disappointed.
00:50:21But for Palace, it was a massive boost because they were desperate for a win.
00:50:24Does this calm things down a little bit with the whole Oliver Glasner question?
00:50:28I think it does.
00:50:29I mean, obviously, we know what's happening now.
00:50:31We know what's gone on in terms of losing their best players.
00:50:33And he said he's going to leave.
00:50:34But I think he deserves the respect and the right to stay till the end of the season,
00:50:39what he's done for the football club.
00:50:40A small section of fans were expressing their disquiet, obviously, with some banners.
00:50:45And overall, though, do you get the sense that the fans generally, you know,
00:50:51they're delighted with their last two years that they've had.
00:50:53And he acknowledged that, didn't he?
00:50:54That, you know, this is the best two years in the club's history.
00:50:56He is going in the summer.
00:50:58The board have said that he's the man they want to lead them through to the summer.
00:51:02So does everybody just need to kind of take him over here?
00:51:04It's a shame that you think the way it's ending.
00:51:05But, you know, as you said, the most successful period in Palace's history.
00:51:09And it's ending like this.
00:51:09You know, every week he's saying a few things he shouldn't say as a manager.
00:51:12And it should end better.
00:51:13It should be like nearly a statue outside of Crystal Palace because he's done so well.
00:51:17I think a lot of Crystal Palace fans are grateful to him for what he's done.
00:51:20And although there's been some discrepancies along the way in recent months,
00:51:24most of them are very grateful for the times he's given.
00:51:26And they are very grateful for the win today as well because that has also settled things down.
00:51:32Right. Plenty more sport for you across the BBC this week.
00:51:35Mark Chapman and guests will have the last word on the weekend on the Monday nightclub
00:51:39from 7 tomorrow on 5 Live.
00:51:41BBC Sounds, iPlayer and YouTube.
00:51:44Highlights of the second legs of the Champions League knockout playoffs
00:51:46from 10.40 on Wednesday night here on BBC One.
00:51:49Michael Carrick is the latest subject of the football interview that's available now on iPlayer.
00:51:54And you can catch up with everything from these past two days.
00:51:58Match of the day and individual highlights of every Premier League game.
00:52:01They're all available right now on iPlayer.
00:52:04Two points and two places separated Sunderland and Fulham at the start of the day,
00:52:08with the Londoners on a run of three straight defeats in the league.
00:52:12Commentary comes from Alistair Mann.
00:52:15Having given up their proud unbeaten home record to Liverpool last time out,
00:52:19Sunderland will be keen to rekindle their form,
00:52:22particularly given the enticing prospect of moving up to eighth,
00:52:26while overtaking Newcastle in the process, should they win.
00:52:30Their only change to that Liverpool defeat sees Ivorian winger
00:52:33Joselan Tabi make his Premier League debut.
00:52:37Marco Silva was sufficiently pleased with his size performance in the defeat at Manchester City
00:52:41in their last league game, that he makes just one enforced alteration,
00:52:45with record signing Kevin replacing the injured Samuel Chukwazy.
00:52:50They are seeking their first Premier League away win of 2026.
00:52:55Fulham, who won 1-0 in the reverse game in November,
00:52:59are today seeking their first lead double over Sunderland in 23 years.
00:53:07Berger, Iwobi, Kevin, that was a shot, you know, Kevin in a really good position here.
00:53:17The only post he ended up getting close to was the corner flag.
00:53:25Berger, Iwobi, Smith-Rowe, Sessegnon, good fuller move!
00:53:30Oh, it deserved better than the finish from Sessegnon.
00:53:35Flowing from Fulham, that's more what they're about.
00:53:38Smith-Rowe back to Sessegnon, and he bent it round the angle of post and bar.
00:53:48Foul by Jimenez, he doesn't like that decision,
00:53:51he's going to like even less the yellow card that accompanies it.
00:53:56Forearm into the face of Ballard.
00:54:03Foul by Jimenez.
00:54:04Jimenez has just gone up with Alderete, he was booked earlier,
00:54:08he's going to have to be careful here.
00:54:10You can hear what the home supporters feel should be the outcome.
00:54:13Jimenez is perplexed, says, I've done nothing wrong.
00:54:20Mundell, tackle by Tete, here's Hulme.
00:54:23And to slip it through to Angelo, seen by Sessegnon, on it goes to Mundell, who misses.
00:54:31What a glorious opening, a game of few clear-cut chances and Mundell has just fluffed the best of them.
00:54:40Brilliant from Gautrada, Mundell puts it wide.
00:54:46It's a good ball, Anderson to Wilson.
00:54:51Jimenez, Iwobi, oh, and it hit the leg of Hulme, that was going in.
00:54:57But Hulme stuck out a boot and diverted it out for the corner.
00:55:01And all of a sudden, at the start of the second half, good chances at both ends.
00:55:08Iwobi delivers, Jimenez scores.
00:55:13Well, it was his goal that beat Sunderland at Craven Cottage in November.
00:55:18With so few clear-cut openings, might it be Jimenez that settles this contest as well?
00:55:23The delivery, the header, simplicity itself.
00:55:28In a game of so few clear-cut openings, Jimenez nudges Fulham in front.
00:55:38Wilson, caught by Hulme, free-kick to Fulham.
00:55:47Hulme's puzzled reaction tells you he doesn't believe that was a foul.
00:55:52Just clipped the heel of Wilson.
00:55:56So, Fulham free-kick, having just taken the lead from a set-piece.
00:56:02Wilson delivers, Bassey goes down, punched away by Roofs.
00:56:07Bassey is absolutely certain that should be a penalty.
00:56:13Robby pulls the shirt of Bassey.
00:56:16They might just call Craig Pawson to the screen here.
00:56:23I just think he'll have to give it, I just don't think he's got a choice.
00:56:27The final decision is a penalty kick to Fulham.
00:56:30Yep, confirmed as a penalty.
00:56:36And then the space of just a few minutes here in the second half.
00:56:41Jimenez has the chance to give Fulham a handsome lead.
00:56:46And he waited for the weight to shift the other way, and tucked it in the other corner.
00:56:51And Raul Jimenez now scores twice in just a few minutes, and Fulham have control here.
00:56:56And once Roofs has shifted his weight one way, Jimenez put it in the other.
00:57:02Fulham, Hulham, Hulham, Le Fay.
00:57:07Trying to find Mundell, but Wilson got a foot in.
00:57:10Smith-Rowe, Berger, Sunderland win it back.
00:57:14Mundell, Robby, Angelo puts it over the bar.
00:57:24Angelo hitting it towards the goal, and I do think Leno just claws this one over the bar.
00:57:33Towards Ballard.
00:57:39Oh, battling away to try and make something of it, then goes over, penalty.
00:57:45Sunderland with her way back in.
00:57:48All because of Ballard's determination.
00:57:51Holds off Bob, holds off Sessegnon, pull to the floor, penalty.
00:57:59Le Fay against Bernd Leno.
00:58:04Two off!
00:58:07And the stadium of light believes.
00:58:12Enzo Le Fay, usually deadly accurate from the spot.
00:58:17And this, consistent with that ruthlessness from 12 yards.
00:58:25Siddiqui.
00:58:28Cleared, here's Wilson.
00:58:33Scampering forward, and it's three on two with the pace of Wilson.
00:58:37And the ball through is a good one to Iwobi, and Iwobi makes it 3-1.
00:58:44A brilliant counter-attack from Fulham.
00:58:47Wilson outstanding, Iwobi's finish delicate.
00:58:51And with Sunderland having built a platform for a recovery,
00:58:56they're back to two in arrears.
00:58:59Wilson gets the ball, and Iwobi and Oscar Bobb
00:59:05trying to take defenders out of the way.
00:59:08Wilson into Iwobi, and the finish over Roofs is outstanding.
00:59:15And Fulham once again on target for a win, just as Sunderland began to feel that they could get something
00:59:22from the game.
00:59:23When they pulled it back to 2-1, the crowd was up, the place was bouncing.
00:59:27How pleased were you with the way that your character came to the fore?
00:59:30That was the moment that we showed quality, maturity,
00:59:35confusion, organisation, and the braveness.
00:59:39Those are the important moments that you have to really step up, and we did it.
00:59:44Facts are clear.
00:59:46We are struggling a bit at the moment with injuries, with lack of quality sometimes,
00:59:54but the team spirit is still there.
00:59:56We still have this ambition to get better, and we want to win points.
01:00:00And when it's not the case, we're not happy.
01:00:02A really good counter-attack goal.
01:00:04How pleased were you with that little dink over the keeper?
01:00:06Yeah, I mean, I was happy.
01:00:07I didn't expect him to play me, because H is in great form, and normally when H shoots,
01:00:12it's usually a goal, so for him to play that great pass in my hand,
01:00:15and I see where the keeper's position, I just literally tried to lift it over him.
01:00:19So, yeah, it was a good goal, good counter-attack.
01:00:21It was a lot of running, but the many things I was able to put the ball in the back
01:00:25of the net.
01:00:25They started the day with Sunderland in 12th, and Fulham in 10th going into this one,
01:00:29and they are two teams who've had much better form, haven't they?
01:00:33And wanted to kind of arrest a slide.
01:00:35More understandable for Sunderland, they've had a wonderful season, exceeded expectation.
01:00:40The one thing with Fulham, you do get the ups and downs, but they're a good watch.
01:00:44You know, I've got a lot of friends who still go to the game and at the games,
01:00:46and generally they're so pleased with the type of football they're seeing under Marco Silva.
01:00:52The only negative at the moment is because he's not signing the new deal,
01:00:55the feeling is that he's probably going to move on, which I think will be a real shame,
01:01:00because I think he's really established Fulham as a good Premier League club,
01:01:04who are good to watch and improves players, so ideally he'd like him to stay,
01:01:09but like most Fulham fans would, but I don't think it's going to happen.
01:01:12Well, on for Fulham, Alex Iwobi caught the eye for you, didn't he?
01:01:16He was the performer you want to have a look at.
01:01:18Yeah, Danny's right, it's a tough place to go to Sunderland this year,
01:01:21and Iwobi especially today, for me, was the standout player for Fulham.
01:01:24He really had a top performance. I mean, managers in the past have played him way,
01:01:28but I think he's found his home central midfield. This is where I like to see Alex play, right in
01:01:32the middle.
01:01:32Receives it, obviously, playing forward. Cessna maybe should do better with the shot on this occasion,
01:01:37but you see him here just floating into the box again. He's a bit old-school, box-to-box midfielder,
01:01:42you know, and again, a forward-thinking pass. Can he play the ball into one of his fellow attacking players?
01:01:49Again, you know, watch him on the left-hand side of the picture here,
01:01:51he's just not happy about watching and supporting the play. He's thinking,
01:01:53I can get a chance inside the box, you know, Sunderland leave him, you know, free.
01:01:57This is his delivery for the first goal, first goal in all games apart,
01:02:00a brilliant delivery from Iwobi into the box, and again, watch this.
01:02:04This is, I think, in the 85th minute, this, you know, he could have just said,
01:02:07we'll just defend the 2-1 lead, but you see how quick they are breaking.
01:02:10He mentioned Harry Wilson, he said, another brilliant season.
01:02:12This pass from Harry is absolutely magic, and the finish, you get sort of defenders sliding in,
01:02:16the keepers coming out. This is a man full of confidence, right on top of his game,
01:02:20and that is a brilliant finish, it really is, and he said it was a hard run in the 85th
01:02:24minute,
01:02:24but it's well worth it when you get a brilliant goal they got, and it's a victory sealed,
01:02:29and obviously the stats, and when you see the graph there, they speak for themselves.
01:02:32He had a brilliant, real performance, and again, away from home,
01:02:35you want your players to stand up, and Alex stood up today with a great performance.
01:02:38Third time, he's had a Premier League goal and assist in the same game in his career,
01:02:41but it certainly was a good one with him, as it was for Raul Jimenez, who scored two goals,
01:02:45one of them a penalty, and he is penalty perfection, isn't he?
01:02:50He is super confident, not my favourite technique in the world,
01:02:54but it doesn't matter, because he never misses.
01:02:55He's actually led the line well for Fulham, and not been prolific with his goal scoring,
01:03:00missed quite a few chances, but he's so reliable from the spot, and leads the line really well.
01:03:04He does the slow stutter, he watches the keeper, and he just feels...
01:03:08I mean, we talked about lack of confidence before.
01:03:11He always looks super confident when he goes up and takes penalty.
01:03:14And he is top of the pops when it comes to penalties taken and scored,
01:03:18in that he's never missed. Those players there have never missed a penalty.
01:03:21Murphy's not there. Murphy isn't there, I'm sort of peeking at the bottom of that.
01:03:24He's not there. Because he missed one. I did.
01:03:28Took 19 and scored 18, which is a 94.7% success rate.
01:03:33If it wasn't for Joe Hartman, good old mate, it would have been 19 out of 19.
01:03:37He got into your head. He did indeed.
01:03:40But you scored the rebound from that one. He did, but it doesn't count.
01:03:43It doesn't count on the list. That's why he's not on the list, is it?
01:03:46He didn't save any, though. In terms of Sunderland, they've got Shacklebach,
01:03:50which was a positive, came off the bench today,
01:03:52and he's been out since January 17th from them.
01:03:55I think it was Crystal Palace.
01:03:56And they really have suffered without him, haven't they?
01:03:59Yeah. And I talked about the slide that they've been on.
01:04:01And home used to be a fortress.
01:04:02They'd have really wanted to arrest that after that Liverpool game.
01:04:05Yeah, I mean, I think he can still be talked about.
01:04:08Shacklebach as one of the signings of the season,
01:04:10if not the signing of the season.
01:04:12You know, his influence on the team has been there for all to see.
01:04:15And he was always going to be a miss.
01:04:16Not just his football quality, but his leadership as well.
01:04:21And, you know, if anyone can get them winning again,
01:04:24Shaka can.
01:04:25And, of course...
01:04:26LAUGHTER
01:04:27She missed it, yeah.
01:04:28It was good, but not that good.
01:04:31LAUGHTER
01:04:32That's the best one I've done in years!
01:04:34LAUGHTER
01:04:35They've done their hard work, if you like, in the first half of the season,
01:04:38haven't they?
01:04:38Because while we've had a couple of conversations tonight...
01:04:41Can you ask him?
01:04:43..about teams that might be on the edge and who's going to stay up,
01:04:47you know, Sunderland have accrued the points,
01:04:49and they won't want to end this way, but they are looking...
01:04:52No, they're safe. They really are safe.
01:04:54Fulham jumped above them today.
01:04:55I think he's had a phenomenal season.
01:04:56Jacket is a huge part of that, of course,
01:04:58and I think the recruitment last summer was brilliant.
01:05:00But he's led the group, I think, on and off the pitch.
01:05:02He's had a great season.
01:05:03He certainly has.
01:05:05OK, sadly, after yesterday's incidents of racist abuse,
01:05:09including Wesley, Fafana and Hannibal.
01:05:12Today, both Romain Mundal of Sunderland and Wolves Tolo Orokodare
01:05:16reported receiving multiple messages of similar abuse after their games.
01:05:20All four clubs involved in this have made strong statements
01:05:23saying that there's no place for racism in football or anywhere in society,
01:05:28and they condemn this abhorrent behaviour in the strongest possible terms.
01:05:33Before we go, we're going to bring you all of Saturday's goals.
01:05:45What a wonderfully clean strike.
01:05:50To Nani.
01:05:52It's not the way yet. Here's Hall.
01:05:54Hall shot through the crowd and all the way in.
01:05:57Newcastle are level.
01:05:59Lovely ball for Haaland.
01:06:02Haaland's delivery. O'Reilly's there.
01:06:052-1 City.
01:06:10It's a lovely ball.
01:06:12Caicedo for Pedro Neto.
01:06:14Joao Pedro.
01:06:161-0.
01:06:21Hannibal with a good run.
01:06:22And he's fouled.
01:06:24Fofana. Yellow card, I would thought.
01:06:28Lucas Perez.
01:06:30Spotted Cole Palmer just in time.
01:06:33Warrell had to stretch.
01:06:34And it's a red card for Fofana.
01:06:38It's a second yellow.
01:06:41In it goes from Ward.
01:06:42Prowse.
01:06:42Fleming in.
01:06:431-1.
01:06:45Great header from Fleming.
01:06:52He's gone for goal and scores brilliantly.
01:06:56Anton Stack puts Leeds ahead.
01:06:59Can Leeds hold on?
01:07:01To the far post.
01:07:02Konza Rose.
01:07:03It's it!
01:07:04It's it!
01:07:05And Samilov got out of jail.
01:07:10Ray-Anne at full speed here.
01:07:12Ray-Anne.
01:07:13Devastating!
01:07:17Due.
01:07:19Towards the near post of Wilson.
01:07:21Save from Petrovic.
01:07:28Perdi Cadiolu.
01:07:29Off the bar.
01:07:31And Gomez finds the net.
01:07:33It's in eventually.
01:07:37And the ball across looking for Welbeck who has a great chance.
01:07:40And how's that for an opportunistic goal?
01:07:46It's it!
01:07:46Okay, let's have a quick look at the table.
01:07:48Arsenal restore their five-point lead at the top.
01:07:51But they have played a game more than Chasers Manchester City.
01:07:54Liverpool are now only behind Chelsea and Manchester United on goal difference.
01:07:58United will move into fourth if they avoid defeat at Everton on Monday.
01:08:01Fulham jump from 13th into the top half.
01:08:05Forest stay two points clear of the relegation zone after their dramatic loss.
01:08:09Spurs now without a league win in nine.
01:08:12They're just four points away from the bottom three.
01:08:13Palace have some breathing room after their victory over bottom club Wolves.
01:08:19Thank you so much to Shea and Danny.
01:08:22Check are calm.
01:08:23After Arsenal's repeat 4-1 scoreline in the North London derby,
01:08:27it would be too easy to say it's North London for Eza again.
01:08:30So instead, it's Victor's double that seals the double over Spurs.
01:08:34Good night.
01:08:35Good night.
01:08:39We'll be fine.
01:08:41We'll be fine.
01:08:43Let's do it.
01:08:48We'll be fine.
01:08:49Let's do it.
01:08:51We'll be fine.
01:08:52We'll be fine.
01:08:53It's true.
01:08:54We'll be fine.
01:08:54More city.
01:08:54We'll be fine.
01:08:55It's too.
01:08:55Yeah, Father.
01:08:57G especÃfic.
01:08:58You can.
