00:05The post-All-Star break schedule begins tonight for the Lakers and Clippers
00:09as intracity rivals meet again at Crypto.com for LA bragging rights.
00:15Many Hall of Famers have graced this rivalry.
00:18Several future first ballot Hall of Famers among that group,
00:22including four-time Finals MVP LeBron James
00:26and two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard squaring off tonight for the 28th time.
00:34Leonard's teams have won 15 of the previous meetings
00:37dating back to his time in San Antonio and James with the heat.
00:43Leonard beat James 4 of 6 when LeBron was in Cleveland,
00:47the one meeting in 2019, and then since both moved to Los Angeles,
00:51it's all even at 9 apiece.
00:53The Lakers are currently 5th in the West, tied for 4th in the loss column.
00:57The Clippers start at 6-21.
01:00Since then, they have the best record in the NBA and currently a game out of 8.

01:08Well, Kawhi Leonard is 34. LeBron James is 41.
01:11Doris, we need to enjoy these games.
01:13We don't know how many times we're going to get to see these two square off.
01:16And historically, they have had some scintillating individual battles,
01:19but LeBron playing in his NBA record 23rd season.
01:23We wondered whether he would play.
01:25There was some question with some knee soreness,
01:27but his numbers absolutely unprecedented this deep into someone's career.
01:32As for Leonard's numbers, we look at tonight's crunch time brought to you by Popeyes.
01:35Well, consider that the Clippers traded away their second and third options offensively
01:40and yet are 4-2, and a lot of that is on the back and shoulders of Kawhi Leonard.
01:45You can mix the spots on the floor.
01:47He is taking more threes than he ever has in his career.
01:50We know he's always been effective around the rim.
01:53Post him. Make him shoot from space. He can do it all.

01:59Luka Doncic is back for the Lakers after missing the last four games due to a hamstring injury.
02:04He did play a handful of minutes in the All-Star game.
02:07Not only is Austin Reeves back, but he's in the starting lineup
02:10and no longer on a minutes restriction, playing just his 29th game of the season.
02:18And with James Harden now, a Cavalier, and Darius Garland still out,
02:22Ty Lue told us before the game no time frame yet as to when he will make his Clipper debut.
02:29Derrick Jones is back, though.
02:31He had 22 last night in a win over Denver.
02:36So, back-to-back for the Clippers to start the post-All-Star break schedule.

03:24Only one other team in NBA history started as poorly as the Clippers and got back to .500.

04:02Well, that's going to be interesting.
04:03The Lakers are not a heavy blitz team, but Kawhi, they just sent a second defender at him,
04:08and obviously Brooke makes a good decision at the free-throw line.
04:11It would be interesting to see how much the Lakers do that with Kawhi tonight.

04:18Luka 0 for 2, he leads the NBA in scoring.

05:27They got Benedict Matherin in that deal.
05:29He went off for 38 in the win over Denver last night.
05:32He'll be their sixth man now.
05:34James fouled by Jones, the first on the Clippers.
05:38And the Clippers, in addition to getting great play from Kawhi,
05:41have been much better on the defensive end.
05:44But in this instance, middle drive by Austin Reeves.
05:48I hate to give that up defensively.
05:49And then just Brooke Lopez doing a little work.

10:24for 152 total minutes together.

10:29When I spoke to J.J. Redick earlier today, I asked him,
10:31what's the most important thing moving forward here
10:33as we sprint towards the finish of the season?
10:36And he said for those guys to not take turns offensively.
10:39That every single night, one of them is going to have an inherent advantage,
10:43and they've got to take full advantage of that particular situation.
10:45He said they can't take turns again offensively.
10:49And again, mentioned that last season, when Luka was traded,
10:52they had a few utility plays that they could lean on,
10:55but because they've only played those 152 minutes together,
10:58that they haven't been able to get to any of that stuff.
11:00For context, by the way, on those 152 minutes that those guys have played together,
11:06the Lakers traded for Luke Kinnard two weeks ago.
11:09He's already played 96 minutes for the Lakers already this season, Dave and DB.
11:13And J.J. thinks that he's going to be a big help to them,
11:16but back to your original point about that three trying to find a group.
11:19The six-minute span, Doris here tonight, they're on the floor so far.
11:23Looked pretty good as Leonard takes his first shot of the game and hits.
11:27And you can tell J.J. thinks that they are trending in the right direction.
11:31They've employed a zone, and that has been an effective tool for them.
