00:00We talk about defense, and Detroit is a well-coached defensive team.
00:03It's the team that, you know, we talk about Cat, but, you know,
00:06even with the guys being out that are out, they still rebound.
00:09They rebound as a team.
00:10They're sending two to the ball.
00:12Brunson sees two people in front of them all the time, and also Cat.
00:14It's hard for them to actually be comfortable out there
00:16because of this defensive team.
00:17It's just, you know, it's an excellent display of defense.
00:22I love the way they're doing it.
00:23I play for a defensive team in the grit and grind.
00:26You know a little bit about them, right?
00:27Well, Rudy, you know it's not excellence.
00:30Let's look at this data deep dive presented by AT&T.
00:33The Knicks are shooting 6% from three.
00:35They hit their first three of the game and then missed their next 15.
00:39But the physicality, I think the physicality of a team like Detroit
00:42that wears on you over the course of a game,
00:44so when you do get open shots, you're rushing.
00:46You're not confident.
00:47You're not in rhythm because they're speeding you up the majority of the game.
00:51Yeah, all right.
00:51The Knicks did connect on this long-distance attempt.
00:54Cat with the pass ahead for Josh Hart.
00:56New York down by 10 against Detroit, the half.
01:00That's not a swing.
01:01You count that?
01:02Josh, you got it.
01:02You count?

01:17Game two of our doubleheader is in the bay where Christoph Sporzini is expected to make his debut
01:24for his new team, the Warriors, against his former team, the Celtics.
01:28It's got to be a good one.
01:29Fresh cut.
01:30You see.
01:31It's got to show out.
01:31Meanwhile, at the guard and the top team in the East, the Pistons lead the Knicks 58-48,
01:37and the second half is coming at you.
01:39He likes it.
01:41What a roll.
01:45The Half is presented by AT&T.
01:49Connecting changes everything.
01:51You're going to have to spy or join me.
01:53All I need is one night.
01:55Hit in the pirates.
01:57I went deaf on a chick.
01:58Yes, my, yes, I, Fiesta.
02:00Drop top G-wagons, we don't do Teslas.
02:03Don't pay for the bag, I pay semesters.
02:05I turn dream girls to my new extras.
02:07Players recognize game girls do too.
02:09Run through the city like the two live crew.
02:15You're watching the NBA on Prime, presented by Wingstop.
02:19We're getting you ready for second half action here at Madison Square Garden.
02:23The Pistons leading the Knicks 58-48.
02:27Our key of first half stats.
02:29Detroit had a flurry at the end of the first half,
02:33and Cade Cunningham was involved in basically all of it.
02:36His fingerprints are all over this game.
02:3824 points on 9 of 19 from the field.
02:40Jalen Brunson, the high man for the Knicks, with 13.
02:44Ian Eagle, Hall of Famer Dwayne Wade, Stan Van Gundy, Cassidy Hubbard on the sidelines.
02:49Look, this is a matchup that we very well could see in the postseason.
02:53In fact, we expect to see it at some point.
02:55Detroit has won five straight in the regular season.
02:57They're trying to make it six in a row.
02:58So, you could downplay, but we know what it means to the Pistons.
03:03Well, you know it means a lot to them.
03:06Like we talked about, I mean, this team sent them home.
03:08And it's something that's in that.
03:09And what I love about this team, and JB talked about it, he said they reward defensive stats.
03:14He didn't tell us what it was, but you can tell.
03:17I love them.
03:17It's no secret that they're one for 16 from three.
03:20And it's not just because they're missing shots, Coach.
03:22It's because Detroit is making it hard on them.
03:25And moments ago, Cassidy Hubbard with Detroit big man Paul Reed.
03:30Thanks, Ian.
03:32Paul, you're down Isaiah.
03:33You're down J.D., but you guys are still holding your own inside.
03:36What does that say about the depth, especially at the center position?
03:39Oh, yeah.
03:40I mean, like I said before, we got some guys on our team that's hungry,
03:44that want to go out there and prove ourselves.
03:45And Tolo Smith, he's playing great tonight.
03:48You know, I'm holding it down.
03:49So, you know, we're just trying to hold down the fort while guys are out.
03:52Absolutely.
03:52And you started the game on Cass.
03:54So, what have you guys done defensively to keep them in check so far?
03:58Just, you know, limiting their possessions and making sure that we finish possessions with rebounds.
04:05And, you know, just keep being physical with them.
04:07But, man, you know, we trust our defensive principles, so we're going to be safe.
04:11Thanks for your time.
04:11Good luck in the second half.
04:12Thank you.
04:13Ian?
04:13All right, Cassidy, thanks so much.
04:15Stan, what has to change for New York in the second half?
04:17Through two and a half games, my question is to you guys,
04:23is New York tough enough to play this team?
04:25I mean, that's where, to me, the big difference is.
04:28This team, Detroit, just looks like a much tougher team.
04:33This looks like the Big Brothers against the Little Brothers,
04:36just physically pounded them for five and halves of basketball so far.
04:41And the easy bucket for Asar Thompson.
04:44Brunson trying to wheel inside.
04:47Hart penetrates, flips it up and in.
04:49Stan, I believe that the Pistons believe that.
04:52They believe that they're tougher than the Knicks.
04:55You can tell by just the interview with Reed right there.
04:57They know that they have a defensive foundation,
05:00and they stand on that foundation.
05:02They know his physicality and his toughness and not many teams can match him.
05:05Harris misses on the three,
05:07and Brunson is fouled by Thompson going for the loose ball.
05:11The three-point shooting.
05:13The Knicks have missed 15 straight three-point attempts.
05:19Yeah, Brunson made the first one on a catch-and-shoot.
05:21Then they've missed their next 11 on catch-and-shoots,
05:24and all four off the dribble.
05:27And listen, I like where Carl Anthony Towns is right now.
05:32Now he's going to come out.
05:33Can we get him near the basket,
05:35where he would presumably have some advantage on Paul Reed?
05:40There we go.
05:41Towns drives in.
05:43Foul on Reed.
05:43Reed wants to challenge it.
05:47I want to see more of that from Carl Anthony Towns.
05:50And that first half tonight,
05:51he didn't do much more than he did two weeks ago,
05:54and he missed that game.
05:56You know, one thing, I love that.
05:58I love coming out of the half,
06:00getting him the ball right away,
06:01allowing him to be physical,
06:03to actually take the physicality to Detroit.
06:05The one thing,
06:06and you did not talk about this before the game,
06:08when it comes to Antowns,
06:09we want to see him make quicker decisions with the ball.
06:12I think sometimes he's holding it too long,
06:14and he's not making those quick decisions,
06:16which, once you make quick decisions,
06:18now the defense have to make a decision.
06:20Right now, everyone can load up when he has the ball.
06:23That's such a great point.
06:24When he's on a catch-and-go,
06:26he's got a chance to not see as much help
06:29and not see that second defender.
06:31Second foul on Paul Reed.
06:33The previous foul on Thompson was his third.
06:37Towns goes two out of two.
06:40In my mind, this is a big 24 minutes here for the Knicks.
06:45Just in terms of their mindset on how both teams think.
06:49They need to make a statement to Detroit
06:51that they're not a team Detroit can just roll over.
06:55Thompson with seven to shoot.
06:57He's one-on-one with Brunson.
06:58Swing it for the Reed baseline jumper.
07:01It goes down.
07:03Paul Reed contributing in a major way.
07:06Well, Paul Reed understands opportunity.
07:08You know, he talks about the first six years of his career,
07:11but you can see someone's put some work into his game.
07:13There we go, Cat.
07:14There we go, Cat.
07:15That's from downtowns.
07:17And a foul.
07:20Where was that from, Ian?
07:22Downtowns.
07:23I love it.
07:25Downtowns.
07:26This is what they need.
07:27I said it in the first half.
07:29Look, if they don't get Carl Anthony and Towns involved offensively,
07:34they can't beat Detroit even down two big guys.
07:4162-55.
07:43Towns now up to seven points,
07:46and that finally breaks the Knicks streak of missing three-pointers.
07:50It had been 15 in a row.
07:52Their longest consecutive streak of missed threes is 20 straight.
08:00It's nothing like the ball going in to get to actively level up on the defensive end of the floor,
08:05which they really need to, I mean, Cat to be active.
08:08Just like that, changing the side.
08:10Misses on the inside.
08:12Towns, no look for Ananobi.
08:15It's one-on-one with Cunningham.
08:17Hunkers down defensively.
08:18Look it out.
08:20That's a deep one.
08:22Does it go?
08:25He hit that.
08:25We back.
08:2762-56.
08:29Detroit.
08:30Harris.
08:31Tough angle.
08:33Yeah, Thompson couldn't grab it as he was soaring through the air.
08:36Yeah, it's because he got pushed from behind.
08:39Towns!
08:39There we go.
08:41A rack attack for Cat.
08:44There we go.
08:44There we go.
08:49The Knicks cut it to four in transition.
08:52Carl Anthony Towns, he's got eight in the third.
08:56More action from MSG after this on Prime.
09:03From the wing, presented by Wingstop.
09:06Well, this is what Cat loves to do right here.
09:08He obviously loves to shoot threes.
09:09One of the best three-point shooting big mans that we've seen.
09:12But coach coming out, giving him the ball right away was intentional.
09:16And it's allowed for this right here.
09:18Running the lane, getting the dunk, getting him in the game, getting the crowd into this game.
09:23That's the Cat we want to see.
09:26Third quarter action.
09:27The Pistons maintain the lead over New York.
09:31But it's shrinking.
09:32And a foul out front.
09:33Ananobi ends up on his backside.
09:36Two points in the first half for Carl Anthony Towns.
09:39He's already put up eight in the first two minutes and 40 seconds of this third quarter.
09:48His dad consistently in attendance.
09:53One of the great people around the game, his dad.
09:56Always great to see him.
09:57Cutting him.
09:58It rims out.
09:59Ball controlled by Bridges.
10:01Ahead for Towns.
10:03It's a run-on-one with Robinson.
10:06Oh, turn around and pull stone.
10:08He vacates the paint area.
10:11Instead of Catanobi.
10:12And it's denied by Reed.
10:15Towns is there on cleanup duty.
10:17Aisle 32.
10:18Well, he got the cleanup, but he had Duncan Rodgers.
10:21Robinson on him and ran to the weak side.
10:24Come on.
10:24Eight-nothing run.
10:26I'm not going nowhere.
10:27I just got there and scoring.
10:29I want the ball.
10:30I got a mismatch.
10:31Towns.
10:32Lob it up.
10:32And Ananobi could not adjust.
10:35But we love his activity, Coach.
10:37We love it.
10:37We love the way he's getting into this game.
10:39The way he's been active.
10:40That's what we want to see from Catan.
10:41And Robinson cans a triple.
10:43What should have been an easy basket on one end turns into a three on the other for Detroit.
10:48Yeah, missed layups usually get you run the other way.
10:51Duncan Robinson, the only piston who runs to the three-point line.
10:56Everybody else goes to the rim, which brings a lot of defensive people.
11:02And then he shoots the three.
11:04And Towns with contact.
11:07Foul call.
11:09I just like that.
11:11He wasn't doing that in the first half.
11:13I just love the fact that he put his head down and he put pressure on the defense.
11:17And then you make the ref make a call.
11:19And that'll be Reed's fourth.
11:20And that will bring a substitution.
11:25Toluse Smith, the third, will check in.
11:34Smith also is playing with three fouls.
11:37So that area where they're already very thin with no Duren, no Stewart, combined seven fouls.
11:46Towns one-on-one with Smith.
11:48Step back three.
11:49Short.
11:50Let's go.
11:53Cunningham up the floor, met by Hart.
11:56Five-point lead for the Pistons.
11:58And it's going the other way.
12:00Out of bounds.
12:00Coach, you know, sometimes your impact has to be minimum for it to beat before it becomes big.
12:05And getting the other bigs of Detroit to foul trouble for Cat, that's the minimum thing that becomes big as
12:10the game goes on.
12:11And Anobi misses on the triple.
12:13They're now two of 20 from long range.
12:16Deflected, Bridges, but Robinson again.
12:19And string music for Duncan Robinson.
12:22And Knicks have to find him in transition.
12:25Oh, Towns with the Euro, but he couldn't finish.
12:28Late whistle.
12:32So Towns is going to shoot a pair at the 730 mark of the third.
12:36And it's number four on Smith.
12:40Well, I know you don't supposed to have favorites, but Cade Cunningham and most guys who have the ball and
12:45attack, we have favorites.
12:46And a lot of it is a guy that can make threes for you.
12:49Absolutely.
12:51And Cade Cunningham knows what Duncan Robinson does for him.
12:56Yes.
12:57The more threes Duncan Robinson makes, the more space Cade Cunningham gets.
13:01Look at the upcoming national TV schedule.
13:04Tomorrow, the Mavericks are at the Timberwolves on ESPN, followed by the Clippers and Lakers.
13:09Saturday, NBA TV.
13:10Orlando is in Phoenix.
13:12And Saturday on ABC, the Knicks host the Rockets.
13:17Detroit is already over the limit.
13:21730 to play in the third quarter.
13:23Towns now has 14.7 rebounds.
13:29Well, and New York shot 21 free throws already, which is not rare.
13:33Detroit gives up 30 a game.
13:36Pistons have shot 10.
13:38Cunningham, same spot.
13:39They have a target tonight.
13:41And a rebound went through the hands of Thompson.
13:46Brunson.
13:48He's got Harris defensively.
13:52Bridge is setting a screen.
13:54Switch out front playing with four fouls.
13:55Smith, Brunson, a series of moves.
13:58Make a dance.
13:59That's just special.
14:01Make a dance.
14:02I tell you what, though, that's a great shot.
14:05But Tolu Smith can move his feet.
14:08He did a great job there.
14:10He had great discipline.
14:11Jalen, his eyes were locked in on Brunson's midsection.
14:15But Jalen Brunson just found space.
14:17Down goes Smith.
14:18Down goes Towns.
14:20And a foul called against the Knicks.
14:23Here's the dance you're talking about.
14:25Look at him.
14:26His eyes disciplined, staying down.
14:28But, whoa, buckled his knees right there.
14:32Broke his ankle a little bit here.
14:34It is a great decode.
14:35He did do a great job.
14:37For a big guy on Jalen Brunson.
14:40Wow.
14:41But all Brunson needed was a little separation.
14:43That's all he wanted anyway.
14:45OG Ananobi was called for the foul.
14:49Feels like the Knicks are going to challenge this right now.
14:51Or they're just going to look at it on their own.
14:54Well, they're going to.
14:55The Royal Floor is a defensive foul.
14:57This player is under his view.
14:57See if he meets the criteria for a flag.
14:59Ah, the question is whether or not it's going to be upgraded
15:06beyond the foul called on Ananobi.
15:08Wow, if that was a flagrant foul, I missed it.
15:12Totally.
15:12I mean, that did not look like anything beyond just a foul.
15:21Oh, come on.
15:22I'm not even sure that's a foul, quite honestly, Ian.
15:26Let alone a flagrant foul.
15:28If they call this a flagrant, we've risen to the ridiculous.
15:33So he's anticipating contact and gets that contact.
15:37Smith folds down in the process.
15:40And maybe it was a result of Smith.
15:44Oh, is he bleeding?
15:45Yeah, I think he was bleeding along the lips.
15:48I think he was bleeding before.
15:50After the review, there is no unnecessary contact by the defensive player.
15:53The rule number four stands as a common defensive foul.
15:57Detroit ran by the ball on the sideline.
15:59So Ananobi picks up the personal.
16:01Nothing beyond what we saw.
16:04Third personal on Ananobi.
16:05That is team foul number two on New York.
16:10You think we reviewed that, Dwayne, just because a guy hit the ground?
16:13Yeah, and he looked like he was in pain.
16:15And it possibly could look like he pulled him down.
16:20Coach, I think for the rest of the season, if I'm the Knicks,
16:23if Kett is struggling in the first half,
16:25I'm going to have a Kett pack in the locker room when he walks in.
16:28And it's going to have eye bandages in it and Band-Aids and everything
16:31just to let him know this is what we need from you.
16:33We need that Kett.
16:35You know what?
16:35That's what your guy, D-Wade, said.
16:37He wanted to see him with the bandage on his eye.
16:40Oh, you're D.
16:41Yeah.
16:45Well, Towns has looked like a different player in this second half,
16:48but the Pistons still lead it by four.
16:51Thompson, he draws the foul.
16:53Well, that's what I've been wanting to see out of Kett.
16:56He got a size advantage as Sard Thompson.
16:59Back the smaller guy in.
17:00Brunson's a tough guy, but he's a lot smaller than you are.
17:04Back him in and score.
17:05And that's number three on Jalen Brunson.
17:09Asar Thompson shoots it at 58% of the free throw line.
17:15Of course, his twin brother of men is also a standout with the Houston Rockets.
17:20For these two guys to come into the league and have the impact that they've had,
17:25you could see it his rookie year.
17:27It went up a level in year number two and now up another level in year three.
17:32I honestly don't believe that there is a better perimeter defender in the NBA than either one of those guys.
17:40I think they're the two best right now.
17:42Taking into account their size, their quickness, their toughness, their strength.
17:49Brunson, no argument here, Coach.
17:51Draws a lot of attention.
17:52And Anubi can't hit the three.
17:55And the problems continue from the perimeter for New York.
17:58Two of 21.
17:59Thompson.
18:00That was an off-balance delivery that Knicks couldn't gather.
18:03Out of bounds.
18:05Coach, we were talking in back about seeing the Thompson twins there when they were freshmen.
18:09And it just seemed like these two young men knew what their journey was going to be.
18:14The way they approached the game, even as freshmen in high school.
18:18And they just understood what their journey was going to be.
18:20So it's really cool to see both of them here and having the early success that they're having.
18:25I had an opportunity at an airport last year during the playoffs to meet their dad,
18:29talk to him for a few minutes,
18:31and you understand why these guys have the attitude and approach that they do.
18:37Did you have McDonald's at that trip to the airport?
18:41Well, you know, I don't remember at that trip.
18:43He might have.
18:45Turn around.
18:46Harris, he sticks it.
18:47See, Detroit is going to take advantage when they have size and strength mismatches and go to work.
18:54This is a team that knows they're bigger and more physical than most teams.
18:59Brunson bangs it in from long range.
19:0172-67.
19:04Pistons, 5-47 in play in the third.
19:07Cunningham, the cutter, off the hands of Smith, but retrieved by Harris.
19:11Cunningham, got a three!
19:15On a bang-bang play, Cunningham from long distance.
19:21He's got 27 points.
19:24Timeout, New York, 75-67.
19:27The Pistons in front.
19:31He is in the zone!
19:33That's just showing off right there.
19:35Step back, fire!
19:37Over the top!
19:39That kind of night for Jalen Brown.
19:44Coming up next here on Prime, Jalen Brown of the Boston Celtics taking on the Golden State Warriors and the
19:53debut of Kristaps Porzingis in the Bay Area.
19:58Michael Grady, Fred Barry, Hallie Clifton, they've got you covered.
20:03Second half of our doubleheader, the NBA on Prime.
20:06I want to apologize to Jalen Brown because I think I forgot how good he was on both ends of
20:11the floor.
20:11I think he's reminded everybody how great of a player that he is this year and what he can do
20:17as an individual talent to help carry a team.
20:20So, we all recall reminders.
20:24Very magnanimous of you to point that out as nobody even questioned you.
20:29Yeah, it was just your own scouting report.
20:31The whole scouting report, I kind of forgot.
20:33In the end of this year, I was like, oh, that's him.
20:36Yeah, that's the final MVP.
20:41The Pistons lead the Knicks 75-67 with just under five minutes to go in the third.
20:48Brunson, the move on Lover, and the fade is pure.
20:53McCarris Levert has no chance against Jalen Brunson.
20:57He's all over the place.
20:59He's not locked in and on balance.
21:0220 points for Brunson.
21:06The Pistons lead is six.
21:09Ananobi guarding Cunningham.
21:10Slicing, protecting, and scoring.
21:13Wow.
21:15He is putting on a show out here tonight.
21:17He's got 29 points.
21:19Against a great defender in OG Ananobi.
21:22The anticipation and steal by Green.
21:24Taken right back by Diawara.
21:28Ananobi steps into it.
21:30Missed it from long range.
21:32Coach, Kay just never looks phased.
21:34He never looks phased, no matter what's going on in the game.
21:38Ananobi is now 0 of 6 from three-point territory.
21:412 of 11 overall.
21:43Cunningham inside the arc.
21:45Unstoppable.
21:46Kay Cunningham is in the zone.
21:50Wow.
21:51Which way do you hone it?
21:53How do you hone it?
21:54We've seen it all.
21:55Threes, drives, mid-range jumpers.
21:59Brunson.
22:00Fend off.
22:01Poetry in motion.
22:03Great job.
22:04Create space there against Thompson.
22:08Seventy-nine, seventy-one.
22:10Pistons.
22:10Three and a half to go on the third.
22:12I think one thing that's underrated with Brunson coaches is his hips.
22:15He has great hip mobility.
22:20Cunningham, lob it.
22:21Catch made by Smith.
22:24Cunningham, oh, what a fake.
22:28But a whistle is blown and a foul is called against New York.
22:33Well, just Cunningham understanding where the flow is unbalanced then and going to the side where it didn't have a
22:38lot of defenders.
22:39And right here, just making his defenders step back on his heels and just raising up.
22:44And then Jalen Brunson, or is it Shakira?
22:47We don't know.
22:48Wow.
22:49Okay.
22:51That's a fourth foul on Ananobi.
22:54And you don't know LeBou-Bou?
22:55I don't know LeBou-Bou, but I know Shakira, huh?
22:57Shakira is more part-time.
23:02Cunningham.
23:03Oh!
23:04Left-hand!
23:06Cunningham with the crank.
23:08That's about the only thing left that we hadn't seen today.
23:11We hadn't seen him throw one down.
23:13He understand what we're at, Coach.
23:15He know we're in Mountain Square Garden.
23:17It has been the full repertoire from Cade Cunningham.
23:21This is when you know you want a main stage and you're the star.
23:25Oh, just nasty.
23:27Come on, though.
23:28Seriously.
23:29Kat's got to challenge that.
23:30He just got out of the way.
23:32I mean, you've got to go up and meet him up there, even if it's a foul.
23:35And Cade emoting here at MSG.
23:40That sounds like a coach, because as a player, I don't know, Coach.
23:43I've got to see.
23:43That sounds like an argument you and I would have had on the sideline.
23:46But you know what?
23:47But you aren't a big guy.
23:50You want no part of the poster?
23:51Oh, yeah.
23:52He was early.
23:53Okay.
23:53He could have been there.
23:54He could have definitely been there.
23:55I'm just telling you, your man, Eudonis, would have been there.
23:59He would have been there to take the charge.
24:00He would have been there and at least contested it or hit him.
24:03He wasn't going to just let him dunk the ball.
24:06I know that.
24:07Coach, you and I had an argument once as a player, because I didn't contest the dunk once.
24:11I remember that.
24:12You wrote that I was a star on the paper.
24:15Because I would.
24:16Do you have any recollection of this?
24:18He was like, you a star now.
24:19I just got back from All-Star Weekend.
24:21That's how we got you.
24:23Everybody on my team remembers it.
24:24I don't remember it, but I will say it sounds like me.
24:28Cade talked to you.
24:29You a star now.
24:318172.
24:33Cade Cunningham.
24:35He's a star.
24:36He's a superstar.
24:37He's a star.
24:38Stop it.
24:39We're talking about an MVP-level performance from Cunningham this season and certainly tonight.
24:46Well, look.
24:47We've already, already earlier in the year, we've talked about the MVP race as being between SGA and Jokic.
24:54Cade Cunningham has to be in the conversation.
24:57They have the best record in the league.
24:59And he really doesn't have a second scorer or shot creator.
25:06His second-best player is a guy he has to create shots for.
25:10Chammett cans it from the outside.
25:12It's 83-75.
25:14Holland answers with a triple.
25:17Coach, he's creating so much of the offense.
25:19If he's not doing it individually scoring, then he's getting his guys open shots opportunities as well.
25:25And so, you're right.
25:27He is one of those guys that you better start talking about for MVP.
25:30Chammett runs it up.
25:32Overcooked him.
25:33Remounted by Cunningham.
25:34The Pistons are up to 51% from the field.
25:39Cunningham.
25:40Set it up.
25:41Holland.
25:41Oh, that was nifty.
25:43That's Cunningham's ninth assist.
25:46And they've got their largest lead of the night.
25:4813 with a minute 22 to play in the third.
25:52You know, one thing you tell young guys when they first start playing the game of basketball,
25:55if you're going to have the ball, always keep your eyes up.
25:58Cade Cunningham's eyes is always up, scanning the entire floor.
26:02Alvarado gets it out.
26:04Bridges for two.
26:05Yes.
26:10Mikel Bridges now with eight points.
26:13Well, they made a great point in the studio on Cade Cunningham also that for a big guard,
26:19he doesn't have to, like, back the ball down the floor, Damon Jones style.
26:24Yeah.
26:24You know, or...
26:25Yeah, Mark Jackson and Damon Jones.
26:26Right, or put his body into you.
26:28He plays downhill.
26:31Cunningham.
26:32He's human.
26:33Alvarado with the defense.
26:34It's two-for-one opportunity.
26:38Brunson inside.
26:39Body bump.
26:40Bridges.
26:40Quick trigger.
26:41No.
26:42And the rebound leaks out to Cunningham.
26:44His sixth.
26:45Levert.
26:46Drive and kick.
26:48Holland's not going to take the three.
26:49And now backs it out with a six-and-a-half-second difference shot clock to game clock.
26:54Down goes Alvarado.
26:56Levert crosses.
26:58Levert sneaks inside the up-and-under.
27:01You know, Ian, you've watched that guy for a long time.
27:04Indeed.
27:04He is a bucket getter.
27:06And the lead is 13.
27:10The shot clock has been turned off.
27:12Seven seconds to go on the third.
27:14And a foul out front.
27:16As Smith and Towns were battling.
27:20And J.B.
27:22Bickerstaff upset about that foul.
27:24That's the ones he's talking about before the game.
27:27They're going to foul a lot.
27:28They always will.
27:29They're so physical.
27:30But that's not a smart foul.
27:34It's an undisciplined foul.
27:35And it's the fifth foul on Toulouse Smith.
27:39Oh, man.
27:41So, it sends Brunson to the free-throw line with 6.9 to play in the third.
27:47Brunson has scored 22.
27:54Karis Levert is one of those sneaky moves, those quiet moves that is made that some people
27:59probably didn't even hear about.
28:00But when you see him with this team, you understand why they went out and they got him.
28:04He's a guy, as we talked about with Kay, he don't have a lot of other creatives necessarily.
28:08But Levert is a creator.
28:10He's a guy who can create for himself.
28:11And so, he's going to have a really good role in Detroit.
28:15Yeah, they signed him to a two-year, $29 million deal.
28:18He's in his 10th year in the NBA.
28:20And Kevin Herter is not getting off the bench.
28:23Right now does not have a role in the rotation.
28:26They acquired him from Chicago.
28:30Well, and he came to a team.
28:33That was the best in the league.
28:35Cunningham.
28:36Takes it to the rack.
28:37D-9 by Sohar.
28:40At the horn.
28:43Cade scores 11 in the third quarter.
28:46The Knicks cut it to two, but Detroit opened it up thanks to Cade Cunningham.
28:50Cade Cunningham doing it all.
28:53Step back, pull up.
28:56All the way to the rim in the left-handed finish.
29:02And setting up other people this time.
29:05Ron Holland.
29:08The Fat Joe, not too happy about that.
29:12I got what you want.
29:13I got what you need.
29:14I got what you want.
29:15I got what you need.
29:16On Prime original movies and shows like Relationship Goals, Fallout, and Gen V, the culture-rated collection.
29:24It's on Prime.
29:30The Knicks and the Pistons doing battle for the third time this season.
29:35The Pistons won the first two in blowout fashion, and they lead the Knicks by 11 to open up the
29:41fourth.
29:43Bridges turns the corner, trying to hit the cutter Sohan, but it's deflected.
30:15Harris ahead.
30:1611 turnovers, Towns to the corner, bridges fires.
30:19In and out.
30:21Harris is there for the board.
30:22That's what he brought in for.
30:25That's what he brought in for.
30:2746.
30:27Absolutely.
30:28Man that guy.
30:29They're shooting 15% from three, and Green misses from long range.
30:37Just underway, fourth quarter.
30:41That's it.
30:42Towns try to go behind the back.
30:44He just lost control of it.
30:45Green to the rim.
30:47He flips it up.
30:48And his foul, Bridges, was the last line of defense.
30:53And Javante Green is going to the free-throw line.
30:59I love Kent Towns going quick on that, but I think that was the wrong time to go quick
31:04because the action was still happening.
31:06There was a lot of people in the paint.
31:08It wasn't really clear enough for him to really go down there and go quick,
31:11hence why he had to go behind his back, and he lost it.
31:13But I like that he did not hold it, and he tried to go quicker, quicker decisions.
31:19Green comes in shooting it at 80% at the stripe.
31:23Pistons are number 10 in offensive rating.
31:25They're number two in defensive rating.
31:29But as we mentioned, they lead the NBA in fouls and opponent free-throw attempts.
31:38One out of two.
31:41Well, you have a Pistons game.
31:42You usually have a lot of free-throws because the Pistons are third in attempts.
31:47About 57 free-throws a game with Detroit's involved.
31:5391-79.
31:55Pistons, Towns, aggressive going to the hole.
32:00Well, he's more comfortable going to his left, and that's really the first opportunity he's had to get to his
32:06left hand today.
32:0716 points, eight rebounds for Carl Anthony Towns.
32:13Levert, double-teamed, tried to build a wall, and it worked.
32:17Knocked out of bounds.
32:18But I love coaches watching Alvarado communicate and talk to Cat.
32:22Letting him on both sides of the floor.
32:24He's talking to him and letting him know, hey, come to the screen.
32:26Come to the screen.
32:27And so the guard really making sure that they get Cat involved.
32:31Eight seconds to shoot.
32:34Levert is going to go long.
32:35Towns went for the steal.
32:37Reid with five.
32:39Jenkins peeks at the clock.
32:41Right in front of Patino.
32:43Jenkins gives it up.
32:44And a layup goes for Reid.
32:46And one.
32:48That's a great play by Dennis Jenkins.
32:51Reid into double figures.
32:57This with the clock running down.
33:01Man, he just got that off.
33:04And they just lost him.
33:06That's called clock management right there.
33:08Oh, man.
33:11It's the Knicks who have been one of the best teams in the NBA when the shot clock goes under
33:16five seconds.
33:18Second most points per game in that setup.
33:23And there is Coach Patino.
33:25St. John's certainly should be a factor in March.
33:29Out of bounds.
33:31Knicks will retain.
33:31Just about two minutes gone by.
33:33Everybody appears to be okay.
33:35Well, to be great at the end of the shot clock, you need creators.
33:39When I was in Miami, we were good at the end of the shot clock because of the guys sitting
33:43next to me.
33:44And here you've got Brunson and Kate Cunningham.
33:47You're going to be good at the end of the shot clock.
33:49Those guys are going to be able to create shots.
33:52Get it in for Alvarado.
33:54The Knicks are down by 13.
33:58Towns drives in on Reed.
34:00Denied.
34:01Big old block for Paul Reed.
34:09Harris gives up his dribble.
34:14Directing traffic.
34:15Green will set the screen.
34:16They'll switch.
34:18Harris against Towns.
34:20Nice move.
34:21Left hand down.
34:22Look at Reed.
34:23Control by Reed.
34:24Outside.
34:25Levert.
34:26Bottom.
34:27It's a three.
34:29This team is good, Coach.
34:30This is a good basketball team.
34:32And they, for three games, have just outworked the New York Knicks.
34:37Here's Paul Reed making an impact on defense.
34:40Great block with the left hand.
34:47The Pistons are connected and they're clicking.
34:51The Knicks are frustrated.
34:54Bennett by Wingstop.
34:56Standings in the Eastern Conference.
34:58Detroit at 40 and 13.
34:59That's the best record in the NBA.
35:01Boston currently two.
35:03The Knicks three.
35:04Cleveland.
35:05It is starting to click for the Cavaliers.
35:08Now 35 and 21 on the season.
35:12Watch out for the Eastern Conference, Coach.
35:14Wow.
35:14All four of those teams up top are playing great.
35:18And Levert to block against Alvarado.
35:20But the Knicks hold onto it.
35:22Hart drives.
35:23And Hart scores.
35:27There's been a lot of talk about how dominant the West is.
35:30And that talk is correct.
35:31But the East is making his way into that conversation.
35:35With our top four teams in the Eastern Conference.
35:3997-83.
35:40Pistons.
35:43Levert by the open man.
35:45It's Reed.
35:45And he reverses it in.
35:47Well, they had that entire side cleared on the pick and roll.
35:51So there was no low man help from the weak side.
35:55And guys, paint points are 42-42 as Hart misses on a three.
35:59That is a huge win if you're the Detroit Pistons without Duren and without Stewart.
36:04Well, and they've made seven more threes than New York.
36:09This series does not make sense from that standpoint.
36:13The giveaway.
36:14Sohan is there.
36:16And he puts it down for his first points as a New York Knick.
36:20Sohan may end up finishing this game for New York.
36:23And he gets called on the bump.
36:25Off the trigger to Levert.
36:27That's the kind of player you need.
36:29A guy that can come in off the bench.
36:30Not afraid to mix it up.
36:32Not afraid to get a couple fouls.
36:33Not afraid to, you know, to get up.
36:35Pressure 94 feet.
36:36Won't get embarrassed easily.
36:38You need that kind of guy.
36:39Sohan's 22 years old.
36:41You tend to forget that because he's been around.
36:42He's in his fourth year.
36:44Sohan is going to take a seat.
36:47But there appears to be a role on this team for Jeremy Sohan because he's a switchable defender
36:52and brings energy and fire.
36:55Levert.
36:56He knocks it down.
36:58It's a three.
37:01This team is so deep, Detroit.
37:04Karis Levert has given Detroit its largest lead of the night.
37:10Knock away.
37:11Levert with a steal.
37:12Levert's got the angle and he can't lay it in.
37:15The follow is good.
37:17It's Jenkins.
37:18And Detroit is just controlling the action yet again against New York.
37:25Shannon's three is good.
37:27Oh, they needed that.
37:29But stay ball pressure, man.
37:31You know, they're getting over screens when a pick and roll happens.
37:34When it's one on one, you can't just go by them easily.
37:36They get a hand.
37:37Stay active.
37:37They feet.
37:38Stay moving.
37:39And they look like they love playing defense.
37:43They have 100% bought in.
37:48Karis stripped of the ball.
37:49It's out of bounds.
37:50J.B. Pickerstaff took over a team that was thirsting for credibility, relevance, and they found it.
38:00Well, just great hands.
38:02And one thing J.B. Pickerstaff talked about when he first got there, he talked about building relationships first with
38:07his players so he can earn their respect.
38:10And then now from there, you can teach them the foundation that you want your team to be built around.
38:15And that foundation is on the defensive end of the floor.
38:19How about the fact that Jordan Clarkson is not a part of this right now?
38:23The Knicks seemingly need some offense and Clarkson out of the rotation.
38:30Brunson pivots.
38:34Shammott back to back.
38:36No.
38:36Green flies in for the board.
38:40Threading the needle.
38:42Green gets it to go.
38:43And one.
38:45And somebody got a visitor in the front row.
38:47And that's ten assists for Kate Cunningham to go with his 35 points, six rebounds, a steal, and a block.
38:55And that's just a great fundamental play.
38:58Nothing fancy there.
39:00Two hands on the pass looking right where he wanted to deliver it.
39:04I remember Magic Johnson saying once, everybody talks about my lookaway passes, but he thought what made him great is
39:12he made the fundamental plays every time.
39:17He made the easy plays.
39:19You know, as a player that played in MSG, there's nothing better than when you're watching fans go to the
39:26exit.
39:26When you see them trying to beat traffic early because of the impact that you're putting on his court.
39:32There's nothing better than watching that.
39:35And then, Brunson goes off the glass.
39:38We asked Mike Brown, is it something that you have to mention to your team?
39:44How big a game this is and the ramifications for a game like this?
39:50If Detroit were to win inside, Smith couldn't finish it.
39:54And he said, look, they're aware, but yeah, I reminded them.
40:00And certainly the Knicks were completely dominated in the first two games.
40:08They just have not had answers against this Detroit team.
40:14Not at all.
40:16They're down right now 86 points in the three games.
40:21Wow.
40:21And this is without an all-star in Jalen Duren and without their backup in Isaiah Stewart.
40:29And Detroit's going to challenge this one.
40:32Foul was called on green.
40:34We'll get the coaches challenge and come back with more action in the fourth.
40:40The Detroit Pistons are once again handling their business against the Knicks.
40:46Here's Play Your Game presented by FanDuel.
40:48Jalen Brunson, 26 points, seven assists for the Knicks.
40:52It has not been enough, though, because Cade Cunningham has gone off.
40:5635 points, 10 assists, six rebounds for Cunningham.
41:02FanDuel is the best place for live betting.
41:04Same game parlays.
41:04Download the FanDuel Sportsbook app and play your game.
41:08The coach's challenge was not successful.
41:11There was contact from Green.
41:13He did get the ball initially but carried through with the wrist.
41:17And that sends Hart to the free throw line.
41:24I thought it was funny in a meeting with J.B. Bickerstaff as we see it all over again.
41:29J.B. Bickerstaff talked about his dad.
41:32Yeah, Coach, he grabbed him with the left hand.
41:34I thought he grabbed him with the left hand even before we got to this.
41:37It was hard to see it in the naked eye, but he definitely grabbed him.
41:41When J.B. talked about his dad coming to walkthrough and they was playing music during walkthrough,
41:45and he was like, I got to leave.
41:48I'm too old school for this.
41:50J.B.'s dad, Bernie, was the head coach with Seattle, Denver, Washington, Charlotte,
41:55senior basketball advisor with the Pistons.
41:58But whatever they're doing at practice is working.
42:01Play the music, J.B.
42:04Sorry, Bernie.
42:08Cunningham and the Pistons up big on the Knicks.
42:12To the rim, the floater goes for Cade Cunningham.
42:16This has been a clinic.
42:17I mean, I know they need shooting on the floor.
42:21I'd be tempted to give Jeremy Sohan a shot at this on Cade Cunningham.
42:28Cade Cunningham not only a great player, but one of the best clutch players in this league.
42:33Third in the league right now coming in in clutch points.
42:37Tonight right now doesn't look like a clutch situation.
42:40Green extra.
42:41And it's out of bounds.
42:43It bounced off the hands of Smith.
42:46Coach, one of the things I said in the opening is, you know, whoever controls the tempo tonight,
42:51they're going to have a huge say in the outcome when it comes to Brunson and Cade.
42:54Well, Cade controlled the tempo tonight, and this is why the outcome is what it is.
43:00So Sohan returns for New York,
43:04and Reed and Harris are going to have to wait for the next dead ball.
43:07He should be getting Carl Anthony Towns back pretty soon, you would think.
43:12He had a much better second half.
43:17Knicks will be home for Houston on Saturday.
43:21And Shayla Brunson is hot.
43:24Well, I'll tell you what, in the open, D-Wade talked about the two great point guards.
43:30And even though New York's down 14, both of these point guards have been fabulous tonight.
43:35And Sohan is indeed playing Cade Cunningham.
43:40Cunningham trying to beat him off the dribble.
43:42And Sohan gets a piece.
43:43A hand on a Skiller to Shevin who will lay it in.
43:47There you go, coach.
43:48Got him back in there.
43:49Detroit.
43:53It's a 12-point game with the Pistons in front, 5-0-7 to go.
