00:00Is this ruling a game-changer for the way Donald Trump can conduct international politics?
00:06Too early to judge on, and I think also from outside it's difficult for us to comment a decision of
00:14the Supreme Court in a sovereign democratic country.
00:17Constitutional questions are always in a core of the sovereignty of a state.
00:23But looking to that, what might be the consequences, I think about that Donald Trump's tax policy is very much
00:30based on the fact that he has a huge income from tariffs and that the trade relations of U.S.
00:38to other regions like European Union or India, for example, are very much driven by the tariff system regime.
00:48And therefore, I think we also have to think about what is a consequence for us.
00:53Maybe a new momentum in trade negotiations with the U.S. and also a new momentum for some parts of
01:01the business, for their future business in the U.S. or here in Europe.
01:06Does this change the way you perceive Donald Trump can act? Now there's a court ruling. Do you think he
01:12will stick to it?
01:14I think Donald Trump was very much aware of not to have a defeat on the Supreme Court and not
01:27to be a majority against him in the Congress.
01:31And there was a majority, close to a majority against him in the Venezuela question in the Senate, and now
01:39there's a decision of the Supreme Court, I think he has to think about what are the consequences for its
01:45politics up to the midterm elections.
01:47But we will see, Americans will take the right decisions and the right consequences of what happened today.
01:54Jürgen Rath, thank you very much.
