00:05as you're aware Malaysia imposes in entertainment tax and the tax can be zero to up to 33% if
00:19you
00:19include SST and that's very high now it impacts a variety not just business but more importantly
00:29the ability of the rakyat to actually enjoy or participate in these events that are organized
00:42for a lot of people who are organizing these events and entertainment in the entertainment
00:48line whether it's cinemas or malls or theme parks or live events they're all subjected to this
00:57to this entertainment tax we need to address this issue and why it's complicated is because
01:04the right to impose entertainment tax is a right that is given to the states
01:11okay under the ninth schedule to impose that tax so individual states have that right to tax
01:18but then we also have the entertainment act of 1953 regulation and that's an empowering act in
01:28other words it gives the government certain powers to see and regulate how or manage how states actually
01:37impose this tax and how it is allocated and so on and so forth so when we ask for an
01:44abolishment of
01:45this entertainment tax we will hopefully require a closer relationship or working relationship with
01:54between the federal government and the state number one and number two is for the government to re-look
02:01at this act the 1953 act to see how best we can address this issue now this is a very
02:09serious issue
02:10because on behalf of the businesses that are involved in it form from cinemas to theme parks and live events
02:17events we must remember that the cost of living has gone up the cost of materials have gone up the
02:24cost of
02:24labor has gone up the cost of doing business has gone up and this is a pass-through cost most
02:32of the time right it gets passed through in terms of tickets and accessibility is affected right
02:40also our attractiveness as a country in terms of tourism and all of that it gets affected
02:48we have done this before we have done this before in 2025 to 2023 we have got free full exemption
02:56for theme park and attraction
02:58yeah and uh i appreciate what uh the former pm tun abtullah pedawi has given that exemption
03:11and also we would like to thank pmx and uh tansri tiong and slango state government for reducing the tax
03:22from uh 25 percent to 5 percent
03:26now in kl and slango that is a good progress but only for short period
03:32because they give you give you a temporary it's not permanent so for that our call
03:39enough on the behalf of 36 association and every uh malaysian parents our call is clear
03:49abolish the entertainment tax 1953 do not tax family happiness and do not tax our our children's smile
04:04because a family happiness is the strength of our nation this 73 years old act belongs to our national museum
04:19and is older than our museum yeah so entertainment tax do not use this 73 years old entertainment syntax to
04:33tax family having fun
04:35so long term investments cannot thrive under this short term policy
04:44and very important lower entertainment tax means lower ticket prices more access to everyone this is a very important point
04:52i want to make
04:53entertainment tax is ultimately paid by the audience
04:58so lower entertainment tax will allow ticket prices to be more affordable of course for us promoters for a lot
05:06of promoters if we put the ticket price x amount on top of it the entertainment tax sometimes the tickets
05:14will be too high so demand will be reduced so we have to lower our ticket prices in order for
05:21us to accommodate to entertainment tax sometimes that's the case
05:25but a lot of cases we just transfer this to the consumers and our economic modeling says that we can
05:33probably see in a matter of two years time if we abolish entertainment tax double the number of live events
05:41maybe a hundred and fifty percent increase in attendance more than a hundred and fifty percent growth in tax revenues
05:48because larger industry creates more broader tax base
05:53so the goal is not to collect more tax from fewer events the goal is to collect to do more
05:59to allow more events more visitors more economic activity
06:03smile everybody please look at the camera right in front of you
