US President Donald Trump, who has excoriated the Supreme Court's decision striking down his sweeping tariffs, came face-to-face with some of the justices when he delivered his State of the Union address on Feb 24 night.

Trump said despite the court decision, most nations would like to keep the trade deals they had secured with the United States as any wrong moves by its trading partners would result in far worse tariff impact.

00:04One of the primary reasons for our country's stunning economic turnaround, the biggest
00:10in history, where the Dow Jones broke 50,000 four years ahead of schedule, and the S&P
00:16hit 7,000, where it wasn't supposed to do it for many years, were tariffs.
00:24I used these tariffs, took in hundreds of billions of dollars to make great deals for
00:29our country, both economically and on a national security basis.
00:34Everything was working well.
00:36Countries that were ripping us off for decades are now paying us hundreds of billions of dollars.
00:42They were ripping us so badly, you all know that.
00:45Everybody knows it.
00:46Even the Democrats know it.
00:47They just don't want to say it.
00:49And yet these countries are now happy, and so are we.
00:54We made deals.
00:55The deals are all done.
00:56And they're happy.
00:57They're not making money like they used to, but we're making a lot of money.
01:01There was no inflation, tremendous growth.
01:04And the big story was how Donald Trump called the economy correctly, and 22 Nobel Prize winners
01:10in economics didn't.
01:12They got it totally wrong.
01:14They got it really wrong.
01:16And then just four days ago, an unfortunate ruling from the United States Supreme Court.
01:20It just came down.
01:22It came down.
01:23It came down.
01:23It came down.
01:23Very unfortunate ruling.
01:27But the good news is that almost all countries and corporations want to keep the deal that
01:35they already made.
01:36Right, Scott?
01:37It came down.
01:38Knowing that the legal power that I, as president, have to make a new deal could be far worse for
01:44them.
01:46And therefore, they will continue to work along the same successful path that we had negotiated
01:50before the Supreme Court's unfortunate involvement.
01:54So, despite the disappointing ruling, these powerful countries saving, it's saving our country,
02:03the kind of money we're taking in, peace protecting.
02:07Many of the wars I settled was because of the threat of tariffs.
02:10I wouldn't have been able to settle them without.
02:13We'll remain in place under fully approved and tested alternative legal statutes.
02:17And they have been tested for a long time.
02:21They're a little more complex, but they're actually probably better.
02:25Leading to a solution that will be even stronger than before.
02:30Congressional action will not be necessary.
02:33It's already time-tested and approved.
02:35And as time goes by, I believe the tariffs paid for by foreign countries will, like in the
02:42past, substantially replace the modern-day system of income tax.
02:47It's taking a great financial burden off the people that I love.
02:55Right?
02:58Right?
03:10You
