00:00You like golf? We all love golf here.
00:02Did you like Pebble Beach last week?
00:03That pro-am, Colin Morikow with a victory here
00:05after roughly 900 days of not getting any victories on the PGA Tour?
00:10Well, we got more this week here.
00:11We're headed to LA.
00:12Scotty Scheffler, Roy McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Hideki Matsuyama,
00:16Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, and a host of people,
00:19which includes Tiger Woods on premises here.
00:21A really good tournament, Joe, which I guess is teeing off
00:25in a matter of hours here on the West Coast.
00:28Yeah, it is.
00:29And it's always a good tournament here, right?
00:32Tiger is kind of the host of this here.
00:35The Riviera Country Club is one of the best on tour.
00:39And it's the second signature event, which means that the money is increased
00:43and that means you're going to get the world's best going at it
00:47before they head back east to the Florida swing here.
00:50And good luck.
00:51It just feels like Scotty Scheffler, you know, the last couple of rounds,
00:56you know, Donnie, he has shot in the 70s.
00:59Like, he has put himself behind the eight ball, so to speak,
01:02but still manages to figure out how to show up top three, top five.
01:07Can he maybe turn that around and lead after the first round?
01:11If he does, good luck to everyone else.
01:14During the COVID era, Colin Morikow was tearing it up,
01:17won a major championship, and sort of disappeared for a little bit.
01:20Then won at Pebble Beach last week, sacked $3.6 million into his account.
01:24Feeling good on a win streak, possibly?
01:26Let's hear from him.
01:27It's, you know, probably one of my favorite events that we have all year,
01:30not just because of L.A., but I think how great this golf course is,
01:34Riviera Country Club.
01:36It's going to play a little bit different, I think,
01:37because of the soft greens and the rain and the rough's not up too much,
01:41but it still is one of the best courses we have out on tour.
01:44And having a lot of friends, family come out,
01:46it just makes the week that much more exciting.
01:49It's a long week for me, but everything's worth it, you know,
01:52whether you play great or not.
01:53But the goal is, you know, to kind of continue this momentum
01:56or whatever I had the last couple days, Saturday, Sunday, last week,
02:00into the rest of the season.
02:03It's like an NFL season, Joe, right?
02:04You have a big week on Sunday.
02:06You win on Sunday.
02:06It's like, hey, I don't care what you did.
02:08If you get on a plane, fly down there, go win another tournament.
02:11Yeah, why not, right?
02:12I mean, go get it done here.
02:14Listen, he's always had the skills.
02:17He's plenty of opportunities over the last couple of years, Donnie,
02:20for him to actually win some tournaments, but just the putter failed him.
02:25Then he was firing caddies.
02:27You know, on Sunday, he was nowhere to be found.
02:29So whatever it is, it all came together from last week at Pebble Beach.
02:34Now we'll see if that rolls over into the rest of the season.
02:38Is Rory ever happy here?
02:40We got a video of him being unhappy with the par three fourth at Riviera.
02:44Well, 15% of the field hit the green last time when it was played at its original yardage
02:54at 230.
02:56And if you want it to be a 275-yard par three, you have to change the apron leading up
03:06onto
03:06the green.
03:06It can't be kakuya.
03:08It has to be another type of grass that can help you run it onto the green.
03:11Because, again, in the right conditions, you try to fly that ball on the green.
03:16With a three iron, it's going to finish up on the 50 box.
03:20So that's sort of what I mean of why it's not a great change.
03:28So he's right about one thing.
03:30I've played a lot of golf in my life.
03:31People get excited with a 150 or less par three.
03:33Like, hey, 127, let me dial in this wedge here and knock it stiff.
03:36And then every once in a while you get up and say, wait, this is 222 on this.
03:40And again, 222, you can be able to hit the green.
03:42But your chances of par being an average golfer go way down at that point.
03:45And now as a pro, it's like, hey, why don't you basically get driver on a par three?
03:49It's like, help us out at least a little bit.
03:51So he is right there.
03:53Yeah, he is.
03:53I mean, listen, it's great for the fans, right?
03:56275 yards.
03:57Let's see who can drive the green, you know, and I get it.
04:01But, you know, that is extremely difficult to do.
04:04And what his point is, if there's nowhere to lay up on it, you're, you know, you're,
04:09you're going to be penalizing guys right off the bat.
04:12So it's, it is interesting.
04:14But this whole course is about guys that can hit mid to long irons and those that do it well.
04:20Yeah.
04:20Yeah, well, basically they'll, they'll be at the top of the leaderboard in this one.
04:24Let's squeak in a little Scotty Sheffler who told you before, he doesn't really like to play golf.
04:28What's his tune this time?
04:30Secondly, when you talk about how hard you work to, to get good at this game, how do you measure
04:34how good you are?
04:36I have no idea.
04:38I have no idea.
04:41Is it, is it scores?
04:42Is it trophies?
04:43Is it stats?
04:44I mean, how do you know you're good?
04:47I don't.
04:48That's what I think.
04:49That's why we keep practicing.
04:50You never get to a place where you feel like you got it figured out.
04:52And I always like practicing and trying to improve and creating new shots.
04:57I think golf is kind of the endless pursuit of, of trying to figure something out.
05:01And I mean, I'm never going to get there, but you know, there's no harm in trying.
05:06I need a villain, Joe.
05:07I need a villain or I need a courageous guy in the leading front.
05:11Why was Tiger Woods so polarizing out there?
05:13Because you knew he had that fire and ice on the golf course.
05:16Scotty Sheffler was like, hey man, I had no idea.
05:18Just want to get half the blue.
05:21Hour number two.
05:21Also, we know you love your golf and we got a sensational field this week.
05:25Colin Moore and Calway after roughly 900 days.
05:29Birdies, the eight-inch hole in the wind and the delay was phenomenal to watch.
05:32How does it play into this weekend and what are we looking at for the Genesis?
05:36Oh, it's interesting.
05:37I was on with Joe last week and I'm like, wow, look at my guy, Jacob Bridgwin.
05:41Hit one in the ocean.
05:42And you know, Colin Moore and Calway.
05:43Hey, hey, Kurt.
05:45Kurt's brother, Kurt Kitty.
05:46Can I borrow your putter?
05:47Can't have it back.
05:49First time I hit over a 20 foot or so.
05:51That's his putter.
05:52Now you can call it, you can call it robbery, whatever.
05:54But Moore and Cal is not giving it back.
05:56Riviera guys, really interesting tournament.
05:59We saw what happened with Scotty Sheffler again.
06:00Just, you know, out of the gate, just right around last and he works his way.
06:04And if there's a couple more holes in weather picked up, you know, guys, he probably would
06:07have won that golf tournament.
06:08So always dangerous, always lurking.
06:11But you know what, guys, Joe, I got to tell you something too.
06:13I'm going to, I'm going to Rory this week.
06:15And it's one of those things that I found 14 to one.
06:18And people were like, Cam, why are you on Rory?
06:20Well, for a lot of reasons, a double bogey avoidance last week.
06:23Like if he can just find ways to minimize doubles and triples, he would have won last week.
06:28Like he's absolutely crushing the par fives.
06:30The putter gets a little bit wonky, but you know, I can get Sheffler at three or I can
06:34get Rory at 14.
06:36I know a couple other people had boosts.
06:37Like I found like one place at a 16, but I love Rory this week.
06:41And Joe, you guys know Riviera, a little bit longer, no water, no tricks, no frills.
06:47It's one of those things.
06:47It's a golf courses, golf player, a shot makers, golf course, not screwing around Rory
06:52McIlroy, huge advantage off the tee with that driver.
06:55So I'm taking them also a couple other guys, except Stratka almost backdoor to win last
07:00week.
07:00You're telling me this guy's like 55 to one.
07:02I'm taking them.
07:03Hovland looks really good to me.
07:05He's starting to come into form in one course.
07:07This guy will really break your heart, but Patrick Cantlay, he talks about Riviera.
07:11He talks about this being one of his favorite tournaments and Cantlay is an absolute machine
07:15here in this tournament.
07:16I will take him at 28 to one guys, top 10 markets.
07:19Rory, you're going to give me even money plus 105 for a top 10.
07:22I'm in Tommy Fleetwood last week really was dialed in with the irons.
07:26He looked fantastic for another top five, top 10 performance plus 150 and an interesting
07:31player in O'Bear.
07:33What's he going to do?
07:34He didn't play well on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday, he really picked it up.
07:37He, and at two 50 for a top 10, I'm in first round leaders, guys, what are we going to
07:42do?
07:42We're going to go to Colin Morikawa, ride the hot hand.
07:45I don't think he's going to beat Rory or Scheffler this week, but we're going to ride the
07:48hot tournament win into a 30 to one for a first round leader, Jake afternoon nap.
07:53He's the epitome of Thursday.
07:54This guy always at the top of the leaderboard.
07:56Can we clip him at 35?
07:57Patrick Rogers, another Thursday, Friday, early round guy at 66 to one from Stanford knows
08:03this course.
08:04Well, and Max Gracerman, he's another guy, Joe, you see him every week.
08:07He's kind of like lingering at the top and then, so I'm just going to take these Thursday
08:11Warriors for my first round leader, 75 to one for the Duke product in Max Gracerman.
08:16Let's get it done today, guys.
