00:00There has been some debate in the public domain about Marshall Montano having performed his 2026 roadmatch winning song encore
00:07on more than one music truck at, for example, the roadmatch judging point at the Queen's Park Savannah on Carnival
00:13Monday and Tuesday.
00:14TV6 News has sought clarification from the president of Tuko, Ainsley King, at the VIP lounge in the grandstand at
00:20the Queen's Park Savannah on Ash Wednesday.
00:22What you guys saw, really, on the news, I know exactly what it is, and that's from an old rule.
00:31That doesn't apply to the new rule. There is a new rule. That doesn't apply to. So a contestant could
00:39appear in the judging area or in the judging post at any time, any amount of time, actually.
00:47So when was that new rule introduced?
00:50Well, that would have been this year. Am I correct? Yeah, this year. The changes were made from January.
00:55As some people actually recall, it happened before, years ago. You may mention a particular so-called artist, but that's
01:03not the first time you've seen artists waiting on the truck performing on the side of Savannah for the roadmatch.
01:08So it was like that, as I said. It was in the old rule. So that was there. It wasn't
01:16permitted then, but now a man could go and sing any amount of time.
01:21In a statement, Tuco said that the roadmatch winner is determined strictly in accordance with Section 36 of the rulebook,
01:28which provides that the winning tune shall be the Calypso song registered for the roadmatch competition, which is played the
01:35highest total number of times without repetition during the specified agreed period of tabulation at all designated points of competition
01:44venues as designated by Tuco.
01:47What some people say is when they hear a song, when they're about to cross the stage, and then they
01:52see the song switches, but exactly at what point on the stage is the song, or is it more than
01:58that?
01:58When the band is actually crossing the stage.
02:01So if they're crossing the stage and they switch the song?
02:06In the first play, actually.
02:08Tuco said the tabulation procedures are further clearly outlined under Section 37 of the rulebook.
02:14As he spoke with the media on Ash Wednesday, Tuco's president was asked for his assessment of Carnival 2026.
02:20Tuco has responsibility for the roadmatch and the Calypso monarch competitions, and Mr. King spoke in apparent general terms.
02:29Well, we have a lot to look into.
02:33We have been hearing, observing, and trust me, I want the public to know that we have been listening and
02:39observing, and we are going to look at reviewing a lot of stuff, the judging and all that.
02:46We heard them.
02:47I mean, we are far away from it, but we heard them, all right?
02:50And, you know, we are going to actually review, do some review, and try to make sure that the next
02:58time around that we are in a better place, actually.
