00:05Assistant Commissioner of Police Shermer Maynard Wilson says the TTPS recognizes its role and responsibility in school safety.
00:13School safety is not only an educational issue, it's a community issue.
00:19And because it's a community issue, it's a policing issue.
00:24The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service recognizes its responsibilities in this regard.
00:32Flip the Script is about reaching our young people early, giving them the support, guidance, and opportunities they need to
00:43make better choices.
00:45And when necessary, to change the direction in which our young people are heading.
00:54Maynard Wilson says that unfortunately some young people are growing up in circumstances where violence, bullying, gang culture, and other
01:02social pressures are becoming part of their daily experiences.
01:06And the schools are not exempt from these.
01:09And this can affect children's performance.
01:11Some of these challenges do not exist outside our school compound.
01:18They follow our children into the classrooms and can affect how they learn, how they interact with each other, and
01:28ultimately the choices they make.
01:31Our schools must be places, as indicated by our previous, our master's ceremony,
01:40must be places where children feel safe, where they can grow and develop.
01:45The ACP also encouraged young people to speak out against bullying.
01:49If you are being bullied, threatened, pressured, tell someone.
01:56Speak to your teachers, parents, guardians, our school officers who are embedded in your schools.
02:06An adult you can trust.
02:08If you see another student being bullied or being placed at risk, do not remain silent.
02:19Speaking up will make a difference.
02:23The Flip Descript initiative is being undertaken through the School-Oriented Policing Unit under the supervision of the TTPS Community
