00:00All right, Jenny.
00:01Three, two, one, go!
00:06Yeah!
00:09Perfect!
00:12For me and Dave, every day is a lot of moving parts.
00:16With five growing kids...
00:18No!
00:19Do not go in the house!
00:21All right, can we break up?
00:22Whoa!
00:24Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:25A working farm full of our beloved animals.
00:28Sometimes cows don't do what you want them to.
00:30It's the strangest thing.
00:31I think I have to go in and scoop some poop, too.
00:35Yeah!
00:35A renovation business...
00:37What?
00:39...and running two stores in our community of Northwest Arkansas.
00:43I think we did it.
00:44We definitely did it.
00:46We stayed pretty busy...
00:48Ah!
00:48...and sometimes a little stressed.
00:51God!
00:51Oh, my Lord, David!
00:53But when your job is helping your neighbors transform their lives...
00:58Oh, my God!
00:59By transforming the place they call home...
01:02...they crushed it.
01:03Oh, my God!
01:05It's so pretty!
01:06Oh!
01:07It's not really work at all.
01:08Just another day in this crazy, beautiful life we call ours.
01:12Oh, my God!
01:13How did you do that?
01:26Okay, we're here meeting with Larry and Jennifer Lundeen.
01:30And their house is really pretty, so I'm very curious to see what all we need to do.
01:36Oh!
01:36Uh-oh!
01:37Puppy!
01:37There's a puppy!
01:38Hi!
01:39Hi!
01:39Hi!
01:40Good to see you!
01:40Good to see you!
01:41Come on out!
01:42Let's talk about your house.
01:44Hi!
01:44Hi!
01:45Now, who's this?
01:46This is Sandman.
01:47Sandy, for short.
01:48That's Caroline's service dog.
01:49Okay, and Caroline is your daughter.
01:51Yes.
01:52I'm Jennifer.
01:53And I'm Larry.
01:54And we've been married 34 years.
01:57Tell them how we met.
01:57We met in college.
01:59We went to Southern Arkansas University, and I was the campus cop, and she was the pretty junior in college.
02:06I'm sorry, that's his version.
02:07And he was a baseball player, and we met through my sorority.
02:11Yeah, that's true.
02:11I forgot that part.
02:13Our daughter Caroline will be 23 this week.
02:17She's the center of our world.
02:18And she has a genetic disorder.
02:21Called G-A-M-T.
02:23Don't ask me to say what that stands for, but it's very rare.
02:26At the time, she was diagnosed with like 50 cases in the world.
02:30And it causes boobit disorder and epilepsy and autism.
02:35She's nonverbal, but she's just happy and loves life.
02:38She loves swimming.
02:39So we built this outdoor space for us so she could swim all the time.
02:44But we'd like to see it at the front of our house with more street appeal.
02:48And then on the inside of the house, it's dated.
02:50Yeah, very dated.
02:52Also, we've run into some challenges as Caroline has gone from a young child to a young adult.
02:58And she requires 24-7 care, so she'll be living with us our whole life.
03:04So this is our sanctuary.
03:06If we can make it easier for Caroline and make it better for us, that's what we're excited about.
03:13Yeah.
03:14Tell us what we're doing here.
03:15What all of you guys want to see happen?
03:16Oh, my gosh.
03:17As far as the outside, we'd love to see these two monsters go.
03:21I don't think we knew they were going to grow this.
03:22No, we did not know.
03:24Also, there's no walkway up to our front door.
03:26Oh, yeah.
03:27What about the brick and the color?
03:29You know, I'm not much on design, but if it was whitish color brick.
03:34This brick does not offend me.
03:36You know, I think it's a pretty brick.
03:38Yeah, it is.
03:38But, you know, maybe some kind of cream color.
03:42Something.
03:42The trim around the windows and all that, like, not a big fan of that color.
03:46He's never been a fan of the color.
03:47Do we want darker trim?
03:49What about dark, purple?
03:50Yeah.
03:50Sounds like you are a lot on design.
03:52Yeah.
03:53Okay.
03:54I'm going to test some colors.
03:55What else?
03:56I want a new front door.
03:58To me, it just looks dated.
03:59Yeah, it is dated.
04:00So what's your budget for this renovation?
04:02I think we're thinking about $200,000.
04:04Okay.
04:04Out here, we will get rid of the monster trees, potentially paint the brick, update the color
04:11of the trim, get you a new front door, and also we're going to add a walkway.
04:15Walkway.
04:15Yes.
04:16Yeah.
04:16With maybe a little landscaping.
04:18Yeah.
04:19Along the sides of that.
04:20It says it's not a designer.
04:22You know a choice.
04:22You know a choice.
04:24I love it.
04:24All right, so I assume there's a lot to be done inside.
04:26Yes.
04:27Come on.
04:28All right.
04:29This is so nice.
04:30Okay.
04:31Here we are.
04:31What are we doing?
04:32Where are we starting?
04:33Well, we want to focus on our kitchen.
04:36Living room.
04:36Office.
04:37And our daughter Caroline's bedroom and bathroom.
04:40It's really more suited for somebody younger and somebody that doesn't have special needs.
04:45Let's go take a look.
04:48Okay.
04:49So, okay.
04:50This is her bathroom.
04:51This is her bathroom.
04:52Yeah.
04:52It's very 90s looking.
04:54It's got a very small bathtub.
04:57She can't step in and out of it.
04:58Because of her mobility.
04:59She needs more space.
05:01She needs more space and safer.
05:02We want her to be a little bit more independent too.
05:05We want this whole bathroom and...
05:08Bedroom.
05:09Bedroom to become her own little suite.
05:11Yeah.
05:12Okay.
05:12And then maybe a wall right here with a door here so she can still have her privacy.
05:17Okay.
05:17What's this room over here between Caroline's bedroom and bathroom?
05:20This is the office.
05:21This is the office.
05:22And do you use this?
05:23Yes.
05:24All right.
05:24So, in here.
05:25I see you already have another entrance into this room from the foyer.
05:28So that's good.
05:29Could we take part of this space and create a bigger bathroom?
05:33Even just taking this built-in desk area would gain us a couple of feet for her bathroom.
05:38Yes.
05:38I would just need the desk.
05:40And we knew we were going to do the renovation so this wall is filled with memorabilia.
05:45Because you already started packing.
05:47You were in the Secret Service, right?
05:48Yes.
05:48Yeah, I was in the Secret Service.
05:49Thank you for that.
05:50I have White House memorabilia.
05:52I have...
05:52He was there during 9-11.
05:53Oh my gosh.
05:54So he has an award for being there.
05:56Wow.
05:56So you want a bookcase to highlight all that?
05:59Yeah.
05:59Yes, definitely.
06:00We'll figure it out.
06:01Okay, so I feel like we need to look at the bedroom.
06:03I can tell if she likes color.
06:05She loves color.
06:07So does she love butterflies?
06:08Yes.
06:09We call her our butterfly because she was born just this tiny, fragile thing.
06:15But over the years, she has just blossomed into this beautiful 23-year-old.
06:20And still fragile, but very strong.
06:23Oh, that's beautiful.
06:25Okay.
06:26Tell me what you need for Caroline.
06:28We would like to see a washer and dryer.
06:31Oh.
06:32She actually will do laundry in our laundry.
06:34She doesn't always get it 100% right, but we're trying to teach her.
06:37Does she need a side-by-side washer and dryer?
06:39Yes.
06:40Okay.
06:41So we're basically walling off this section of the house,
06:44stealing a little bit of space from the office in order to create a bigger bathroom.
06:49We'll also add the new entrance into her suite.
06:51And then in her bathroom, we'll update everything.
06:53We'll add a shower-tub combo that's a walk-in so it's safe for Caroline.
06:59We'll add a washer and dryer within the space as well.
07:02And just make her suite beautiful and updated for the young adult that she is.
07:06Yeah.
07:07And Sandy sleeps in with her, so if there's a little area for him next to the bed or something.
07:11Aw.
07:11All right.
07:12Will do.
07:12What else?
07:13I'm going to show you the living room.
07:15Okay.
07:16So we like the size of the living room.
07:19It's a great size.
07:20It's a great room.
07:21It is.
07:22Speaking of, your TV's a great size as well.
07:24That's my favorite part of the room because we're big TV watchers.
07:27We spend a lot of time at home because for Caroline, it's her safe space.
07:31So this is like our big hangout room.
07:33Well, this is our hangout room.
07:34We've just never really known how to orient this space.
07:38It is hard when you have a focal point there and here.
07:40Obviously, because the TV is so big, it's not going above the fireplace.
07:43So, I mean, what if we took the TV and put it on this wall and we did a built
07:48-in?
07:48Because if you had your TV on this wall, you could also see it from your kitchen, which might be
07:52nice.
07:53Yes, because right now I have to look through that mirror to see the TV.
07:58Okay.
07:58And I would love new flooring because we have different types of floors.
08:02So make it consistent.
08:03All right.
08:03So the plan for the living room is to update the flooring so you have new flooring throughout the house.
08:08We'll paint, update the fireplace, and create a space where you can have your big TV.
08:13I like that idea because we want, you know, that size or bigger and that wall.
08:18Or bigger.
08:19He got that in.
08:20That's what I like to hear.
08:22Let's go into the kitchen.
08:23It's a nice big space.
08:24It's a big kitchen.
08:25It really is.
08:26We tried our shot at a remodel.
08:28But it's, it just looks dated.
08:31We've had it for quite a while.
08:32I'm ready to see a change.
08:34Hoping for it's like more of a modern coastal kind of feel.
08:37I feel like this ceiling, we should get rid of it.
08:39This ceiling is a hot mess.
08:40We've got to clean it all up.
08:41Remove the table.
08:42Okay.
08:44And make, make the center island bigger.
08:46You don't want a table in here.
08:47Just the island.
08:48We've had an argument over the table.
08:51You've got to take your time.
08:52We'll, we'll, we'll just talk amongst ourselves.
08:54I think if we had an extended island with seats at it, as long as we had a place to
08:59sit.
09:00I think it's a really cool table though.
09:02I love the.
09:03The chairs are awesome too.
09:05I love the chairs.
09:05You're helping me there.
09:06He's never, he's never sat at it.
09:09It's a little small.
09:11Once we get everything out of here, measure the space that we have, we'll figure it out.
09:15Yeah.
09:16This sunroom is beautiful.
09:17You guys use that a lot.
09:18It's so nice.
09:18Sunroom was an addition.
09:20We'd rather it be a much more open.
09:22Okay.
09:23So for the kitchen, we are going to remove everything.
09:26Remove the tray ceiling.
09:28Have new cabinets, new countertops, new appliances.
09:31Give you a new island.
09:33Really making it a happy coastal infused kitchen.
09:37And potentially get rid of this slider so that it connects the sunroom with the kitchen.
09:41Yes.
09:42Okay.
09:42Sounds good.
09:44What kind of timing do we have to get this done?
09:46Oh, yes.
09:47So we will be in a hotel, but the sooner we can get back in our home, because Caroline,
09:55she'll start getting antsy.
09:56We were packing up.
09:57She was trying to put stuff back.
09:59Yeah.
09:59Because this is her home.
10:01Yeah, it's confusing.
10:02We got to get it done.
10:03Yeah.
10:03I'm excited about this one.
10:04I think we can really help Jennifer and Larry as the caretakers, but also Caroline,
10:09because this home is a place where she is comfortable.
10:12And we want to make sure that her space is functional, beautiful, and safe.
10:17Finish packing and we'll get started right away.
10:20Sounds good.
10:20All right.
10:21I can help you with TVs, but packing?
10:23Yeah.
10:25I think timing is going to be the bigger issue with this one, because they are getting
10:30this rolling as quickly as possible.
10:33We need to have that same sense of urgency to get this renovation done quickly.
10:47Demo day at the Lundeen house.
10:49How are you guys doing?
10:50Hi.
10:50Good news is we don't have anything to do outside except for getting rid of some trees.
10:54Did you hear that?
10:55We don't have anything to do outside except for the sidewalk and a few other things.
10:59And a tram and all that.
11:00But as far as demo, today.
11:01Oh, okay.
11:02What's up, man?
11:03Hello.
11:04Let's go inside.
11:04Hey, you want to take these trees to your house and plant them?
11:06You taking them down?
11:07That's what they said.
11:08They want them down.
11:09I don't think you can save them.
11:10I know.
11:11Come on in.
11:13I think the biggest focus is the kitchen.
11:16Basically, everything is going.
11:19Obviously, if we can donate these cabinets, we should.
11:23All right.
11:23Let's go.
11:31I love Matt's style of demo.
11:33Slow it down.
11:34Someone else will carry it.
11:36Right behind you.
11:36Hold on.
11:38Like I said, right behind you.
11:39Hold on.
11:39It's like trying to tell a train to stop once it's going.
11:42The train wasn't moving.
11:47I think we should move the sink to the island because otherwise you're looking at a blank
11:51wall.
11:51What?
11:51Yeah.
11:55Okay.
11:55So if you get rid of that window.
12:00I think he just waits for you.
12:02Okay, go ahead again.
12:03Can you get rid of it?
12:07Never mind.
12:08I'm not talking anything through right now.
12:11The goal is to get the Lundians out of the hotel they're staying in.
12:16And back in their house in 10 weeks.
12:20But we have a lot of work to do.
12:23So I think we can divide and conquer.
12:26Because the sooner we can start building back, the better.
12:30It's all got to be done.
12:32It's all got to be done.
12:39All right.
12:40We're getting this bathroom completely opened up.
12:43Well, that's the problem.
12:45I know.
12:45Jenny!
12:46Oh, yeah.
12:46Is this the bad news you had?
12:48Yeah, it's not bad news.
12:49It's just news.
12:50Okay.
12:51So we're all on the same page.
12:52In Caroline's bathroom, we've got a 40-inch vanity.
12:55We've got a toilet.
12:56We've got a 54-inch tub.
12:58And then we've got a small linen pantry.
13:02And then plenty of room to be able to move and help someone in here if they need help.
13:07So then what's the issue?
13:09Basically, when we started pulling this out, we realized we cannot fit the washer and dryer.
13:13Would the washer and dryer fit over there?
13:15They don't want it stackable.
13:16Yeah, they want it side by side.
13:18Side by side.
13:19So our plan is to close off this extra entrance into the office.
13:22That'll give us enough space for the washer.
13:24But unfortunately, we need to steal some space from the bathroom in order to make room for the dryer.
13:29So we're actually going to have to shift this whole wall over to fit the washer and dryer there and
13:35rearrange the bathroom a little bit.
13:37So the bathroom's going to be smaller.
13:38Yeah.
13:39Caroline's bathroom can't be any smaller.
13:45We're either going to have to make the bathroom smaller.
13:47Yeah.
13:47Or what about, like, the washer-dryer combo?
13:50She puts all the clothes in, hits the button, it washes it, it dries it, then it's done.
13:54And save us to having to rip all this off.
13:57Yeah, we've got plenty of room there.
13:58We've got plenty of room.
13:59Yeah, we square this off here.
14:00You put a washer and dryer in a cabinet, that's more storage.
14:02Well, let me ask if that would be something they'd want.
14:05Okay, sounds good.
14:06I'll find out.
14:06We're trying to accommodate what Jennifer and Larry want for their daughter Caroline.
14:10You know, we basically have a game plan for either scenario.
14:15Doing the combo washer-dryer actually just gives us more space in the bathroom.
14:20And I think that would be ideal, but it really depends on what they want for Caroline.
14:25And that's the most important thing.
14:28Sorry to bother you.
14:29I just am calling real quick with a quick question.
14:31We are working on the layout of Caroline's bathroom.
14:35And I know you wanted a side-by-side washer and dryer.
14:38But if we do that, it's going to actually eat into the bathroom.
14:43So the other option we thought about is a combo washer and dryer.
14:48Yeah.
14:49And it just depends on what you want for Caroline if you want her to have the process of the
14:53wash and the dryer and, you know, all of that.
14:55Or if you want her to just have it all in one unit where it washes it and then it
14:58dries it.
14:58This combo washer-dryer sounds good to me.
15:01Okay.
15:01I'm going to trust y'all so that sounds good to me.
15:03All right.
15:03Okay.
15:03We'll move forward with that.
15:04Okay.
15:05Bye.
15:05So you got some words?
15:06Go ahead and do the combo unit.
15:09All right.
15:09Moving forward.
15:10Good.
15:10Thanks.
15:11Let's get it done.
15:15Once the plumbing is rerouted to make sure it's easier and safer for Caroline to move around.
15:20And then by stealing space from the office, we were able to take Caroline's old seven-by-eight bathroom and
15:27increase the size to ten-by-eight.
15:29There's great news that the whole drop soffit came up.
15:32It feels way bigger.
15:33Way bigger.
15:33We have to figure out the layout of the kitchen.
15:35We have 14-foot wide so we can get like a 42-inch island.
15:39The island is also needing to be...
15:42Like a table.
15:42Their table.
15:43So here's an idea.
15:45Do we take all of this out and make it just lowers?
15:49Instead of a pass-through, like take this out too.
15:51I had a pass-through in my house growing up and it reminds me of that.
15:54Because we added on a living room.
15:55They are a little dated.
15:56I do agree.
15:57Makes it feels like that.
15:58And so then we just open the window, which feels like...
16:00Like the 1950s again?
16:02I wasn't a kid in the 1950s!
16:05But you take this out and then it connects the kitchen with the sunroom and make that a dining room
16:11area.
16:11They really do love that space, so it feels like let's connect it with the house more instead of making
16:16it an afterthought.
16:18Yeah.
16:18So the other thing is Larry had mentioned to me, he had texted me, that he wanted to surprise Jennifer
16:22with one of those wine dispenser machines.
16:25You know what I'm talking about, where you put the bottles in and you push the button?
16:27Yeah.
16:27One thing I'll never get you.
16:29Makes it way too easy.
16:31Never leave the house.
16:32You're going to be calling Italy.
16:33Can I get a 250 gallon bladder of wine?
16:35Please ship this way.
16:36Anyway, sorry, back to the wine dispenser.
16:38We do a little built-in bar in this little nook.
16:41I think that's a great idea.
16:42Great.
16:43Love it!
16:43All right, let's open it up.
16:46We're doing everything we can to keep this renovation moving quickly.
16:50I am focused on getting plumbing fixtures, sinks ordered.
16:54This one's really popular.
16:55Okay, I was going to say I like this one because of the size and I think it's pretty.
16:59What is happening with this tub?
17:00This is so fun.
17:02We actually got it painted.
17:03A local artist, she came in and did a live painting.
17:05It's amazing.
17:07Yes.
17:07I already have a custom tub ordered, but I might have to add some art to it.
17:11I love that.
17:13You got it?
17:14I got my house.
17:14All you guys, all you.
17:15At the house, the guys are working on opening the kitchen up to the sunroom, while in Caroline's
17:20bathroom, the new, more accessible tub is getting installed.
17:24Testing out the tub.
17:25We've got some light.
17:27We've got some power.
17:28I'm going to kick on these jets.
17:31Oh, this is going to be nice.
17:33Also, we closed in the extra entrance into the office to create the nook for Caroline's
17:38combo washer and dryer, and we added the new doorway into her suite.
17:44One thing Larry requested was a large TV.
17:47He likes to watch sports.
17:48He used to have a TV on the wall that's adjacent to the kitchen.
17:51You can't go big enough.
17:52We need to measure.
17:53Here you go.
17:53I was going to start measuring.
17:54I've already looked it up.
17:5585-inch TV.
17:56That's the biggest for this room, a room this size.
17:59So I thought we could do a big built-in on this wall.
18:02Start it maybe a couple feet off here, a couple feet off there.
18:05Is that good for your TV?
18:07It's 85 diagonal.
18:08So it gives me space on either side for bookshelves or not?
18:11Yeah.
18:11I think it probably gives you three feet on either side.
18:16Yeah.
18:17So imagine this arches all the way over.
18:19You could also do storage underneath, and then bookshelves on either side, and then the
18:23TV in the middle.
18:24Okay.
18:24So I had an idea for the built-in to give us a focal point in the room besides the
18:29fireplace.
18:30But there's a window, and I imagine this one way, and now I'm standing here, and I'm
18:34not sure if it's actually going to work.
18:37So I don't know.
18:38Hang on.
18:38Is this going to work?
18:39Because when I was envisioning it, I was envisioning like the whole thing comes out,
18:43but the whole thing can't really come out because of this window.
18:45Yeah, but we're only going to come out a foot.
18:47I know, but now I'm right.
18:48So we're only going to come out to here.
18:48Is that going to look weird?
18:50Because then you're blocking a window.
18:52Right?
18:52Do we totally get rid of this whole thing?
18:54I don't know.
18:57Yeah.
19:04I don't think we adjust the TV at all.
19:06We've settled on that.
19:08This is 12 inches.
19:11So if you were 12 inches out.
19:13I don't think it's a big problem, really.
19:14Cover the wall.
19:15Yeah, it's not bad.
19:16That's all we had to do was bring a board over?
19:18Yeah, I just had to see it.
19:18And we could have avoided all this?
19:20Yeah, I just had to see it.
19:20That's even 14 inches out, so.
19:22That's all I needed.
19:22I just needed a little visual aid.
19:24I've learned that.
19:25I'm a visual learner.
19:26Five years now.
19:28I'm learning.
19:28He's not.
19:29He's 20 years in.
19:30I'm never going to learn.
19:31At some point, you're just like, mm.
19:33That's how I'm here.
19:35Same way.
19:35We see things differently.
19:37So good?
19:38Yeah.
19:39Done.
19:39Great.
19:40Whew.
19:41There's a lot, but we got there.
19:50We got all the bracing and everything nailed in,
19:53and then we've got flexible quarter-inch plywood.
19:56So we'll rip that strip, and then we'll flex that around.
20:00All right, go ahead.
20:05Looks good.
20:05Get the other pieces cut.
20:12In there.
20:16Feels way different.
20:17It actually looks like a house you can see now.
20:19I like it.
20:20I like it a lot better.
20:21Let's figure out the walkway.
20:23Jenny wants to do a modern cement paver.
20:25We talked about four by four by two.
20:28You don't want them too small with the concrete on the cracks.
20:30Yeah, that's too.
20:31Yeah, I think that's good.
20:32All right, let's just start painting.
20:37So we're going to have one right off of here.
20:39And then I think we do the same two feet.
20:42Yeah.
20:42Just have like four inches in between.
20:45Something like that.
20:48Don't tell me you haven't been a hopscotch fan.
20:50Yeah!
20:53Looks good.
20:59We have sheet rock on the walls.
21:01Things are moving forward.
21:04And I'm trying to make progress in Caroline's suite.
21:07Okay.
21:08So Caroline's bathroom.
21:10We have this really beautiful marble floor.
21:13I wanted to keep this space neutral because we're going to have all the color right here.
21:17What is happening with this tub?
21:19It's amazing.
21:20Yes.
21:20When I saw that painted tub the other day, I thought that was really unique.
21:24And I'm going to give the artist a call to see if she can paint this tub.
21:28Caroline loves color.
21:29So on this wall, we'll have this blush tile behind the vanity.
21:35So we have very neutral here, a little bit of color here.
21:39And then we have a little bit of color here on the tub where it's still really soft and feminine
21:43and beautiful, but it's also kind of fun.
21:46So that's Caroline's bathroom.
21:48It's going to be pretty.
21:58So I am building a nightstand slash dog bed for Sandy.
22:04He's Caroline's service dog.
22:06And so in her bedroom, it'll just be a space where he can kind of get in there and get
22:10away and have, you know, his own little dog bed.
22:13Hey.
22:13We don't have a ton of room for this thing.
22:15What?
22:16For the dog bed.
22:17Oh.
22:18Well, I'm picturing like if the bed is, so if this is the back wall and this is the bed,
22:23the profile of it, that's the dog bed.
22:26And then it sort of arches up to a nightstand.
22:28It looks like a ship.
22:30Like a boat.
22:31Like a boat for the dog.
22:32Hang on.
22:33The problem here is I haven't.
22:36Hang on.
22:36Just give me a second.
22:38Dogs don't really have pointy, some dogs have pointy ears.
22:41Oh my gosh.
22:42Jenny, I've got 50 things I've got to get done.
22:45Well, that looks like a cat.
22:46Shoot.
22:47Imagine that's a dog on a boat.
22:51You'd probably get a dog bed that's like a 24 by 36.
22:55That would be big enough for most large dogs.
22:57I have Dolly's bed right here.
22:58You want to look at that?
22:59Yeah, grab it.
23:00As long as I can get her away from drawing dogs into the actual work at hand, we'll be good.
23:06So this one's kind of small.
23:07So that's 24.
23:09I think it should be a little bigger, though.
23:10That's 29.
23:11So maybe 36?
23:13Yeah, probably.
23:14Let me see.
23:1524 by 36.
23:16Okay.
23:17It'd be nice if you had a drawer.
23:18And then the bed will sit right in here.
23:20Love it.
23:21Get a jigsaw and we'll cut it out.
23:22We'll have ourselves a nice little dog bed nightstand.
23:25I'll leave my drawing here in case you need to refer back to it as you work.
23:27I don't need it.
23:27You can take it and throw it in that fireplace right there.
23:29Okay, I'm going to find a cute dog bed.
23:39With five weeks to go, the new walkway is making the front of the Lundin's house much more inviting.
23:45And Cruz painted the old tan colored trim, this nice mushroom dark taupey color.
23:51And then in Larry's office, even though we stole some space to give to Caroline's suite, this is a good
23:56size office, but this bookshelf now is really weird.
24:00It's not centered on this wall and there's a gap.
24:02Is it built onto the wall or could we like scooch it and center it up or?
24:06It's a built-in cabinet.
24:08I'm just not sure how easy it'll be to move it.
24:11So we have a bookshelf in here that Larry had filled with his memorabilia and things that were important to
24:16him and this bookshelf is important to him to have in his office.
24:19We can center this in the wall if we can get it for you.
24:23I mean, I'd rather have the full width.
24:24The other thing I could do is I could just frame in a wall and bring sheetrock over to here,
24:28too.
24:28No, and then it's all centered. That's terrible.
24:30No offense, but...
24:32Do you ever wonder, like, that maybe your reactions are a little exaggerated?
24:36No, your idea was terrible. You're trying to cover up the fact that it was a terrible idea.
24:39It wasn't an idea. It was an option.
24:43I'm tired. I ate lunch and I'm really full. This doesn't look like...
24:47Full gassy and tired.
24:48I did. I ate brussels sprouts. So I'm really bloated.
24:53Derek!
24:53So give him our options.
24:55We've got to hurry. She had brussels sprouts for lunch.
24:57Okay, wait, this is a ticking time bomb.
24:59That'll be precious here shortly.
25:02Okay.
25:02I can't laugh too hard because I sneak out of two times.
25:05I don't want to stand on this side.
25:06Okay, so I said we can frame this in so it looks built in.
25:09I said we can try to...
25:10No, wait, you said frame it in with drywall.
25:13So then this will just be drywall and a bookshelf.
25:18It looks atrocious.
25:20See?
25:21Everybody says that, Dave, not just me.
25:23We can try to unbolt this where we slide it over or we build the entire thing.
25:27So basically, I think this whole wall needs to be bookshelves and I think I trust the three of you
25:33to figure out how to do that best.
25:36I'm thinking trying to dig the screws out and move it over and make a bigger one in the middle.
25:40That's what I think.
25:41All right.
25:42You stay in here.
25:42Good job, guys.
25:43Why am I staying in here?
25:44Brussels sprouts.
25:46Oh, my gosh.
25:49Look at your TV.
25:51It's huge.
25:52Is it big enough?
25:52Is it big enough?
25:55Let's go.
25:57Let's go.
26:00Let's go.
26:01Let's go.
26:03Let's go.
26:04At the Lundeen house, the new engineered hardwood is beginning to get installed throughout.
26:10As well as tile in Caroline's bathroom.
26:13But we still need to figure out the layout for Larry's office.
26:17Derek and I got the cabinet moved over.
26:19Now we've got to just decide whether we're doing a desk that is built into this wall.
26:24Because Larry does want a desk.
26:26I feel like it's weird to stare at the wall.
26:27I would prefer the desk here, though.
26:29Like the desk this way.
26:30Or the desk could go this way.
26:31The desk where he can see people coming in.
26:32So he's not facing the wall.
26:33He's facing the windows looking out.
26:35And have this all built in behind the desk.
26:38Oh, funny enough.
26:40Larry's here.
26:41Do you want to come out?
26:42Yeah.
26:42Hey.
26:43What are you doing here?
26:45Well, I thought I'd come by and show you the wine thing that I wanted to surprise Jennifer with.
26:50Oh, okay, good.
26:50Yes.
26:51I couldn't help but notice.
26:52I love this.
26:53Okay, good.
26:54Remember how we talked about surprising her with the wine dispenser?
26:58Yes, how fun.
26:59Okay.
26:59Here, Jenny, we'll get it.
27:00Yeah, it's probably heavy.
27:01We were actually just discussing your office.
27:03I think we just bring the man in there and ask him what he wants.
27:06Yeah.
27:06Do you want to go in?
27:07Hey, we'll go put this down, and we'll meet you in the office.
27:09All right.
27:09All right.
27:11So I think the brick actually looks really pretty with all the trim, but I know you guys
27:15wanted to go light.
27:15You're sure before we paint it?
27:17I'm sure, because that's what my wife wants to do, too.
27:19All right.
27:19We're doing it.
27:20I promise we're going to get you out of the hotel in the next four weeks.
27:23All right.
27:24So we want to talk about your office.
27:26Oh.
27:26Oh.
27:27Okay.
27:28What I would like to do is refill this back up with all your bookshelves and put your desk
27:32here.
27:32Yeah.
27:33So you have a little chair here.
27:34Yeah.
27:35And then we could put your desk here so you have more space.
27:38I like the idea of a couple chairs to be able to hang out in.
27:43As long as there's a place to sit at with a computer and printer where I can work on
27:47it.
27:47What'd you decide?
27:48I mean, I...
27:49Well, we're talking.
27:50Well, I could go either way.
27:52Okay.
27:52Well, Larry, thanks for nothing.
27:54You didn't help solve anything here.
27:57I think we're going to have to paper, rock, scissor even until we get to the...
28:00I think the idea of you three coming together and surprising me.
28:03All right.
28:04Got it.
28:04Because all the options you discussed, honestly, I think I'd probably be fine with all of them.
28:08Okay.
28:08We got it.
28:09And thanks for the wine dispensers.
28:10Yeah, I'm excited for her.
28:12That is going to be so cool.
28:13She's going to love it.
28:13She's going to love it.
28:14Yay.
28:14All right.
28:14Now, you're not allowed to look anywhere else.
28:16Come on.
28:16I'll walk you up.
28:16All right.
28:17Put my hair down.
28:18I really think we could create an office and a kind of lounge hangout area.
28:23But I don't want it to feel dysfunctional and disjointed.
28:25So just got to figure that out.
28:27See you later.
28:27Bye, Larry.
28:31It's all hands on deck to keep this house moving forward.
28:35Cruz painted the exterior an off-white.
28:38While inside, we added French doors to Larry's office to make the entrance feel more sophisticated.
28:45In the kitchen, because we took out the soffit and reworked the footprint, the Lundines now
28:50have so much more storage.
28:52And since they want a modern coastal feel, we're making the island countertop out of white
28:57oak to add some warmth in the space.
29:03I have 65 adults and 17 kids coming tonight for a surprise anniversary party.
29:09Because it's our 20th anniversary, and we're going to have a surprise party and a vow renewal.
29:14Because 20 years is a big deal.
29:15And actually, I had just found this was our engagement announcement, how cute we were.
29:19He proposed at the Eiffel Tower way back in the day.
29:22I'm planning this vow renewal because it's a way to celebrate the past 20 years and where we've been and
29:26where we've come.
29:27But I told Dave that we have family photos tonight, so he thinks we're going to take pictures at the
29:32barn.
29:32He's not expecting anything.
29:34It's going to catch him off guard.
29:41He's coming!
29:42He's coming!
29:45He's coming!
29:46Surprise!
29:49Dave was like, what's happening?
29:56Tonight was a surprise for one of you.
29:58Yes.
29:59But love should always surprise us.
30:02And tonight we honor that and we celebrate that with you on this next chapter of your lives, wherever it
30:08may go.
30:08Dave, do you recommit yourself to Jenny?
30:11I do.
30:13And Jenny, do you recommit yourself to Dave?
30:16I do.
30:17So yeah, 20 years.
30:19Looking back, I wouldn't change one thing.
30:23Not one thing.
30:24Your friendship, working beside you every day.
30:27I would do it all and take it all over and over again.
30:31Dave, could you kiss you, Rob?
30:33I think of how fast life goes and how it's fleeting and, oh, no one else I'd rather ride this
30:41ride with.
30:42I'm so grateful.
30:47I had no idea.
30:48Jenny did such a great job surprising me.
30:52Ah, what a great surprise.
30:55To another year.
31:00With two weeks to go until the Lundians return home, we're putting a lot of focus on Caroline's suite.
31:06Nicole, the artist who painted the tub at one of our plumbing suppliers, is here today painting the colorful custom
31:11mural on the tub that includes butterflies.
31:14Because butterflies are very special and meaningful for Caroline and her family.
31:19In Caroline's bedroom, I want to have something a little bit whimsical.
31:23I want to install some wallpaper, but install it in a different way.
31:27So I have some trim installed in here that will frame out the wallpaper so that the wallpaper actually looks
31:32like artwork on the wall and that'll be really beautiful.
31:38We still have so much to do.
31:40But in Larry's office, we decided to make the desk part of the built-ins because we wanted to make
31:45sure we gave him plenty of space for a few chairs to lounge in as well.
31:51It's looking good in here.
31:53Yes.
31:53The Lundians want a modern coastal kitchen.
31:56So I went all white to make everything feel really bright.
32:00And then balanced with the warmth of the natural wood will give them the look that they're wanting.
32:04All right, looks good.
32:06Let's keep going.
32:08We're adding brick to the arch over where the TV built-in will be.
32:12It'll all be painted, but it just adds that extra bit of texture to the wall.
32:15And outside, we're replacing the outdated front door that Jennifer didn't like.
32:20So once we got the new door installed, I felt like we should just brick in this extra space and
32:26paint it to match the rest of the house so it feels cohesive.
32:29I like the door.
32:30The door looks amazing with the arch.
32:32The color looks so pretty.
32:33It's good.
32:40It's hard to believe we're almost done.
32:43Now we just need to get everything set and placed and, you know, make it look beautiful.
32:47We also need to get all of the cabinet doors, hardware, and appliances installed, including the wine dispenser Larry wants
32:55to surprise Jennifer with and the washer and dryer combo unit for Caroline's suite.
32:59We just have to keep things moving along.
33:02There's so much to be done here, but we're getting closer.
33:10Right here.
33:11All right, do you feel like this TV is big enough?
33:13I sure hope so.
33:15I think we solved how to use this room better.
33:18Yeah, really pretty in here.
33:19It looks so good in here.
33:20I love it.
33:21We are finishing up.
33:22So we've got a little bit of last-minute things to get done.
33:25All the little details.
33:26We want to get everything perfect.
33:28It's really good in here.
33:29I know.
33:30I love this bedroom.
33:31The dog bed turned out so cute.
33:33I love this.
33:34Now you have to make one for home.
33:36It is time.
33:37We are bringing Larry and Jennifer back so that they can come and see their new home.
33:42Yeah.
33:43They're old, new.
33:44They're current, but it's new.
33:45It's not really a new home.
33:46It is a new home.
33:47Well, I feel like it is.
33:48The spaces are beautiful.
33:49I think they're going to love it.
33:53We can't believe it's finally here.
33:54I know.
33:55I never thought I'd be so happy to get out of a hotel room.
33:58Caroline is very ready to get home.
34:00We're getting close.
34:01We're getting close.
34:02All right.
34:03Here we go.
34:07It looks beautiful.
34:11Look at that sidewalk.
34:13Look at this sidewalk.
34:14Oh, my gosh.
34:19Welcome home.
34:22Good to see you.
34:23It looks like a different house.
34:25Look at the doors.
34:27Come up your new walkway.
34:29I love this sidewalk.
34:31I do, too.
34:31And the trees are gone.
34:34That's awesome.
34:35Yes.
34:36So the color, it's not white white, so it doesn't feel stark.
34:40It feels warm.
34:41Love it.
34:41It is perfect.
34:42It is.
34:42And the trim is beautiful.
34:45I'm so glad.
34:45And the doors.
34:46And the doors.
34:47Oh, they're gorgeous.
34:47It's what this entryway always needed.
34:49Yes.
34:50It is.
34:50It is.
34:51It's what it should have been.
34:52Yes.
34:52It completely changes the front of the house.
34:54It is beautiful.
34:56Okay, you ready to go in?
34:57Yes, absolutely.
34:58All right.
34:58After you.
34:59Let's go.
34:59Oh, my gosh.
35:00Oh, my gosh.
35:01Oh, my gosh.
35:03Oh, my gosh.
35:04Oh, my gosh.
35:05Oh, my gosh.
35:05Oh, my word.
35:07Where are we?
35:09We have some color on the walls.
35:11Yeah, yeah.
35:11It's so much lighter.
35:12I love these doors.
35:14This is it.
35:14Do you like the doors?
35:16It's durable, so you don't have to worry about it with a dog.
35:18It is beautiful.
35:20All right, Larry, should we go see your office?
35:22Push it in.
35:23Push it in.
35:24Oh, my gosh.
35:27Holy cow.
35:28Larry is beautiful.
35:30I know you wanted this to be a space where you have an office, but you also have a hangout
35:35area.
35:37And do you still have bookshelves for your memorabilia, since we know that was really important to
35:42you?
35:43The color makes it really cozy.
35:45It's cozy.
35:46Yeah.
35:46Yes.
35:47I don't think you could have picked it any better.
35:49I love it.
35:49Are you going to let me come and sit in here?
35:51Am I allowed?
35:52No.
35:54Are there locks on the door?
35:56Sorry, there's glass.
35:57There's glass.
35:58I can see through the glass.
36:01This is amazing.
36:02We obviously took this wall in, right?
36:04Yes.
36:04This is where your desk used to be, because we gave a little more space over to Caroline,
36:08so she could have everything she needs in her suite.
36:11So I think we should go there next, because I know you're very excited.
36:14I'm excited.
36:15All right.
36:16After you.
36:16It can't be as good as this, though.
36:18Oh.
36:19Oh.
36:19This door.
36:20Going in there.
36:21Oh.
36:22Oh, my gosh.
36:24Oh.
36:28Caroline's suite.
36:29She has a door.
36:30She has her own door now.
36:35Oh.
36:35Oh, my gosh.
36:37Oh.
36:48That's amazing.
36:52I can't even talk.
36:53That's amazing.
36:54Wow.
36:55Oh, this is beautiful.
36:58In this bathroom, Caroline now has space to move around.
37:01She has this accessible tub that's going to be easier for her to use.
37:05It also is very grown up and beautiful, but I also wanted a little bit of whimsy.
37:10Yes.
37:11And I had an artist come and paint it and add the butterflies.
37:15I love that.
37:15And the color, because I know you said she loves color, and of course she loves the butterflies.
37:19What do you think?
37:19You think she'll like it?
37:20She's going to love it.
37:21She is.
37:22It's perfect.
37:23Look, look, look.
37:25I know you wanted a space so that Caroline can do her laundry.
37:28Yeah.
37:28And we talked about this.
37:29This is a washer and dryer combo, so she just has to put the load in, and it does everything.
37:34It starts.
37:34It does everything.
37:35That is amazing.
37:36And I can't believe y'all got it.
37:38All this into this space.
37:39It was challenging.
37:40Okay, so now my favorite, favorite, favorite is her room.
37:44Go ahead.
37:45After you guys.
37:45You guys go first.
37:47Oh, my gosh.
37:49This is perfect.
37:51Look at the color.
37:53She is going to love it.
37:55Oh, look.
37:56Oh.
37:57Oh.
37:57Dave built that so it's a nightstand and a bed for Sandy.
38:02I love that.
38:03That is really perfect because she always, every single night, lays on this side of the
38:07bed.
38:08It looks at him.
38:08That means so much.
38:10She loves her doggy.
38:11This is, is it wallpaper?
38:13It's a wallpaper, yes.
38:14The molding around it.
38:16Just a different install for wallpaper.
38:18It feels like a piece of art.
38:19And then you have all of these little butterflies.
38:21Butterflies.
38:21I feel like you're out in the forest.
38:23Yeah.
38:23Yes.
38:24I always wanted just a more grown-up bedroom for her.
38:29It's beautiful.
38:33Well done.
38:34Okay.
38:35Well done.
38:35Okay, so we got to go see some more of your spaces.
38:37Go to the living room.
38:38Okay, here we go.
38:40Oh.
38:41Oh.
38:42Oh.
38:43Oh, my gosh.
38:44Oh.
38:46Look at your TV.
38:47It's huge.
38:48Is it big enough?
38:49Is it big enough?
38:52Is it okay?
38:53I'm speechless.
38:53Are you speechless?
38:54Is it a big enough TV?
38:57I love it.
38:58Wow.
38:58Look at this.
39:00I love it.
39:00Something unique.
39:01That's not just a typical built-in.
39:03So we added this arch to kind of tie in with the arches out front.
39:06It definitely ties in.
39:08And with the texture of the brick really makes it feel like it belongs here and it's not an
39:13add-on just for the TV.
39:14That whole wall was just so big and just so nothing there.
39:19Yes.
39:20That is incredible.
39:22And everywhere we could we brought the white oak up.
39:24Yeah.
39:24Just so it kind of ties together with the floors.
39:27Yes.
39:27It's just so light and airy.
39:29But cozy at the same time.
39:31All right.
39:31Let me try this out for a second here.
39:33Yeah.
39:34It's good?
39:35This will work.
39:36Yep.
39:37I think this will work.
39:38You look cozy.
39:39I am happy.
39:40This is great.
39:41We're not done.
39:42Go on and check out your beautiful kitchen.
39:45No way.
39:47Oh my gosh.
39:49Oh.
39:50Holy cow.
39:52Oh my gosh.
39:56It is beautiful.
39:59Oh my gosh.
40:00I never even could have.
40:01Look.
40:02I don't even know what to say.
40:05I'm just overwhelmed.
40:06There's so much to see.
40:07What is this?
40:08That is a wine dispenser.
40:09So you can do four bottles.
40:11It chills it.
40:12And it preserves your wine.
40:13Look at that.
40:14No way.
40:15That is incredible.
40:17That's your gift from Larry.
40:19Oh, she's drinking it right now.
40:22Larry, good job.
40:23That's amazing.
40:25Look at all this space.
40:26Look at all this storage.
40:27Oh my gosh.
40:28I feel like I'm in like a magazine.
40:30This is incredible.
40:31And look at the stove.
40:33It's a handmade tile.
40:35Add some texture.
40:35I love this tile.
40:36That is so cool.
40:37Yeah, isn't that pretty?
40:38It really is.
40:39I know you wanted coastal.
40:41Yes.
40:41And I think this kitchen turned out really beautiful and classic.
40:45Very classic.
40:46It's perfect.
40:47And we gave you a larger island.
40:49This is a white oak.
40:50We put a food safe, like a monocoat on it.
40:53Oh.
40:53I love wood.
40:54Naturally, I think that is absolutely beautiful.
40:57Obviously, this used to be a wall.
40:59Yes, it did.
41:00And a door.
41:00And a window.
41:01So we wanted this to be more of a connected space because you spend a lot of time here.
41:06You host a lot of people here.
41:07We host a lot of people.
41:08Yes.
41:08And so you need a dining space.
41:10Is that true?
41:11We did not forget that you like to watch TV.
41:15That is awesome.
41:17This is perfect because she won't be able to tell me what to put on my TV screen right now.
41:22That's hilarious.
41:24And vice versa.
41:25You drink your wine and watch your TV.
41:26That is amazing.
41:28I love the way this opened up.
41:29It is beyond anything I could have imagined.
41:31Okay.
41:32It's going to be hard to decide.
41:33You've got to get Caroline in here.
41:34You can let her see her space.
41:36Yes.
41:36She's nonverbal, so she can't tell us.
41:38Okay.
41:38I'd like to see her reaction.
41:39She's going to be more amazed than we are.
41:40This has been such a joy to do this project for y'all.
41:44Thank y'all so much.
41:45It is beautiful.
41:48Thank you for letting us do this.
41:51Appreciate it.
41:51Jennifer and Larry are amazing.
41:52And it was fun to work with them and bring what they had in their mind to life.
41:57Come on, you want to go see your room?
41:59And also give them what they needed logistically for their family to function well.
42:04It was really special.
42:05It was.
42:05It's the reason we do this.
42:07Look at that.
42:08She got it in herself.
42:09Hey.
42:10That's a big step for her.
42:12You've got to get all the way in.
42:13Get all the way in.
42:14All the way in.
42:16Can I shut this?
42:19Jenny and Dave, I don't even know if they know how much of a difference they made.
42:22It's emotional because for most people, they probably look at it and just see the beauty of it.
42:27For us, we see how it will enhance her life.
42:30It will.
42:30And make a difference in her everyday living.
42:32And where's Sandy going to sleep?
42:33Where's Sandy going to sleep?
42:35Where's Sandy going to sleep?
42:35Right there.
42:36It's just a game changer, you know, for us and her independence.
42:39Caroline, what do you think?
42:41Look at this.
42:41That's a smile.
42:43She likes it.
42:44For us, it's also personal because it's just easier for us to stay at home and have
42:48people come over.
42:49Check this out.
42:50Think we can make some peaches in here?
42:52Now this space gives us the ability to do that even more and better, so we're really, really
42:57happy.
42:58Outstanding.
42:58To good friends and good family, thank you for being a part of this.
43:03Yes.
43:03Many more parties to go.
