Powerful winds made for dangerous fire weather conditions on Feb. 17, as Dr. Reed Timmer showed on the scene of explosive fire growth in Kansas.

00:00I'm just to the west of Mineola.
00:02You can see a massive smoke plume advancing, core of the fire just to the west of Mineola
00:08right now.
00:09Evacuation orders have been triggered.
00:11We've got teams of firefighters trying to battle the advancing firestorm.
00:15The fire plume here mixes down big winds and they also converge around the plume.
00:21So we have got some major winds, even flying debris in there, flying embers as the fire
00:26continues to propagate eastward.
00:28Very dangerous situation here for Inglewood, Kansas.
00:32There you can see the main plume of the fire.
00:34This is to the west of Mineola right now.
00:37Big time winds.
00:38You can see how quick the smoke plume is moving right there.
00:41Almost looks like a wedge tornado.
00:42And we've got firefighters that are setting up here getting ready to battle the flames.
00:47Dangerous fire weather conditions happening to the west of Inglewood.
00:50There's a farmhouse that is threatened just to the south of the county road.
00:54And you can see the orange glow right there.
00:57I just went into that and saw a fire whirl in there.
01:01The winds subside just outside of the plume and inside.
01:04Like the gusting greater than 70 miles an hour as you get a little bit of mixing down
01:08of those winds.
01:08But a very apocalyptic scene here to the west of Inglewood, Kansas with evacuation orders
