00:00Venezuela's carnival has been a traditional festival for Venezuelan people and the country's streets have been no exception.
00:06A correspondent, Brian Mir, has the details.
00:11After days of revelry in Venezuela, carnival is coming to a close.
00:15Across the state of Miranda, centuries-old traditions from different cultures in the Americas and Europe blended together
00:21as people took to the streets with their friends and families to celebrate the traditional holiday
00:26that marks the final days before the start of Lent.
00:32Carnival gives U.S. immense satisfaction.
00:35We are making an allusion to the witches in Germany.
00:42There were several groups of them that were dedicated to brewing beer.
00:49So we are alluding to our history.
00:51We are the beer witches.
00:56One of the traditions in the places around the world that celebrate carnival involves dressing up in costumes,
01:02dancing and marching in parades.
01:04In the city of Los Tacis, students and teachers join together to have fun and honor their local history and
01:10culture.
01:13It's a great carnival atmosphere.
01:16All the children have had fun, they've sung, they've danced.
01:22We hope that many situations like this will happen to help the children in their culture and their development as
01:27human beings.
01:31Carnival in Venezuela is also cherished because it's a four-day weekend.
01:35While some Caracas families traveled down to nearby beaches for the holiday, others enjoyed the local park system with its
01:41swimming pools and sprinklers and special games and cultural activities which were set up, especially for children.
01:49We are in the Kosh Parish, at Hugo Chavez Friest Park, celebrating carnival and peace, in love, in harmony with
01:57our communities, with our children, grandparents, and young people,
02:01holding a series of workshops here in visual arts, painting, crafts, dance, theater, and music,
02:07so that our people feel happy and are looking forward to the imminent arrival of our president, Nicolas Maduro, and
02:13the first combatant, Cilia Flores.
02:18In a country that's still reeling from the imperialist attack of the United States government and kidnapping of its president
02:24on January 3rd,
02:26life goes on, people are calm and enjoying themselves on the streets of Caracas, Venezuela, across the state of Miranda,
02:34and across the country.
