00:00The top golf story this week was 8,000 miles away in Australia and might be
00:06Smiley.
00:06The top story in sports because two decades removed from his arrival as a
00:12pro, which, you know, we saw, we heard the tiger comparisons,
00:16uh, nearly 16 years removed from his first professional win.
00:20Anthony Kim goes head to head with really the last two heavyweights on the
00:24live tour, John Robin, Bryson DeChambeau,
00:26and fires a bogey free 63 to win the tours Adelaide event.
00:31And I think just to kind of rewind a little bit,
00:35because there are so many chapters in the AK story.
00:38Like we all remember the brash younger years, the white belts,
00:42the big belt buckles, uh, you know, the Nike stuff,
00:45evoking comparisons to tiger, the guy that played with no fear,
00:50beat Sergio in the Ryder cup of Valhalla.
00:52Um, and then the complete disappearance from golf, right?
00:56Like, and associated with that, the struggles with addiction,
01:00the struggles with mental health that he's, you know,
01:02now come out and talked about publicly and the years that have followed and
01:05just the way he wants to make that impact on other people.
01:07And then I remember when, when, when Liv first came on the scene,
01:11there are all these persistent rumors that we could,
01:14Anthony Kim come out of retirement, you know,
01:16could the tour try to, to, to woo him this way to take him away from Liv.
01:19Um, then they're, they're all the, the sort of the unfounded rumors as well.
01:23Well,
01:23he won't do it because of this insurance policy that we don't really know any
01:26details about.
01:27We'll leave, won't he?
01:28And then February, 2024.
01:31Uh, and by the way, I'm trying to do this AK, this AK segment,
01:34I'm watching Johnson Wagner.
01:35He's about to hit the Jacob Bridgman shot off the beach here at Pebble beach.
01:41This is so good.
01:42Um, we'll, we'll update you on the Johnson Wagner shot when they come back.
01:46But, but then February, 2024, Liv announces a Anthony Kim is indeed coming back.
01:52He's going to be a wild card.
01:53I got to unearth my AK wild card hat somewhere around here in my archives that
01:56I've, that I broke out the masters that year.
01:58Um, we covered it on the show.
02:00We wondered how his game was going to be.
02:01And those first two years, the answer was not very good,
02:05or at least not the game that we were used to seeing and remembering for all
02:08the AK highlights.
02:08Like the best finish he notched in two years,
02:10there was a tie for 25th and not a single point scored in their sort of
02:14ranking system.
02:15And he gets relegated outside of that top 48 zone at the end of last year,
02:20but then comes back and starts 2026 with the weekend that was supposed to be
02:25the century.
02:26The only golf that was on was the live promotions event.
02:28Watch Anthony Kim win that event to get back on the tour as a wild card.
02:32And then you grinded your way through that too.
02:34I really did.
02:35I told you I was going to watch it by golly.
02:37I watched it.
02:38Uh, we, we, we watched that happen.
02:40And then, and then of course, Patrick Reed leaves the live golf tour.
02:44And now there's an open spot in the four aces.
02:47You plug Anthony Kim right, right in, which is hilarious.
02:49Like Anthony Kim and Dustin Johnson on the same team golf event.
02:53Like put me at a time capsule.
02:54Like tell me what year that is.
02:55Cause if that's like 2000, you know, that's 2008 I'm there.
02:59Um, but so, so he fills that spot in the four aces and now we're sitting here
03:04having witnessed probably one of the most improbable comeback stories in the,
03:08in the sports history, just given all that history, all that went on and where
03:12he's at 40 years old now.
