00:00You get to the PGA Tour and, man, do you ever go back and just look at that season and just look at your results and be like,
00:05man, life came at me so quickly that rookie season.
00:08I mean, first of all, how good a goal is he?
00:10How good a goal for you playing that rookie year?
00:11I mean, you had, I think it was up to like seven.
00:15Top threes, you know, you were contentioned at two major championships being the PGA.
00:20And then also the open championship, you had other runner up finishes, you know, beginning of the year in the fall.
00:25That wraparound and Jackson going up against Sam Burns and then the Genesis, which is one of the best.
00:30Like, you know, PGA Tour events coming out as a rookie, like, man, I get into this and getting contention there.
00:35Is that where it kind of sparked the confidence was leaving L.A.?
00:37Or did you already kind of have it leaving Jackson?
00:40I would say I definitely had some of it leaving Jackson.
00:44Yeah.
00:45I really felt like I not necessarily should have won, but.
00:50I was right there and had every chance to win.
00:52And to me, that was.
00:54That.
00:55That was just kind of evidence that if I stuck what I did.
00:59And trusted that I was at least going to put myself in position.
01:04You know, on a somewhat regular basis, I felt like because I didn't feel like I did anything.
01:09Special that week, I just avoided some mistakes, you know, and played some good golf.
01:14It wasn't like.
01:14It wasn't like I made everything in sight.
01:17It wasn't like I was, you know, doing anything crazy.
01:19It just was it was good golf.
01:21And to me, you know, that's that's not.
01:24Not necessarily one of the biggest events of the year, but there's plenty of good players in the field and it's a good solid.
01:29straightforward golf course, so I felt like I felt like even even though maybe it's not one of the.
01:34fields that you would have said is an elite field.
01:38It still felt to me like if.
01:39I could play that kind of golf on that golf course, I could do it a lot of places and then please.
01:44Riviera is huge.
01:45I mean, that's about as big of a stage as you get in a non major.
01:49And I've, you know, ever since then, I've just loved it there.
01:54I think that.
01:54It's just kind of a was a perfect match.
01:56I was playing great.
01:57I like the golf course and.
01:59You know, to hang around the weed for for that long with Joaquin doing what he was doing.
02:04That week, it was a shootout that week when it was ridiculous.
02:07He like, well, I remember 62 one day.
02:09Didn't you show like I think I'm 62 on the yeah, and I was four back.
02:14I don't.
02:14Remember, I just remember I remember making the turn on Saturday.
02:19And Joaquin made two on number 10 to get to 21 under.
02:24And I didn't know what to say.
02:26Yeah.
02:26I mean, it's crazy.
02:27A par 70, right?
02:28Yes, I think.
02:29I think maybe 71, 71, 71, so he's still got 60.
02:34Under the first two rounds and then was five under the 10.
02:38Yeah.
02:38Which is just kind of something.
02:39You don't really do there.
02:40So, I mean, yeah, it is one of those.
02:44It's.
02:44You know, looking back, I played great and.
02:49You know, I haven't had a result as strong since then there.
02:54I think I've had a couple.
02:54Around 20th.
02:56But I mean, it's just a place that I feel like I'm always going to have some kind of.
02:59Chance, I love it there.
03:01And I think it suits me pretty well.
03:02And when I look at the rest of your rookie.
03:04Season and just winning in general, I think about this all the time.
03:08First off, like to win golf.
03:09You have to be in contention, like on the back nine, of course, and sometimes.
03:14Like you need a little bit of luck, like you you need some guys to play poorly and then
03:18you need a city to take advantage.
03:19Other guys playing bad other days, it's like four guys are running and playing well.
03:24And you have to go and shoot 31 on the back nine.
03:27Yeah, I feel like when I look at your rookie season as.
03:29A whole, I feel like you had moments where you kind of experienced it all like.
03:34You had days in which you played good enough to win golf tournaments and didn't win.
03:38And then you had other days where.
03:39Like you had opportunities to win and it just didn't quite work out for you down the stretch.
03:44Yeah.
03:44How frustrating was it after that season being like, man, I just, you know, I got in contention major.
03:49Championships and had this incredible season and make the tour championship.
03:53Get invited to be on.
03:54The president's cup.
03:55But then you're like, I don't have any trophies in the cabinet.
03:57What the heck happened?
03:58Like, you know, it had to be.
03:59He's so annoying.
04:01Yeah, it's, it's definitely some of both.
04:03I mean, you hate to, you hate to.
04:04Look at it that way, but it's kind of an unavoidable feeling, you know, to have.
04:10It's exactly what I said.
04:11Someone asked me at the PGA championship, you know, when.
04:14Are you going to win a tournament basically?
04:16And I said, I don't know.
04:17I mean, I played okay today.
04:19And I'm sure one of these times I'll shoot 31 on the back nine, like you said, and.
04:24And when, and I went to the British open, shot 31 and lost by one.
04:28So.
04:29I'm on the shot 30.
04:31So it's, it's just one of those things.
04:33I mean, it does have.
04:34The lineup, it does take some fortune.
