00:00I said, oh, Lord, Jesus, it's a fire.
00:02Sports Radio 610 presents The Drive with Sterner and Kukli.
00:08It's the 5 o'clock fire.
00:10Ah, it is 5 o'clock.
00:12Congratulations.
00:12Hopefully, you're off work.
00:14Luckily for you, old dirty show, T-Mill, a.k.a. Psycho T, have the latest.
00:19What?
00:20And the latest is Tyler Milner.
00:23He is super excited about a promotion that the Texas Rangers are doing.
00:27Stop it.
00:27I mean, it's the most exciting thing.
00:29First topic.
00:30I'm just saying.
00:31He is fired up about what the.
00:35And, like, I've never in my life seen, like, Tyler, I believe, during the break, said,
00:41I think they automatically deserve the silver boot just because.
00:45Get the hell out of here.
00:46Because.
00:47Arlington plow.
00:49The bloody jersey is the best promo item in Texas sports history.
00:55I believe Tyler typed that.
00:57Did not say that.
00:58They made a bunch of, they made a bunch of replicas.
01:01No, come on, come on.
01:01Get in there.
01:02Tell them about it.
01:03I'll lay it out for you.
01:04You're fired up.
01:04Come on.
01:05Act like you're fired up about it.
01:06I'm not fired up.
01:07Yes, you are.
01:07No.
01:08I hate Arlington.
01:08Listen with your image.
01:09Do you just kind of think.
01:11If we could get tickets for that night, do you want to go and get a jersey?
01:14Hell no.
01:15Come on.
01:16Maybe if the Astros are playing.
01:17Come on.
01:18You don't want to get that jersey?
01:19You don't put that in a man cave?
01:20What Rod is talking about is the Arlington Rangers have a promotional night coming up this baseball
01:26season where they're going to be giving away replica jerseys of the Nolan Ryan bloody
01:31Rangers jersey.
01:32When he took a comebacker off the grill, bled all over his white jersey, kept on pitching,
01:38of course, because Nolan Ryan's a badass.
01:40But they're giving away the replica jerseys with like fake bloodstains on it.
01:44And I must admit, it's pretty cool.
01:48It's pretty, pretty cool.
01:50It is, man.
01:51Just say it.
01:53I can admit that, but I ain't going to say it's the best.
01:56The Rangers did a great job.
01:59The Rangers marketing team did a tremendous job.
02:02You can leave the marketing team off, but just the Rangers.
02:05Was that not after he kicked Robin Ventura's ass?
02:07No, a lot of people get those confused.
02:09No, he didn't have no blood on him because Ventura didn't get nothing in, you know.
02:12That was a great point.
02:14Had that sucker in a headlock on the work.
02:16Headlock punching.
02:18That's how the freaks play.
02:19Now he makes great beef.
02:21Well, good for you, man.
02:22Robin or?
02:23Nolan Ryan.
02:24Nolan Ryan.
02:25Because he made great beef, huh?
02:27All right.
02:28Well, good for you, man.
02:29Congratulations, man.
02:30And whenever Tyler Milner can take a look at the Texas Rangers and give them a salute,
02:39as he just did.
02:40It's a good day, huh?
02:41No, I mean, it's good, man.
02:43It's good.
02:44I can admit it.
02:45Where do they get off by calling themselves Texas?
02:48Anyway.
02:49A-holes, turds.
02:50Just took the whole state name, huh?
02:52Where do they get off?
02:53Who the hell do they think they are?
02:54Clowns.
02:56Couldn't have been the Dallas Rangers.
02:57All right.
02:58But no, man.
02:59Good news here.
03:00And this is one you want to be looking out for because tomorrow you'll get a lot more
03:04information about this from the horse's mouth.
03:08It's Texans president, Mike Tonin.
03:11He will join Payne and Pendergast tomorrow, 9 a.m.
03:14to discuss the latest.
03:15And the latest is that the Houston Texans, this according to Adam Schefter, have announced
03:20that they are building a sports and entertainment destination that will include their headquarters
03:25and training complex.
03:27It's going to be an 83-acre project up in northwest Houston.
03:32Bridgeland, have you ever heard?
03:33I've never, I've not heard of Bridgeland.
03:35You maybe, maybe you have?
03:36Yeah, I mean, I've heard of Bridgeland High School.
03:38Oh, the high school.
03:39I've never, I don't know that I've ever been up that way, but I mean, I know.
03:43But you haven't heard of Bridgeland, Bridgeland High School.
03:46But the district will be called the Toro District.
03:51Let's stick a pin in that.
03:52The Toro District is what that will be called.
03:56But it's scheduled to open in 2029.
03:58Projected, this according to Aaron Wilson, projected to generate $34 million in long-term
04:04economic impact and create more than 17,000 jobs.
04:09Clint, this is a big thing that the Texans and the McNeers broke.
04:14And I'm interested to see what this looks like and what this brings and what this entertainment
04:21district will look like.
04:23Yeah, it's going to be interesting.
04:25I mean, I think this has been a long time coming.
04:26I don't know how people are going to, you know, respond to moving so far away.
04:30Anytime you do that, obviously, some folks are bothered by it.
04:35Yeah, change.
04:36Obviously, there's going to be a crew up north that absolutely love it.
04:39There's going to be a crew out this window here to the south of us that don't like it.
04:42But, look, I think it's a great move.
04:47I think it's the Texans, I mean, really, as an organization, the McNeers, as an ownership
04:54group, I mean, they're just taking this thing to a whole other level.
04:57And you've mentioned it multiple times.
04:59I mean, you go around to some of the newer venues, if you will, or the newer stadiums,
05:03and there's either, you know, like, I mean, whether it's, you know, shops or bars or entertainment
05:13districts all around and as a part of the stadium itself.
05:19And it's just an experience going down there where, look, there's nothing wrong with going
05:22over here where you're going for a game.
05:24You're going for the rodeo.
05:25I know it's just a matter of getting that, you know, doing that.
05:27But this is one where I think the McNeers can actually own all of it and operate all
05:31of it and do a million different things out of it.
05:34And it'll be the home of the Texans.
05:36It'll be something everybody's proud of.
05:37So, yeah, it's going to be cool, man.
05:38Like, I hope it's another spot and area, like, where you can, like, people can have a good
05:45time.
05:45Family, whatever, have a good time.
05:46Yeah, I think so.
05:48Toro District.
05:49Good with that?
05:50Well, I mean, that's just a hell of a commitment to Toro.
05:56But what kind of commitment does Toro have to make to the Toro District?
05:59Does he always have to be there?
06:01Jeff, I'm strolling around.
06:02I mean, he's got to have his face on that thing as soon as you roll in that thing.
06:06Hell with his face.
06:06His ass has got to be there.
06:08He's got to be grazing.
06:09And I don't want a second Toro.
06:11I want Toro.
06:12He needs to be there.
06:13Well, I mean, this is going to be, this is going to have the opportunity.
06:16I think at every entryway, main entryway, there should be a big metal bull.
06:22So, the live version of Toro, not the mascot.
06:27That can get dangerous.
06:29No, no, no.
06:30I didn't mean live.
06:31I meant that.
06:31There's got to be a signature drink.
06:33I didn't mean a guy standing on two feet.
06:35I meant just a bull.
06:36Like, what's outside the, what would that be?
06:37The Westgate over here?
06:38Yeah.
06:39Like that.
06:39Like the herd of bulls or however you want to couch it.
06:42Like, those should be all over the damn place.
06:44I like it.
06:44Big, metal, bad, I mean, just, I mean, testes dragging the ground type.
06:49I mean, it should be just.
06:50Yeah.
06:50We don't need all that.
06:51You know, I think it'd be tremendous.
06:53I'll never forget.
06:54We were at.
06:54Running of the bulls, baby.
06:55All over the damn place.
06:56We were in the press box, and they had, like, them graphics running on the field, like
07:00bulls running on the field.
07:01And he said, what the hell?
07:04You remember?
07:05A robot.
07:06He thought it was.
07:08He thought it was.
07:09I said, no, man, that's just computer generated.
07:12Technology is wilding.
07:13He said, whoa, man.
07:15That was crazy, man.
07:16I saw it on the TV, and I started looking for it on the field, and I was like, what's
07:19going on here?
07:19It was on the TV.
07:20Just running out of the bulls?
07:21Yeah, I think Cal should have been selfish on this.
07:24It's just going to be called Cal's District.
07:26That's what I think.
07:27I think Cal.
07:28I mean, they're damn sure there ought to be a steakhouse in there called, you know,
07:33cookout with Cal or whatever the hell we were in.
07:35Yeah, that's good, man.
07:35Yeah, this ought to be.
07:37But, no, I'm really interested in seeing, like, what's the entertainment part of this.
07:42Like, obviously, their headquarters and the training complex is going to be first class.
07:47I'm sure that's going to be that.
07:49But I'm intrigued.
07:51When they're talking about to generate 34 million long-term, 17,000 jobs, I wonder what
07:57that all entails and what that area will look like.
08:01That is – that's kind of intriguing.
08:05No, it's just the headquarters, right?
08:06So, it's a practice.
08:07It's like the Star – the Cowboys have the Star.
08:09It's going to be something similar to that.
08:10But they're building a sports and entertainment district, like a district.
08:15I think it's supposed to be around it, yeah.
08:17Well, I think that – one of the cool things, you know, obviously, Jerry built hotels and
08:22everything around the practice field there at the Star.
08:24But one of the cool things is that indoor – that indoor, you know, event center they have
08:30where you – like, you can host playoff games and stuff like that where there's not – I mean,
08:34obviously, it's not big.
08:35I mean, it's big enough to do an NFL game.
08:37But it's big enough to have training camp there and have fans.
08:40It's big enough to do – you know, host high school games and things like that.
08:44That's – that'd be cool.
08:45I'm sure that'll be a part of it.
08:46We'll find out tomorrow morning, 9 a.m.
08:47Absolutely.
08:48Right here, the president, he will join Payne and Pendergast coming up tomorrow, 9 a.m. sharp,
08:56right here on Sports Radio 610.
08:58Five o'clock fire.
09:00All right.
09:02Tyler was there yesterday, and hopefully best bets went better.
09:05We'll talk about that coming up here in the next segment.
09:09But Tyler was there last night.
09:11Kawhi Leonard gets 19 points in the fourth quarter.
09:15That – Clint, last night, that felt like one of the most disappointing losses,
09:22and it really sucks to go into the all-star break.
09:26With that, that's the last game they'll play until they come back after the all-star break.
09:32Clint, just the feel – the feel – and we talked about this a little bit with Brandon yesterday.
09:39The feel of this team that came into yesterday, the three seed in the West, like, you just –
09:45you feel like they have – they are in desperate need of a shift or some changes coming up after
09:52the all-star break.
09:53It just – it just doesn't feel right.
09:55And last night's game was a – they're better than that team.
09:58Like, the Clippers, they've traded away.
10:00The Clippers have thrown up the white flag.
10:02And it's the second of a back-to-back.
10:05I'm surprised Kawhi played.
10:07And you had a double-digit lead, and you couldn't hold that.
10:10And you made mistakes from the coaching staff to the players.
10:13It's just – they've got to figure something out.
10:16I tell you – I mean, because when you're third in the West, it's hard to sit here and really
10:20complain.
10:20But, I mean, to me, this team right now, going to the break, it strikes me as a team that
10:27as the better teams in the West
10:31and really in the NBA, as the season, you know, draws to an end and the games get more important
10:38and you know the really good players and really good teams, they stomp on the gas.
10:43They get things figured out.
10:44They all start playing defense.
10:49I just – I don't know that the Houston Rockets have anywhere to go.
10:55Yeah.
10:56You know what I mean?
10:57Like, what is that –
10:58They've got to figure out it.
10:59They need to figure something out to try to get somewhere to go.
11:01Well, what does that look like for the Rockets?
11:03I guess I'm saying I feel like all of those teams around the Rockets that are expected to be in
11:11the mix down the stretch,
11:12I feel like they're going to get significantly more serious and significantly better after the All-Star break.
11:18And I really – I just don't – I can't see where the Rockets are going to do that.
11:23I mean, Kevin Garnett's – I mean, Kevin Garnett.
11:24Kevin Durant's already playing.
11:26I hope Garnett's not playing long minutes.
11:27But Kevin Durant's already playing long minutes.
11:30I mean, he's playing back-to-backs.
11:32He's trying his damnedest to lead the show.
11:36I mean, I just don't know what else – what else they can do to make that happen.
11:41And I don't see the guys that aren't contributing in a major way.
11:44It's not like there's going to be some switch that they're going to be able to flip to all of
11:49a sudden do it.
11:50So, a little nervous about the Rockets on the back side of the All-Star break.
11:52Yeah.
11:53You know what?
11:53Maybe that's something we can talk about tomorrow.
11:55It's a little long-term tease.
11:56Maybe something to talk about tomorrow.
11:58What can they do to pick – this can't just be a, hey, man, hey, guys, just play better.
12:04Like, we got – like, not only, yes, just play better, but, like, we got to figure something out, right?
12:09Like, a man of times, he's not going to change how he's shooting in the second half.
12:13The odds of that aren't, right?
12:15And Jabari Smith is not going to just all of a sudden just, you would assume, take off.
12:20Now, you know, Shingun has kind of been the word I've said – the phrase I've said before,
12:26leaking oil here a little bit late.
12:28So, hopefully you think he can play better.
12:30Had another 16-9 performance yesterday.
12:33But, yeah, they've got to do more than just, hey, guys, just pick it up.
12:38They've got to do something to shake something up.
12:40And maybe we can figure out what some of that is coming up.
12:43Maybe we'll do that tomorrow.
12:44But they go into the break blowing that lead last night against the Clippers
12:49and had a chance to sweep that two-game home back-to-back that Tyler went to.
12:56Maybe that was it.
12:57Five o'clock fire.
13:00All right, Kevin Durant, after the game, was not only talking about that game in the first half,
13:06but he was also asked about the All-Star game coming up.
13:10And this is around that time frame where a lot of the players are going to get annoyed
13:14because they're about to get run down about how they are in All-Star games.
13:20And Kevin Durant, when he was asked about them competing in the All-Star game,
13:25said that he joked on Wednesday that he was playing with an old head squad
13:29along with LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kawhi Leonard, and company.
13:34And he said, and this has been picking up a lot,
13:37is you should ask the Europeans and the world if they're going to compete.
13:42And he laughed while he said that.
13:43He said, if you look at Luka and Jokic now, let's go back and look at what they do in
13:50All-Star games.
13:51Is that competition?
13:51So we haven't questioned what they are doing, but we're all questioning the old heads in the America.
13:56So he went in there and let it rip.
13:59My thing is, one, I think, Kevin, for you, one, you and LeBron, you guys are,
14:06you, LeBron, and Steph are the face and have been the face of the league.
14:09So, of course, they're going to get it more.
14:12Now, I do agree, Jokic and Luka may be the two best players in the league, arguably,
14:18and they should get it because they sure as hell ain't playing hard in those games.
14:23But I understand they get that.
14:25But I just think people just have, like, memory or decided memory loss.
14:30Like, we need to get back to the days of Kobe.
14:33All right, I think you should probably track some of those late All-Star games that Kobe was a part
14:37of.
14:37I believe Kobe's last one they scored in the 190s, and they almost got to 200 when it's like they
14:44ain't playing no defense out there.
14:46So, like, I mean, I think this All-Star game has been getting silly for a while now in terms
14:54of not competing.
14:55Well, I mean, look, the NBA, I mean, if we want to get into that conversation, the NBA has some
15:01problems.
15:02Well, they have a problem with this.
15:04That's why they're trying to change it.
15:06But it's not even – I mean, like, so often we can focus in on the All-Star game if
15:11we want to.
15:12But, I mean, regular season NBA leaves a lot to be desired when these guys are capable of what they're
15:17doing.
15:17I don't think that's no secret.
15:18I don't think it's a secret.
15:19Then you tack on the load management.
15:21Some are more severe than others.
15:23And then you talk about the All-Star game and just how it's become a joke.
15:26So, it's hard to blame guys for the All-Star game becoming a joke.
15:31Again, it's just additional risks that you're taking.
15:34And so, it's hard to look at that and go, boy, this is a major problem.
15:37But I think when you look at the overall problem is, man, anything beyond late season basketball or playoff basketball
15:45is –
15:46I think is less of a product than what they're capable of putting out there.
15:50And it's gradually getting worse and worse and worse and more acceptable to play less and load manage more and
15:59all that kind of stuff.
15:59So, I mean, that is a – I think that is a very real problem that the NBA has overall.
16:03And the All-Star game is just a piece of that.
16:05Yeah, and I think KD, he's locked and loaded, ready for –
16:09Oh, yeah.
16:09For the All-Star game thing.
16:11Because he's one of the – like, he's the one – him, I would say those three, him, Steph, and
16:15LeBron, because they've been the faces.
16:17They get it that way.
16:18I'm just saying – I understand that.
16:21When the league is – when there's an issue, it's not surprising that the faces of your league are the
16:27ones that they're talking about.
16:28Yeah, yeah.
16:28But I would understand what his thought is.
16:31Like, hey, man, shoot, we was putting up almost 200 points when Kobe and Garnett was out there.
16:36Why giving them hell like that?
16:38But I guess maybe your point is maybe the All-Star game was the only thing that people were pissed
16:43off about as much as others.
16:44Well, I think – I just think the source of people being pissed off, I think, is slowly but surely
16:51growing.
16:51And the All-Star game is just the blatant just here it is in your face that everybody wants to
16:57talk about.
16:58And the rest of the NBA world stops while this goes on, and so there's no distraction.
17:02So, yeah, look, I think it's real overall.
17:05And I would love – I don't care who it is, whether it's the Europeans or the Americans or old
17:11ahead, whoever the hell it is.
17:12This – I would just love for one of those teams, hey, let's go play this game like a –
17:16Yeah, it's clearly an issue.
17:18Let's just go D these some bucks up and hold them to 80 points.
17:21Yeah, they've changed the format 15 times, it feels like, in the last four years.
17:26I don't even know what it is right now, to be honest with you.
17:27Oh, so they split those teams up.
17:29They've got, like, the international team.
17:31They've got, like –
17:31The world.
17:32Yeah, the world.
17:32They've got world, European, and old heads.
17:35No, the world, and they've got, like, old heads.
17:38They've got, like, rising stars, and then I think there's another – like, another younger team that isn't LeBron and
17:46Steph.
17:47Yeah, they're playing a four-team round-robin thing now is what they've rolled through.
