00:00And now it's time for First Things First, where our own Zoe Cadman checks in with the
00:04connections of Plutarch and Meaning after their wins this weekend at Santa Anita on
00:08the road to the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks.
00:16Because we celebrate Meaning taking down the last version is here with Aaron Wellman from
00:21Eclipse Thoroughbreds.
00:22You are grinning from ear to ear, and it's not just because it's Super Bowl Sunday.
00:27Tell me your thoughts about going into this race, bringing Flavion Pratt out here.
00:32Of course, he doesn't miss the sunshine, does he?
00:35No, I think Flavion's all too happy to come out to California.
00:38But yeah, look, this is a filly that we've thought highly of from day one.
00:43And for her to go out and do what she did today off the layoff since the Breeders' Cup,
00:48beat the champ, beat a really good filly like Explora, it just validates your opinion.
00:53You're happy for the horse.
00:54You're happy for the whole team, Michael McCarthy, and all of our partners, of course.
00:59Three on the bounce for Michael today.
01:01You said something to Michael when he walked off, make sure he sticks with her.
01:05This is a filly you've had high hopes for all along.
01:08Yeah, absolutely.
01:09She's one that rose to the top of the class right from the beginning.
01:13And Flavion was able to come out today, so we're appreciative of that, and hopefully
01:17he'll stick with her.
01:18And they're off in the Robert B. Lewis.
01:23Living up to his namesake, Plutarch was extra game today, giving Florent Giroux a stakes victory
01:27here.
01:28And I heard you talking to Bob.
01:29No problem for more distance for this Colt, right?
01:32No, definitely.
01:33I think the longer the better.
01:34He's a horse who finally put it together this year.
01:36It looked like last year, you know, some of his replay and what Bob told me.
01:41It looked like the horse was still a little green trying to figure out, you know, what was
01:43going on during the race.
01:44But today I felt like he bought very lovely for me, put me in a great spot.
01:48And when I asked him, you know, down the line, he responded right away.
01:51He got waited on the horse, you know, inside he did a little bit.
01:54But as soon as he came by me, next to me, my horse, you know, gave me another gear.
01:59So it was nice.
02:00Did he ever put his ears back?
02:01I feel like he had his ears up the entire time.
02:03Yeah, pretty much.
02:04That's a good plan to have.
02:06You know, usually when you do that, you know, that means you still have like, you know,
02:09some horsepower underneath you.
02:10So it's a good sign.
02:11What a great welcome to California for you also to be in the biggest barn here.
02:15And now you're on the Derby Trail.
02:17Yeah, exactly.
02:17You know, when I came here, you know, that's what I was expecting, you know, to be honest,
02:21to find a Derby horse.
02:22And there's not many guys who have Derby horses here, you know.
02:26And usually, you know, Bob is an amazing trainer, you know.
02:30He won the Derby, you know, six times.
02:32So the record speaks for himself.
02:34So to have the honor, you know, and the opportunity to ride for him, you know, it's a big honor.
02:41Well, champions find champions.
02:42We know it wouldn't take you too long to find a good horse like this.
02:45Florent's on the road to the Kentucky Derby.
02:46Plutarch is on the road to the Kentucky Derby.
02:48Bob Baffert has several those under his belt.
02:50That was his eighth consecutive win in the Bob Lewis.
02:53And for all of you Hunger Games fans, may the odds be ever in your favor.
