Transcript
00:00On this week's edition of First Things First, I caught up with owner Lee Searing.
00:09We celebrate Westwood, who takes down the San Pesquale, here with his owner, Lee Searing.
00:14He was third as a maiden last year in the Santa Anita Derby, right behind Baeza, by the way.
00:19We'll get to him just in a moment.
00:21What went into taking the blinkers off for him today?
00:24Well, John doesn't share too much.
00:26However, whatever little tweaks he did, this horse tries really hard.
00:31He probably tried hard today, and, you know, he deserves the win.
00:35He's a good horse.
00:36You've been around an awful long time.
00:38This, obviously, is one of the preps for the big cap, is this kind of...
00:42If you had your say, would this be a prep for the big cap?
00:47Now, I wouldn't know that. You know better than I do.
00:50You talk to John more than I do, too.
00:51So, you know, having gotten over Express Train and a handicap so many times, if this horse ran like, I've got to try it.
00:59So, he's, you know, going to be fun.
01:02You've got to be awfully proud of him.
01:03Let's just touch quickly on Baeza.
01:05He's back in training here at Santa Anita.
01:08What kind of a campaign can we expect for that champ?
01:11Well, the horse is back on the track, his first work, and the standing handicap's probably where to go.
01:18But he's going to get, you know, five or so races before he becomes a stallion.
01:23So, you know, we're going to enjoy every one of them.
01:25Got to travel a little bit, but that'll be okay.
01:27Thanks for your time, and congratulations with Westwood.
02:00This weekend at Santa Anita with the Bob Lewis, as well as The Last Virginus on Sunday.
