00:01I'm on a hunt to help find everyday Kiwis their perfect country house.
00:08Things are a little different out here in the country.
00:10You still have the hustle and bustle.
00:15Your neighbours can sometimes be a bit noisy.
00:18Time moves a little slower.
00:20But you don't get this in the city.
00:34Te Awamutu is home to Liam and Sam, second cousins, first home buyers.
00:40These two young tradies are pooling their funds to try to move out of home for the first time with a few of their mates, helping them pay off the mortgage.
00:46So, today I've got the job. I'm on the tools to help them find the perfect place.

01:01When I heard I was working with a couple of second cousins, a couple of tradies in their twenties, I thought this is going to be a fun day.

01:14Yeah, I'm Liam and I'm a Sparky and we're both 20 years old.

01:19Second cousins, but also best mates.

01:37We're able to keep each other accountable, which is pretty cool.

01:40We both have a little bit of money saved up and, you know, when you have money you tend to spend it, so we thought it would be pretty wise to invest our money into something that we could eventually get back from it or make some money, you know, instead of paying rent for someone else.
01:55We always wanted a flat, but we didn't really want to pay someone else, you know, pay someone else our rent.
02:01We would prefer to be paying the bank and getting it back.

02:04At the end of whenever that is.
02:06Budget will be around $750 would probably be our max.

02:22Located in the heart of New Zealand's Waikato region, Te Awa Mutu offers a relaxed country lifestyle, perfect for two young guys like Liam and Sam, who are looking to enter the housing market.
02:34And since our buyers love the outdoors, well, the scenery is not half bad either.
02:39With plenty of mates in the area, lots of room to move, and just a 25 minute drive from Hamilton, Te Awa Mutu is the perfect spot for Liam and Sam to buy.
02:49The home I brought you to to start with, I think it's an absolute beauty.
02:52This is built in the 50s, but it's recently been renovated and they have done such an amazing job.

03:03So, we're talking top quality work.

03:08Bearing in mind, yeah, main road, so you can probably hear the trucks going past, but the home itself.

03:15Golf course being there, you know, jump on wherever we want after work, weekends.

03:45But for what is a small-ish home, 99 square metres, it actually feels quite spacious in this living area.

06:19You obviously know a little bit about the housing market in Teowamutu.

06:28This place, I reckon you'd be able to secure this one for somewhere in the late sixes.

06:41I think the price of the house, I think that's sitting exactly where we thought it would sit, eh?

07:19We've toured one house already, but the second option has a really great backyard space that I reckon the boys are gonna love.

11:06potential so switch the laundry where it currently is out to the garage use that as a bedroom

11:15not just a cool basketball hoop here you've got lots of space and i'd say lots of space for let's
11:21call them gatherings so we don't scare the neighbors too much what do you think this place is worth
11:29you've seen the first house figured out what that was worth how does this one sit do you think well
11:34with that extra bedroom definitely probably 700 hopefully max but yeah 700 i reckon that's about
11:41about the right price i reckon okay yeah yeah okay i can tell you it's going to auction and they're
11:46looking for offers starting from 680. 680. so around what you're thinking in my mind i thought it'd be a
11:54bit more expensive than what it was but i mean that is just what it's starting at so i guess we'll have
11:58to wait and see for auction i think it's time for us to head to house number three and see if i can get

12:47shucks you know honestly it looks um this looks good hey yeah you're a bit of a gardener are you well could be
12:55lots of space downstairs you can see there's a single entry into that garage but it's actually
12:59deceptive decept deceptive deceptive uh deceiving deceiving yeah yeah you can see single garage
13:07entry but it's actually quite deceiving because there's a large double garage space in there for
13:10a workshop in terms of again who you'd be you know having around as mates as friends is there any
13:16you know special people in your lives that might be visiting regularly oh potentially well i do have a
13:23girlfriend oh yeah okay i'm still working on that one yeah a few years behind me so so you're gonna
13:30need to get her approval on this sort of purchase it's a pretty big step buying your first home yeah
13:34potentially yeah there's something i have to think about okay what do you reckon she'd think of a
13:37place like this she'll enjoy this big open home um the brick should probably love that yeah and mate i
13:42mean sam if you've got a house like this that's a pretty good selling point that's a great time yeah

14:18continuing as we walk through downstairs obviously before we came up the stairs you saw that big space
14:23down there with the garaging and that separate little room off to the side yeah the garage has
14:27a fair bit of potential there we could potentially knock up a few walls in there put an extra room
14:32maybe yeah yeah we'll have to talk about that well yeah have to talk with someone a bit more qualified
14:36than me to um see if we can actually do that but yeah a lot of potential in there
14:43it's a really warm space in here you can feel that it holds the warmth being that classic brick and
14:47tile yeah i love the view from the kitchen yeah yeah the kitchen's great

16:20those mid 700 750 potentially yeah i'm reckoning about the same yeah 700 750 yeah yeah we think this
16:29one would go for bang on 750 wow yeah look at us it is it is the max of our budget but so it'd be hard
16:39to do something else after that especially if we wanted to add something onto the um the place like

17:22we've been doing for about 22. 22 years so you must have seen a lot of people coming through here and
17:27having some of the most amazing days of their lives right here on your property absolutely and we just
17:32love it and we just love seeing people having a lovely day i've been having a wander around and
17:36honestly every single place i turn there's another photo opportunity another beautiful area for a
17:43for a reception for a for a ceremony what's your favorite little spot for people to have photos or
17:47a ceremony do you think lately they've been choosing over there amongst those trees and that and it's
17:52been looking really you know farmy and rustic with the um archers that sort of family look it's just
17:57been you know the last few have been actually farmers and they've actually wanted us to put the cows
18:01behind the behind them so they wrangle the cows for the photo opportunity yeah that's the one yeah so
18:07it's been yeah they just love it i love this whole truck here as well but that's popular for photos
18:11absolutely it's not just weddings that you run here at rosenville though is it now we do birthday
18:17parties we don't do 21st but most of the other birthday parties 70th 80th all that and we've got
18:24the local choir thing here next month yeah we have a midwinter christmas in the chapel so yeah i mean
18:31it's obviously such a multi-purpose venue you can see anything would be fantastic to have here tell me
18:36what you love about te awamutu or ta as the locals call it we're so central like to to raglan an hour
18:41to raglan an hour to the mount yeah you know waitamo caves so you know there's a lot going on around

19:20had been doing the renovation inspector the building inspector exactly he'd done a great
19:24job on that marvelous job brand new kitchen that really took my eyes yeah i mean not a lot left to
19:30do inside the house in terms of jobs for tradies but i did a great job out the back you could definitely
19:35put your own spin on it oh heck yeah yeah love that house second house we looked at had that awesome
19:40courtyard out the back i was just imagining you guys all your mates around basketball yeah it's
19:46quite cool i only had the one bathroom that way did one toilet but other than that it was it was a
19:51nice house lovely kitchen as well yeah yeah the kitchen had only just gone in at the start of the
19:55year so again nice modern kitchen and the third property when we rocked up you especially liam i remember
20:01you just being like wow this is yeah yeah those fruit trees that caught your eye big lawn yeah awesome brick
20:09house and again with you know guys with your expertise some work to be done on it maybe to get
20:15it to exactly what you need but potential right i think there's potential there in that house to improve
20:19it was one of them the right home for you do you reckon well uh we had to talk about this yeah we did
20:29have a favorite we we did like the second one a lot no the second one was cool but i think the house
20:35that we love the most yeah is drum roll please the last one the third house number three yeah as soon

20:47need to decide whether that three bedrooms is what we want or the four to five bedroom house okay apart
