00:00While building a dream house is for some...
00:08This is brilliant.
00:09This is where we're up to.
00:11...many others are transforming existing homes.
00:14Got it.
00:15Got it.
00:17Smashing down walls, ripping out kitchens, and digging up gardens.
00:23Oh, there you go.
00:25As they reimagine their homes as places to live, work and thrive.
00:30It's gonna be a bathhouse.
00:32Why not, eh?
00:33Bathrooms are the hardest thing to renovate.
00:35I'll go turn that off.
00:37No, Mum.
00:39I'm gonna die before we move into this house.
00:42I'm Anthony Burke, a professor of architecture.
00:46And I'm interior designer Yasmeen Janine.
00:50And in each episode of this new series of Grand Designs transformations,
00:54every single person has kind of said, you're crazy.
00:57We follow the makeover masterminds behind two very different projects.
01:02I do question the stupidity of doing something like this.
01:06OK, this is good.
01:10How are you?
01:11How are you?
01:12How are you?
01:13How are you?
01:14How are you?
01:15How are you?
01:16It's just lovely to meet your home.
01:17With Buddy...
01:18That black phone that goes inside the slats.
01:19...the world's busiest builder.
01:20Take the borough over there, spin that around, we'll six pack and quickly load him up.
01:25It's not only his business, he's transforming the family home too.
01:30And we've hit rock.
01:31It's not good.
01:32I was hoping to be up to the first floor by now.
01:33We need to start dedicating a lot of time here.
01:34Otherwise we're just gonna be here forever, so...
01:35Something's gotta give.
01:36Hey, more work, more work.
01:37And I'm in Tookley, on the New South Wales central coast.
01:40Where a much-loved aunt needs a home.
01:49I cannot remember how I need time, so I have packed and unpacked.
01:59She is absolutely an angel.
02:04It's something for me that I really wanted to do for her.
02:09Budget? Well, that's going to be a challenge.
02:12Wow.
02:28I'm going to catch the fish.
02:30You have to hold on me too.
02:32Ready?
02:34Who's going to catch a big fish today?
02:36Me, the yellow tail.
02:37Yellow tail?
02:38Who?
02:39I'm just going to say it right off the bat.
02:42Have you ever seen a more picture-perfect family?
02:45Where is it?
02:45There it is.
02:46Lock it in.
02:47Reel it up.
02:48Buddy and Deanne Scharble and their three kids, Jacob, Rose and Cara, living the life on Botany
02:54Bay in Sydney's southern suburbs.
02:57Oh, hey, you've got it!
02:59Wow!
03:01No prizes for guessing how Deanne and Buddy met.
03:06We met at school.
03:07High school.
03:08High school.
03:09High school sweethearts?
03:10Yep.
03:11A school dance.
03:13It wasn't on Facebook or anything.
03:18High school sweethearts because of course they were.
03:23They've got the kids.
03:25Oh no, I've got prawn on me!
03:27Go, go, wash your hands in the bucket.
03:29Go.
03:29And now all they need to complete the picture is the dream home.
03:33Let's see.
03:33And here it is.
03:37Deanne found it years ago.
03:39Just like with Buddy, it was love at first sight.
03:43The first time I saw the house, I was actually a young girl.
03:47So my father did maintenance across the road, so I used to always stare at it.
03:51It was old, it was a charming home, but it just always had a beautiful feeling about it,
03:55the house.
03:57There's a lot to love.
04:00130 years old, heritage listed, dripping in history, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe.
04:07It came on the market right when they were looking to buy.
04:11To be honest with you, I see Deanne, she was all starstruck, and I was like, you know,
04:16I think just whatever we've got to do to buy the house, we've got to buy the house,
04:20because I just knew that she really loved it.
04:23I loved it as well, but I just knew it could be something special.
04:26And, yeah, and then just sort of the rollercoaster started from that day, you know?
04:34Rollercoaster is right.
04:36The walls have already been stripped, but this place showed all the signs of its decline
04:41from a once stately home to a boarding house.
04:45But in amongst the rubble, Deanne can see potential.
04:49A heritage, family home mixed with a touch of her Italian roots.
04:53A little slice of clifftop Positano magic, no less, all arches in open air, right here
05:01in Arncliffe.
05:03It's quite the leap, but Buddy's a builder, and he's got a fire in his belly.
05:08I see all the work and all the effort to restore a house and the skill required to do it.
05:15Once all those elements come together, it'll just be a fantastic place.
05:21So, Buddy, when do you think you might finish to be able to move in there?
05:26Not that I'm pushing, because I'm not.
05:28I love you guys here.
05:30The family has moved in with Deanne's parents during the renovation.
05:33Oh, that's right, yeah.
05:34There's a lot of food and laughter and love and disbelief about the job ahead.
05:41What made you go into heritage?
05:43I've always liked old things, haven't I?
05:45Yes.
05:45But she's never liked modern architecture.
05:47She's never liked modern architecture.
05:49She loves this old furniture.
05:51I can't believe it.
05:52She wants old cupboards, old chairs, old tables.
05:54Why?
05:55She likes restoring.
05:56I think she's...
05:57She likes restoring.
05:58Oh, but she's crazy.
05:59Out of my three children, I've got a crazy one.
06:01Wow, this is much bigger than I thought.
06:22Deanne, Buddy.
06:24Anthony, how are you?
06:25How are you?
06:25How are you?
06:25With yourself?
06:26Lovely to meet you.
06:27You too.
06:27Nice to meet you.
06:28Lovely to meet your home.
06:29Yes.
06:30Well, your house, not your home yet.
06:32Until we move in, it's just a house.
06:33Just a house.
06:34Yeah.
06:35And what about...
06:35I mean, this is a family home.
06:36It feels really big on the street.
06:38Does it feel big to you?
06:41I don't...
06:41To me, it doesn't.
06:42I can see...
06:43I think it...
06:44I think it does, though, have a presence because it's on the hill.
06:46Yeah.
06:47You can see the airport.
06:48What else can you see?
06:49I guess the city's over there.
06:50City to the north.
06:51We've got the bay.
06:51Bay over there.
06:52On the south side.
06:53Yep.
06:53So you've basically got a 180-degree view right out there
06:56and just taking full advantage of the hill position.
06:59Yeah.
07:00So that's pretty special.
07:01Yeah, it's beautiful.
07:02Yeah.
07:02And we knew that this area had these kinds of homes
07:06Yeah.
07:07Because my parents actually owned the house across the road
07:10and I used to just stare at it.
07:12Dream about it.
07:13Dream.
07:13Visualise its future.
07:14Dream.
07:15So there's a kind of a sense of destiny here, isn't there?
07:17Yeah.
07:17But you've known the house for a long time.
07:19Yes.
07:19And you actually haven't moved too far from where you kind of...
07:22Well, you know, you're patched, in a sense.
07:24Yeah, pretty much, yeah.
07:25Can you take me in?
07:26Yes.
07:26Let's go.
07:26Let's go.
07:30Okay.
07:31Welcome to the dream house.
07:33The dream house.
07:35Wow.
07:35Actually, this is not what I expected.
07:38Very imposing out the front.
07:40It's actually quite modestly scaled in here.
07:42The back door, it's not very deep.
07:44No, it feels very short.
07:45Yeah, a little bit short.
07:47Having said that, give me a sense.
07:48What is it going to feel like when I come and visit you as a guest?
07:52What's this feel like to me?
07:54So, we'd love to know that we're living in an old house, but we don't want it to feel...
08:00Old.
08:01Old.
08:02We want to have the character development.
08:02Are you sure you've got the right property?
08:04Yeah, I know.
08:07An old house that feels new?
08:11Okay.
08:12And out the back is where the Italian influence comes in.
08:16Just watch your stare.
08:17With a brand new two-storey extension, Deanne hopes will transport her to the Mediterranean.
08:22Wow, you're really getting a head start out here, aren't you?
08:23Yeah, yeah.
08:25I would like it to feel a little bit...
08:29Positano.
08:30Positano-ish.
08:32It's a long way from Arncliffe to Positano, but they're giving it a crack.
08:38Heritage restrictions mean the existing house can't change much.
08:43Features like the front balcony will be restored.
08:47Inside, Buddy plans to repair and reuse the existing timber floors and skirting boards,
08:52but give the whole place a crisp, new feel.
08:56On the ground floor, there's a large study, lounge and formal dining room.
09:00And upstairs, a bedroom each for the kids, with period features like fireplaces kept.
09:05Then, old meets new, existing outhouses are demolished, and a bridge leads across to the very modern extension.
09:17Upstairs is a parents' retreat, deck, main bedroom, walk-in robe and ensuite.
09:22Downstairs, a large kitchen, pantry and living room.
09:28Then, outside to a pool, and Deanne's Italian-inspired alfresco, where they plan to entertain the whole extended family.
09:36So, got a bit of work to do then, really?
09:42Yes, we've got a bit of work ahead of us.
09:44How long do you think it's going to take you to do this build?
09:48I've always sort of wanted to be in, so early next year, so most likely like 10 months.
09:52Normally I'd sort of go, well, I don't know, but you're a builder, so if anyone can answer that question, you can.
09:58Adding on the pressure.
09:59That's right, more pressure.
10:00Yeah.
10:00And what about the budget?
10:02We'd like to be at half a million, to be honest, ideally, but I think most likely, I think we would be around 600.
10:08Okay.
10:09And I guess your kids must be, they're only young, right?
10:12Yeah.
10:13But they must be kind of pretty excited by the prospect of what all this is.
10:17Like, you know, that too, like, adds a bit of pressure for me, because I'm just like, I really want to give them that experience, like, now sort of thing, you know?
10:23But, you know, you just have to be patient.
10:25I suppose.
10:26Yeah, yeah.
10:30It's quite the challenge that Buddy and Deanne have set for themselves here.
10:37On the one hand, can they restore and update this wonderful old slice of Australian history, and on the other, create a brand new building with more than a passing nod to Deanne's Italian heritage.
10:49They have the skills, but they still seem unclear about the vision, and usually that uncertainty is where the problems begin.
11:00It's a chilly midwinter's morning when Buddy breaks ground with the build's first major earthworks, digging the pool.
11:13Exciting times, first bucket.
11:16Usually, like, excavation day is a big day.
11:19You see the machine on site, and you see things happening.
11:22It just feels like a big relief, like, yep, we're going to get started, we're moving, and hopefully now it's just a smooth sailing to the end, so.
11:30Smooth sailing?
11:32I've got my doubts.
11:34Because in addition to this house...
11:36Back, back, lift the camera up.
11:38...Buddy's business has several more under construction.
11:40That black...
11:41He's being pulled every which way.
11:43Left, left, no, no, left.
11:45How's that product working?
11:46The calls are coming thick and fast.
11:49So I end up with 2,700.
11:51Truth is, every site needs his full attention.
11:56Particularly this one.
12:00That's not a good sound.
12:02We've hit rock.
12:04We've hit rock.
12:09Sandstone.
12:10It looks like we've got a bit of salt cutting here, and Jack coming to get the pool depth.
12:14Be a shallow pool.
12:16This is going to add days to the job.
12:23It's all wrong.
12:25No, it's not good.
12:34It's far from smooth sailing.
12:38It's hard, like, you're trying to put attention to everything, and, you know, you're investing your heart and your own money into this project.
12:46And, you know, the rock situation obviously puts a spanner in the works, but, like, it is what it is, I guess.
12:55There's nothing you can do about it.
12:56It's just, like, mixed emotions.
12:57It's part of the game, they say.
12:59Part of the building game.
13:00In Tookley, on the New South Wales Central Coast, a young family is about to start playing its own game.
13:15Priced out of Sydney, Danielle and her mob moved here just over a year ago.
13:24So I guess there's four but really five in our immediate family in that there's myself
13:33and Brian and our two beautiful little children, you know, who's two and a half and Mikael
13:38who's seven and a half.
13:40But then we've also got Aunty Carol who helps take care of our children.
13:46Yeah, she is absolutely an angel.
13:51I used to look after Danielle when she was younger than Ina and my other nieces and nephews
13:59and I feel privileged.
14:04For several years Aunty Carol has lived a nomadic existence.
14:08No permanent home of her own, she's been staying with family members.
14:14I've been moving and living with my brother at his villa at Foster
14:21and I've been coming back and forward, back and forward, back and forward.
14:26It's a tough way to live.
14:29As much as her helping with the kids is priceless, Aunty Carol really needs some help herself.
14:35I think a lot of women her age find themselves in that situation now
14:40where if they haven't had that big career or they weren't, you know, they were never married,
14:45they find themselves in that position where they don't have a lot of money behind them
14:50and they don't have a way of giving themselves that security.
14:56Brianne and Danielle reckon they found a solution for Aunty Carol when they bought their Tookley home.
15:01It's only got two bedrooms, but there's a granny flat out the back.
15:08Well, kind of. It's really just a shed and a pretty basic one at that.
15:14Happily though, Brianne is a carpenter and has grand plans to transform it and Aunty Carol's life.
15:21Family is life, family is love, family is enjoyment and Carol's part of our family and, yeah, we want to be able to enjoy our time together.
15:32This project sounds like it's got a lot of heart, but it's going to take more than that to make it work.
15:48Hi guys.
15:50Oh, yes. Hi.
15:51Danielle and Brianne.
15:52Yeah.
15:53So you've got this fibroshack in your backyard.
15:55Yeah.
15:56And your aunt is currently staying with her brother.
15:58Yep.
15:59And so this is going to be her house.
16:02It is.
16:03And what does that mean to her?
16:05Everything.
16:06Um, this will be her very first home of her own.
16:10Well, you're rather nice, aren't you?
16:13Yeah, well, she's rather nice.
16:14Oh, that's incredible.
16:17The old shack looks pretty, pretty old.
16:20I gotta say, like these things are so known for not having insulation.
16:25And the windows and doors completely unsealed, I'd imagine.
16:29It might not look like much, but it actually had pretty good bones.
16:32There's some nice old Oregon timber in there.
16:34A lot of it was put together pretty well back in the day.
16:37Alright.
16:38So it's not going to look like a fibroshack in the end?
16:40Oh, look, we've got plans and ideas.
16:42Um, definitely going to give it a facelift.
16:44Okay.
16:45Yeah, absolutely.
16:46We haven't convinced me entirely, so I want to see inside.
16:50Come this way.
16:51Let's go.
16:52Well, they won't be holding a cat swinging competition in here.
16:56It's just eight by four metres.
16:58And that's a challenge.
17:00It was always our intention with this to make it as liveable as possible for her.
17:05Gonna be smart, make the best use out of the space, and just make life easier for her.
17:10Yeah.
17:11So is Carol popping in from time to time and, hey, how's it going?
17:15Um, we have mapped it all out for her.
17:17We've given her drawings and sketches and everything.
17:18So she's got a good impression.
17:19So she's got visuals.
17:20She's got a good impression.
17:21She knows what she's getting.
17:22Yeah.
17:23To make this tiny flat liveable will require a space saving ninja.
17:31Straight in the front door, a galley kitchen and a study nook.
17:35Opposite, a TV and entertainment zone for Aunty Carol's rather large music collection.
17:42A partition wall gives separation between the living area and the bedroom.
17:48There's a custom-made single bed with clever storage underneath,
17:52next to a tidy ensuite.
17:54Although it's small, the plan is to generate a sense of space
17:57by creating a very neutral colour palette,
18:01and additional windows will draw in more natural light.
18:04There's a deck and timber cladding to lift the hard-to-love exterior.
18:10I'm getting the impression the budget's pretty tight.
18:13Yeah. Sub-10 grand.
18:15Around. Yeah, that face.
18:1810 grand? Yeah.
18:20Wow.
18:21Yeah.
18:22For everything. For everything.
18:24That's not a lot of money.
18:26Yep.
18:28Let's focus on the positive. We've got 10k, all right?
18:31That's what we do.
18:33What's the timing like to deliver this?
18:36There was no official kind of, let's put a pen in the calendar on it,
18:39but we gave ourselves a three-month window.
18:42Mm-hmm.
18:42To get the inside livable and usable.
18:46Three months and 10 grand.
18:50That's ambitious.
18:52And it's not their only challenge.
18:53Extended family living is really great in theory,
18:58but it often falls apart in reality,
19:01when the spaces provided are functional, but not super comfortable.
19:06And that's the challenge they face here.
19:08Are they going to make that space feel homey enough
19:11for Aunty Carol to even want to hang out in?
19:14Successful family living isn't just about coming together.
19:17It's sometimes the time apart that's even more important.
19:29Dawn is not long cracked,
19:31and Brian is hard at work on his day job,
19:35carpenter and foreman on a luxury home build.
19:37Building houses is really what I enjoy,
19:41not so much just, you know, turning up and working away.
19:46It's actually seeing a house from start to finish
19:49is really, yeah, what I get my enjoyment from.
19:52Any chippy will tell you building is hard work,
19:56physically tiring, mentally taxing.
19:59The problem for Brian is, come knock-off,
20:05there's no putting his feet up.
20:09Nicky, did you put your things away properly?
20:12Or did you just leave them in a pile?
20:14While Danielle wrangles the kids,
20:16he gets down to the night shift on Aunty Carol's place.
20:21First job, installing extra windows
20:24to let more daylight into this dim shed.
20:26So we've picked up this window from the local reclaim yard,
20:32cut it to suit the opening, essentially.
20:35Length-wise, this window has worked out perfectly for our room size.
20:43Most of the tiny 10k budget will go on big-ticket items
20:47like white goods and specialist trades like electricians.
20:51Nearly all the materials will be second-hand,
20:53and Brian's time is, well, free.
20:55To make this happen, the work's got to be done by someone.
20:59I'm capable and willing,
21:03so I guess that's me.
21:05I guess my hand's up for it.
21:07So I just have to do what I have to do.
21:10Made to measure.
21:11Back in Sydney's Arncliffe,
21:20Buddy's also got his hands full,
21:23trying to marry this heritage Victorian rambler
21:26with a slice of Italy.
21:31It cost an extra $13,000,
21:35but the pool's been dug.
21:37And now Buddy's turning his attention to the floors.
21:44They're a problem.
21:46The joists are rotten and have to go.
21:49But Buddy wants to salvage the history-soaked floorboards.
21:52We're going to try to save as many,
21:56because we're thinking, like,
21:57if we can put them back into the hallway,
21:59we'll reuse them in the hallway,
22:00maybe just to, you know,
22:02have some type of connection.
22:04I don't know.
22:04So we'll try to save as many as we can.
22:07On a normal house,
22:09stripping a room like this
22:10would take half an hour.
22:12Carefully rescuing those boards
22:14means Buddy will be here for days.
22:17Oh, I nearly got there.
22:19Can we still save it?
22:20It just...
22:21Everything takes time.
22:22Do you know what I mean?
22:23And it's just like...
22:24You just want to live in here,
22:25and it's just time-consuming, you know?
22:29You're trying to, you know,
22:30keep as much as you can
22:31and pay its respects, you know?
22:34But it's hard.
22:35It takes a toll.
22:37Hey, more work, more work.
22:40So anyway, it is what it is.
22:44It is what it is, is Buddy's motto.
22:48And what it is out the back
22:50with the new extension
22:51is a complete standstill.
22:55In part because Deanne's nervous
22:58about the look of her Positano-inspired alfresco.
23:04She's come to see designer Anthony,
23:06who's Buddy's brother,
23:08and architect friends Laura and Wally.
23:11What I'd like to sort out or get final
23:14is what the facade looks like,
23:15the back of the house,
23:17because it has kept me up all night
23:19or multiple nights.
23:21Buddy and I have had many arguments about it.
23:23I just need someone to just kind of give me
23:26what it could look like,
23:27the finishes,
23:28and help with the interior.
23:31Deanne had been seeing this property
23:33or watching this property for years
23:35because her parents own a property within the area.
23:37So she's been...
23:38And when it came up for sale,
23:39there was a lot of emotion,
23:40there was a lot of...
23:41tied in with Deanne.
23:42That's what I would love to see,
23:44just for it to be softened a little bit.
23:47And I always say this,
23:48I've said this before,
23:49to give it a bit of a vibe.
23:51I don't like using that word,
23:52but to give it some kind of...
23:53some kind of feeling at the back,
23:55that's what I would like to see.
23:56It's taken on Deanne's thoughts and opinion
24:00of, you know,
24:00having that arch colonnade
24:02to help tie into...
24:03I do love archers.
24:04...the Mediterranean vibe.
24:05Yeah.
24:06The Positano...
24:08Yes, give me Mediterranean.
24:09...holiday feel.
24:11So the detail on it,
24:12you've got like a...
24:13You can't blame Deanne
24:14for wanting the house to be perfect.
24:17It's been her dream home forever.
24:21But it's six months into the ten-month build
24:25before the design vibe is right
24:27and Buddy can pour the slab for the extension.
24:32You know, at this time now,
24:36we should...
24:37In my mind,
24:38I was hoping to be up to the first floor by now.
24:41But obviously, you know,
24:42a few elements in the building changed
24:43that we wanted to do,
24:44so we just delayed the process a bit,
24:48in that sense.
24:49It is what it is.
24:50Like, that's how I live by.
24:52Like, can't change anything at the moment,
24:55so I just have to go through it
24:56and try not to get stressed too much.
25:02But as the slab is laid out,
25:06it becomes clear just how ambitious this build is.
25:10It's really two builds
25:12with very different challenges,
25:15restoring the old place
25:16and building the new extension.
25:21Frankly, it's hard to see how Deanne's dream home
25:24won't take twice as long as they planned.
25:28There you go.
25:28There's been a lot of worrying about
25:30how to get all the work done
25:32with everything going on
25:34with Buddy's business, with the kids.
25:36I don't know.
25:37I don't know what the answer is,
25:38but I just think we need to start
25:39dedicating a lot of time here.
25:40And I think once this back slab's done
25:42and the extension's done,
25:43I feel like we'll have more control back
25:46over the house.
25:47Otherwise, we're just going to be here forever.
25:49There were some worrying tidings at Tukli
25:58on the central coast as well.
26:01Three months into the shed transformation,
26:04the already stretched finish line
26:06just got even further away.
26:09Bri got a call from his sister.
26:15His dad's been really quite unwell in hospital
26:17and he got told that things didn't look great for his dad.
26:23So he's gone back to hopefully spend
26:26some quality last moments with his dad.
26:29While Brienne's away in the UK,
26:36it's also going to be tough on Danielle.
26:39She works full-time.
26:41Managing that and the kids
26:42means she desperately needs help.
26:48Aunty Carol's coming to the rescue.
26:51I'm still between Tukli and Foster,
26:54Foster and Tukli.
26:55I haven't got much space at the moment.
26:59So I'm trying to squeeze everything in.
27:05It's not ideal, but her options are limited.
27:09Being single at this stage,
27:11rents is very expensive
27:13and you're okay for a couple of years
27:16and then they decide they want to put the rent up
27:19and you find that being a senior,
27:23it's a bit hard and a bit hard to manage.
27:26Home to me is family
27:29and the people
27:32that you love
27:34and the people that are kind to you
27:37and look after you.
27:38They're the people that you have time for.
27:40I do a lot of projects with the kids,
27:50noughts and crosses, colouring in, games.
27:53Cross it one more time, just lightly.
27:56Look out, look out, look out.
27:58I love it.
27:59Yes, I do.
28:01And they love it too, actually.
28:04But loving the kids is one thing.
28:08Couch surfing is another thing altogether.
28:11I have to make the bed each night
28:15and come morning,
28:18it gets packed away
28:20and it gets a bit tedious.
28:26I'm hoping soon
28:28that I can move into my own space
28:31where I can make my bed
28:35and not put anybody else out.
28:44It's no surprise
28:45Brian and Danielle
28:46are trying to make the most
28:47of the space they've got.
28:50It's really the design challenge
28:52of the moment.
28:53But I've found
28:54an amazing little place in Sydney
28:56that offers more than a few
28:57brilliant solutions.
28:59Well, I sure hope
29:01you've brought me somewhere
29:02that is inspiring
29:03for maximising space.
29:06We're in Glebe
29:07and here space is
29:08at an absolute premium
29:08and this is a beautiful example
29:10of how to do just that.
29:12A small footprint,
29:13a lot of usage
29:14and a great design outcome.
29:16Lead the way.
29:17Let me show you.
29:24This was a cramped, dark terrace
29:27but a transformation
29:28by architect David Boyle
29:30shows just what's possible.
29:35The odd boards
29:36from the old house
29:37become this.
29:40I bet you didn't expect
29:41four metre height ceilings
29:43and that beautiful
29:44north-facing window.
29:46Oh my God.
29:47Look at that.
29:47Isn't that amazing?
29:48The space is going to like
29:49unfolds like this
29:51in front of you
29:51and the tree kind of grows
29:52in front of your eyes almost.
29:53All of that is north-facing
29:55so we're getting the best light
29:56all day coming into
29:57this glorious space here.
30:00Accessing light
30:04is at the heart
30:06of the design.
30:08Dappled sunshine
30:09on the neighbour's wall,
30:11the soaring bush-like view
30:13from the bay windows.
30:15The space the terrace
30:16lacks in width
30:17is made up for
30:18with height.
30:21There's room to breathe
30:22and building in furniture
30:25around the walls
30:26creates more room
30:27to move about.
30:33And upstairs,
30:35massive light wells
30:36funnel in sunshine.
30:38The bright white palette
30:40reflecting it
30:41around the belly
30:42of the building.
30:45I want to show you
30:46the bathroom up here.
30:47Look at this.
30:49So fresh.
30:50Yeah.
30:51Another tight little space
30:52that's been maximised
30:54by this beautiful light well.
30:55Wow.
30:56Yeah.
30:57I love this detail.
30:59The light.
30:59Oh my God.
31:00Look at this.
31:00The light well
31:01all the way down
31:01to the bathroom below.
31:03Oh, wow.
31:05Cut bricks.
31:05A little nice little shelf
31:06to catch the light.
31:07I love it.
31:08That flow.
31:09Yeah, look at this.
31:11All these smaller spaces
31:12kind of nest together.
31:13This is the main bedroom.
31:18Every nook and cranny,
31:20there's storage.
31:21Everywhere.
31:22Like Tookley, again.
31:23This is a great book storage
31:25that then turns into a sofa.
31:28You know, this door
31:29sort of pulls right through.
31:30But look at this.
31:31Shut yourself off
31:32from the world.
31:33Yeah.
31:33Ah, so clever.
31:35Yeah, even the wardrobe
31:36out here.
31:37Wow.
31:38The storage in here
31:40is great.
31:40Yeah.
31:41So the last surprise,
31:42though, is on the roof.
31:45Okay.
31:45Show me.
31:49That surprise
31:50is a rooftop garden.
31:56We're in a tiny terrace,
31:58but you'd swear
31:59we were in the bush
32:01with all the space
32:02and light
32:03that it brings.
32:05Every single inch
32:06of this house
32:06has been used
32:07to its full potential.
32:09Absolutely.
32:10And this
32:11is magnificent.
32:13They've woven
32:14all these little
32:14intricate, you know,
32:16winds
32:16in terms of storage
32:17and space
32:18out of the whole design,
32:19and they've managed
32:20to sort of weave
32:20the garden
32:21into every single level.
32:23It's a real triumph.
32:24But they're a long way
32:34from any kind of triumph
32:35in Arncliffe.
32:36In fact,
32:37it's more of a mixed bag.
32:39The good news is
32:40Buddy's business
32:41is booming.
32:43The bad news is
32:44he's too busy
32:46to work on their own house.
32:47Looks like the lint
32:48was just rusted a little bit.
32:49I'm a very hands-on
32:51sort of builder,
32:52so I'm very heavily involved
32:54in every project,
32:55whether it be framing,
32:56structural work,
32:57being on top of it.
32:59We've got a few projects
33:01running along Sydney
33:01at the moment now,
33:02and obviously,
33:03they're sort of,
33:04I shouldn't put it this way,
33:05but they're sort of
33:05being prioritised
33:06at the moment
33:07in comparison
33:07to the restoration.
33:08Only reason is
33:09those jobs
33:10actually pay
33:10for the restoration.
33:11So, yeah,
33:12it is a bit stressful
33:14because in the back of my mind,
33:15the more it's thinking
33:16about the house
33:17and, you know,
33:18the next day
33:18the kids are always like,
33:20you know,
33:20when's the house
33:21going to get done,
33:21Papa?
33:22When are we going to move in?
33:23When are we going to swim
33:23in the pool?
33:24You know,
33:24so all those factors
33:25play onto it
33:26and then on top of that,
33:27you know,
33:27we're busy with all
33:28the other jobs
33:29at the moment now
33:29and trying to be everywhere
33:30is spread so thin,
33:32you know,
33:32like it's stressful.
33:35At this rate,
33:37I'm worried Deanne
33:38will fall out of love
33:39with her second great romance,
33:42this house.
33:44Standing here
33:45with the roof open
33:47like that,
33:47you really kind of realise
33:49not much has happened,
33:50right?
33:51No, no.
33:52I know Buddy's all kind of like,
33:53don't worry,
33:53it'll all get done,
33:54but how are you feeling?
33:55Because this was sort of
33:56your dream in a way.
33:58You kind of grew up
33:59with this across the road.
34:00Yeah.
34:00Look,
34:01there's nothing really much
34:01I can do.
34:03There's no point in arguing
34:05and, yeah,
34:07I just,
34:07and I know how hard he works
34:08and I know he's not doing nothing.
34:10I think it would be different
34:10if he was doing nothing
34:12or going out,
34:13but I know how hard he works
34:14so for me it's like,
34:15I respect that
34:18when he can,
34:19he will finish it.
34:20Yeah.
34:20You must be getting frustrated though.
34:21Yeah,
34:22I do,
34:22I do.
34:23There's a point where you're like,
34:24actually,
34:24the family,
34:25we've got to get in.
34:26I do,
34:26yeah,
34:27I do.
34:27And part of me is like,
34:28should we just move on from it
34:30or should we just draw the line?
34:31But,
34:31Have you thought about
34:32walking away?
34:34I've talked,
34:34I've raised it with him.
34:35Yeah.
34:36But then whenever we come back here,
34:38we're like,
34:38no,
34:38we've just got to finish it.
34:39And also,
34:39how can we sell it
34:40in this state?
34:41Sure.
34:42Yeah,
34:42that's true.
34:42So,
34:43no,
34:44we're in it now
34:45to finish it.
34:52In Tookley
34:53on the New South Wales
34:54central coast,
34:55after farewelling
34:56his late father,
34:58Brian's back
34:59from the UK.
34:59Hello, Daddy.
35:01Hey, buddy.
35:01I do a lot of this.
35:08Thinking man pose.
35:09I started drawing some plans
35:14for what I want to do
35:15in the bedroom.
35:17The whole bed,
35:17everything's all built in.
35:19But intention is to make
35:21a couple of shoe drawers
35:23so that all our shoes
35:24can just go into one spot.
35:26With Brian back
35:28on the job...
35:29What have we got?
35:32Oh,
35:32that's actually kind of cute.
35:34Danielle and the gang
35:35are scouring
35:36the local recycling yard
35:37for bargains.
35:39So cool.
35:41Induction cooktops.
35:42Really cool.
35:43Lots of cute,
35:44cool little mirrors.
35:46We've gotten some stuff
35:48for the bathroom,
35:49so all the taps
35:50and that kind of thing,
35:51like the mixes,
35:52all those things.
35:54Oh, splashbacks and stuff.
35:55Today,
35:57the mission is tiles.
35:59These are like
36:00$60, $70 a square metre,
36:03possibly more.
36:05And this is like
36:07you can get a whole box
36:08for like $50 or something.
36:12The big test
36:13is getting Auntie Carol
36:15on board with the design.
36:17It's the only way
36:18she'll feel really connected
36:19to the space.
36:21Yeah, see,
36:22even those two together
36:23are nice for me.
36:24And I'm partial
36:25to jade
36:26and green.
36:30It's a spiritual colour.
36:32What about my guitars?
36:35Is there going to be room
36:36for my babies?
36:38Yes, I've got
36:38a special plan for them.
36:40I think.
36:40I had an idea.
36:41I cannot wait
36:45to have her
36:46in that space.
36:47It's something for me
36:48that I really wanted
36:49to do for her
36:50that's just
36:51going to be
36:52out of this world
36:53for her.
36:53It's just nothing
36:54she's ever
36:55really had before.
36:56Back in Arncliffe,
37:03but he's so busy,
37:06it's been three months
37:07since he's even
37:08been on site.
37:09It's been standing
37:11completely idle.
37:12easier that way.
37:15But at last,
37:16there's some action.
37:19The rotten floor joists
37:21have been removed
37:22and a concrete slab
37:23is going down
37:23to replace them.
37:25The salvaged boards
37:26will be laid on top.
37:29It's such a red-letter day,
37:31even the kids are here.
37:34Yeah, it's good.
37:34It's good to see them.
37:35It sort of lifts your spirits
37:37a little bit too,
37:37because they know
37:39I'm doing it for them.
37:41I'm not doing it for me,
37:42it's more for them.
37:43Take the burrow over there,
37:44spin that round,
37:45we'll stick to fucking
37:46quickly and load him up.
37:47Buddy's making the most
37:48of his time on site.
37:51Out the back,
37:52the walls are going up
37:53on the new extension.
37:55No, no, no, no,
37:56it goes all the way up.
37:57I think we're just
37:58all really eager
37:59to get in
37:59and I just think
38:00seeing progress
38:02just sort of
38:02re-energises
38:04the whole process.
38:06It feels like
38:06in the last three days,
38:07I can see
38:09the whole structure
38:10of the house.
38:10Every day I come here,
38:12the walls
38:12are higher and higher.
38:14It's amazing.
38:15It's just awesome.
38:16It's awesome watching it.
38:19But this productive
38:20little window
38:21is closing fast.
38:23Buddy's attention
38:24is constantly
38:25being dragged away
38:26to other projects.
38:27Cut it like that,
38:29we build the frame
38:29and then we'll pack
38:30the top out to plumb it.
38:31You know what I'm trying to say?
38:32Just trying to,
38:33like anything,
38:34it's like a balancing act,
38:35trying to balance
38:36my wife's expectations
38:37since we're here.
38:39Days go quick
38:40and you can just
38:41sort of like,
38:42oh, I'll get to it next week,
38:43get to it next week
38:43and then before you know it,
38:44you're in June,
38:45you know,
38:45like halfway through the year.
38:47Let's do one more
38:48double check.
38:53Forget June,
38:54it's now August.
38:56Four months
38:57past the 10-month deadline
38:59and any momentum
39:01Buddy had built up
39:02is long gone.
39:10Just one brickie
39:11is left on site
39:12with about 10,000 bricks to go.
39:16Well, he's going to be here
39:18well into the next century.
39:23And while Buddy spends his days
39:24building homes
39:25for other people,
39:27his own
39:27is grinding to a halt.
39:30Again.
39:36In better news,
39:37it's still full steam ahead
39:39with the Tookley granny flat.
39:41Bad news is
39:42it's now six months
39:44into the build.
39:45Three months
39:46was the plan.
39:48But Brianne's been non-stop,
39:50racing from work
39:52to, well, work,
39:53desperate to get
39:54Aunty Carol
39:55into her first ever home.
39:57Pretty tired.
39:59I've obviously
40:01had to go away
40:02and so
40:03when I came back
40:04I set myself
40:05a pretty strict deadline
40:07which I've been
40:08clawing away
40:09to try and meet.
40:11Can definitely see
40:12the end point.
40:15There's certainly
40:16been progress.
40:18There's now a sense
40:19of the different spaces
40:20but working alone
40:22everything takes longer
40:24than Brianne hoped.
40:28Quite a lot of work
40:29to create
40:29such a dainty little thing.
40:32But there are
40:33some clever ideas
40:34to make more space
40:35in the bathroom
40:36and he's crafting
40:39a bedhead
40:40to add a sense
40:41of comfort.
40:43Trying to bring
40:43in some soft edges
40:45and stuff like that
40:46to kind of make
40:46it comfortable
40:47but also
40:47a little bit luxurious.
40:53So that's the actual
40:55bedhead part
40:56and we're going
40:59to give this
40:59some detail.
41:01So
41:02I'll be getting
41:03the router out
41:04and
41:05putting some
41:07kind of nice
41:08detail into that.
41:10But yeah,
41:10that fits in there.
41:12Yeah, it's a good size.
41:13And then all this
41:14is storage obviously
41:15so we're going to have
41:15drawers in through
41:17under here.
41:21Auntie Carol
41:22is counting the days.
41:24She has been
41:25for months.
41:26Having her own place
41:27close to the family
41:29will be truly
41:30life-changing.
41:32It's only a little
41:33granny flat
41:34and it's compact
41:35and you have to
41:37think about
41:37what you want
41:38to take with you.
41:40The most important
41:41one is my photos
41:42because they've got
41:44a lot of memories
41:44in history.
41:46There, that, that.
41:47That's young Danielle
41:48and myself.
41:50God, I was so young
41:51there.
41:52Can you believe it?
41:54Oh, jeez.
41:57And then
41:58the music stuff.
42:01My beautiful vinyl.
42:03We've got the
42:04Rolling Stones.
42:05Congratulations.
42:06Time is on my side.
42:09Doesn't this bring
42:09back memories?
42:11I cannot remember
42:12how many times
42:13I have packed
42:14and unpacked it
42:15because I've moved
42:16a few times.
42:17Packed it up,
42:18unpacked it,
42:19packed it up,
42:20unpacked it.
42:20I can't really remember.
42:22Really looking forward
42:24to having all my
42:25important stuff
42:26in one place
42:27and in one
42:29abode
42:30where I don't have
42:31to move anymore.
42:32It's now
42:45three years
42:46since Buddy and
42:47Deanne set out
42:47to build their
42:48perfect home
42:49in Arncliffe.
42:52A whimsical blend
42:54of old and new
42:55with a dash
42:56of Positano style.
43:00The backbreaking job
43:01of dragging that
43:03into reality
43:03all fell
43:04to Buddy.
43:06Which is a problem
43:07because he's
43:09the busiest man
43:10on the planet.
43:14Builders,
43:15designers,
43:15architects
43:15and tradies,
43:16they all know
43:17the truth.
43:18Everyone else's
43:19house comes first.
43:20Paying projects
43:21are at the top
43:21of the list
43:22and yours
43:23at the bottom.
43:24And I get it
43:25but in this case
43:26I fear Buddy
43:27is heading towards
43:28catastrophe.
43:29A family home
43:30languishing in
43:31construction
43:32purgatory
43:33indefinitely.
43:35Unless of course
43:36he's pulled off
43:37a miracle
43:38I don't know about.
43:50Oh my...
43:51just scaffolding,
44:00weeds
44:02and a distinct
44:05lack of progress.
44:09I can't believe it
44:10but here we are.
44:13Hello, hello.
44:15Deanne, buddy.
44:17Hello.
44:18There they are.
44:19How are you?
44:20What is...
44:21What's going on?
44:23This place looks
44:24exactly the same
44:25as the last time
44:25I was here.
44:26You sound like
44:27Deanne.
44:28I'm sorry to say.
44:30Business has sort of
44:31just exploded in a way.
44:32Oh, that's good news.
44:33Yeah, it's good news
44:34but it's bad news
44:35for someone else.
44:36Bad news for me.
44:37Not such good news.
44:38The house was on hold
44:40for about ten months
44:41so no one was on site.
44:43Right.
44:44It is hard
44:44because the kids
44:45are always like
44:46when are we going
44:46to get to finish?
44:48I want to have people
44:49over.
44:49I want to use the pool
44:50etc etc etc and I get it
44:52and it's hard to say
44:54to them yeah
44:54we're going to be there
44:55soon and you know
44:56I think they've given up.
44:58They've given up
44:59on me as well.
45:00So you said the thing
45:08about sitting down
45:09and talking about the house?
45:15So tell me again
45:16why is it taking so long?
45:17It's on other people's houses.
45:28In fairness
45:29there has been progress
45:30on the new part
45:31of the house
45:32its scale
45:34and shape emerging.
45:35This is where
45:36one day
45:37the whole
45:38extended family
45:39will come
45:40and enjoy
45:40the fruits
45:41of Buddy's labour.
45:42Splash around
45:43in the pool
45:43sip a drink
45:45in the cool shade
45:46of the pergola.
45:49One day.
45:51Alright,
45:52I've got to have a look
45:52at the new section
45:53out the back here.
45:54Yeah.
45:55This is where
45:55the dream's coming true
45:56right?
45:56This is where
45:58the living's going
45:58will be happening.
46:00Look at all of this.
46:01It's pretty big.
46:02This is great.
46:03Yeah.
46:03Yeah?
46:04It is good.
46:05This was,
46:05I'm sort of thinking
46:06this was your space.
46:07This was my space.
46:08Yeah?
46:08Because we had,
46:10we are denied
46:10about what this
46:11should look like.
46:12Yeah.
46:12And I think
46:13it's come together.
46:14Okay.
46:15We wanted it to be,
46:16you know,
46:16reflect how we live.
46:17We wanted it to have
46:18a connection to outside.
46:19I wanted it a little bit
46:20of a European vibe.
46:22Yep.
46:22Hence the arches.
46:23And I'm thinking,
46:25you know,
46:25garden.
46:26So yeah,
46:26I think it has turned
46:27out how we thought.
46:29Well,
46:29I don't know,
46:30let's see how we go,
46:31but it's getting there.
46:32Yeah.
46:32I said to Buddy this morning,
46:34what will we do
46:34when this house is finished?
46:35Yeah.
46:36It's like,
46:36I like it how it's going.
46:38What will they do?
46:44I'm guessing
46:45they'll take
46:45a well-earned rest
46:46and when it's done,
46:48this will be
46:49just the place
46:50to do it.
46:53This is actually
46:54quite nice
46:55sitting here,
46:55isn't it?
46:56It is.
46:56I'm imagining
46:57the green vines
46:58above our heads,
46:59these arches
46:59all sort of finished
47:00and a nice render on it.
47:02Slab's done down here
47:03with some beautiful
47:04stone paving.
47:05Garden's finished.
47:06That's my picture
47:08of your house.
47:09Yes.
47:10We can see the vision,
47:12we've just got to
47:12put it together.
47:13You've got to do
47:13the damn work.
47:15How many houses
47:15have you finished
47:16this year
47:16while you've been
47:17doing this one?
47:18Four.
47:18Four houses, okay.
47:19Yeah.
47:20So you've definitely
47:21not been slouching.
47:22No one can accuse you
47:23of laziness
47:24or anything like that.
47:25No, no, no.
47:26Just pretty naive
47:27in the sense that
47:28I can do this,
47:29I can do that,
47:29we can do this,
47:30we can do that
47:30sort of thing
47:31and then it just
47:31sort of blows out.
47:33Let's talk about
47:34when then
47:35you're actually
47:36going to finally
47:36get in here.
47:40Can you give me
47:41like a
47:41completion date?
47:43In my mind,
47:45like I really want
47:45to be in before
47:46Deanne's birthday.
47:47Oh really?
47:48Yes.
47:48That's good.
47:49Sorry, when is that?
47:49That's September.
47:50September next year?
47:51Yeah.
47:52Okay, so we're
47:53ten months.
47:53Ten months, yeah.
47:54From now.
47:55So that would make
47:56the whole project
47:57from start to finish
47:58how long?
47:59Oh, I think
48:00from the moment
48:00you started,
48:02is it like
48:02maybe four years?
48:04Four years?
48:04Something like that,
48:05yeah.
48:05That's a long time
48:06It is.
48:07To be hopeful.
48:09Yeah.
48:10Yeah.
48:10Yeah.
48:11So I remember
48:12you talking about
48:13a budget of around
48:14$600,000
48:15when we first spoke.
48:17Yep.
48:18What do you think
48:19you'll finish it for?
48:20I think we'll be
48:21finished
48:21probably like
48:23early eights.
48:24Early $800,000?
48:26Yeah.
48:27For this?
48:28Yeah.
48:28There's a lot of
48:29house
48:29for $800,000.
48:31Yeah, I know.
48:32That's a pretty low
48:33number.
48:34That's amazing.
48:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
48:35How confident
48:35are you about that?
48:36I'm confident
48:36because I've done
48:38most of the work
48:38myself.
48:39You know the
48:40building better than
48:40anyone.
48:41Yeah, so.
48:41I can't wait
48:42to see this place
48:43just full of people,
48:44full of laughs and
48:45smiles and all of
48:45that stuff that
48:46you're imagining
48:47in here because
48:48I can imagine it
48:48too.
48:49I am going to
48:50come back though
48:51and I'm going to
48:51visit when you're
48:52finished.
48:53Great.
48:53Can't wait.
48:53So that's my
48:54promise to you.
48:54Can't wait.
48:55Okay.
48:55Be here for the
48:57party.
48:57Excellent.
48:58Yeah.
49:08Seems to me
49:09Deanne's been
49:10waiting for this
49:11dream home ever
49:12since she was a
49:12little girl.
49:14So maybe
49:16another 10 months
49:17is not so long.
49:19If it is only
49:2010 months.
49:22Pressure's on,
49:22buddy.
49:25Meanwhile in
49:41Tookley, it's more
49:45than a year since
49:46Brian and Danielle
49:47started converting
49:48their backyard into
49:49a home for their
49:50much-loved
49:51Aunty Carol.
49:51But with virtually
49:57no budget and
49:58no help, this
50:00well-intentioned
50:01mission was always
50:02at risk of falling
50:03short and creating
50:05little more for
50:05Carol than a
50:06cramped shack.
50:08She deserves so
50:09much more.
50:10Oh, Kaz is
50:19going to be
50:20beside herself.
50:22It's so cute.
50:26Well, aren't you
50:28a sight for sore eyes?
50:30Look at me!
50:31It's lovely to see!
50:32Lovely to see you too.
50:34Kaz, I'm giving you a hug
50:36outside your own
50:38home.
50:39Welcome to the
50:41mini Taj Mahal.
50:43Why, thank you.
50:44Great, look at this!
50:45Yeah.
50:46Danny, look what
50:46you guys have created!
50:47Yeah, we got there.
50:48Incredible!
50:49You've got to show me
50:50what's inside the Taj.
50:51Come.
50:52Let's get in there.
50:54Oh!
50:55It's finally finished.
50:57Look at our door.
50:57Wow!
50:59Wow!
51:00What?
51:00Finished product!
51:03Kaz!
51:04It really is the
51:05finished product!
51:05I can't believe it yet!
51:11This really, truly
51:12is magnificent.
51:14You've got a home!
51:17The granny flat feels
51:18twice the size of when I
51:20first saw it.
51:22For a start, there's no
51:24clutter, thanks to plenty
51:26of clever storage.
51:28Everything has its place
51:30and everything is in
51:32proportion.
51:34But it's more than just
51:35functional.
51:36There's craftsmanship and
51:38elegance I didn't expect.
51:42The patterned ceiling,
51:45the shell motif,
51:47and everywhere,
51:51Aunty Carol's things
51:52making the house hers.
51:57I am astounded at how
51:59spacious this feels.
52:01You've got a living room,
52:03a kitchen, a study,
52:06a bedroom and an en suite.
52:08Like, how did you fit it all
52:09in and have it look like it's
52:11not on top of one another?
52:12Exactly.
52:13It's amazing.
52:15Brianne, I've got to commend
52:16you on the joinery because
52:18the storage solutions for a
52:20really small space works so
52:22well.
52:23Yeah, me and Danny put our
52:25brains together and we
52:27managed to squeeze it in.
52:29You didn't have to go that
52:30far.
52:31You didn't have to do a
52:32beautiful coffered little
52:33ceiling.
52:34You didn't have to have the
52:35different panelling from
52:36here onto the bedroom.
52:38You didn't have to curve that
52:40detail on the corner there just
52:41to make it a little bit
52:42softer.
52:43Everything's got intention
52:45and that is so lovely to
52:46see.
52:47I think mostly for me it was
52:49just being able to translate
52:51the little things that she
52:53loves into a space that was
52:55just going to be beautiful
52:57for her.
52:58It was going to be modern but
52:59it was also going to be all
53:01the touches of the things that
53:02she really loves and know
53:04that it, you know.
53:05She's going to be here
53:06tomorrow and for 10 years
53:07to come.
53:08Yes, that's right.
53:09As long as she needs it.
53:10Yeah.
53:11And it's just perfect.
53:12It's actually too nice.
53:15Really.
53:16Oh.
53:17Oh.
53:18Oh, Kaz.
53:21Oh.
53:28To the flower bed, Eney.
53:30I am so thrilled for
53:32Aunty Carol.
53:34If nothing else, it must be
53:37such a relief.
53:41Carol, it's a big deal
53:43getting your own place.
53:45Right.
53:45Having a permanent home
53:47that you can call your own.
53:49How does that make you feel?
53:50It feels absolutely fantastic,
53:53yes?
53:53Yeah.
53:53And I never thought it would come
53:55to that point, fruition,
53:57but apparently it has
53:58and I'm over the moon.
54:01Have you found it more
54:02difficult or have you
54:03loved the independence?
54:05Oh, I love the independence.
54:06That was great.
54:08Did you stick
54:10to the 10K?
54:12No.
54:13We were a little bit
54:15over budget.
54:17About 14 and a half.
54:19Okay, that's nuts.
54:20That's nuts still.
54:2214 and a half.
54:23Yeah, it's relevant
54:24to the scale
54:25and relevant to the fact
54:26that we've done
54:27every single last scrap
54:28of the work ourselves.
54:29If you'd have got
54:30someone else to do it,
54:31I don't think it would
54:32have been as good.
54:33Oh, absolutely not.
54:34To be honest, it would not have.
54:36Because they would not
54:37have put the thought
54:38or the effort
54:39and the heart and soul
54:40very good.
54:41Yeah.
54:42Heart and soul into it.
54:44Originally, you guys
54:45had 12 weeks for this.
54:47How long did it end up taking?
54:49Yeah, you know,
54:49we've ended up 12 months.
54:52But if you were to actually
54:53take all of those hours
54:54and condense it,
54:56you'd probably sit in
54:57up close to that
54:58three-month time frame.
54:59So, yeah.
55:00Yeah.
55:01It was three months
