17:13Each of them quite different from each other
17:15And certainly from life in a caravan
17:17So while they take the time to think things over
17:20I'm heading to a place that is a step up in a whole different way
17:24One of the region's most remarkable makeovers
17:27Do I call it an abbey, a church, a convent?
17:34This convent is in a religious precinct
17:36It is the most extraordinary history
17:39The building which was built in 1906
17:42Was built by a local architect
17:44This is really modelled on more of an Irish convent type
17:48Between 1840 and 1851 the population just absolutely exploded here
17:54With people from Ireland, Scotland, wherever
17:56And they had large families, 10, 13 children
18:00And so they needed schools and they needed churches
18:02The stone is sandstone from Mount Gambia and Portland
18:06And the stained glass windows
18:08They were actually carted from Melbourne
18:11Can you imagine a horse and cart coming with these on the back of it?
18:15It really says everything about the people that had that strength
18:19And courage and conviction to create a space like this here
18:24And now, cut to today, and anyone can stay here
18:28Anyone can stay here
18:29It's now a hotel
18:29And we get some really, really interesting people coming here
18:33We get international tourists
18:35We get people who are coming from Melbourne
18:37To do the Great Ocean Road across to Adelaide
18:39And then we get local people who want a special night out
18:42No two days would be the same

18:45And no two people the same
18:46We do have a resident ghost
18:48Sister Doris, who lives under the stairs
18:51My understanding of her is that she came about
18:54Because we had a lot of little boys
18:56And a lot of little girls
18:58They were all sleeping in the dormitories up here
19:00If they started to go out of their rooms at night
19:04Then Sister Doris might come up the stairs
19:06And tell them off
19:09I'm not quite sure how to tell you that story
19:11It's an amazing place to call home
19:14And, you know, I think anyone moving into this area
19:17There's just so much here to offer
19:19And of course we're at the end of the Great Ocean Road
19:22And the Great Ocean Road has got to be one of the best places in the world
19:25This is a great place to raise kids
19:27And it's a great place to grow old
19:29And it's a great place to be
19:30It's clear to see
19:32From this humble convent-turned-luxury retreat
19:35Warrnambul certainly knows how to turn history
19:38Into something truly special
19:40But for now
